I came in with the goal of having a workout on my schedule. In my mind, I didn't need a trainer, I…read moreneeded to get back in the gym and START. This gym had all I would need, was close to work, and merely having paid appointments would get my butt in the door for much needed self care. Kirk Cortez seemed like a nice guy, all was good. I signed up. Kirk turned out to be so much more than a nice guy. I came in to him broken from 3 years of health issues that included 3 big surgeries, and treatments and infections in between. I hadn't worked out in 4 years (and really hadn't pursued PT and other therapies to help, as I had lost so much time at work). I was incredibly fatigued, and knew that it would only get worse if I didn't start really moving my carcass ;) SO, I was in a poor state of fitness, and had areas that were frozen, tender, etc. I was nervous, and my past experience with trainers led me to believe I would be fighting him quite a lot while he tried to push me hard. He was the OPPOSITE. Kirk focused on many things, and the least of it was getting me jacked. One of his primary goals to assist in my healing and recovery was BLOOD FLOW. He talked to me about why and how much that would help. He was right. He checked in on me constantly, not just counting reps - but adjusting form and asking how it felt. There were some things that were a real challenge - that I would have thought of as silly, or not believed, just a year or two ago. He was the first to say that the worst thing for progress was to push too hard at this point. He pointed out that if I stretched something too much so that the next days things would be painful or pulling back, we would lose momentum, and muscles will actually tighten up on their own to act protective. He also didnt want me to be in pain so much that I would fear or dread coming in, as the progress in my mind was critical as well. There were times I was gassed, and there were other times that I wanted to push harder. Kirk applied wisdom in both cases - dropping weights or going to the floor and keeping me going when I was tired, and holding me to his plan when I was fired up and wanted to do too much. I left feeling great EVERY D@MN DAY I trained. There is nothing like having a crap day at work and then knocking out a training session, getting sweaty, and feeling AMAZING after. Take that, bad day! Throughout our workouts, we talked a lot about being banged up, the surprise of what we lose and how we change when injured - and not just physically. He understood how one area could have impact upon your whole body, and could damage your mood and outlook. He has had his share of injuries, which was INCREDIBLY relevant in my situation. Not only did I feel safe - as it was evident that he knew what he should and should not have me perform, but there was incredible relief not having to explain, argue, and feel that I was making excuses. I felt understood. There is a lot of tension released from that - who knew! He was always upbeat, we could talk work stuff, food, or anything else that made for an entertaining story. I highly recommend training with Kirk! Be sure to check out his competition pics. ;) Glory Days!

They don't just check you in and move on; they welcome you in a way that makes you feel seen, supported, and capable. OrangeTheory isn't just a workout class; it's a reminder that fitness can be joyful. And the staff are the reason that reminder sticks. They transform the entire experience into something positive, motivating, and honestly addictive in the best way. I leave every class feeling proud of myself -- and excited to come back.

My friend, who had a membership, signed me up with her guest pass. When we got there, they asked for $25 for the guest session - this came as a surprise as we had called earlier to ensure it was a trial run - I had asked if we could waive this as they didn't state this earlier before signup. They refused and demanded payment (really what's $25 to corporate? Horrible management, that left a bad taste at the start). We paid it grudgingly and went through with the class. Maybe it was the class I took that specific evening but literally all I did was run on a treadmill for 50 minutes, definitely not worth the $25... then a few minutes before class ended the front desk lady came to pressure me into signing up for a membership. I had politely declined yet she kept aggressively pushing and just turned away abruptly after she realized I wouldn't budge. Honestly I thought the group atmosphere was inspirational and the coach was fine but their sales/front desk girls were rude and condescending. I might have considered joining at another time, but after this experience, never at this location.

First of all, the guest system is very nice. I usually don't go on my own but I will tag along with my husband. We have used the membership at different locations without any problems between LA and SD. This place has plenty of treadmill and elliptical machines. They also have the stair machine, which I don't see at all PF locations. There are at least two of each targeted workout machines, which is really great. Just a quick background about me. I grew up not knowing how to exercise, my parents discouraged sports because "I was a girl" and more likely because we were poor. I was very skinny in my teen years but I was also unhealthy with an eating disorder. I am now far from skinny but healthy since having children. I have a normal BMI but definitely don't look THAT fit because I still have trouble exercising regularly. I won't pretend that I don't have self image issues anymore, but I feel comfortable coming to PF. I have seen the senior crowd come here to exercise and I think that's wonderful. Thank you for offering an affordable gym membership with a robust selection of exercise equipment. I also dig the "no judgement" policy!
