I've always had excellent service from Groff and Sons when taking my vehicles to them for a variety of work (inspections, etc.).

HORRIBLE!!! DO NOT USE. No clear contract with storage vaults. Tons of hidden fees. No flexibility with scheduling. Terrible customer service. Emily in particular was absolutely inflexible, a bad communicator, very unpleasant to deal with in every way. The movers themselves are great but the office and their policies and fees are a disaster. They will not have my business ever again. read more

The customer service and communication is awful. I had my furniture in their storage units for about a year. For the first six months I was charged $45 to store the furniture. Then I received a bill of $90 per month. When I called, I was told that they miss placed half of my furniture. When I scheduled a move of a few pieces of furniture out of storage, the office personal relayed to the moving crew miss information. The crew brought the wrong pieces out of storage. I was then required to reschedule delivery and I got billed twice. The office personal said that the error was my fault, not theirs. Their customer service personal is not friend or easy to speak with and they are always correct. I will not be using this moving company ever again and would not recommend them. read more

We needed some heavy furniture moved from one room to another, through tight door openings. The two gentlemen who showed up couldn't have been nicer, kinder, or sweeter. They moved what we'd called about and a handful of other things. I definitely, wholeheartedly recommend this company. read more

The movers and the moving process was the only positive thing about this company. Movers were great, helpful, and knowledgeable. I did not have any issues with this company until realizing I was missing all of the boxes we dropped off ourselves at their facility to be put in storage. Upon realizing we were missing boxes after moving out of storage, we called to see what could be done. The lady informed me that there was no documentation of us dropping any boxes off and therefore nothing could be done. Explained to her that these boxes were numbered and written down on a list in front of me before I left and her response was still that they did not have this on record. Basically they are saying that this is my issue and there's nothing they're able to do on their end (even though they misplaced these boxes). DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY FOR STORAGE! read more

After just making my first intrastate move using Charles Groff and Sons, Bekins, I have only good things to say about them. To mention a few highlights, the initial telephone contacts with their office were professionally handled, scheduling the estimator was prompt and the estimated was knowledgeable and friendly. The company worked with us on scheduling the loading and unloading dates and times especially considering we had a short timeline on our side to set the process up. The loading and unloading team lead and driver, Dave, was outstanding. My experience was on this move and another one that Groffs did for me a couple of weeks before this one were flawless. Charles E. Groff & Sons packed and moved some of my belongings into their storage facility after my parents died. During an incredibly difficult time, they were kind and efficient. The estimate was accurate. The movers came on time and were fast. They took perfect care of fragile, sentimental items (e.g. antique furniture & lamps). And after 3 years in their storage, everything was in good condition. Access to the storage container is by appointment. They will pull everything out if you need to go through anything (and then pack it back up). This company was recommended to me by friends and I am so grateful. Groff & Sons moved my parents from their house in Manheim to an apartment up in Palmyra recently, and I can't say enough about how professional they were. The two guys who came to finish the packing in the morning, and then load the truck up and move them were incredible. They helped ease my parents' minds, and offered a lot of help and advice. The price quote was very good and competitive, but when asked if they would wear masks they refused. Being in noncompliance with CDC guidelines was unacceptable since they were entering the home of an elderly couple in their 70s! Even when I explained that, they refused. They were reported to the state for noncompliance. Ridiculous. read more

This moving company leaves alot to be desired. Your belongings are delivered damaged, scratched, gouged, with parts missing and things broken. Keys are missing from your antiques and they give you someone elses that I was told was found on another truck. So, if you are out there and missing a key from your antiques, I probably have it! The process to get things corrected is a time consuming one. You do everything that is asked of you, fill out all the damage forms etc. and in a timely manner, but they don't hold up to their part of the process. You never get called back and you get hung up on. You call back a week later and the woman that is in charge of this portion of the procedure is always off that day or on vacation. It takes calling over and over again to get any satisfaction from these people. They leave you wondering whats going on for weeks on end. The person that repairs your damages that you payed insurance for does a shoddy job, and even forgets to do the repairs and leaves. He doesn't even show up for months afterward to do any repairs, and then when he forgets to do a repair, it's months till he comes back again. He had to glue a piece of wood together, that they split, and it needed to be viced. He did that when he first got here and then proceeded to do other repairs. 2 and a half hours later before he left, he took it apart. Needless to say, it came apart. When I called to tell the women that this happened, she said he told her that it would probably come apart, but he wasn't scheduled to come back so he took the vices off! She said I'm sorry, I am just in the middle here, so even she knew what he did was wrong. Seems to me and to her, that the vices should of stayed on till the glue dried and THEN taken off, even if he had to come back. They even make up damages on your items that are not there just in case they do damage it, so they are covered. Example: I had a piece of furniture in great condition. It was ONE piece they happened to delivered still in great condition. According to the paper with a description of it and its condition when they picked it up, it said it had scratches, gouges, stain rubbed off and a bunch of other stuff. It was in perfect condition when they picked it up and delivered it, but according to the guy that wrote all the things wrong with it when it was picked up, it was a mess! It was a total lie! Don't give the guys a tip till you see all the damage you have. I guarantee you won't give them a tip. Don't insure any boxes you pack yourself. They are not covered, even though they will let you pay to insure them. According to the repair guy, "we pack your boxes to survive falls of 25ft. and they will be intact"! So, just make sure you pack your boxes to be dropped 25 ft. What a joke. If you want them to pack your belongings for you, they charge high fees just for one box. It doesn't matter that they stack your boxes 6 high on a refridgerator cart and then RUN down the ramp of a tractor trailer and everything gets a jolt when it comes off the ramp and lands on the roadway. No, it is not their fault that anything is damaged or broken. They have an answer for everything when there are damages that they don't want to cover, even though they should and you pay to have them covered. I am still finding damage to my stuff, and it has been months since I used them. I just got a fan from the basement to use in the heat and a knob is missing from that! I am sure I will be finding more and more damage as time goes along. I paid ALOT of money to them for my move, tipped their guys with more than a fair tip, when they loaded and unloaded my belongings, and then I got the shaft from them. They did reimburse me for the amount that I payed to insure my boxes, which was 3 quarters of my move, but only after there were broken items they didn't want to cover. Then after the guy didn't want to come back and fix things that should of been fixed already, they said they talked with their insurance company and would give me a small amount to cover what wasn't fixed. I never heard of a compnay calling the insurer and agreeing on an amount to give somebody. Usually the insurance company comes with an adjuster for that. So, I am thinking it was just another one of their ploys. Anyway, I took it and my husband did the repairs the right way. I didn't want to deal with them anymore, which is what I think they wanted. They wanted to get out of doing what they were supposed to do all along. I wasn't going to review this company because I wanted to forget about this experience. But I got a postcard in the mail about not trusting a joe schmoe company for your move. When I turned the postcard around, it was from this company! I knew then I had to do this. I could go on and on with more unbelieveable stories from this move with this company, but I think you get the drift here. RUN, don't walk, away from this company. read more

We admit that we were nervous about our move from Pennsylvania to Florida because neither Charles E. Groff or us signed any documents in advance. However, at 8:00 a.m. on "move day" the truck was at our house and everything went as scheduled. John and his crew were also very professional, and nothing got broke in the move. The worst experience I have ever had with a company hands down. The movers were disrespectful, rude and spoke down to me and ruined my furniture when moving it. When I asked what had happened to my couch when I saw that they leg had broken off, they said it happened it our storage unit, but we saw them move it out of our storage unit and the leg was perfectly intact. They will ruin your furniture and then lie about it, overcharge you for services by taking multiple breaks and just sitting in the truck and ruin your new home. They cracked drywall in my new home, and then said to me "we don't care its not our house"! Unbelievable...we will be contacting the better business bureau and our credit card company. read more

I wish I could give this company 1 star. We recently used them in our move, and they were to take apart my children's beds, as well as my master bedroom bed, and then put them together at our new house. The people who showed up at my house clearly had no idea how to take apart furniture and my husband had to give him an electric power drill because the kid only had an Allen rench and it took him 4 hours to take apart 2 bunk beds. Then, he apparently lost a ton of pieces during this debacle, because when it was being "put back together" again, this guy didn't properly build my kids beds at our new home. We are talking screws hanging out, the ladder not being attached, and the bunk itself being put in upside down or just simply not even putting a screw in it place. Did the mover alert us about this? No. Thankfully my husband inspected his "work" before my kids slept in the bed because the top bunk would have crushed my younger kids in the bottom bunks. When I called about this, they simply denied the claim and did I get a sorry? No. Because I disposed of the broken furniture which was a risk leaving in my young kids bedrooms with screws sticking out, they told me too bad, it's not their fault. Again, no I'm sorry that our movers don't know what they are doing, or this should never happen, nothing, just too bad. Please do yourself a favor and find another moving company, not only will they wreck your furniture and not care, but you'll pay 8 hours for some guy to do the breaking read more

Hello Everybody, I used Charles E Groff & Sons to move my two bedroom apartment into my new home. The move was only 7 miles. The guys were great and after all was completed I was asked to sign a completed waiver. I looked in the truck and saw no furniture and maybe 8 boxes remaining on the truck. I didn't feel I needed to jump up into the truck and check all boxes so I signed. Turns out I was missing some clothing, spring jackets, leather jackets, winter coats, ect. When I called customer service I spoke to a Jenna who told me I signed the waiver so she could do nothing for me. She then said she'll send me a claims form but I'll only get 60 cents per pound so basically I'd get nothing for my $500.00 worth of clothing. When I asked if I needed a lawyer, she got rude and said she will not send me a claims form and do what I had to do. I will never use Charles Groff & Sons again and will encourage all not to use them as well due to their horrible Customer Service! I recommended them to a friend but just called him back to go elsewhere. I work for a company that relocates people often and will be telling everyone not to use Charles E Groff and Sons. Very mixed review. I will be cut and dry. I was given a time frame that they did not honor, 2 hours late. But when the movers got there they did work very fast. Customer service was very rude even the supervisor called me stupid! The movers only worked for 51 mins but there's a 2 hour minimum that I was never told about also the movers seemed shocked about it too . Hope this helps anyone read more

Having had a bad experience with the customer service and reliability of another moving company in the area just a couple of weeks before, we decided to go with Groff's to move a 2nd load of furniture that was going from PA to NY this time. The experiences with the two companies couldn't have been more different! The phone was answered almost every time we called Groff's, they quickly responded to voice mail, and everyone we spoke to was extremely helpful. The crew arrived on time, quickly did a written inventory of the furniture, checked the condition of every piece, and carefully packed items like mirrors and glass doors. Groff's held the furniture in their "vault" for a couple of weeks before delivery (we were in no rush), and the office quickly followed up with us to set a delivery date. The two-man crew actually arrived a little before the scheduled delivery of 8 a.m., and everything arrived in the same condition it had been in before the move. Office staff and both crews were very professional, helpful, and pleasant to work with. Credit cards are accepted but need to be processed through the office about a day before the moving crew arrives. read more

Had my daughter's things stored here for the summer for college. When the pickup dates came around this fall, not only did we get incomplete information but the manager was rude and unreasonable. Her employees mistake cost us money and she would not make it right! I would seek out any other option before choosing this one for the next three years for summer storage. The only reason this is 2 stars and not 1 is that the first leg of the move went well--I was happy to tip the movers. After that, it was downhill, from scratched furniture to terrible customer service. Twice we scheduled to have something moved out of their warehouse and twice they refused to allow the other movers to get it. Neither time did they bother to call us to resolve any issues (final bill, paid by phone). Do they do good business? They were recommended by someone I know. But I have a hard time recommending them to anyone else after the rude treatment and failure to even bother to serve the customer once the main job was paid for. read more

I recommended Groff to my daughter because we used them and they were great. They picked up my daughter's furniture around June 10th and told her it would arrive in Seattle approximately June 19th. When she called on the 19th she was told it never left Mt. Joy due to their contracted truck company having a break down. After numerous calls to Groff's who were extremely rude and non-caring, her furniture arrived on July 12th. Groff's told her they were not responsible for the trucking company who had several breakdowns and there was nothing they could do. I understand being a few days late but there unwillingness to even try to get it there, their rudeness and extreme lack of concern is appalling. The amount she paid them was extremely high and they did nothing to compensate her for what they put her through. Whoever took over Groff & Sons Moving should be ashamed to use the name of a company that was trustworthy and respectable to its customers! read more

The company is one big joke they had a crew at my house and the 2 out of the 3 where all new guys when asked why there where 2 new guys on my crew i was told by steve that the company couldn't keep enough guys for the work they have. it was a raining day which i didn't like from the beggining but to add to it they cowered a few things but not a lot so i had wet furniture. the 1 guy beleive it or not was actually better then the crew leader in working ethics. steve was a good talker but not a good walker he was downgrading the company any way he could saying the lady in the office can't make decisions right overbooks and doesn't care about the employees to much i then said to him why does the boss keep her around and he said i'm not even gonna start with him. I moved with this company before and it seemed like a very well oiled machine but this very rusty. Will i use them again probably not after this incident i don't have the best furniture but i do like my stuff. The question now is do i file claims or just forget this company ever existed? read more
