Cuitlacoche Tamal Stack
Jenna S.

I came here with some friends on a Saturday evening. We had made a reservation in advance, and didn't have to wait at all upon arrival. For starters, we ordered the classic guacamole to share. It was good, but the portion size was a bit small, especially for something that's traditionally a shareable appetizer. For my meal, I tried the cuitlacoche tamal stack. It was unlike anything I've had before, but honestly it was really good! It had an interesting combination of textures, but was filling, hearty, and unique. It was also served with a side of beans. Overall, the atmosphere was welcoming and clean, the staff was friendly, and the food was good. I enjoyed being able to try something that I don't normally have, and I'd recommend coming here!

This location is amazing! Wait staff were very friendly and attentive. Drinks and food were fresh. We ordered appetizers which were enjoyed and filling. The restaurant is very nice and simply decorated. Parking was available on the side of the building. Definitely try the shrimp ceviche.

Pollo Con Mole Poblano

After passing by it so often, my friend and I finally tried Mexo! It was really nice inside and I loved that every table had a candle to set the mood. Our server was very knowledgable about the menu and gave us some suggestions since we were both indecisive on what to get. I decided to try their oaxacan margarita which was new to me because I've never had mezcal before! The server told me that it was going to be smokey compared to the usual margarita that uses tequila. It definitely reminded me of having a cookout but in a drink! My friend and I got the shrimp ceviche to share and my mouth is still watering from how good it was Then I got the pollo con mole poblano, one of popular options the server suggested. I loved that the mole came with cilantro rice and it was a big portion so I took home leftovers. The only thing that could've been better was more seasoning on the vegetables that came on the side. My friend got their deconstructed tacos which was pretty cool and came with tortillas and a side of the cilantro rice. Overall it was a great experience and they have an event coming up on Cinco de Mayo which would be a good time to check them out! They also have their own parking lot which helps a lot being downtown!

Upscale Mexican! Great atmosphere, great staff. Mario was an excellent server! Excellent margaritas! Free parking is available in a small lot next to the restaurant which is nice for a downtown restaurant.

Paloma Rojo

Didn't get a chance to eat. But we did have drinks! Paloma rojo if you want a Smokey vibe and Paloma Classico for a sweeter situation. Was able to get quick service at the bar on a busy Saturday! Be sure to check out their tequila menu you can swap out your fave in any cocktail!

Elevated, authentic, delicious Mexican food. It's pricier than your typical Mexican restaurant but definitely worth it! We had the enchilada Rojas, esquites, and a mole carnita dish (can't remember the name) and enjoyed it all. Service was quick. We had a reservation (which you can book through Yelp) at 6 and were out by 7. The paintings on the walls are so beautiful and vivid! They do have a dedicated parking lot if you drive there.

Any restaurant that makes house made huitlacoche gets 5 stars in my book. With MeXo's mission to create a menu of a mix of pre-Hispanic mesoamerican and modern Mexican dishes I would say this beautifully plated huitlacoche dish hits home. I'm impressed I can find a Mexican delicacy like this in Grand Rapids. We also tried a Mayan dip as our appetizer which was a fantastic start. Cute spot and great location. Great service, the server was very knowledgeable. Would go back to get the huitlacoche and Mayan dip again alone, can't wait to try more dishes.

Our server was an absolute delight - attentive, friendly, and genuinely kind. Her warm hospitality and playful banter made us feel right at home. We kicked off our culinary adventure with a couple of their signature cocktails: The Paloma Rojo: Smoky, refreshing, and citrusy, this concoction featured blanco mezcal, Aperol, grapefruit, lime, orange agave, and a chile salt rim. A perfect way to awaken the palate! I ordered the Palenque Margarita: This was a truly exceptional margarita - smooth, upscale, and expertly crafted with El Tesoro Reposado, Grand Marnier, fresh lime juice, and house-made orange agave syrup. The tableside preparation added a touch of interactive fun. With drinks in hand, we delved into the menu, starting with the MeXo Queso Fundido. While I typically prefer a smooth cream queso dip to a Fundido, this Fundido was a winner, and I would easily order it again. The two cheeses, Chihuahua & Oaxaca chees,e were a perfect melty combo that was elevated with a balanced addition of chorizo, poblano peppers, and roasted corn. It was gooey without being too stringy, and the house-made corn nixtamal tortillas were fantastic. We could not stop eating them. Next up was the grilled octopus, which turned out to be my favorite dish of the night. The Pulpo Ceviche featured perfectly grilled octopus with red onion, cilantro, lime, goat butter (I am not sure I have ever had goat butter, who knew?), tomato, avocado, and cucumber. As an octopus aficionado, I can confidently say this was one of the best preparations I've had in Grand Rapids. The octopus was tender and charred just right, and the citrusy marinade, along with the other fresh ingredients, created a flavor explosion in every bite. I highly recommend it; I could have eaten two servings of this and walked out the happiest camper!

MeXo far exceeded our expectations. This was our first stop on our taco and margaritas crawl for my wife's birthday. It's a high-end, authentic Spanish style and themed restaurant. We only ordered drinks and appetizers, but they were amazing. Mario took great care of us and hooked us up. When he learned it was my wife's birthday, he brought out birthday churros for us. We will be visiting again and recommend you do too!

Pato Con Atapakua

I can't say I've ever been to a pre-Hispanic Mexican restaurant, so I wasn't quite sure what to expect. It was delicious and definitely changed my view of Mexican food. I'm thinking moles and other yummy foods! The Sikil P'aak/Pumpkin seed dip was delicious with their house-made tortilla corn chips. There was a hint of spice to complement the creamy deliciousness of the pepitas. Esquites/Roasted corn dip- this was easily my favorite of the night! Think of it kind of like street corn/elotes but in dip form. I would highly recommend this! Pato Con Atapakua- This wasa duck breast with Purepecha sauce, with black rice and charred zucchini. The zucchini was prepared simply, which served as a good canvas for the sauce. I couldn't tell any pineapple flavors though. The duck breast was cooked perfectly and was juicy. Quatro Leches Cake- OK I am super biased as dessert is my favorite, but this is a delicious play on the tres leches cake traditional dessert. Because it is soaked, it was super rich and moist, but somehow the cake itself holds up well to the soaking. Very fun!

Shrimp Pasilla

Service was prompt and friendly! We made a reso online through open table. Apps- queso fundido is a must. Served with fresh corn tortillas. Truly amazing. Salsa duo is sooo good- one was spicy, one chunkier and middle is pickled veggies. Corn dip was 50/50- some loved, some didn't. I thought it has a little smoke to it. Baja tacos- felt like a safe order from me but it was sooo good. Really good crunch on the fish and the salsa paired well. Shrimp pasilla- shrimp was great and good amount on the plate. Loved the sauce. The rice was not cooked and cold. Enchiladas rojos- same comment about the rice- cold and not fully cooked. The enchilada is chicken filled and the sauce was good. The person that got this felt it was Smokey sauce but I didn't think it was overpowering. DIY tacos- steak. Fun experience putting this together. Also a safe order but sooo good! Goat cheese churros- get this, trust me. You don't taste goat cheese but the inside is soft and warm and outside very crisp. The caramel sauce was warm and delicious.

Carne Asada a la Tampiquena 1939

Visiting from out of town, both my mom and I thoroughly enjoyed the fresh Mexican food from MeXo. I ordered their Carne Asada a la Tampiqueña 1939 and mom the guacamole (lighter appetite than myself). Both were delicious. The steak melted in your mouth! We had very quick service, and the interior is filled with authentic Mexican art and graphics. Outside, there are tasteful, welcoming murals. From someone who has Mexican food nearly everywhere in Los Angeles, this is one Mexican restaurant I wish they had in LA!

Did you know that Lindo Mexico has the best salsa in the world?! It's absolutely my favorite…read morebecause they actually roast the veggies they blend together for salsa. Try it; you won't regret it. Did you also know that Lindo Mexico is a woman owned business? I love that, and want to show them some love this month while Yelp supports women owned businesses. Stop by Lindo Mexico sometime this month and enjoy a delicious meal (I specifically adore their burritos, tacos and camarones meals). If you come on a weekend you may be privileged to watch a free mariachi band during your meal. Enjoy! Cheers!!

The waitress was friendly and busy. The seating was a little tight depending on where you sit. Our table was almost blended into the one next to us. The food was good. The menu is partially in Mexican, so be prepared to either use a translation app or guess what you're getting based on photos. We ordered or thought we ordered the #9 lunch but got something a bit different but still very tasty. The plate was full of all the standard stuff, beans, rice, salad, main dish. The chicken under the cheese was delicious and moist. The beans and rice were flavorful without being dry. The salsa was unique. It was something of an acquired taste. The margarita flight was delicious! The prickly pear and traditional were our favorites. The blue one was a close second or third. The mango with the spicy rum was our least.
