During my CNA class I failed an exam on washing someone because I said, "ok I'm going to wash your…read morebutt" and ruined their personal dignity, apparently. Instead of coming to me one on one and explaining why I failed herself, I was berated in front of the whole class for it by the teacher. I felt incredibly singled out because everyone else in my class was saying diapers instead of depends. So you can't say butt, but it's ok to tell an 85 year old to put on their diaper, a thing associated with children, and apparently that does not destroy their dignity. (sarcasm) The point is, if you're going to enforce rules to help protect people's dignity, start by helping your students, not by making them feel small or insecure. If you berate your students in front of the class, the class as a whole will be a lot less receptive towards you. This was years ago and the memory of the teacher standing in front of the class making fun of me still hurts.

I will preface this review by stating that the phlebotomy program is divided into two sections: a…read more5-hour session that consists of reading a textbook to completion, and a 5-hour session that the 'school' qualifies as the clinical portion of the program. The clinical portion, which no health organization recognizes as an actual clinical, is run professionally. You will leave knowing how to correctly draw blood. The purpose of the 'theory section' is to 'finish the book'. What the institute does not tell you is that 90% of the material in the book that you are forced to complete is not relevant in any way to being a phlebotomist or passing the NHA certification exam. The answer was consistent when the administrators were asked why we needed to know the entire book- "You need to read the entire book." You are made to type out all of the questions at the end of each chapter and answer them. These are eventually looked at and full credit is given. I have seen the grading process and not once was a homework assignment actually validated in any way. Also, all of the answers are in the back of the book making these assignments nothing more than busy work. There is a mandatory project where you have to talk about a blood condition for five minutes, using either a power point presentation or a poster board. Again- this wasted valuable class time and ultimately taught the class nothing. One assignment provided internet links to aid in completion- all of the links were dead or broken. The phlebotomy program at HTI is the only program offered there without a real clinical portion. When applying for a job you will be asked about your clinical experience- that is unfortunate because you have none. The average amount of needle sticks resulting from a true clinical environment averages around 300... HTI averages 30. The administrators are a husband and wife and their involvement in minimal at best. The most communication that you will have with them will pertain to you making your tuition payments on time. Their sole motivation is money- they offer no job placement assistance. They did try to rush an hour-long seminar on how to apply and interview for a job. The advice given is akin to the advice given to an inmate who needs to acclimate to society- none of the information was relevant. Keeping a clean car was stressed... We were given quizzes on every chapter each week. We were given the same quiz twice because the admin made copies of the wrong quiz. She made us take the quiz again and told the class that everyone did poorly. There is zero accountability at this institution. The questions on the quizzes have little or no correlation to the information that is needed for NHA certification. They will tell you to let them know where you are working so they can use that information to sell to program to prospective students. I raised issues throughout the duration of the class- they were all ignored. Even though the admin asked repeatedly for concerns, she really did not want to hear any as there was an excuse for everything and no complaint was valid. Her husband stole a study guide from a student, refused to return it when confronted, and then handed a version of it out to the class the following session. These people do not care about your future, your career, or your development as a phlebotomist. This is a cash-grab in the worst sense. They prey on people who do not have any knowledge of the medical field or the requirements necessary to secure a position in the field you are studying. I received an A+ in the class, was the only student hired directly from class before it ended, and I just took the NHA exam. I can say that there was next to zero correlation between the subject matter we were taught from the book and the questions on the exam. The lexicon, situations, and emphasized areas on the exam were footnotes at best in the class. Save your hard earned money and go to Joliet Junior College. This will serve you far better than the 2-month session at HTI.

AMAZING class! It was a color class, and let me say I felt like I learned more in the three hours I was there then I learned in school. The instructors of the class were Patty Lehr, Lynn Griglin, and Darlene Burnham... There aren't words to describe how amazing these three women are. They were willing and they took the time to answer any questions that we had and they answered them in a respectful and professional way without making us feel bad about having to ask a question. After the class we were able to stop in the wholesale shop which has a HUGE selection of wholesale Professional Salon Products, from Bracoto, to Paul Mitchell, to you name it and they probably had it. On top of having an awesome merchandised shop the staff here in 'The Space' were so extremely knowledgeable about the products they are selling in their store. You do have to be a Licensed professional in order to buy from this store, but that is not a problem at all. Now Rockdale is quite a drive for me but I say it is 500% worth the drive for the class as well as the customer service and the positive energy you get from just being around such great people. I look forward to taking more classes as well as buying my salon products that I will need in the future! :)

Fast track classes since course was offered over 4…read moreweeks as opposed to the semester long period typically of high school- which we thought would be better. Well, read on. Child states classes were incredibly boring (instructor was lazy and rolled around in his chair, while teaching) and videos were "out of touch". It did not captivate my child's attention nor did it pique any interest in learning. We enrolled our child in this class for drivers education. He turned 16 in late spring. Classroom is sufficient but the students state "an old fat man that never stands up but rolls around on his office chair". Incredibly boring and monotone. Part of the class includes a "behind the wheel" driving with the instructor. Scheduling "behind the wheel" (BTW) instructor times was, to say the LEAST, one of the worst and most horrific experiences ever! EVER!! Instructions were very unclear on how to schedule - no phone calls allowed, only texts. This could be perceived as innovative however it was in fact obnoxious! Responses to texts were untimely (up to 10 hours later), during hours "outside of normal busier hours" and inconsistent, ie no response after several follow-ups). The scheduler was mean, rude, uncooperative, prejudiced and lacked any sense of decency. She refused to give out her name, so henceforth will be known as "Karen". Karen claimed that students needed to finish class work before being scheduled for BTW and, that they would need to practice driving before BTW scheduling occurred. WTF!! - I thought the instructors were to teach them with their specially equipped cars(brake on the instructors side)!!! That's why we send them to driving school - to learn how to drive with equipment that's not accessible to the public!!! We as parents do not have the proper automobiles that are equipped-the instructors should be taking this on as that is what we pay them for!! We as parents have the responsibility to hone our children's BTW experience after the basic concepts are taught! Seems this school is backwards and doesn't want to be held accountable for the outcome and wants the students that have driving experience! I do not recommend this school at all if you want to get your children licensed for the first time. It was not very expensive but I suppose, you get what you pay for. Never, ever have I encountered such terrible customer service from a person; I do not understand how this business still exists!! Whether it's "Ken's Driving School" or "1st Breese" (Breeze?) -- stay far away.
