I called Champion Plumbing & Drains on a Sunday for an emergency visit for an actively leaking water heater at a tenant occupied rental property. At the initial visit, the technician/owner diagnosed the tank as rusted and leaking from the bottom and said it needed to be replaced. Champion quoted me $3,250 for the replacement and scheduled it for Tuesday. At the emergency visit, the gas to the heater was shut off, but the water supply to the leaking tank was not isolated. The heater kept dripping and wetting the carpet outside the closet. I called the owner, Gus, because I was trying to understand why the water had not also been shut off and how my tenants were supposed to safely use the plumbing while waiting for the replacement. My tone during that call was information collecting, not accusatory. I was trying to understand what had been done, why the tank was still leaking, and how to minimize additional damage. Gus became defensive and told me, "I never told you I turned the water off." I was not blaming him. I was asking a pretty basic question about an active leak. It was Labor Day weekend and during that call it sounded like he was at some type of social event and did not really want to be bothered. I understand it was a holiday weekend, but I had paid $200 for an emergency visit and was dealing with an active leak at a rental property less than 24 hr after the visit. At the end of the call he abruptly hung up, and right before it disconnected I heard him say, "fucking people." The replacement was still scheduled for Tuesday. He knew I had three tenants in the property and that they effectively could not use the water at all because running water was making the leak worse. Tuesday came and the scheduled arrival time passed with no one showing up and no communication. I reached out asking for an ETA. Only then was I told they were fully booked and had to "pass on the opportunity." No rescheduled time was offered. When I later followed up with Gus through Yelp asking why they no showed and why he could not even give me another appointment time, his response was, "that's on you my man I don't deal with rude people." I completely disagree with that characterization. My tone had been focused on gathering information about the leak and how to manage it safely, not accusing him or his company of anything. If he decided after our phone call that he did not want the job, that is fine, but the professional thing to do would have been to tell me before the scheduled appointment. Instead, they just did not show up and I had to reach out after the appointment time had already passed. To their credit, they did refund the $200 emergency service fee. I had to find another company to do the replacement. Unfortunately they could not do it until Friday, so my three tenants were left without usable water for several more days. That company also only charged about $2,600 for the replacement compared with Champion's $3,250 quote. After all of this I went back and read the negative reviews more closely and wish I had done that first. There are multiple reviews describing similar experiences with the owner becoming defensive or offended when customers ask questions or raise concerns. After my own experience, those reviews made a lot more sense. They did correctly diagnose the failed water heater and they refunded the emergency fee, but the way everything was handled after that was unacceptable. Scheduling an urgent replacement, not showing up, not giving any advance notice, knowing three tenants were without water, then telling me "that's on you my man I don't deal with rude people" because I asked questions about an active leak is not how I would expect a professional company to operate. I would not use them again. read more

Replaced toilet inlet valve. Arrived on time. Quickly completed the work. Everything looks and works fine. Was courteous. Fair price. No complaints. read more

Gus, the owner, is a good guy. I requested a plumber as my downstairs toilet was leaking and backing up into the shower. He immediately knew the problem was that the main sewer line needed to be snaked, and he sent someone out. That technician claimed he could not find parking and left. I reached out to Gus, who apologized and personally came out to take care of the problem. This is excellent customer service. What could have been a bad situation and review turned into a positive experience. But the initial technician needs a talking to. The price was high, but given the urgent nature and the fact that it was resolved the same day, it was worth it. read more

We had a leak at our main water shutoff. Gus came out within a day and did a thorough evaluation of our recently purchased home and helped us decide what to prioritize. We did a hot water tank reinstall and replaced the leaking area of pipe. Gus and Fedo were efficient and communicative. With old pipes, we found a new leak after the first repair and they were again fast and easy to work with to come out and replace old piping in our home. Pricing seemed very fair for the quality work that they did! read more

Had our kitchen faucet drain pipe leak from the old corroded copper pipe-PVC junction not having the tight seal. Called many plumbers but no one could promise they would be able to come on a very cold Saturday morning but Champion did. They were prompt, came within 2 hours, fixed the problem in under 2 hours. Owner was very responsive, respectful, knowledgeable and professional. Repair was expensive but we are glad they could get it fixed on the weekend rather than us having to take off work on weekdays. Thank you Champion staff. read more

I reached out about a new water heater, was given a quote (which was competitive), and got serviced all within a couple days at my DC rowhome. The install was great and the old water heater hauled away. I would highly recommend! read more

I reached out on Yelp for a shower fixture to be replaced and Gus responded very promptly. He knew what the issue was even before coming onsite. Once we confirmed the service date he ordered the parts as they were not something he had stocked. He communicated with me the entire time on timeline and delay as the part didn't arrive as expected. Gus arrived as he said he would and walked me through the issue. He and his helper were quick to fix the issues. Once they left we found that the hot and cold were backwards. I reached out to Gus and he apologized and scheduled a time to return. He came back as he said he would and fixed the issue. Overall I was pleased with the service and the knowledge of Champion plumbing. I took a star away for the mistake, but his response was as expected and I was pleased overall. I would recommend Champion. read more

Amazing! Quick, professional, great value. Couldn't have gone easier. We will call Champion for all big and small projects in the future.

Service was prompt. The technician, Fedo. was polite and competent and my admittedly simple problem was dealt with very quickly.

I needed my 50-gallon hot water and 2 pressure valves replaced. Champion provided a flat rate to replace the hot-water heater. The rate quoted was 1K-2K, less than other estimates I received. Gus was on time, polite, honest, and explained the process. If I need plumbing services in the future I will call Champion. read more

Gus was terrific! Excellent communication and top quality work. We had a complicated timing situation involving coordinating an intake valve repair and replacement of our old, failing dishwasher. Our longtime trusted plumber had recently retired and we were scrambling. After a false start with another company, we found our way to Gus. We will definitely be calling on him in the future. Highly recommended! read more

After a "friend" installed our garbage disposal three years ago, I have been having issues with the kitchen plumbing backing up ever since. Multiple plumbing services have come snaked the drain without clueing me in to the real problem- the garbage disposal was lower than the pipes. After being quoted $2000 by another company to properly plumb the kitchen sink and garbage disposal, I contacted Champion Plumbing and Drains. Fedo came out the next day and let me know the job would be more like $800-1000, due to the location of the pipe (behind the dishwasher). I agreed because I could certainly understand it was a complicated job (and still way less than the first quote I received). This was a tough job from start to finish! Fedo was willing to call another guy out to assist in moving the dishwasher out, without having to remove the countertop- this saved me more money and was greatly appreciated! It took 4-5 hours to complete the whole job, but I am so glad to finally have my kitchen properly plumbed! Everything is working well now and their work is guaranteed for three years. I'm so glad I chose this company; they do a great job! read more

We had an emergency at work, and needed a plumber stat. I called about a dozen other plumbers and struggled to find one willing to respond quickly. I called Champion plumbing and explained my situation. The gentleman on the phone said send me an address! They showed up at the site promptly (within the hour) and saved the day for us and our customer. The following day the work was completed and the site looked as if there was never a problem. Good pricing, good customer service, and an all-around great experience. read more

Needed a water expansion tank replacement and a t&p valve replacement due to a small, but accumulating over weeks, water coming out of the relief valve of the water heater, onto the drain pan. The tech came and also found that my main's water pressure was too high and tightened that valve for me free of charge. He also sealed a condensate line that was loose and dripping condensate onto the garage's floor, for free. He was quick, friendly, and answered my questions on maintenance Was able to get an appointment for the next day after I called. The price was fair as well. read more

Wow! These are my go-to plumbers because they are so responsive and go the extra mile to help you out. I called Gus on a Sunday evening when I discovered my water heater was leaking all over my basement floor. Gus walked me through how to turn off the gas and water to my water heater and how to stop it from leaking. He saved me from spending an emergency service fee, and then had one of his plumbers here first thing the next morning. They diagnosed the issue right away. I'm super impressed. Gus has been super communicative and he's very friendly. read more

These folks are champions of customer service as well as plumbing. They responded quickly, assessed the problem right away (steering me away from my theory that it would be a much more expensive job) and repaired the leaking pipe inside my basement wall right away. At a very fair price. It's hard to feel great about a flooded basement, but this part of the job was the silver lining to our cloud. read more

Yesterday evening I was having an issue with my toilets and reached out. Gus answered right away and informed me that they could either come out that night for an emergency fee or the next day. Due to the situation I opted to pay the emergency fee. Gus actually called me back and asked me to send videos and stayed on the phone with me for 15 minutes asking me to try different things to fix the issue. In the end, the issue was resolved and he didn't end up needing to come out to the house. I appreciate his kindness and professionalism and will hire him for all future plumbing issues. read more

I had an excellent experience with Champion Plumbing and Drains. They responded incredibly quickly and it was even on a Sunday. Gus was very nice and helpful, we had a clogged toilet and he arrived within an hour. The job only took him a couple minutes and he was very professional. We discovered our sewer line was backed up in the late morning on a Sunday, we were fortunate to find Gus and crew later that same day and they arrived at 6pm (on Sunday) and worked for 2 hours to snake the line and allow us to use our water again. They ran a camera and patiently showed us the results, and we had them back out a couple of days later to "chain knock" and flush the line. They were careful and respectful with our interior spaces, they had to pull a toilet twice to do the work and everything was spotless after they left. They are a small mom and pop shop, not owned by some big corporation or private equity firm like "the guy on the truck". Definitely recommend. read more

Such amazing customer service! The company was shut down due to weather, but Gus took the time to walk me through the problem and ultimately we were able to get it diagnosed and fixed. Had them come to replace the wax seal on my toilet. Service was prompt, but the toilet still leaked. They came back and tried again, but the fix did not work.
