    New pump installed.

Needed a failed sump pump replaced (it was over 10 years old). Setup the appointment and the crew of 2 arrived on time. They got right on the task and quickly removed the failed unit and swapped in the new pump. Fast, efficient, and thorough. Thanks for the completed service!

We were dealing with a flood issue in our Novato backyard. Every time there was a storm, water would breach our ADU. We wanted a French drain system so we contacted Armando for a quote. He came the next day, took a look at our large backyard and knew right away what to recommend. There was no where for the storm water to go so he suggested a sump pump to discharge the water out to the street. The quote was reasonable so we went for it. His crew was fast, clean, and efficient. A fairly large project, they completed it in two days. He even helped us out with the electrical work for the sump pump. After these last storms, our backyard is dry as a bone, no more worries about our yard. We highly recommend Chan Drainage. Gracias Armando

Awhile back a friend asked me to find someone to improve the sump pump setup in his building. The existing setup was quite nice; the hole ("sump") was big, and he had a second backup pump resting on some pavers in the hole, so that if the primary failed or was overwhelmed the backup would kick in. The one weakness: both pumps depended on grid electricity, PG&E. He had a gasoline-powered generator, but that introduced a whole new set of issues; the right solution seemed to be a DC-powered backup with a trickle-charge low maintenance battery. I contacted a company that seemed to specialize in this type work, but was stunned by the price quote. I shopped around, talking to two plumbing supply companies, looking for a strong recommendation. No luck. I spoke with a plumber who had done great work for me in the past; he didn't want to work in that hole. Finally I called ChanDrainage. I wasn't convinced that this was the right company (they seemed to do basement waterproofing), but Armando Chan agreed to come by when he was in the area, and quote the work. Anyone can quote a job, but by this time I knew just enough about sump pumps to weed-out the flakes. Armando was the real thing. I was interested in replacing my backup AC with a DC, supported by two batteries, giving me twice the running duration. Armando heard me, and offered a variation on that idea. He quoted me a price that definitely worked. He said that he was pretty busy, but might be able to slip me into the schedule. I crossed my fingers! A week or so later Armando texted and asked his crew could do the install on Wednesday. Of course! His crew showed up, just as expected. Armando had come-up with pretty clean solution. Instead of retiring one of my ACs, he would put a backup on each of them, elevating each pair so that my pumps triggered one after the other. Ismael, Carlos and Luis got to work; it was nice to work with a crew that clearly knew what they were doing. I'm realizing that this is a long review, and most of it is about nuances of the task. I guess my point is that I'm smart-enough to recognize a great sump pump design and installation team, and I highly recommend Armando and his crew.

The job was to install a channel drain. Our existing 5" square drain could not handle the heavy rain we've been getting. Plus it didn't take long for leaves to clog it, resulting in water flooding into our garage. Crew showed up around 8:30 am and finished around 2:30pm. They were hard at work, friendly, and clean up after. Armando came by at the beginning of the job to tell us what they are going to do step by step and thank us for choosing his company. Being thankful is much appreciated. :-).

My wife and I are so fortunate to find Armando and his wonderfully hard working team. Armando was very informative and knowledgeable in what is needed to create a vapor barrier in our crawl space. He was also able to address the support posts. I can't imagine spending a few minutes in a crawl space. His team arrived to work promptly every day for hours creating french drains, installing a barrier and sump pump. They also trenched outward. When all was done the job site was immaculately clean. Thank you so much Armando and his team!

The details: I called Martin after a clog removal by another company went sideways (probably the topic of a no star review in the future). The first company identified where the problem was, but also caused a spill of sewage inside the house, then quoted me $5k to dig up the pipe and really fix the problem. To no one's surprise, I wasn't happy. So I called AHJ for a second opinion, and Martin answered the call. He spent a good 20 minutes on the phone, asking me detailed questions about the problem, and explaining my options (the other company did none of that). He made no guarantees, but said he thought he could solve the problem, so I asked him to have a look. He was at my house within 3 hours. The line had two objects stuck inside, causing backups. Martin worked to jet out one of the objects out, then used a camera to inspect the entire 80 ft. length of the pipe. The second object was still there, though, and it looked like digging was the only option. However, this is where the real magic happened! The second object was about 12 ft from the clean out, and it was not budging. Martin, however, thinks outside the box. He got out a large shop vac and stuffed the hose down the line. With the help of his camera he aligned the end of the hose with the obstruction and started up the vacuum. It took a while and was not easy work, but Martin eventually pulled out a 8" long, 2 lb. solid steel spring! That's no exaggeration (How that got in there I'll never know). It was Amazing! He also documented everything with his camera and thoroughly explained everything that we could see. So, I now know all about the good, and the bad, of my main sewer line, should any future problem arise. Thank you, Martin, for the exceptional service!

BEWARE! BeastBay almost blew my house up!…read more Another thing to note, if you are considering doing business with them, is that they have an F rating with the Better Business Bureau due to 2 other complaints they did not respond to. I had used BeastBay Plumbing once before when we had a drain problem. They were responsive, and the tech was friendly and informative. He fixed the problem, and we signed up for their loyalty program. I knew our water heater was nearing the end of its lifespan, and I called them to get a quote. Sydney came out and explained the options. I ended up going for the tankless water heater. I also got quotes to replace a kitchen faucet and install a new shower fixture. The techs who showed up were courteous, but they arrived a couple of hours later than I had expected. I anticipated the faucet and shower fixture jobs to go fairly quickly, but they took almost two hours. Then they started work on the water heater. What Sydney hadn't discussed was the need for direct power to the tankless system or a new vent. The tech wanted to open the ceiling up, but as it's a two-story house with a tile roof, that was a hard no. They ended up doing a vent through the side of the house. At first, they said it would be a two-day job, which wasn't mentioned when I booked, but after getting the side vent in, they said they'd finish that day. Here is where things go very, very badly. The next day, I went into the garage to move a car. I was overwhelmed by the smell of gas. I called BeastBay, and the phone center told me to call 911, which I did. In the meantime, I opened the garage door. I realized after I hit the button that, should anything spark, the whole place could go up. Thankfully, it didn't. The fire department came out, pinpointed that BeatBay had not tightened the gas connection to the tankless unit and turned it off. Then began a 2+ hour marathon of calls to BeastBay to get someone out immediately. Except they didn't. I had to call the office 4 times and then had 3 separate conversations with them. In the meantime, Sydney came back out to see what was up. I explained the severity of the gas leak and told him I wasn't happy he hadn't mentioned needing direct power or the need to re-vent from the previous water heater. Sydney indicated there would be a small rebate, and they would service the unit going forward free of charge. The tech showed up, apologized for not securing the gas line, tightened it up, and left. This was a week and a half ago. I heard nothing more from BeastBay. I called the office on Wednesday and asked that they memorialize what Sydney had said during our meeting in writing. The woman who answered, Sarah?, said she'd have to check with Sydney, in a tone that said she didn't believe he had offered anything. She came back and said that was correct, and she'd send it over by email. Nothing was forthcoming. I've called the office twice today, twice no one answered, and the third time it went to a general voicemail. I received a phone call 2 + weeks after the incident. The woman I spoke to apologized, but assumed everything was fine. I explained how VERY unhappy I was with both the work they did and their lack of responsiveness. She said she would talk to the owner and get back to me yesterday or today. No call. AVOID. AVOID. AVOID. To say I'm disappointed in the service is an understatement. This is a massive failure on every front.
