This is a long story, so I'll start with the punchline. Dave at 13 and Crooks went above and…read morebeyond what a normal business owner would do to help us get our car fixed. Here's the story: I am a Michigan native living in Columbus, Ohio. I was traveling through Michigan to visit family and felt my car shaking, so I exited the highway and ended up near 13 and Crooks late on a Saturday night. The owner, Dave, was about to leave for the evening but took a look at my car, diagnosed it with a bad wheel bearing on the front driver's side, but could not get the part until Monday morning. We left the car, found other transportation, returned home, and I drove back later in the week to pick up the car after it was fixed. I drove the car for another month or so and it was fine, and I thought that was the end of the story. Skip forward a few weeks, and we were once again traveling through Michigan, this time up north - to Black Lake near Cheboygan. We made the trip up there (7 hours from home) with no problems, but took a short day trip to the U.P. and the car started shaking again. This occurred the day before we were supposed to head home, and we needed to be back in Columbus on Sunday for a variety of reasons - one of which was that my wife was flying to California for business on Sunday afternoon. I took the car to Main Street Automotive in Cheboygan, where the owner there - Paul - immediately diagnosed a wheel bearing problem on the same wheel (front driver's side). I called Dave at 13 and Crooks, who agreed to pay for the repair with no arguments. However, it turned out that somehow during the original repair, the threads on the axle became stripped, and the nut that holds the bearing and wheel in place wasn't holding. In other words, the new wheel bearing was fine, but the axle was damaged. It is unusual for this part to fail, so literally no parts dealers - not even dealerships - in the State of Michigan or any adjoining states, carried this part in stock and it had to be ordered. This meant we couldn't get the car repaired until Tuesday the following week (this was now a Saturday morning when we were finding out this information). If that was the case, we would have had to rent a car and drive home, and then make the 14 hour round trip to pick up the vehicle after it was fixed. However - somehow Dave at 13 and Crooks tracked down the only part in the State of Michigan (a refurbished one) at Detroit Wheel and Axle, purchased it, and arranged to have the part driven up to Cheboygan - a 4 hour trip one way. It arrived at 4:30 pm that Saturday, the fantastic gentlemen at Main Street Automotive - who kept their shop open for us - made the repair, and we made it home early Sunday morning. Dave paid for the repair, again without hesitation. Considering the circumstances, this repair was as painless as could be expected. Can't thank Dave at 13 and Crooks - and the guys at Main Street Automotive - enough for their help and professionalism. If I lived in Royal Oak - I'd have found my go-to auto repair shop for certain.

I did a lot of research about Nash before choosing them to do a complete pre-purchase inspection of a used Lexus. While the BBB'S "A+" rating is a good thing, I know from experience that there are many "A+" businesses that have had complaints filed with the BBB. What impressed me is that the business has been on file with the BBB for many years and that there have been NO COMPLAINTS on record against Nash's Auto. This, plus very favorable reviews here on Yelp and on Google led me to choose this company. While other shops could not get us in right away for the prepurchase inspection, Kyle had us in and out the next morning. The evaluation was very comprehensive in the inspection. I was impressed with how thorough they were in checking over everything needed to convince us that the car was truely as good as we hoped it was. I would recommend Nash's Auto based on this experience and would gladly use them again when there is the opportunity to do so.

On top of that, Devon took pictures during the work to show me how clean and neat everything was. I highly recommend this place to anyone who wants quality work done.

Mark and the TLC mechanics were able to identify the problem and source parts within a few hours of drop off, and I was back on the road the next day. When it comes to price - I did my due diligence and called around to see what a similar repair would cost elsewhere. TLC came in 35% lower than the dealership. I'm very happy with the service and will be returning to TLC for future car repairs.

A straightforward question about arranging service turned into an unnecessarily confrontational and combative interaction on more than one occasion. I later contacted the owner to address my concerns. His response focused on the timing of the vehicle's arrival and the impact on the technicians, as well as the possibility that there had been a misunderstanding regarding the towing company's guidelines, which was not the case. My concerns about the way I was treated during the interaction were never addressed, nor was my subsequent follow-up acknowledged at all. Since that interaction, I have received two additional messages in less than 24 hours regarding pickup of my vehicle, both requesting a callback. This level of repeated contact was not part of my prior interactions with the shop and was completely unnecessary. One call providing the repair information, estimated cost, and pickup details should have been sufficient. Good automotive service isn't just about completing the repair. Customers should also be treated with courtesy and professionalism. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this business. If you value courtesy, professionalism, respect and restraint, then choose another shop.

My journey at Skips Auto repair started 20 years ago when I worked across the street. Even though I…read moreno longer work in the area, I still only go to Skip's passing up repair shops along the way including those shops that AAA encourages me to tow my vehicle too in which I'll receive a 15% discount. However, for myself, loyalty goes a long way when you're comfortable and have trust. Skips has always delivered with a fair price, professional service, high standards, and the integrity of finding out the root cause of the issue. I feel I've never been up sold or been steered into additional repairs/expenses, and they don't use scare tactics that make you feel you need to do repairs immediately that may not be needed yet. Instead, they only inform you of what they see that may result in future issues or in need of repair/replacement in the near future. So, with each visit, I feel I'm only paying for what is necessary to get my vehicle in a drivable condition, typically resolving the issue I took it in for. I've never walked away from Skip's feeling I broke the bank or spent more that I needed too. Even though I've been going for 20yrs, this is my first review. I just need to commend the team at Skips for the patience they had with my 3yr old truck in diagnosing a sporadic non-starting issue. This issue was not an easy one to trace or identify, it did not show up with a scan, nor did the issue occur enough allowing a technician to easily duplicate the issue for proper diagnoses. After dealing with this issue for a few months, I just concluded that the only way to rectify this issue is to leave it with Skips until the non-starting issue occurs for them. What I appreciate here is the patience and space of allowing my vehicle to stay with them for over a week. They spent the time not only starting the vehicle several times each day, but driving it around, parking and unparking, just waiting for the issue to occur for them. Again, this was a 3yr old truck with 38K millage, just out of warranty. To most and even I considered it, would be to take it back to the dealer for review. However, in my mind I felt I would not get the attention needed to properly diagnose this issue with a dealer, would they spend over a week starting my truck several times a day and allow it to remain on their lot for over a week. I feel the fee for this attention would be astronomical with a dealer and that I would have received a call after 2-3 days to come and pick up my vehicle as their not seeing an issue with it. Granted the dealer presupposition is just an assumption. However, my overall point is, I knew based on my previous experience with Skip's that they were the one shop that I knew would truly work with me through this issue and not leave me stranded or unsatisfied. I'm truly appreciative for this auto repair shop in my life, as it's obvious to me their driven by providing customer satisfaction and not necessarily dollar signs. I've been loyal to Skip's for 20yrs and will remain loyal until Skip's or I is no longer around, LOL.
