The commissary at Charleston AFB is quite nice. It's not as large as the one at Ft. Bragg but it has a good selection of groceries. They have a good meat department with a good variety and like most military commissaries, they have a frozen selection of meats, marked down that were frozen a few days before the expiration date. You can find some good deals in that freezer. Their butchers can honor certain requests such as specialty orders but nothing guaranteed. Overall, the meat prices are great. Most other items are less expensive than civilian supermarkets as well but some things we can get cheaper off base. Overall, it's a good commissary. read more

I feel the produce prices here are very high. Shop Wal-Mart. Not all things are cheaper. But their meat selection is wide and cheaper. Would love to see Dunkin coffee ready to drink along with black rifle coffee a veteran owned coffee company. Ocular frozen pizza like the Ninja Turtles crappy pizza. As are most of the cat and dog food. Staff is very friendly. read more

I like this comms, but the reason for the 2 stars is that my husband, while in uniform, went through the checkout stand, an older black lady said "cheap" as he gave her a tip. This is the kind of behavior that the military base allows? The disrespect as this woman is allowed on our base to talk smack to our active duty WHILE giving her money? read more

Very cheap prices but can only shop here if you're a dependent of a veteran who's active, reserve, guard, retired...etc. it's usually pretty clean but gets packed around the 1sr and 15th of every month! Took a star down cause the selection could use improvement and the produce will expire if you do tide it within 2 days. All in all, very cheap to shop here. I come here weekly :) read more

I prefer this commissary over the one at the Weapons Station. It's larger, better selection and I have never bought any spoiled meats there. Even the mark down meats are really great because they freeze them before the expiration date. Thank You to all the employees!! read more

I love how the baggers took my groceries out of my cart for me. i was grateful because I was tried just from shopping. the cashier was friendly and the store is always clean. the manager is always friendly and helpful. I am going to the commissary in about an hour. read more

22 years shopping at different commissaries, this is the worst! Been there a few times and they ran out of "chicken breast, ground turkey, & flank steak. Also fruit and vegetable aisle, same thing on standard items. The ordering system is off. You should know your customer base/numbers. The organic section is SUPER sad! Have to go to another grocery store for fruits& veggies and meats. Wish it was worth the drive, but it's not. read more

I would never buy produce or meat from this Commissary. They have nearly zero organic or all-natural products. The sales on conventional items are decent, but the selection is poor. They are closed on Mondays. read more

As other reviews have noted the produce and meat selection arent the best. Fairly well stocked and friendly enough staff. Certain items are way cheaper than Walmart (bagged salads, smoothies, chips, some dry goods) certain ones arent (allergy medicine, bread, cheese) just about trial and error. read more

This store is clean, Staff is good. You get a bagger that sometimes makes comments that i really didnt like. I keep conversations with them to a minimal. Glad they started carrying things that Navy Base were carrying. read more

There is this one guy who works the door at the Commissary. He is the best door guy in the history of door guys. He is the reason why I give this place four stars. Besides door guy, this commissary has decent prices and they always have sales going on throughout the store. I wish the had more of a fresh seafood selection but whatever... I like coming here at least once a week to get food and to talk to door guy. read more

By far the worst watermelons in the area, we have yet to get any decent fruit from here. Apples are dry and hard as a rock, citrus is dry...you couldn't get a half glass of orange juice from a full bag if oranges, cantaloupe is trash, so hard you can't enjoy it, the watermelon is self explanitory in the video. If this is the best the commisary has to offer in fruits then just remove it from the store and replace with something else. Been shopping there 10 years and i think im done. read more

I agree with the August 2018 review about their produce and meat. It is as if they purposely purchase b- and c-rated produce and meat to save money. Today, I cut into the last piece of rotten produce from this commissary. I will have to get all my produce and meat on the economy, or make the trip to the Weapon Station. I've been to many bases and this is the Worst commissary I ever been to. The meat selection is questionable. Don't know if the ground beef is real beef. The rest of the meat is fine. The staff here is rude! Of all the bases I've been to, these guys are the worst. Always rude! I always use the self checkout lane, just to avoid these fools. If you want better service the folks on the weapon station side is much friendlier. read more

The store has a great selection of products and clean. My wife and I have been going there for a couple years and we, after having experienced first hand two different cashiers being condescending and rude with us, avoid these two cashiers due to their bad attitudes. These two really need to adjust their attitudes with their customers and we have on several occasions witnessed them treating the baggers as well as other customers very rudely and condescendingly. We have even seen one of these two walking off leaving a line of customers waiting to checkout while she went browsing down different isles and talking with other people. I see other blogs here (Sky M., Nick P and others) mentioning them as well so glad its not just us having that experience. We will for sure be filing complaints with management in future and hope others do the same. Also, please remember when shopping there, there are no cart return areas in the parking lot and they have one bagger who's job is to try and stay on top of the carts. Had the privilege of talking with one of them, he was covered in sweat, nice kid but looked to almost be ready to pass out from the heat trying to keep the front exits clear of carts as well as trying to get carts that people just leave in the parking lot. The baggers are not employed by the commissary, they strictly work for tips and if anyone reads this, please try and help them out by returning your cart to the front of the commissary. I try and grab a couple carts and take them back up to the front on my way in and have seen others do the same so hopefully a cart doesn't scratch up other peoples nor my vehicle. Also, if you don't want a bagger taking your groceries out, please inform the cashier so they can put your bagged groceries back in your cart and please remember to try and tip these folks. From what we can tell, some are high school kids, some are veterans, retirees etc and every little bit helps. read more

Had a very rude encounter with a cashier, Yolanda this week. Avoid her at all costs. She snatched my ID, screamed at me for not placing my items the way she wanted it on the conveyor belt and said "If it falls, ain't my problem" and was gossiping with the baggers while checking me out. I thought it was some sort of prank but reality check, I was on base. Needless to say I made a formal complaint. Heaven forbid I drove hours to shop at the commissary and experience this..... The rest of the staff are great but the experience I had was so bad it compelled me to write this review. read more

Nice store, good products. Staff needs to take courses on Costumer Interactions, very rude, unfriendly and treats costumers condescendingly.

The deli makes really good sandwiches. I don't like turkey so asked for shredded chicken, no problem. It's a better deal than Subway! (Unless you're looking for tuna sub). read more

Nice commissary looks pretty new and easy to get to. A bit more crowded than the one we left in Seattle/Smokey Point. A large selection and a full service deli with sushi bar. Exchange is next door and is new as well. read more

Speaking on the rudeness of the workers. It is not the commissaries fault this area of the country in general is very rude. As for a commissary I am just glad to live near one at all. I go there mainly for the meat and it's prices. Not only do they have the usual meat prices they also freeze meat and mark it down to half price on it's use by date. read more
