Overall a decent place for Korean food. I'd really give it a 3.5 star. It's clean, service is prompt, and in a shopping center with lots of other food options and desserts. We ordered the intestine tofu soup and grilled mackerel combo. If you order a combo, the bowl for the tofu soup is slightly smaller than a standard order. The soup comes with white steamed rice in a special pot to eat that scorches a little on the bottom in which you add a little hot tea. They give lots of banchan, 9 total which is more than most places. The mackerel came out battered and fried which I wouldn't have ordered if I knew since it said "grilled", not fried. The tofu stew was a bit too salty. It does come with a nice amount of tofu. Other than taking our order and bringing out the food, no other contact with the server. Not sure if I'd return since there's so many other Korean restaurants.
Chanmaru really hit the spot after 2.5 hours of straight pickleball. I got the beef tofu soup combo with kalbi. The server was nice enough to let us know we should order first before this big group otherwise we might be waiting a while. I guess there's no questions about spice level? Mine could have used a little more kick, but the flavor was great. I love love love that there's so much banchan provided with this meal and they asked if we wanted refills here and there. I forgot to take a picture of the kalbi, but it was delicious. The price is comparable to this tofu place I eat at in Seattle and you get much more sides so this is a great deal
What a major turnaround. There are two new ladies who work there now and we also met the chef who makes all the food. The food is delicious and service is top notch. My friend and I really enjoyed our lunch there and we will definitely be back!
Wonderful restaurant!!! Staff is kind and attentive, food is fresh, flavors are yummy, the inside is free of any distracting tvs, just a pretty landscape mural. Their tteokbokki is perfect
When I come home for a visit I love to stop by. This is my 2nd visit. The staff are so sweet and friendly. It's great that they put the soondubu soup with a grilled meat. It makes it easier for you to order. I got galbi and seafood soup. The best part about coming here is they serve so many banchan varieties. I was served 14 wonderful banchan right after I ordered. I liked them all but their kimchi is so good! They bring an egg out so that you can crack it on top of your boiling soup that comes out. Everything was delicious. It is a must try place for authentic Korean.
No notes. I mean c'mon, look at ALL of this banchan! Plus, they let you add ramen to your tofu soup for just $1.99 more (which surprisingly not all places are willing to do). I also feel like the spicy tofu soup is the perfect amount of spicy. You can taste it but it's not going to kill you.
Chanmaru was highly recommended to me as a quintessential Korean food spot. When we arrived, I was impressed by the array of banchan we had. We had the soondubu jjigae/galbi combo for $30, which sounds like a good deal, though they were slightly on the small side. The soondubu jjigae was rich and mildly spicy - overall delicious. The galbi cuts were thin but delicious and well-seasoned. I ordered the japchae, which was deliciously savory and had a good mix of meat/veggies in it. The staff here were accommodating - we were running late and cutting it close to when the kitchen closed, but they took our order over the phone and had it ready when we arrived! Unfortunately, I had an upset stomach shortly after eating here. I ate more of the japchae and certain banchan than my partner (who did not have such symptoms). Something may have been wrong with those dishes. Overall, I liked the vibes and the food enough that I would be willing to go back and have the soondubu or other hot/fresh dishes again.

Some days the food is great and some days it is absolutely terrible. I thought it was because they were busy but it was not a busy day at all when we last visited. The food was just bad. Then on another day my mom and I decided to get some food to go and boy were we shocked. The to go container was super tiny compared to other equivalent places. They only gave us 1/3 of the side dishes (not even half), the rice was a different kind of rice (not cooked the same way as dine in), they did not include an egg with the soup, and even the service was bad .. and it was a to go order. How was the food bad? The soup was not flavorful but also VERY salty. It tasted like salt soup. When they tried to fix it they made it worse. It came back with a completely different color broth and even smelled different but not in a good way. It smelled gamey. The meat dishes we ordered were overcooked, dry, and more than half of the meat on the bone was fat - like huge chunks of fat. This last time I think I finally decided to stop giving these guys the benefit of the doubt. Just don't go here. Don't waste your time and money. Spare the disappointment for an umbrellaless rainy day.
After driving by this spot countless times, I finally decided to give it a try. I ordered the galbi combo with spicy cold noodles and mackerel. Everything was delicious, but the Bonchon selection really stood out--each dish was a hit. The kimchi was perfectly balanced, juicy, and full of flavor, while the cold spicy buckwheat noodles were an absolute favorite. The best part? We were served by the most charming grandma, who made the experience even more special. The atmosphere is laid-back and welcoming, making it a great place to relax and enjoy a meal.
I thought Chanmaru was just OK. I'm not sure if it's because my fiancé and I only ordered the soondubu & galbi combo to share, we were just treated a bit coldly (we didn't realize the portions were gonna be quite small for the price). We ended up ordering their 4pc mandu towards the end to feel more full (we didn't want to be too full since we live far and try to make the most of our Carrolton trip by getting desserts in the area). Also, while they do offer a lot of different banchans, they all tasted almost the same/bland. Food wasn't anything memorable. For the same price, I feel like the portion and flavor at BCD is better. The main reason why I wanted to try this place is because of their banchan but Dal Dong Nae, Sura and Seoul Garden offer tastier ones. They weren't busy by any means but no one stopped by to check in on us and when the bill was dropped off, the lady just placed it on the table without saying anything or looking at us. We weren't thanked even when we left. I mean.. I guess we're not obligated to a thank you but don't restaurants usually thank their customers? We weren't rude or needy so to be treated like that made us not want to go back there. 3 stars is on the higher side but it's because others talked highly of this place. And looking at other pictures, it seems they do offer better banchans depending on the day. Just because I didn't like it or had an OK experience, I hope it doesn't deter people from trying it. They do have a lot more items on their menu which I wanted to try but personally, because I know where I can have a more enjoyable Korean food experience I will not be returning.

Chanmaru has become my favorite traditional Korean spot in town. Fairly new and away from the traffic of ktown, at least on my side. The food here is quality. Not overly pricey and good deals on combo sets. But I come here for the galbi tang (short rib soup). It's fantastic, filling and just tastes clean and delicious. But the tofu soups and meats are just as good. Another fave thing about this place are the wide array of sides they give you. Service is fairly quick and I've never seen this place crowded so you'll get attentive service. Vibe is that of a Korean family style restaurant. Highly recommend.

Came here as one of my friends sent me this special that they're running for 5 year anniversary. Didn't even know they've been here this long. It was lunch time and maybe 3 or 4 other tables, so we were quickly seated. The waitress was nice I think, but her tone of voice with her deep accent was very hard to understand. We got the basic bulgogi and wife and son got the galbi, all with soup. Overall, service was quick and efficient, but food taste was just average. The soup was and tofu was good, but it wasn't anything that stands out. Meat and banchan were good, but once again, it just seemed typical. All in all, it's probably 3.5 stars, but I'm giving it 3 as the value wasn't there. Yes, we got the specials which was a few dollars cheaper than their regular price, but the size or portion was all about 25% smaller than other Korean joints. As an eater, I liked my food in quality and quantity. Here, I felt I wasn't satisfied. Our go to is still cho dang village. read more
Chanmaru is pretty average overall for a Korean restaurant, but not in a bad way. I have been here several times and the food is consistently decent for the price, which is really what keeps me coming back once in a while. The tofu soup is fine but nothing special. It tastes similar to most Korean spots in the area and does not really stand out. Where this place is more unique is the number of side dishes. They give you a lot more banchan than most places around Carrollton, which is fun if you like variety. That said, while there is a big selection of side dishes, the quality is kind of mid. Some of the more popular banchan are actually a bit below average compared to other Korean restaurants nearby. It looks impressive on the table but flavor wise it does not fully deliver. It was pretty empty when I went for lunch, but the wood interior aesthetic was nice and made the space feel warm and comfortable. The servers were very nice and patient, which definitely helped the experience. read more

Wish I could give 0 stars, stay far away from this horrible place!! My god I can't even remember the last time I had such a terrible dining experience. From the moment me my hubby and baby walked in we felt cold vibes. The older lady serving us was rude from the beginning, I could tell my hubby was irritated and I asked him 3x if he wanted to leave. We had already drove a distance to get here because I really wanted to try the raw spicy crab. The server KEPT on asking us if we were ready to order and my man didn't know what he wanted, she seemed to be mad that we weren't ready and was rolling her eyes huffing and puffing, MIND you we were the only people in the whole restaurant.......... The server seemed upset in general that we were even dining here and now I wish I went with my first gut instinct to just leave, there are plenty of other restaurants that would love our business. A few other table started to arrive while we were deciding what to order and we both noticed that they were being brought a bunch of appetizers to there table. We were never brought anything............ I had to look on Yelp and see that the banchan was complimentary and asked another server for them. Thats ridiculous, it's like we were being judged the moment we walked in and had we not asked about the appetizers we never would've received them. The food was actually disgusting. Everything from the apps to the main dishes were horrible. The spicy raw crab was ok, however the bulgogi ribs were bad and cold. The soup was cold and gross. And to top it all off we were charged more than what was priced on the menu. The raw crab was supposed to be $29.99 and I was charged $32.99 the other entire was an extra 2 dollars as well. They purposely charged us more. When I asked another server said it was "a combo". I was NOT in the mood to argue with these people so we just took the extra charge out of there tip. We wasted $70 bucks on this trash. I highly recommend nobody come here, read the other reviews, everyone is saying the same thing they have terrible servers! I'm so disappointed, we could've went to chipotle and had better food/service! read more
The five of us had a great lunch here. We were given a table in one of the "private" sections which was perfect for our group. One person ordered the galbitang, which he said was really good. Others ordered the soondubu "tofu" soups, two of them as combo sets. The soups were nicely seasoned and very flavorful. The rice, served in heated stainless bowls, was cooked perfectly. The selections for the combo sets were the sauteed spicy squid and pork galbi. Both were excellent, especially the pork, which had a subtle seasoning but was grilled nicely and very tasty. The banchan variety was the best I've seen in any Korean restaurants in the area. There were traditional cabbage and radish kimchi as well as many others made of fresh vegetables, fishcake, and seaweed. Our table was filled with delicious banchan dishes. The staff was truly impressive. As busy as they were, they did not miss a beat. They checked on us frequently and were friendly and accommodating. Prices were very reasonable and the food quality, as well as the portion sizes, were excellent. The restaurant is located in a newer shopping plaza, largely occupied so far by Korean restaurants and stores, most notably the new Korean grocery store, Fresh K International. The entire plaza is clean, safe, spacious, and has easy convenient parking. read more
Chanmaru is a popular Korean restaurant in the Carrollton area, offering a variety of soft tofu soups and other entrees. I was recommended to try this place out, and I was not disappointed! If you love banchan as much as I do, you will love Chanmaru because they offer the most side dishes I've ever seen at a Korean restaurant. Super tasty and they offer sides I've never tried before. I would come back just for that. Their menu offers entree combos which is great if you want to try a soup + meat dish. I recommend trying their spicy pork/squid, and I love their seafood pancakes to share. When I visited, service was attentive and staff were friendly! read more

Chanmaru has become my favorite restaurant in the area! TONS of delicious, fresh, unlimited side dishes, the main dishes are so flavorful and the portions are huge. We discovered Chanmaru on accident and it was the best accident ever! read more

Great alternative in place of that crazy 99 Ranch and H-Mart area. Dumplings: 4/5 Nice flavor that came out sizzling and would burst in your mouth when you bite into it. Seafood Soontofu: 5/5 Everything about this soup is fantastic. The flavor is strong and robust. Each bite has a wonderful richness that just envelopes you. There were bites of squid in the soup and some clams to enjoy as well. LA Galbi: 4.5/5 Serving was a little smaller than expected but the flavor was on point. The meat was tender and slid right off the bone. Daeji Galbi: 4.5/5 I don't even like pork but this flavor was so addicting. There was a great smokiness that enhances the rich flavor of the pork. The food and atmosphere here is phenomenal. The interior of it is bright and they actually have small closed off areas if you wanted a private place to eat your group. They served hot barley tea that was well appreciated in this cold weather and all the sides were very tasty. read more

This is my favorite Korean restaurant. Service is great and traditional feeling. All the soups are amazing. We ordered the ramen soon tofu, LA kalbi and beef rib soup. It comes with rice and lots and lots of banchan (small side dishes). These are seasonal and are always great. Atmosphere is very positive and inviting. I fully recommend this restaurant. It has the best soon tofu soups in the metroplex. read more

Great dining experience! Starting with the 17 banchan (refillable upon request)! As a Korean, I loved the variety of the banchan! Everything my family and I ordered were sooooo good. Service was good, friendly, and timely (family members had a plane to catch). Will definitely be returning! read more
Please TRY Chanmaru if you enjoy Korean food! Average prices you would pay at a Korean restaurant for great quality food. First time dining in here and it's hidden in a plaza off Hebron Parkway. Service was excellent. Servers were friendly and attentive. I didn't have to ask for napkins! Never happens at a Korean restaurant. Banchan was good with a variety not so typical. Fresh ingredients. We got a kimchi pancake for appetizer which serves like 4 people. Crispy surfaces with soft middle. Dolsot bibimbap was delicious! Fresh season veggies, bulgogi, and rice served in a HOT stone pot. Let it sit before adding gochujang and mixing so the rice can get crispy at the bottom. Mix and inhale by the spoonful. Going to come back to get grilled ribs! read more

SUMMARY: We had a near 5 star experience here. Food was good to excellent, service was on point, and atmosphere was clean and cozy. We even ran into our friend here we haven't seen in 6 month! BACKGROUND: we wanted to try something new in this bustling plaza and a friend raved about this place. FOOD: we are fans! The soon dubu is pretty good here and they have a lot of other traditional Korean favorites as well. While I've had their yukkehjang, it's definitely not as good as their soondubu. The amazing variety of Banchan is a big plus too. My wife and I had the pig intestine soon dubu and it was tasty. I swear these Taiwanese wimmin luuuv their intestine! :) SERVICE: Their wait staff is very friendly. The younger taller gentleman is particularly professional and kind. Reasonably quick with the food. ATMOSPHERE: somewhat loud, busy, but clean as is the men's bathroom. RETURN VISIT? Chanmaru is now in our rotation of go-to Korean restaurants! read more
This is one of those hidden gems in a up-and-coming (struggling?) complex, away from the busyness of old denton road. The good: - Banchan (aka the sides): Delicious, large selection of sides - Tofu soup: Get your beef, mixed, whatever suits your fancy for ~12.99. FULL of tofu and ingredients inside. They definitely don't skimp on anything here Have been back twice and each time the service is solid, it's never too crowded, and the food is delicious. They have a fairly large menu that I'd like to try with others as well (raw spicy marinated crab anyone?) There is almost always parking and is way less intense than BCD brethren. read more
New Korean venue that wont close on Wednesdays. Seafood and clam stew were very good. Broth was fantastic. 1. Service 4.5/5 Everybody was attentive and available to refill side dishes when we did not realize to ask yet. It seems to be soft opening since not all the menu items were available. 2. Food 4/5 I ordered Gopchang tofu stew and soup was definitely rich however gopchang taste was too strong for me personally. They were in good portion, good spicy level (no spicy level to choose though), and had lots of combo options. I tried my friend's seafood tofu stew and that was my favorite so far. I will give it a try next time for sure 3. Atmosphere 4.5/5 tables available to put together for large groups. Clean and quiet vibe when we came for lunch around 12:30pm. This place just opened in the new galleria mart plaza and we've passed it a few times, finally decided to give it a try and I'm so glad we did, the food is DELICIOUS. We got the grilled pork and spicy squid + soon tofu combo, everything tasted amazing. The service is also top notch since they checked on us frequently and made sure we had everything we needed. I accidentally dropped an utensil and they immediately came back with a new one. We'll definitely be back! read more

I saw recommendations for this place on another website so we decided to go on a Saturday night. The place was not too busy. Clean and bright inside. Servers were all korean folks like your uncles and aunts. The menu was not too overwhelming and we ordered the cold spicy noodles, LA Galbi, Galbitang and fried rice. During my visit, I got the Meat soontofu. The soup had a wonderful spice to it. The meat within the soup was slender cuts of beef that were also delicious. The tofu was leaning more towards being soft which was easy to eat. All the soontofus come with a container of rice. The bottom of the rice was crispy which added an additional texture to my dish. The meal was also accompanied by several small dishes of appetizers that ranged from bean sprouts to kimchi. They have a large variety of side dishes. The restaurant was clean and had a very family friendly vibe as the staff were kind and attentive to every customer. Overall, I loved the soontofu and am excited to come back to try their combos that includes one of their entrees and a soontofu of your choice. read more
This is one of the newer soontofu places in Carrollton and it does not disappoint. I would go there over and over again just for the banchan. If you order a good amount of food, usually happens if you're with family, then you'd receive a very plentiful and variety of banchan. There has to be something that you'll end up liking. Their actually soontofu is great too; very tasteful and doesn't lack content. Their seafood pancake is very enjoyable and huge too. read more

This place is great and affordable price for great authentic Korean food. I was craving spicy marinated crab and I left very satisfied. The staff is very friendly and the service is quick. It's usually not that busy. read more

I've visited Chanmaru several times since I live nearby, and I've always enjoyed their food. I'm moving away from Dallas soon and had to stop in one last time! An obvious highlight of dining at Chanmaru is the extensive banchan spread. All of the sides are very fresh and tasty, especially the kimchi. The menu also features a wide array of classic Korean dishes as well as several variants of soondubu, so it's certain there will be something for everyone. The soondubu always is bubbling and warms you up with both its spice and temperature. The kimchi pancake is also very crispy and flavorful. Every time I eat here, the servers have been very kind and attentive and willing to make small talk, too. The vibes here are very mom-and-pop, so it's easy to feel at home while enjoying your food. I strongly recommend popping into Chanmaru the next time you want really good Korean food, especially soondubu, in a cozy and friendly setting! read more
