Typically whenever I see soon tofu soup at a Korean restaurant I can usually expect a banger, so it came as a surprise to me that this one didn't meet expectations. While it's better than the worst soon tofu in the metroplex (looking at you Soju 101 and both DanSungSa's), I would be hard pressed to come back. What left me underwhelmed was the soup's milder savory and umami flavors. I lean towards a saltier, less subtle taste, perhaps due to my Americanized palate. If you appreciate a more refined flavor, this might be up your alley. During our visit, we received six side dishes, whereas other reviews suggest they usually offer more - nearly double. To be fair, we were asked beforehand if this would be okay and we acquiesced. Of the banchan that we received, I didn't think too much of it either way meaning that it was fine and I only noticed it after going over the restaurant's other Yelp reviews before writing my own. At the end of the day though I think there's potential. The prospect of a second soon tofu soup speciality spot is exciting and more options is a win for the consumer. read more

Restaurant decor was typical of a Korean restaurant and the tables and chairs were clean. I was surprised by the large varieties of side dishes brought to me as it was the most I've ever personally seen in a Korean restaurant. The service was also typical of a Korean restaurant. I liked most of the side dishes and just as a reminder, you could ask for free refills for any of the side dishes that you liked. The kimchi soontofu that I ordered was delicious but it was obviously not the best tasting soontofu in DFW (My personal favorite is Plano Sokongdong Tofu in terms of price and flavor). Also, you need to be careful not to touch the metal part of the rice container as it was scotching hot. Pretty average ~$14 soondubu here, but i will say the ingredients are substantial compared to most other korean restaurants and there is a large variety of banchan, which is reason i gave four stars. I left the place extremely full. Service and environment as a whole were good (except for these kids banging silverware against the table, but that's irrelevant here). Employees were quick to fill waters and banchan when we asked. Not sure i would come back given the number of other Korean restaurants in the area, but if you want substantial amount of Korean food this place will satisfy that. read more

I love this place. I have been going a lot this year since I discovered place when I was search for spicy soft tofu soup; which became my fav Korean dish. Now, I keep bringing my friends with me and they love it to. The food and side dishes are just so flavorful. The vibes and ambiance is as it seems with Korean culture and lively plants all around. If you're a plant person, you'll appreciate the plants all around the restaurant. Service is good and they check in every now and then but is cautious in giving space for the customers. I appreciate that there are more Korean Tofu Soup Restaurant and taking up K-TOWNE PLAZA. Although, Chanmaru is Soondubu Restaurant, I think they are too weak. I've tried their SDB 2 times myself and few times from people I went with - they were always bland. I would recommend to their other options than Soondubu. I tried their galbitang - was salty first time, but just added water AND second time, it was good (so, consistency-wise, NOT SURE; just add water when it's salty) and bibimbap - I enjoyed them really a lot. I like their side dishes here - always fresh and well flavored. PS: if you want that fish (croaker) on side, don't expect because that was only available during grand opening - go to one in Carrollton if you want the fish free on side, lol. The temperature is rising and that can only mean one thing. It's naengmyeon season! The other two places we wanted to try were both closed. Fortunately we remembered even though it's marketed as a soon tofu restaurant, Chanmaru also offers naengmyeon. We ordered both mul naengmyeon and bibim naengmyeon. The mul naengmyeon was light and refreshing. The bibim naengmyeon was sweet and spicy, which I really enjoyed. If I have to choose favorite, I would probably go with the later. Our meal also came with plenty of banchan. Though I appreciate the generosity, I thought they were just okay. Chanmaru is a sit down restaurant, not a self serve. We came at the same time with the lunch crowd and had to flag down a server a few times. They also have private rooms available. I will come back to try the soon tofu. read more

Been on a galbi tang (beef short rib soup) kick and have tried several places in the area and Chanmaru so far has the best tasting and most tender beef. They give you scissors to cut the meat off the two big beef bones but honestly, you don't really need it because the meat just falls of the bone. The broth itself is really good, not too salty and has the clear noodles and strips of egg. The banchans are also really tasty and they have a good variety that differs from other Korean places. All in all, my favorite place in the area to get galbi tang. No comment on service, as I just get up to get a napkin when I need it and it's easy to flag a person to fill my water and if they aren't too busy, they'll just leave me my own pitcher of water. read more

We also ordered the LA Galbi, Daeji Galbi, and the Naengmyun (Buckwheat noodles with cold broth). The grilled mackerel, LA Galbi, and the Daeji Galbi were perfectly cooked. My daughter ate the buckwheat noodle cold broth. She loved it. But I really enjoyed all the side dishes. It's definitely going to be one of my favorite Korean restaurant. I will be back. By far, this place serves the most banchan I've seen placed on a table (lol). They were all good and their kimchi was more on the sweeter side (which I like). They had a wider variety of soontofu and the taste was on par with BCD Tofu. Their octopus bibimbap was flavorful and spicy. Found a great new Korean and Tofu house restaurant nearby! It's in the new Korean shopping center by the Popeyes chicken and OH! Supermarket and Leo's Brinch house. My husband and I went there for lunch today and were pleasantly surprised by how good it was. The restaurant name is Chanmaru. We had the Beef La Galbi and seafood soontofu soup combo, Spicy Pork Galbi and japchae. Everything was fresh, flavorful and well seasoned. I highly recommend going here! I know some may not prefer this but for those who do, this is a place you go for the banchan. If you order their Sunduboo, it comes with individually pressure cooked rice which is tasty. I was pleasantly surprised. I ordered spicy Soon Tofu with shrimp. I was expecting just the soup. Had no idea it came with so many sides and rice. Everything tasted delicious. I was dining alone and was almost intimidated by the portion, but everything was so good I ate most of it and got some leftover to go. I ordered medium spice level and it was still pretty spicy, so if your spice tolerance is not that much, order low spice maybe! Saw the place on Yelp while driving by Hebron. Food was delicious and definitely met expectations. Comparable to most places you find near H mart. Giving 3 instead of 5 stars because service was a bit rude. They take things away from your table (like sauce and dishes you're eating) without even asking and when you're not looking. When we asked for to go boxes, they gave a a very small box that could not fit both our dishes and we had to ask for another which they hesitantly gave. There was some remaining side dishes on the table and we started to pack that, they said we can't take that to go, only our main entrees were allowed.
