Heather Stone Smiddy and her staff have truly made me feel like family. For a personal health reason I'm an extremely picky eater or sometime cant stomach anything. We finally decided to try Chapter 2 and one word comes to mind...AMAZING!! The process for ordering was super simple just via text. As soon as our food was ready for pick up we got a text and they brought the food right to our vehicle. The young gal who helped us was very sweet and attentive. We ordered the special which was chicken over linguine with a cilantro white wine butter sauce and it was delicious. The flavors were all on point and the sauce was perfectly portioned. The corn fritters were out of this world delicious and that spicy aioli sauce drizzled on top really made it that much better. I wasn't even aware that Chapter 2 existed until a friend recommended we check it out. So GLAD we did. We had, by far, the best meal we've had in Tracy in ages. Whenever we try out a new place, we generally order more than we need so we can sample the menu. Every single thing we had was excellent. Appetizers: Fried Pickle Chips: The best fried pickles we've ever had. Lightly coated, fried to perfection, and the pickles had a robust dill flavor. Served with sauces, both of which were a good complement. 5/5. Corn fritters with spicy aioli and hot honey Good size, fried nicely, nice flavor. A tad dry in the middle but they tasted great with the sauces and the pepperjack cheese sauce of the next dish we tried. 4/5. Southwest Crispy Waffle Fries, with Pepperjack Cheese Sauce, Tomato, Jalapeno, and Avocado. Simply divine. A perfect dish to start the meal. Technically, we were debating on ordering this, but the hostess threw them in for free since she overheard us talking about them. 5/5. Entrees: 2 of us ordered their special of the week: German Brauts with Sauerkraut in a beef broth. The sausage was flavorful and cooked perfectly. The kraut was delicious! This was a wonderful dish. I hope they bring it back again! 5/5 The New York steak with chunky red mashed potatoes was delicious! And, kudos to the chef for cooking it to rare perfection. A wonderful menu item. Simply delicious. 5/5 The Kentucky Burger had caramelized onions, blue cheese, bacon and a jam whisky served with more waffle cut fries. The burger was awesome, cooked perfectly and the flavors paired perfectly for the palate.5/5 All servings were very large and we ate way too much since the food was so delicious! Next time, we'll likely order less appetizers since the entrees were so generous and delicious. We also tried two desserts: a special bread pudding with caramel sauce and French beignets served with a chocolate sauce. Both were divine and were 5/5. Honestly, our dinner at Chapter 2 on Saturday was one of the best meals we've had in the past year, including those we've had in international locations. This coupled with a fun hostess and amazing staff make this a must-visit restaurant in the Central Valley and Bay Area. I should also point out that the menu on Saturday was labeled "temporary due to staff shortages" so kudos to the team there for pulling together and making and serving wonderful, tasty food. Oh, they also have a full bar too and their dark latte beer was amazing too. Sadly, we didn't think to take pictures before we started eating! Right now Chapter 2 is only open Wed thru Saturday for dinner. They first opened during the first lockdown so their journey to keep afloat has been arduous to say the least. The food is amazing, the kids burger is the same size as a normal but with a skinnier patty. They are really kind and you can even chit chat with the owner. Been wanting to try this spot for so long and I finally got to come here tonight with my husband. We're celebrating our 15 years so I went in and all out. We got the corn fritters, ny steak with mash potatoes and veggies and the chicken piccata pasta & the breakfast burger for just the two of us. I couldn't decide on steak or pasta but soooo glad we did all of it. I loved the white wine and lemony flavors in the sauce. 1 star for customer service and 2 1/2 stars for the food. Waiters and waitresses were not wearing masks. Masks were not enforced on customers either. How reckless of them. Tried this restaurant for dinner tonight. The owner seemed very indifferent/cold to us during our time here. We were not greeted as we came in. Owner proceeded to chat with someone in line for the restroom while we were next to her waiting to be seated. Grabbed some menus and tossed them onto the table and walked away before we even turned the corner and saw the table. Then she proceeded to talk to every table but ours the entire night. Our waitress was fine. However she never checked with us to see how the food was (which was not impressive), never offered to refill our drinks, and even gave us the wrong bill at the end. We were the ones having to wave her down to get anything. They obviously had a lot of regulars who they favored catering to. But this isn't a good way to gain some new customers. We're local and want to support small businesses but if we're going to be treated coldly then why would we bother coming back when the food wasn't that great? In the time of COVID, restaurants have struggled, service has suffered, and sometimes even the quality of the food has been lacking. But not at Chapter 2. You guys are rolling with the punches, persevering in tough times, and making it look easy. I see you. My BF and I have been here twice, and have really enjoyed our food both times. We tried the Mac n cheese, the chicken piccata pasta and the NY steak. All were delicious. The beers on tap are local and interesting, not just a bunch of boring IPA's. I have seen multiple posts from this restaurant and finally decided to give them a try because I LOVE a good risotto and that's what drew me in as it was a weekly special. The pick up during a pandemic was really easy - I believe they are doing indoor dining as well but I'm being extra cautious so order for pick up is what I did. I saw a back patio area set up but not sure if that's being used as the front is a big parking lot for a strip type shopping area. You text your order, they confirm and when you park out back a runner brings you your food which is very convenient. The person who brought it out to my car didn't have a mask on but they did stay a decent distance from me seeing how I had mine on. I ordered a few things to try and the fritter was decent (I don't know why I expected pieces of corn in there but would that have then been a cake?). The sauce on top was wonderful and I wish I had more of it so I could dip the fritter in more. I also ordered the shrimp scampi starter and that was good. The lemony scampi taste came thru and brea was a great vessel for it to dip in and enjoy. The caprese was yummy - I like a good balsamic and they also had pesto at the base which added to the flavor. The tomatoes were standard tomatoes and I get it so overall a good dish. I didn't have much need for the pita that was included but I'm sure I could have made an almost avo toast with that and the pesto. I ordered the risotto with chicken and one with shrimp. It was a good risotto but not one that would have me craving to go back, might have been it was not as creamy as some of the ones I've had. The shrimp was great - I took a cast iron at home and just did a light sear on them. The paper used to place the food on did impart some color onto the food so I was a little worried about that. I don't think that dye is meant to be consumed but something I'm sure the restaurant can look into. The food overall was good for the price and I'm glad to have tried this spot out. Huge Rave for Chapter 2!!!! Treated my dad tonight during his visit & when he said that he was in the mood for a burger I knew just the place! Knowing that they have been short staffed we went in earlier than usual and were quickly greeted and seated at their last available table. The atmosphere there is very homey and inviting with laughter and amazing aromas throughout the restaurant. It is very obvious that every single detail there was done with care & love. We both had burgers, I ordered the Kentucky burger (omg amazing, seriously the best burger that I've had) & my dad stayed inside his realm of ordering Bruce's build-a-burger (without building anything in addition to the standard burger toppings that it came with). Although we had to cut our dinner short due to my dad's insulin pump being blocked, we very much enjoyed our meal and kept interrupting each other's sentences with, "this is so good." When we had to cut things short, Heather was very accommodating and quickly ran our card and grabbed a box for my dad's half eaten meal. My dad refused to leave until he finished his campfire stout and said that this is his favorite restaurant in Tracy. Chapter 2 has excellent fries and their ranch (which had a dill flavor to it) was exquisite! I got the bourbon bacon burger, as did the rest of my party. I found the burger to be kind of flavorless and it was also quite overcooked; I had to keep dipping mine in ketchup to enjoy it a little better. They also had live music that was kind of loud and distracting (it could have been enjoyable had my party came for a different type of outing, but we came to catch up and talk and could barley hear each other). Also, my platter came with literally only like four waffle fries and I asked the waitress if I could have some more and I ended up getting charged $4 for the extra fries she brought out. Their menu was a smaller menu related to them being short staffed. I am definitely willing to give them another try, related to the fact that I understand being short staffed and the effect that can have. Our first time at Chapter 2, and was definitely not disappointed. The food was delicious. We had their corn fritters that were moist and delicious. We also had house salads which were definitely some of the best salads we have had in Tracy. Portion was great and the Ranch and Blue Cheese very tasty. The Sloppy Joe was also delicious. Chapter 2 is a Tracy treasure and an amazing success story. This restaurant exists because of true grit, persistence and insistance by people in a community that refuses to give up or give in. That said, the food is great, service is always on point. And I have eaten here many, many times. The wait staff are the kind of people that will get to know you by name and remember what your preferences are. If you want a place that will feel like home, you've found it. C2 has a long history in Tracy. I won't go into details about its lineage or how it came to be; something you should discover yourself through experiencing it.
