The escargot was crispy on top although the flavor was still good. The duck was cooked well done vs. a common rare or at most medium. The sea bass was delicious but the presentation and sides were subpar and not like the pictures online at all! The deserts of cheese cake and creme brûlée were very good. Then the bill comes and I thought they rung it up wrong and deducted the error from the tip and wrote a note on the bill to add the error back to the tip... on the way out, I informed the hostess of the billing error and she said that was a 4% surcharge for using a credit card! I told her there was no notification and she said it was on the door and I looked and said there were no signs on the door and none that I saw on menu and waitress didn't mention it. She pointed to a sticker at ankle height that has the "disclosure." Two of us in town for business for two days. We tried another restaurant but the next night was steered to Charlie G's. If you want fine dining with excellent staff (thank you Nathan and Dakota!), then this is the place. The food was impeccable (Scallops with Brussels sprouts was perfection). It's simple to say that this is precisely what we except from a fine dining establishment. Excellent wine, excellent staff, excellent food and nice atmosphere. My favorite gumbo in all of Louisiana! I have been dining at Charley G's since the mid 90s and it has always been one of my favorite restaurants in Lafayette. Now, even if I am just passing by on I-10, I make a "gumbo detour". Their gumbo is much darker than most lending a unique richness and taste profile. Besides the gumbo, the crab cakes are not to be missed. Still the best for me in Lafayette all these years later! read more

My husband and i have been to Charley g's a few times, and usually save the occasion for special events. We went the other night for our wedding anniversary. I got the crab cakes, and he ordered the salmon. The entrees were decently good, but not outstanding, and not as good as they should have been for the price. They had put little red hearts on our table because they knew we were celebrating our anniversary. That was a nice touch. The really interesting part of the evening began when we first waked in the door. My husband was in a business suit, and wore a nice hat. The hostess told him that the restaurant's policy was that no hats were to be worn in the dining room. Of course, my husband would have removed his hat to eat, anyway, so no problem. After we were seated, the very next group of diners who came in included a man with his shirt tail out, wearing a casual hat. Of course, he wore the hat during the entire meal. I politely asked the hostess about that when we left, and she said "oh, well, uh, he's sort of a celebrity." I see how that policy works. :( read more

The service was fantastic and the wine list was a B-. The food was not bad but reminds me way too much of a restaurant chain style food.

So, we didn't know this place is a little more upscale than other casual lafayette eateries, but we were not turned away while wearing our casual clothes. We were, however, treated very poorly. Our food was cold, it took half an hour of sitting there to even be asked if we have seen the desserts, which after waiting so long; I was over it. They had a manager asking everyone how their food was. He never came by our table and we were there for so long!!! The second we came in I felt judged, but they seated us, so why treat us so badly? It's not like we couldn't afford the sub-par food. I'm no stranger to fine cuisine; I've sampled some of the finest food at triple the price. This place gave me crunchy risotto and the sear on my scallops bordered burned. My husbands prime rib was flavorless. I'm absolutely apalled at the ridiculously terrible service. When I told the waiter that we have been waiting a good half hour to see the desserts, he just shrugged. I do not recommend this place. The food isn't worth it. The service is pretentious, and the atmosphere needs an update. I will never eat here again. read more

Don't walk in with a cap. They immediately told me that they could not sit me in the dining area. They told me that I could sit at the bar only. It was rude. We were dressed appropriately but I typically wear a cap on the weekends. I asked if I could take it off and they said yes. I wish they would have asked that first. We go here for special occasions. I have seen a few birthdays and anniversaries here. Every time we love the food. I'm a fan of the escargot and the scallops. This place has fresh food, and tasty. Had lunch here with my daughter. I ordered the Spinach and artichoke dip and my daughter had the Black Bean Burger. My daughter enjoyed the burger but thought that the raw onions on the burger were a little too over powering. She will order the burger without onions next time. Spinach dip was good. Back home for a visit and loved this place. Elegant, great service, a well executed martini with a nice glass of wine with dinner. The gumbo appetizer I can't get off my mind and will be trying to emulate it when I get back to Boston. A hard act to follow. The main course of seared tuna was terrific and well crafted in perfect portions. Charley G's is as good as it gets. Sophisticated without being stuffy.....but then again I was back in Louisiana with its beautifully delightful people. Dying to come back. Staff is top notch. From now on my go to place! read more

I just want to say 1st that this is my 1st review. Iv never been inclined enuff to do one. I am of an older generation and don't "review" as a part of my routine as a lot of people do. In this case I MUST comment. Myself and 2 friends all ordered lobster. And a cple of sides described as "table sides" which I thought meant enuff to share rite?? Anyway, my buddies lobster was rotten. I'm mean stank, nasty, dead for a wk rotten!! The "table side" of corn was maybe 2-3 oz at 6$$. I real joke. I am local. I kno cajun cuisine. This was a joke. Yes they were apologetic. Yes they did comp my buddies lobster. But wer not ours cooking in that same nasty water?? Ruined the whole meal. This is a 1st class restaurant with "chefs"...how could they not notice?? Our whole booth reeked of dead seafood!! To top it off, they came around with a desert tray and tried to SELL us on this. Great service, wine list and dessert. We had the pate appetizer and it was wonderful. The entree selections were varied enough to suit almost anyone's preferences.. I live in Baton Rouge and will make it my go to restaurant when in Lafayette. They have a great chef. Taste and presentation were excellent. The fish was perfectly cooked.
