Asian tacos... Who would have thought?! What a concept - it was delicious! 3 artisan tacos for 9.99 isn't cheap but it certainly was filling and has such a bright, fresh flavor, especially the chicken taco. I would definitely recommend the spicy kimchi slaw - no toppings were suggested to us as I have seen in previous reviews, but typically it comes with cheese, cilantro, green onion, slaw and sauce. The portions of meat were generous and it's a very laid back atmosphere. I wouldn't necessarily think to come for a dinner, but it's a great option for lunch. *Note that the bean taco option automatically comes vegan - I had to ask for yum yum sauce and cheese. Better safe than sorry I assume! I have not tried the soup but heard great things about the broth. It smelled delicious and was obviously freshly made everyday. I brought out of town guests here and they were delighted with the unique options. read more

Phenomenal food. This place must be relatively new as I have never heard of it and drive past the area frequently. Everything was made with fresh ingredients. I had the steak chicken and shrimp tacos topped with yum yum sauce. Restaurant was also very clean. So flavorful and will definitely be returning. Quick lunch spot also if you are in a hurry read more

Char - PHENOMENAL. Steak, chicken and shrimp Asian tacos. Everything is made fresh and staff was super nice. Will definitely be returning - Asian Fusion Near Me - Grand Rapids, Michigan

This place is amazing. I went in not knowing what to expect. The staff is so helpful and super nice. I got the broth bowl with chicken and was amazed at how tasty it was and how big the portions were. The broth was spectacular and the kimchi cabbage was to die for. I will definitely be coming here again very soon. read more

Got chicken and shrimp tacos and a beef rice bowl. Very welcoming atmosphere, super friendly staff. REALLY GOOD tacos. Rice bowl was also pretty good but definitely prefer the tacos. Takeout was also very convenient and good packaging read more

Food was alright,l. we got a shrimp taco, a chicken taco and the loaded nachos. The nachos were really dry and we were really disappointed. The service was absolutely horrible and the manager seems really mean! :( read more

I love char. Tacos are addicting but anything you order will be good. The wings the noodle broth bowls. Everything tastes fresh and delicious! read more

This place is disgusting. My cheese roll was cold, rubbery and chewy. So nasty. Then my broth bowl was even worse. The taste was off and bland. Too many noodles. Then to make it even worse the teriyaki sauce spilled all in the bag and that was a mess! I will not be going back or recommend this place to anyone! This place is also way overpriced for what you get! The ownership should be embarrassed with what I experienced as a first and last time customer. read more

Favorite Tacos in Grand Rapids. You cannot go wrong with each option. I have been fully satisfied each time. They also sell really good sparkling lemonade. read more

The tacos are AMAZING. Haven't tried anything else except the tacos but they are probably my favorite food?! Definitely a go-to place that's cheap, fast, and friendly. read more

Wow! Just plain Wow! When you think Taco's you type in Mexican food in Yelp! This place doesn't pop up because it isn't Mexican! It's Asian as in Asian Tacos! The best Taco's I've ever had! I asked to guy behind the counter (Shaun - a very cool dude!) to just fix them how he recommends and they were spectacular! Instead of lettuce they use a sort of Asian cabbage slaw and other fresh ingredients! My new favorite place! I asked for chips and dip! He turned around, dropped the basket into the oil and made them fresh! The dip was kinda like an Oriental salsa but nothing like salsa. Hard to explain but worth a try! read more

Super tasty, I loved the chicken taco with the not spicy kimchi. I wasn't sold on the Asian-fusion taco thing until I took my first bite. So good, not expensive, and the staff is very friendly. And I think I saw there were vegetarian options as well, but I was pretty focused on my chicken and steak tacos. Overall super yummy and I want to bring my friends next time I go. Edit to add: I noticed another review complain they had no fountain drinks. They actually do. I added a fountain drink while checking out then went into the shared dining space between Char and Gita Pita (they're connected by a nice, open room with wooden tables and chairs) and filled up my fountain drink from the machine in that room. read more

my fave place to get takeout in grand rapids!! soooooo good, the asian tacos are absolutely amazing and they have great sauce options.

This place was way better than I was expecting! So much flavor! Even the cheese wonton had great flavor. We got 3 tacos on flour tortillas- steak, shrimp, and chicken. We got them with spicy kimchi, green onion, cilantro, yum yum sauce and teriyaki sauce. Would 100% order everything again. Also the service was great, the guy working was super enthusiastic about everything. Loved the whole experience! read more

Absolutely delicious! I'm so addicted to this place. It's officially my favorite in Grand Rapids.

My boyfriend and I went on a skeptical lunch date here. "Asian Tacos?!" Turns out, Asian Tacos are really freaking good. The customer service was incredible, and you can tell that the owners are very proud of their food. We were greeted by a man who was excited to share samples of new menu items with us, and he was very helpful as we navigated their menu. We had their vegan tacos and left feeling very full and happy. I will absolutely be going back and I could not recommend it more highly! read more

Come to GR often for work and have a few places I rely on. This place has been added to the list. Got the chicken fried rice bowl and it was amazing. Fried rice is hard to mess up, but this was so good. Will definitely be going back to try more read more

Think of Mexican inspired tacos with Asian inspired topping options. That is what you get at Char. I'm not a big fan of fusion style food because sometimes in the process you end up losing the ingredients that made each type of cuisine good. For me they were able to keep the best components of each style of food. At Char you can do the Asian toppings but you can also do the Mexican toppings. Your protein options are steak, chicken or shrimp. I can't remember if there was a vegan option - I didn't try it if there was. They also have broth bowls with a choice of udon noodles or rice noodles and your choice of protein and toppings. There was also a green bowl with your choice of lettuce, arugula or kale as a base plus your protein options and choice of up to 3 toppings. Other info: This is cafeteria style. No waiter/waitress. No alcohol. Same owners as Gita Pita. They both share the same dining area. The person who served us was very helpful and friendly. read more

Delicious food, reasonably priced, conveniently located and fast service. I had a salad bowl with chicken. Loved that they had fresh arugula and spinach cause I'm weird that way. Toppings were plentiful and a nice variety. I didn't know what salad dressing I wanted, so they gave me all three on the side. Nice! (The green one is the best.) I will go there again. read more

Very innovate, fresh and clean flavors. I hope this menu grows for the simple fact that its small and limited. I would to see more from this unique spot, I recommend to the owner he look up Pho Burrito and he looked as excited as I did the first time I had one without even tasting it!! Keep up the good work boys Im hookes for sure read more

Char - Shrimp Taco, Steak Taco, Chicken Taco, Black Bean Taco - Asian Fusion Near Me - Grand Rapids, Michigan

This place was right next door to Gita Pita and shared a dining area. We went over to check it out and struck up a conversation with the cook. He made us a chicken taco to try. It had a variety of Asian ingredients such as kimchi. He produced a flavor explosion! It was amazing, a must try. read more

I had pretty terrible experience attempting to order online through this place. TLDR: restaurant had no customers but somehow couldn't complete my order after an hour. I placed the order through Yelp and was immediately given a 20-40 minute estimate. We were about a 15 minute drive away, so I thought that would be just fine. About five minutes later the estimate was revised to be 30-50 minutes. Oh well, I guess we'll just take our time getting there and have to wait a few minutes. No big deal. At this point I had to call them up to verify that some of the items we ordered were gluten free. The guy sounded a little frazzled and he said it might be a while but the gluten free was no big deal. So we get to the restaurant about 20 minutes later and there is just a high school kid behind the counter with no idea that we had put in an order. Apparently his manager just neglected to tell him. Worst part is that there wasn't a single customer in the restaurant! The kid told us it would take over a half hour to complete our order because he was by himself. This was a Saturday night, btw. At that point we decided to cut out losses and go somewhere else. In addition to the obviously terrible service, the restaurant was dirty and the food looked pretty mediocre. I have no idea how it gets such good reviews. read more

Son brought me the Asian nachos and I haven't been any where else they are amazing. And the staff truly know what they are doing. It's the only place I will beordering food from. read more

Superb dinner. Great tacos, paired with yum yum sauce and the teriyaki glaze, along with the hot sauce. Kimchi pops with flavor and overall, just leaves you feeling GOOD after your meal. Wonderful owner/chef too. Good luck, will be back whenever I am in the area read more

I love this place !!! Especially the shrimp tacos and cheese rolls. It's a combination of things you will never think would go on a taco but it works absolutely great. If you're looking for something a little different and great in taste make sure you stop bye. read more

Best bowl I've had in a while! The lo mein is great because they still use the udon noodles.

While the egg roll was very bland, the loaded wonton nachos are loaded with flavor and extremely filling! The food was also ready incredibly quick! read more

The concept of the Asian fusion and Hispanic influence is there. Season the broth a bit more for you go in.

Great concept and overall very good. Had a fried rice bowl with steak. Very flavorful. Biggest concern was that the place is kind of dirty. Eating area had dirty tables, food on floor etc. staff could be more friendly for sure. Great concept, good food. read more

Best restaurant in Grand Rapids, and I've tried many. The service here is always a pleasure. Great atmosphere, great taste profiles and super yummy food. I get the 3 taco combo every time.. chicken, steak and shrimp. You won't find a better tasting taco, for real. read more

Wonderful food! The guys behind the counter were super friendly too! We will surely return!

Loved all of the tacos, but the broth bowls need a little tweaking! Broth should be stronger, with more depth, mushrooms should be cooked/steamed ahead of time, consider adding soft eggs? read more

I stopped in spur of the moment when my first restaurant choice of the evening had a 45 minute wait. What a great surprise! Amazing food. The owner worked the grill and counter and took time to offer suggestions and describe the sauces and choices. The tacos are fantastic. Fast, inexpensive, convenient location and great service. The owner recognized me on my second visit a couple of weeks later. Five stars because Grand Rapids needs innovative smaller places like this to provide balance to the growing trend of 25-30 dollar entree restaurants. These guys deserve our local support. read more

Absolutely delicious Asian fusion tacos! Owners take their flavors and customer service very seriously. I can't wait to go back! Our whole family loves it!! read more

My favorite place to eat in Grand Rapids. The owner is a food genius. Delicious and unique flavors that I cannot stop craving. I suggest tacos, loaded wonton chips, and their wings. Everything is good but those are my favorites. Give it a try and I bet you'll be as addicted as I am. read more

Loved the tacos. I tried one each -- steak, chicken and shrimp and all were excellent. We also had the udon noodle bowl. Everything was A grade. And the staff was excellent as well. The owner (I assume) asked how everything was and then asked how they could do things better. We will be back. read more

Looking for something new I decided to check this place out. Looked at the menu online and ordered a taco to go. The shrimp was cooked perfect and the cheese wanton was delicious! I will definitely be back! read more
