If you don't own a firearm, first get your FOID card, then buy a .22 or .380 pistol. Get a medium sized pistol, not a small concealed type. You can get a little one after you learn how to shoot. You can bring the larger size to the concealed carry class.

absolutely horrible experience!!! i moved here from phoenix arizona where guns are very normal and…read morepeople walking into a shop just to look around is very typical. i came into bs firearms (bullsh*t firearms) because i was new to the area and just wanted to see what kind of prices they had. i had not yet applied for a void card, i was just curious to what they had to offer in their store. anyways, after a extremely rude customer service experience, i left because i didnt feel comfortable being in this store, after i left, he called the police on me and said i seemed suspicious because i didnt have a void card and was just looking around, he then told them i got into a rental car, which was actually my bright orange mitsubishi with a bunch of unpainted body kit parts with an arizona plate which resembled absolutely nothing like a rental car, he also told them i seemed under the influence which i was not. fuck this place do not go here unless you want to be discriminated against for being an out of towner and then have police called because you were very respectfully asking questions about different products. if i could give 0 stars i would!!!!

This was was great for me because I got to pick up and hold different types and see what felt nice and comfortable. So now when purchasing a pistol I have an idea of what I want. Not only are you allowed to check out the pistols they have so many different holsters. I loved that we were able to check out those as well. At the range the atmosphere was professional yet comfortable besides the wind lol. Dave and his helpers had so much patience and took their time helping everyone. Matt is an excellent instructor who clearly knows what he is doing, is a professional and is very patient (good for me, ha!). Even if you never decide to carry, his class teaches you some real good things on situational awareness that you can take away and use in your everyday life. Matt also has a firearms simulator where you can run drills that you would not be able to do on the range. My parents took this class last year and had been nudging me to sign up. I kept putting it off because sitting in a classroom for 8 hours over a weekend sounded like a nightmare. The class was engaging, informative, filled with real-life examples that tied directly into their experience, all while tying in their great senses of humor. It was clear this wasn't just a dull PowerPoint read-along like I feared I'd get elsewhere. Their team is equally amazing: super personable and helpful, both in the classroom and out on the range. I didn't catch everyone's names, but every single staff member made the environment feel comfortable and judgment-free, which I really appreciated.
