This is a fantastic bed-and-breakfast. The rooms are really clean, comfortable, and well outfitted. It is in a perfect location to walk to downtown. It is fragrance free, something that is almost impossible to find. You can find more info about that on their website. I think some of the products in the bathroom have natural fragrances, like the soap. The towels and sheets smell like no fragrance or perfume was involved in their washing. I am very sensitive to fragrances. They're very friendly and flexible about check-in. Breakfast is delicious, and they are flexible for allergen needs. I love staying here. read more

Where do I start...if you want to be spoiled stay at this inn, but you will miss it when you leave!! My daughter moved to Ashland over a year ago and after her repeated requests I decided to finally  visit her. I was lucky to find availability and stayed at the Chanticleer inn for five nights, which was the most delightful lodging experience I had.  Beautiful craftsman bungalow, tastefully decorated to feel like home, every morning at 7am, the aroma of the coffee is so heavily, and at 9am you are treated to an amazing gourmet breakfast, and a wonderful conversation with the beautiful and charismatic Angela the host. These breakfasts were the best meals I had in Ashland, in fact it turned out that the Chanticleer inn gourmet breakfast was well known in town. I had a room over looking the garden furnished and decorated with warmth and your comfort in mind, and with lots of style. The room was so quiet and the bed was so comfortable that my sleep score was 92 on my fit bit tracker which was the highest that I have ever seen. My room was overlooking the charming garden with many quaint seating areas. The neighborhood is beautiful, I walked every morning before breakfast. Some days I also walked to the beautiful nature and creek at Lithia park, which is not that far from the inn. Downtown Ashland is down the street from the inn, a very beautiful and cozy village, make sure to allow time to visit and enjoy it. If you want character, excellent customer service, healthy fresh made breakfast and a homey feeling - this is your spot. So dog friendly. Angela was spectacular. You will not get this level of customer service and attention at some box hotel or air bnb. I loved the fact that breakfast was at 9a so you could relax in. The location doesn't get any better. Walk around the downtown streets and everything you need. There is a small private parking lot. I really enjoyed the outdoor space being fenced in to let my dog run freely. Angela is wonderful at those small hidden touches. My only suggestion for improvement would be more counter space in the bathrooms =) You will not regret your stay here. read more

We have been to many bed and breakfast places in various locations. But hands down this was the best appointed, comfortable and inviting. Angela the Inn Keeper was out of this world! It was like coming home to a best friend and catching up right where we left off. Her knowledge of Ashland is nothing short of the best tour guide ever to make your stay beyond expectations. Her cooking and hospitality unparalleled. I can go on and on, but all I know is we left completely satiated on every level. We even left wearing her vintage clothing and with a cache of awesome deco from her yard sale of her unbelievable collection of unique things! We will be back sooner than later! read more

Just stayed at Chanticleer for the second time and had a very nice visit. Spacious room with AC and a comfortable sitting room. Nice outdoor seating options too in the spacious garden. We stayed here for a few days on our recent Ashland jaunt. It's a very well-landscaped, nice little property on Gresham Street, a few blocks from town. Couple of caveats: The Pertelote room (the only room available since we booked kinda last-minute) is directly under the kitchen, so we got woken up at 7:30-8 AM every morning by people upstairs prepping breakfast. We did peek in a few of the other rooms and they looked nice, so those might be a better option. The property is a few blocks from the theaters but the last block is a fairly steep hill, so watch out if you're out of shape. Breakfast was tasty and *not* enormous (I hate it when you get so stuffed at breakfast that you don't want lunch, but you have a 1:30 play so you need to eat). The hosts were friendly folks who used to work in the tech sector so we had plenty in common. Oatmeal chocolate chip cookies at 11:30 after a play were a very nice treat. Yay B&B! read more

What a delightful place to stay! The proprietor was so helpful with fun suggestions for restaurants and things to do. The breakfast was so delicious each morning. Every afternoon there were home baked goods. There are so many places to sit in the gardens surrounding the house and of course, downtown is within walking distance! My room was clean, cozy and had a lovely view out the windows. Would definitely stay here again! read more

Hubby, hooch and I just spent two delightful days at Chanticleer and in Ashland. Love the town, and it was a real treat to stay in a b&b rather than a motel. We chose a room that allowed dogs; it had an outside door which made it easy. Ellen is very knowledgeable about anything you can throw at her so we had some nice conversation. As someone else mentioned, the breakfast was, thankfully, not too huge, so you leave with marvelous tastes on the tongue and no stuffed feeling. My only disappointment was the small size of the TV and no remote. Shame on me for wanting to watch TV while in Ashland, but that would have made it perfect. This did not cause me to downgrade my rating though. Will certainly return. read more

This place was just perfect! Ellen (the owner) was courteous, warm and welcoming. She answered all of my emails before hand and greeted us with plenty of ideas about things to do in Ashland when we arrived. Inn is within walking distance of downtown Ashland (2 minutes). B&B's offer both a place to sleep, and breakfast in the morning. Good B&B's feel like a home away from home. The Chanticleer is of the latter. Ashland offers a very diverse culture, reminiscent of Berkeley (CA), but with a strong focus on a small-town feel. You wont find discount chain stores, nor a Motel 6, inside the city. In fact, the presence of well-known banks and a Starbucks seems to be the only concession, within the town proper. Undoubtedly, the most popular attraction of Ashland is the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. And one of the most enjoyable places to stay, is at a local B&B. If you've not stayed at a B&B before, then the Chanticleer may make for an excellent first experience. Step inside to a warm and cozy atmosphere, as Ellen and Howie are not only pleasant hosts, but good friends. Whether you're staying a day or a week, you can leave your room to read a newspaper, chat and relax with others, sit on the porch and have coffee and fresh baked cookies, relax in the garden with a bit of port and a book while watching for deer, or, well, the list really does just go on. While the morning does bring fresh coffee, orange juice, and a home made breakfast with seating at two tables, this really is only part of the value that the Chanticleer offers. While it is up to one's own choice where their time is spent, in one's private room, a common area, or out and about, a vacation can be even better with the comfort of feeling at home while away from home. read more

Lovely, quiet and friendly spot to stay. A quick 5 minute walk (with a hill) to theaters, town, restaurants....but a quiet and peaceful garden setting that makes for a wonderful respite. Best experience I've had staying at someone else's house. Ellen makes you feel great being away from home, and she is dog friendly. She takes great care in the breakfast she prepares for her guests. You could not find better treatment anywhere in Ashland. Chanticleer Inn is only a short walk to the Shakespeare festival, and Crater lake is a few hours drive. It's a pity there can only be Chanticleer Inn. I highly recommend a stay here. read more

Our recent 4 day stay at the Chanticleer Inn B&B in Ashland, Oregon was delightful start to finish. The attention to detail from home baked cookies, the morning paper, lovely aperitifs and glasses to delicious eye catching breakfasts was greatly appreciated. Our host was warm and genuine, but never intrusive. The charming inn has beautiful paintings, tapestry, pottery while maintaining a non stuffy relaxed airy ambience. Given its proximity to the theaters, shops and Lithia Park, we never used our car. We highly recommend the Chanticleer for a fun, relaxed, and engaging time while visiting Ashland. read more

As first time B&B patrons, we were not sure what to expect... we figured it was like staying at a friends house, but you did not know the friend. By the end of our stay we felt like were friends. Ellen and the staff are very friendly and helpful especially if you need recommendations on things to do and see in Ashland and Oregon in general! Breakfast was a great treat, personal sized dutch babies with homemade berry fruit compote! You can't find that at a restaurant in town, but it is in her cookbook :) We have to disagree with Michaela... we stayed in the Pertelote room and did not hear anything! Comfortable beds, beautiful garden, quick walk into town, great breakfast, and a relaxed wonderful atmosphere and all around great experience. My husband and I have stayed at Chanticleer Inn for 11 years, attending OSF plays and getting to know the town and surrounding country. From the first visit we knew we would not stay anywhere else in Ashland. The rooms are lovely, comfortable and quiet. The breakfast prepared each day is beyond anything I've ever had for breakfast--we savor every bite of the first meal of the day! Beyond the physical comforts are the social, natural and intellectual comforts provided by the Inn. At table every morning there are lively discussions, comparisons of travel and experience and life stories. The exquisite gardens surrounding the house are relaxing and impressive. We stayed here in July 2018. It was a perfect choice for us. It is walking distance to the plays and restaurants. There are wonderful garden areas outside to hang out talking or to read. (The pictures do not do it justice.) Our room was big and had everything we needed. Breakfast was excellent and we loved the nice touch of having chocolate chip cookies available all the time. The inn is just the right size leading to interesting breakfast conversations with other guests. Good to have a little interaction with them but not feel like you were sharing a vacation. (I like my privacy too.) Ellen is very friendly and helpful - an ideal host. read more

I am surprised that no one leaves a yelp review here. Just as well because I don't want it to be over crowded! Me and my husband stayed here for 3 nights and everything was great. Ellen, the owner is really personable and makes you feel very welcomed. I will most likely stay here again. Breakfast is great but eating egg dish for 3 days in a row was bit much but it tasted good. Just wish that we had something different but understand the reason why it must be done that way from the business perspective! By the way, the coffee is the bomb! read more

My wife and I spent two magical days in Ashland in August. The weather was gorgeous. Two nights of Shakespeare were splendid. And to top it all off, there was the Chanticleer Inn! Our room, Fleur, was warm and comfy. The garden hammock was a wonderful place to relax. The other guests were interesting and companionable. The breakfasts were out-of-the-world delicious. What a nice place to stay! Very comfortable, relaxed decor - you don't get the Victorian furniture you're afraid to sit on at this place. The room was very pleasent and the garden lovely. Very conveniently located to the Festival - be prepared if walking is difficult as there is a small, but steep hill from the town's main street. We have been staying at the Chanticleer for several years during our annual trips to Ashland for OSF and the many other fun recreational options available in southern Oregon. A former B&B host directed us to Chanticleer when she decided to close. As much as we loved that B&B, we love Chanticleer even more. After several years, we regard Chanticleer as a "home away from home." Ellen is warm and welcoming and has a knack for bringing her guests together for great conversation and sharing of mutual interests. Breakfasts, whether sweet or savory (Ellen rotates), are invariable delicious and as another reviewer noted, healthy. In addition to being informed on OSF news and the plays, Ellen knows where the good hiking, food and wine, rafting and other area gems are located. (Sammy's and Amuse for great food, Noah's for great rafting, and Table Mountain for hiking.) The inn is an old Craftsman house on a quiet street close to everything, including an easy 5 minute walk to OSF. The house was carefully expanded by the original innkeeper and was one of the first B&Bs in Ashland. One thing we appreciate is the warm and inviting atmosphere at Chanticleer -- not too cute or pretentious -- just tastefully furnished and comfortable in both the rooms and indoor common areas and garden. Our favorite room is Jardin, which is on the garden level. The room has a stove and plenty of room to stretch out, and includes a private garden entrance if you want to stretch out and read on the hammock for a couple of hours. The local, handmade/organic bath products and homemade cookies are just two of the special touches at the inn. We have stayed in inns all over the U.S. and the world and we still think that Chanticleer ranks with the best. read more
