My friend and I arrived about noon on Tuesday May 5th, 2026. I've been celebrating this date for years, and the Mexican restaurants are normally very busy on this day. Not in Cambridge, Minnesota, lots of floor space, but less than 10 people there, including my friend and I. The waiter came over with the menus, and I ordered a Marietta. Sorry the machine that makes them takes two hours and has another hour to go. "You do know this is Cinco de Mayo, right? No response, and he went away. After a while he came back and we ordered, I asked for the chicken taco platter. When the food arrived, they should have called it an onion taco, more onions than chicken. I tried pick them out, but it was just not good, and I left the second taco untouched, the rice and beans were just so-so, and after a couple of attempts I abandoned them, stactin the plates, and my friend did the same. The waiter returned with the bill, no conversation, and I remember thing "for what this meal cost we could have had a decent meal somewhere, and a marguetta". My friends and I were strawberry picking at Rod's and wanted some Mexican. This is one that came up. It was ok. I honestly would've passed had I known what it was like. The chips are straight out of a bag. The salsa is decent with a nice little hit of spice. They barely give you any salsa. The server was not attentive at all. My friend got the frozen marg and the other got the flight. I didn't care for whatever brand of tequila they were using. The restaurant itself is interesting and just has a giant open space in the middle. I ordered a cheese quesadilla because nothing peaked my interest on the menu and I was annoyed with the quality of the chips & salsa. My friend got a steak burrito, the other got a quesadilla, and last one got the birria tacos. The rice is dry and seems like it's days old, definitely not fresh. Tortilla's aren't made fresh either. It's all store bought stuff that you can make at home. We all just thought it was meeeh. Honestly, Taco Bell would have been better. This used to be a required stop for me on my way from the Twin Cities to my cabin in Grand Rapids. I like the food and service. The salsa and chips are especially yummy. Visited Chapala on a Friday around 5pm. The place wasn't very crowded but it still took a bit for us to get seated. My biggest complaint was that we never really had any table service. Chips weren't refilled and neither was our water, we had to call down multiple servers for help. But, they're menu is huuuuuuge. It took me a long time to decide what I wanted and I ended up selecting the Quesadilla (Quesadilla Ranchero I think) with chicken. It was quite good and I'd order it again. Fill this place up! Met a friend for lunch. He suggested this place since he is local to Cambridge. We basically had the place to ourselves. Bartender was very nice. Let me change the channel on the tv. Server was friendly and brought refills on our waters before they were gone. Food was excellent and came out very fast. My friend always gets the chipotle burrito which was huge. I went with the chicken lunch sized fajitas. Came out sizzling. I don't review a lot of Mexican restaurants mostly because I find the food to be very boring and don't indulge in this particular genre of cuisine very often. However, this establishment is the pinnacle of the "copy and paste" litany of similar eateries. The things this place offers are not fancy, nothing here is over the top, there's no crazy massive margaritas with a beer bottle sticking in the top, BUT what they provide is one of the best staffs I have ever encountered, and some of the most decadent food I have ever had the pleasure of stuffing into my face. The food is so good it made me a believer. My wife and I went for dinner on Thursday and received the highest quality service and some of the best tasting food EVER. At the end of the meal I leaned back in my booth exhausted and stunned at the sheer amount of food I had consumed only to find out I had somehow blacked out in an odd food high and eaten everything in front of me. This place is other-worldly great and is operating at nearly non-human level capacities for all around quality. Please eat here. read more
