Teriyaki places are common, like a Yen a dozen. But I am intentionally writing about this place because it is a fast casual Teriyaki place that delivers above the line of common. On my last visit Alberto- one of its workers- delivered more than, maybe, I deserved. I needed to use the bathroom, I needed to eat- I was in starvation central- and I was, in general, in a rush. In my mind every second mattered. Any delay to my day's agenda was like a dagger to my productivity. I am sure most people have experienced this feeling--- the feeling of urgency that is only reduced when the world and all its people and varied moving components unify to support what one wants. But rarely does the globe begin working like clockwork for just one person, especially when that person is in a self-prescribed time crunch. But on this day Alberto and the other workers of Charki's kind-of unified for little ol' me. I got there three minutes early. They open at 11:00 a.m. and I got there at 10:57 a.m. I have been in these situations before, a place does not open till they should. so I knew I had to wait, regardless of my needs and urgencies. Plus, they might have felt that those three minutes mattered them, not only per set opening time, but those minutes might have provided them the time needed to get their frying oil to the correct temperature. Or those three minutes would have gotten their own mind ready for the day, or they just didn't feel like opening minutes early, which is valid. Case in point, someone can wake up three minutes before their alarm rings or they can decide to stay in bed for an additional three minutes because those three extra minutes under the covers are more than great, they are treasured ticks belonging to me and no on else. On this day, instead of owning their three minutes and keeping me waiting, Alberto opened early. I know I did not get early access to Bergdorfs on Black Friday, but someone someone gave up three minutes that were theirs and that feels like a gum drop sea parted when I wanted no sweets, only carrot sticks. I made a beeline for the bathroom. I was given a key attached to a ladle that looked line one of those backscratchers. Before I entered I ordered their teriyaki plate. I came out, my food was ready soon, and I could continue completing tasks as I ate. The plate was well composed, a nice bulging green salad, Salmon teriyaki that did not taste coastal fresh but for the price point held its own just fine, and two nice and big scoops of sticky white rice. The food is solid, plentiful, and easy to enjoy. As I left, I realized I left the key inside the bathroom and now it was locked. I apologized to another staff member and instead of giving me a grimace or a sigh, I was just told don't worry. I am not sure how they fixed my faux pa, they could had a spare, I know they did not call a locksmith, but I appreciated that I was not made to feel bad over my error caused by my rush. The experienced felt like a ballet company was moving to support my day's agenda, when ticks mattered most. And like I said above, that feeling is just great! read more

Got the chicken plate. Didn't realize it didn't come eye veggies so might get the chicken veggie plate next time. Food was cooked well and didn't take long. I asked for extra sauce and the lady there was really nice asking if I wanted the sauce in the chicken, rice or on the side. I think if the food was reheated it may become too dry. I do love a great teriyaki! The place I normally go to was closed. I found this one on Yelp. Who knew they were there. The guy said they were open for like 12 years. Anyway, I got the chicken and beef plate. I think the price was very reasonable so I added avocado. They give a lot for just a couple of dollars more. Both meats were tender and had the right amount of char. The serving size was great. This is my new teriyaki spot!! read more

This place has become my new go-to for all things teriyaki, though I end up ordering the same thing every time. Nestled in the corner of a plaza on Rosecrans and Van Ness, this unassuming Teriyaki joint is right next to a Subway. Pros: + Lots of free parking + Clean interior, easy to read menu + Fast, prompt service + Sizable portions for the money. + Chicken is really good. Tender and charbroiled, this is a favorite of mine + Credit cards are accepted, and so is Apple Pay. They don't bug you to leave a tip when you pay this way. Neutral + Beef is pretty good, but not as good as the chicken My go-to is the large bowl serving of the chicken/beef teriyaki. While I enjoy the chicken more than the beef, the beef is tender and tasty as well, and is a good change from the usual. One of these is easily sharable. Charki's is easily a favorite of mine, and I am happy to make the 15 minute drive out of my way to get some. read more

Could have been better. Was waiting for my order and next customer got theirs. Saw previous customers engage with the staff and they called out the order. I had been waiting for a while but got no call out that my order was ready. Odd experience used obviously to make sure a customer doesn't return. read more

Great local spot! Located in a big plaza, there's plenty of parking. I always get a Chicken & Beef Bowl and it's huge! It only comes in a large bowl and it's definitely shareable. The chicken is great, the beef is delicious! Their service is great. Overall a great place to get quick food for lunch. Definitely recommend. read more

Charles makes some great chicken. Service was prompt, not overly friendly, but perfectly fine for counter service. Asked about white meat chicken and got a blank stare.. funny I guess. I ordered a chicken veggie plate with no rice, my old standby in pretty much every teriyaki restaurant. The chicken was excellent. Cooked perfectly, lightly sauced, and tasted fresh. The veggies were crisp and delicious too. The hot sauce actually had some zing. Downsides: no soy sauce available? Kind of seems like a basic essential in most teriyaki restaurants. This was a big miss for me. This place is kind of an unassuming and dirty shopping center, be aware, but it's a hidden gem for sure. read more

I paid $14.88 for the smallest sliver of salmon and 5 shrimp! I cant believe it! I just happen to be in the area and wanted something tasty with rice so I decided to try this place. Overpriced! I probably wont come back because the price does not match the quantity and the quality was ok. Perfect lunch spot! Exactly what you want when you want a teriyaki chicken bowl. They give you a good amount of chicken even with the regular sized bowl and the chicken comes saucy. I hate it when you get teriyaki chicken and it's dry but that is not a problem here! The staff is friendly and you can tell they're working hard. I'm particularly fond of the chicken and beef combo, while my bf alternates between the combo and the salmon plate. Get the avocado if you're a fan like me. It's pretty good, off my one time visit. I went at a bit of an obscure hour (2pm) so there was no line. I ordered the half and half of chicken and beef and it took about 10 minutes to come out. The lady offered and gave me some extra teriyaki sauce as well as hot sauce (Sriracha), which was nice. As the restaurant isn't really the nicest ambience, I took it home, and it traveled well, albeit it was like a 5 minute drive. Chicken and beef were both very tender and the rice was...well, rice. Overall, it was a pretty decent meal, and I think it was somewhat pleasant. If I have a craving for teriyaki, I may stop by again. Nothing crazy here--just your average slightly above average teriyaki joint, if you know what I mean. read more

This little gem is located in a strip mall off Rosecrans, it's ample parking and tons of surrounding businesses. I got the half and half plate including beef,chicken and salad. The salad was very simple just lettuce and carrots with a side of ranch but it was fresh! The chicken and beef was very flavorful with just the right amount of sauce, the rice was cooked really good as well. Customer service was awesome the guy taking orders was very pleasant, they provided us with tons of hot sauce and extra teriyaki sauce which most places don't like to do or even charge extra. So in my ongoing quest for Really. Good. Teriyaki after what seemed to be the best Teriyaki place in the world closed down, here is another try for a replacement. But nope, this isn't it either. Ordered Friday lunch delivery via an app: Salmon and Shrimp Teriyaki plate with salad and Chicken Teriyaki with vegetables (which is bland cooked cabbage and far too much of it, tasty steamed broccoli, and steamed carrots which are pretty good). The Salmon had a nice grilled flavor but otherwise bland, could not detect teriyaki-anything on it, and it was in an oddly thin piece. Do they flatten it? The 4 shrimps were grilled on a skewer, pretty bland as well even with the wedge of lime provided. It appears that all actual teriyaki sauce comes on the side here but I already ordered 5 extra for 2 plates and it still was very sparse. The Teriyaki sauce itself has a good flavor, more on the thick and honey-sweetened side than others. All in all the salmon/shrimp plate felt like a rip-off as it's 80% rice with some lettuce and the seafood is minimal and not very teriyaki at all The Chicken plate was just okay with the veg, but too much cabbage, not enough sauce despite ordering extra, and I had some weird chewy pieces in my chicken that kind of killed my appetite. And so the quest for good Teriyaki continues. read more

Great teriyaki! I really love the amount of avocado they put in their food even though it's extra charge, it's absolutely worth every penny! Lots of options to choose from. Their service was very quick and the quality is exceptional. I highly recommend this place for some good food. There is extra charge for brown rice which really bums me out.
