Overall a decent place for Korean food. I'd really give it a 3.5 star. It's clean, service is prompt, and in a shopping center with lots of other food options and desserts. We ordered the intestine tofu soup and grilled mackerel combo. If you order a combo, the bowl for the tofu soup is slightly smaller than a standard order. The soup comes with white steamed rice in a special pot to eat that scorches a little on the bottom in which you add a little hot tea. They give lots of banchan, 9 total which is more than most places. The mackerel came out battered and fried which I wouldn't have ordered if I knew since it said "grilled", not fried. The tofu stew was a bit too salty. It does come with a nice amount of tofu. Other than taking our order and bringing out the food, no other contact with the server. Not sure if I'd return since there's so many other Korean restaurants.
What a major turnaround. There are two new ladies who work there now and we also met the chef who makes all the food. The food is delicious and service is top notch. My friend and I really enjoyed our lunch there and we will definitely be back!
Wonderful restaurant!!! Staff is kind and attentive, food is fresh, flavors are yummy, the inside is free of any distracting tvs, just a pretty landscape mural. Their tteokbokki is perfect
When I come home for a visit I love to stop by. This is my 2nd visit. The staff are so sweet and friendly. It's great that they put the soondubu soup with a grilled meat. It makes it easier for you to order. I got galbi and seafood soup. The best part about coming here is they serve so many banchan varieties. I was served 14 wonderful banchan right after I ordered. I liked them all but their kimchi is so good! They bring an egg out so that you can crack it on top of your boiling soup that comes out. Everything was delicious. It is a must try place for authentic Korean.
No notes. I mean c'mon, look at ALL of this banchan! Plus, they let you add ramen to your tofu soup for just $1.99 more (which surprisingly not all places are willing to do). I also feel like the spicy tofu soup is the perfect amount of spicy. You can taste it but it's not going to kill you.
Chanmaru was highly recommended to me as a quintessential Korean food spot. When we arrived, I was impressed by the array of banchan we had. We had the soondubu jjigae/galbi combo for $30, which sounds like a good deal, though they were slightly on the small side. The soondubu jjigae was rich and mildly spicy - overall delicious. The galbi cuts were thin but delicious and well-seasoned. I ordered the japchae, which was deliciously savory and had a good mix of meat/veggies in it. The staff here were accommodating - we were running late and cutting it close to when the kitchen closed, but they took our order over the phone and had it ready when we arrived! Unfortunately, I had an upset stomach shortly after eating here. I ate more of the japchae and certain banchan than my partner (who did not have such symptoms). Something may have been wrong with those dishes. Overall, I liked the vibes and the food enough that I would be willing to go back and have the soondubu or other hot/fresh dishes again.
Overpriced, inconsistent taste in food, and if you get their food to go then you get half of what they offer in restaurant with no discount. These guys have ok food on a good day. Some days the food is great and some days it is absolutely terrible. I thought it was because they were busy but it was not a busy day at all when we last visited. The food was just bad. Then on another day my mom and I decided to get some food to go and boy were we shocked. The to go container was super tiny compared to other equivalent places. They only gave us 1/3 of the side dishes (not even half), the rice was a different kind of rice (not cooked the same way as dine in), they did not include an egg with the soup, and even the service was bad .. and it was a to go order. How was the food bad? The soup was not flavorful but also VERY salty. It tasted like salt soup. When they tried to fix it they made it worse. It came back with a completely different color broth and even smelled different but not in a good way. It smelled gamey. The meat dishes we ordered were overcooked, dry, and more than half of the meat on the bone was fat - like huge chunks of fat. This last time I think I finally decided to stop giving these guys the benefit of the doubt. Just don't go here. Don't waste your time and money. Spare the disappointment for an umbrellaless rainy day.
After driving by this spot countless times, I finally decided to give it a try. I ordered the galbi combo with spicy cold noodles and mackerel. Everything was delicious, but the Bonchon selection really stood out--each dish was a hit. The kimchi was perfectly balanced, juicy, and full of flavor, while the cold spicy buckwheat noodles were an absolute favorite. The best part? We were served by the most charming grandma, who made the experience even more special. The atmosphere is laid-back and welcoming, making it a great place to relax and enjoy a meal.
I thought Chanmaru was just OK. I'm not sure if it's because my fiancé and I only ordered the soondubu & galbi combo to share, we were just treated a bit coldly (we didn't realize the portions were gonna be quite small for the price). We ended up ordering their 4pc mandu towards the end to feel more full (we didn't want to be too full since we live far and try to make the most of our Carrolton trip by getting desserts in the area). Also, while they do offer a lot of different banchans, they all tasted almost the same/bland. Food wasn't anything memorable. For the same price, I feel like the portion and flavor at BCD is better. The main reason why I wanted to try this place is because of their banchan but Dal Dong Nae, Sura and Seoul Garden offer tastier ones. They weren't busy by any means but no one stopped by to check in on us and when the bill was dropped off, the lady just placed it on the table without saying anything or looking at us. We weren't thanked even when we left. I mean.. I guess we're not obligated to a thank you but don't restaurants usually thank their customers? We weren't rude or needy so to be treated like that made us not want to go back there. 3 stars is on the higher side but it's because others talked highly of this place. And looking at other pictures, it seems they do offer better banchans depending on the day. Just because I didn't like it or had an OK experience, I hope it doesn't deter people from trying it. They do have a lot more items on their menu which I wanted to try but personally, because I know where I can have a more enjoyable Korean food experience I will not be returning.
Visited for lunch as a party of two, sat right away. Food came out very quickly and the amount of sides they bring out is crazy! I believe unlimited bc she refilled some of our plates a couple of times without us asking. Friendly. Prompt. Clean. Wonderful shopping center, ample parking. We will be by again
A pretty delightful experience dining here with the fam. Know that if you do a combo, it's a lot of food, so we did 2 combos for 3 people. A tremendous array of side dishes. Only complaint was their internet went down & they could only take cash, but I don't really think it was their fault.
Chanmaru has become my favorite traditional Korean spot in town. Fairly new and away from the traffic of ktown, at least on my side. The food here is quality. Not overly pricey and good deals on combo sets. But I come here for the galbi tang (short rib soup). It's fantastic, filling and just tastes clean and delicious. But the tofu soups and meats are just as good. Another fave thing about this place are the wide array of sides they give you. Service is fairly quick and I've never seen this place crowded so you'll get attentive service. Vibe is that of a Korean family style restaurant. Highly recommend.
Wish I could give 0 stars, stay far away from this horrible place!! My god I can't even remember the last time I had such a terrible dining experience. From the moment me my hubby and baby walked in we felt cold vibes. The older lady serving us was rude from the beginning, I could tell my hubby was irritated and I asked him 3x if he wanted to leave. We had already drove a distance to get here because I really wanted to try the raw spicy crab. The server KEPT on asking us if we were ready to order and my man didn't know what he wanted, she seemed to be mad that we weren't ready and was rolling her eyes huffing and puffing, MIND you we were the only people in the whole restaurant.......... The server seemed upset in general that we were even dining here and now I wish I went with my first gut instinct to just leave, there are plenty of other restaurants that would love our business. A few other table started to arrive while we were deciding what to order and we both noticed that they were being brought a bunch of appetizers to there table. We were never brought anything............ I had to look on Yelp and see that the banchan was complimentary and asked another server for them. Thats ridiculous, it's like we were being judged the moment we walked in and had we not asked about the appetizers we never would've received them. The food was actually disgusting. Everything from the apps to the main dishes were horrible. The spicy raw crab was ok, however the bulgogi ribs were bad and cold. The soup was cold and gross. And to top it all off we were charged more than what was priced on the menu. The raw crab was supposed to be $29.99 and I was charged $32.99 the other entire was an extra 2 dollars as well. They purposely charged us more. When I asked another server said it was "a combo". I was NOT in the mood to argue with these people so we just took the extra charge out of there tip. We wasted $70 bucks on this trash. I highly recommend nobody come here, read the other reviews, everyone is saying the same thing they have terrible servers! I'm so disappointed, we could've went to chipotle and had better food/service!
New place, new area! Super good for two people if you like combos. The food was good. Galbi was delicious, great flavoring. The squid sauce is so good, my favorite. The pork rib was okay.. it taste like braised pork. Overall great place for korean food. $25 for tofu soup and a side of meat is good deal! read more
I was by myself on rainy day and I was craving for hot bowl of Korean soup. I was by myself occupying table for four people, but they still had plenty of seating so it was all good. I was amazed by side dishes, even though I was by myself. they were so delicious that I finished all of them definitely will be back read more
Restaurant decor was typical of a Korean restaurant and the tables and chairs were clean. I was surprised by the large varieties of side dishes brought to me as it was the most I've ever personally seen in a Korean restaurant. The service was also typical of a Korean restaurant. I liked most of the side dishes and just as a reminder, you could ask for free refills for any of the side dishes that you liked. The kimchi soontofu that I ordered was delicious but it was obviously not the best tasting soontofu in DFW (My personal favorite is Plano Sokongdong Tofu in terms of price and flavor). Also, you need to be careful not to touch the metal part of the rice container as it was scotching hot. Overall, I felt that this was a good restaurant with good food and I would certainly come back again. read more

I ordered a set of combination tofu soup and marinated crab. The size of tofu soup is much smaller than other places, not sure if it's due to being part of combo. The beef in the tofu soup is hard and overcooked, overall taste of the tofu soup isn't that great for my taste. They have many side dishes, but all in byte size and didn't offer to refill. I also didn't like their kimchi. I wouldn't say it's bad, but this restaurant wouldn't be top choices in the future. read more

Pretty average ~$14 soondubu here, but i will say the ingredients are substantial compared to most other korean restaurants and there is a large variety of banchan, which is reason i gave four stars. I left the place extremely full. Service and environment as a whole were good (except for these kids banging silverware against the table, but that's irrelevant here). Employees were quick to fill waters and banchan when we asked. Not sure i would come back given the number of other Korean restaurants in the area, but if you want substantial amount of Korean food this place will satisfy that. read more

1. Service - rude and employees laughing out loud. Music too loud. 2. Taste - edible. Nothing special. 3. Check your soundooboo and other banchan and other food items I found hair in mine. I ordered the soundooboo pork rib combo and the pork rib was terrible to say the least. I would not recommend this place. There are many places to eat Korean food. Don't come here.b read more

With so many korean restaurants in town I tend to look for Quality, Customer Service and Cleanliness. They had all 3 for me :) They opened a few weeks ago so they informed me that the menu and pricing will be changing so if you're interested this is the time to go! read more
The temperature is rising and that can only mean one thing. It's naengmyeon season! The other two places we wanted to try were both closed. Fortunately we remembered even though it's marketed as a soon tofu restaurant, Chanmaru also offers naengmyeon. We ordered both mul naengmyeon and bibim naengmyeon. The mul naengmyeon was light and refreshing. The bibim naengmyeon was sweet and spicy, which I really enjoyed. If I have to choose favorite, I would probably go with the later. Our meal also came with plenty of banchan. Though I appreciate the generosity, I thought they were just okay. Chanmaru is a sit down restaurant, not a self serve. We came at the same time with the lunch crowd and had to flag down a server a few times. They also have private rooms available. I will come back to try the soon tofu. read more

Look at all the Korean side dishes you get at Chanmura. We ordered the Godeunguh Gui Soontofu Combo (grilled mackerel with ramyun soontofu). We also ordered the LA Galbi, Daeji Galbi, and the Naengmyun (Buckwheat noodles with cold broth). The grilled mackerel, LA Galbi, and the Daeji Galbi were perfectly cooked. My daughter ate the buckwheat noodle cold broth. She loved it. But I really enjoyed all the side dishes. It's definitely going to be one of my favorite Korean restaurant. I will be back. This place is a must try! read more

By far, this place serves the most banchan I've seen placed on a table (lol). They were all good and their kimchi was more on the sweeter side (which I like). They had a wider variety of soontofu and the taste was on par with BCD Tofu. Their octopus bibimbap was flavorful and spicy. I liked that the rice came in a metal container, and you can eat some crunchy rice on the bottom (yum). Such a solid place for some greta traditional Korean food. 10/10 would come again! read more

Our dishes were as good as the surrounding competition. The service was excellent. They were very tentative. The place is new and clean. Over all it was a great meal. Their prices were a few dollars more than similar restaurants. read more
I was pleasantly surprised. I ordered spicy Soon Tofu with shrimp. I was expecting just the soup. Had no idea it came with so many sides and rice. Everything tasted delicious. I was dining alone and was almost intimidated by the portion, but everything was so good I ate most of it and got some leftover to go. I ordered medium spice level and it was still pretty spicy, so if your spice tolerance is not that much, order low spice maybe! If you are in Carrolton area in a Dallas and want some Korean food, try this place. read more

Loved this place! I really like BCD, but this place isn't as busy (for now) and the quality is better. They're still in soft opening so we ended up getting the LA galbi and soon tofu combo. We also got the seafood pancake. One of the best pancakes I've had in a while. Perfectly cooked, thin and crispy. The soup and meat were flavorful and delicious, as well. I'll definitely be back since it's so close to home. Service was very quick and attentive. read more

Saw the place on Yelp while driving by Hebron. Food was delicious and definitely met expectations. Comparable to most places you find near H mart. Giving 3 instead of 5 stars because service was a bit rude. They take things away from your table (like sauce and dishes you're eating) without even asking and when you're not looking. When we asked for to go boxes, they gave a a very small box that could not fit both our dishes and we had to ask for another which they hesitantly gave. There was some remaining side dishes on the table and we started to pack that, they said we can't take that to go, only our main entrees were allowed. I didn't understand that rule, that food was clearly eaten and would have gone to the trash, so why not take it home ? It's not like we ordered any extra sides just to take home. So again, food was good but bad service just leaves an uncomfortable taste in your mouth read more
