Normally during the winter season. I walked in through their back door in which the window was steeled bar LOL. The girls we're friendly from the get-go! Either they worked for the family or just seasonal people working through the winter. Very hospitable and friendly upon first interaction. Organized with their products just like a local corner gas station should, though its in the middle of nowhere on Route 22! The restroom was clean and pleasant with a bit of rural northeastern decor. They also have a little sandwich shop which are made by order with local Vermot cheeses if you like. Now they do have only i gas pump which is fine for rural town. The lighting around the around could need some work at there is only one light below the huge Gulf sign shining above. I would rate them 4 star's but instead will add an honorery 1 star just cause...

During this visit, I noticed the Chester Chicken restaurant inside the store. The food display was visually appealing, and the aroma of freshly prepared fried chicken was especially inviting. As my order was being prepared, I browsed the store and purchased a couple of Celsius beverages and a bag of Cheetos. The chicken biscuit was freshly made and provided a satisfying, flavorful meal that was just enough to curb my hunger. Overall, it was a pleasant and convenient stop during my trip.

I don't understand how this doesn't have thousands of positive reviews. What if I told you that between Boston and Middlebury, VT you can find a gas station with delicious sandwiches? I told my wife that, and she had 0 interest in trying them. But then she did, and immediately her mind changed. We stop on the way up and back on any trip to Vermont. It's 2 hours from Boston, and about an hour and a half from Middlebury, so it's the perfect spot for an off-highway meal. Any trip to Vermont isn't complete without at least one of these sandwiches - and if we have to skip, it's always with the promise that next time we will make sure to stop. I'm not going to say that these sandwiches are the best in the world. They're not made with impeccable ingredients, locally-sourced from farmers who care. No, what these sandwiches are are middle-of-the-country, happened-up, secret-back-deli sandwiches that will fill you quickly and happily. You're going to order your sandwich from someone who may be slightly annoyed that you're bothering them into making you a sandwich, but don't take that as a negative - they're still going to make you the same delicious sandwich every single time, without variance. You're going to be hesitant, but that's okay. Live a little and eat a gas station sandwich.

Our car got stuck a few streets away and we had to wait a long time for a tow truck to come. The…read moreowner of this gas station was incredibly gracious. We could get phone service in the area, so the gas station order let us use his phone many times over the next several hours, as we waited forever AAA to come tow us out (AAA mistakenly first sent the tow truck to NH instead of VT). We felt vulnerable since we're 2 moms, traveling with young kids, stranded out of state, so we were especially grateful for this generous gas station owner's kindness. He kept the station open 2 hours longer than regular hours, so that we could wait in a safe place with access to a phone. The station's mini-mart had a good selection of reasonably priced snacks and drinks and delicious soft serve ice cream.
