The vibe is so chill and there are a couple of tables outside to relax and eat. We did have our large service dog with us but kept him outside based on someone's previous post. Housed in an old home in the downtown area, this family-owned deli is a community anchor in this quaint Vermont town. We had breakfast here twice and noted the steady stream of regulars who came for carryout boxes of donuts and bags of freshly made bagels. The star here are their bagels which come in a variety of both sweet and savory flavors. We recommend the bagel and lox with a smear as well as the omelets and bagel choices. We also couldn't resist their buttermilk pancakes which are served with a generous dollop of locally sourced butter and, of course, Vermont maple syrup (why anyone uses fake mapole syrup is beyond me...) Nicely crafted baked goods and fry entrees make this a must-try stop when cruising through New England.

We rarely had to leave the house and grounds other than to go to dinner. But a few days in, my gal seemed to get a cold. After work we checked where to go nearby for some cough drops, and since we had wanted to see the general store anyhow, we buzzed over there. As we walked in, I was impressed immediately at the authenticity of the place. It was a little too nice as we walked in. By that I mean its has excellent upkeep so many part of the place were much nicer than you might think of a older, classic store. The combination of a old general store with plenty of love put into it to keep it attractive was great. We were there far longer than a quick pop in that we planned. In fact we saw the cool kitchen they had set up, and we got a couple hot sandwiches to go. Great call. We got some snacks, some cough drops, and some very good sandwiches. We didn't know when we planned this trip that it was going to lead to wanted to be back very soon. and one of the small reasons, is the Original General Store.
