Over all I am very pleased with my experience getting a hot water heater replacement. They had me take a couple of photographs of my old heater and, within minutes, responded with an estimate. They were able to schedule me for the next day after I called. The tech showed up on time and worked diligently and professionally to complete the replacement in about 3 hours. So far the system is working flawlessly. The invoice exactly matched the estimate. The only minor negative was at the end, when I asked some maintenance questions, the response was "read the book". This company must be losing business. From their front office phone lady to the mechanic, they are all about charging you as much as possible. I needed to fix the spigot. Instead of examining the spigot, the plumber measures the drywall to tear up to replace the spigot. He said it will take hours to fix this. I asked him to examine the spigot before tearing anything. The plumber checks and tightens the handle. Voila, spigot is not leaking at all and working fine. He still charges me $175 having spent 15 min at the house. I asked if they have a flat visit fee and of course he insists on me paying for a repair that never took place. I wrote them an email to complain about this and the customer service lady write a nasty email about how sorry she is that I was so confused. Will NEVER use this company again. read more

The co-owner, Billy Silk, came to my house to give me an estimate for a new boiler and was incredibly rude. When he said I would need a boiler with a pump, I asked if the pumps made noise; he said, "I've been doing this for 40 years and never gotten any complaints, but I can tell I'll get some from you." He sent me a rough estimate and recommended model on a Thursday, and when I sent an email to ask questions about his recommendations, he replied on Monday that they had suddenly become too busy to do the work. Rude and disrespectful. I'm glad I got to see what kind of business they are before entering into a contract. read more

I contacted the MASTER PLUMBING company today to schedule service (10/10/16). I was told a little bit of a different story and this caused me to move forward with this review. I originally spoke with someone in their office on July 8 and the conversation was much more helpful and respectful. According to my description of the project, it should cost me $250. to have my basement floor drained cleared so the flow rate improves (slow drain issue only). I was told today to be prepared since they can't be certain the problem will be fixed with the snake. It may be more involved and exceed that cost. If its more and I don't want to proceed THERE IS A SERVICE CHARGE: $60.00. I would have scheduled the appointment today if the service fee wasn't 60.00 and I was informed back in July that they have service fees if the work isn't done at the quoted rate. The customer service wasn't the greatest and I WILL NOT CONTRACT THEM TO UNCLOG THE DRAIN. read more

We experienced a sump pump backup and flood and needed to get an opinion on if a more serious issue existed. The owner and I spoke on the phone for about 20 minutes and he gave me some temporary tips while we waited for our scheduled appointment. Had Billy Jr. come out and he assessed our situation, have honest opinions and recommendations. Spent a good amount of time helping us out. Ended up confident that we didn't have a major issue. Since he was out had him snaked one of our bathtub drains. Our whole experience with Master Plumbing was great from the first phone call until the service was complete. Highly recommended. These guys are the best in the business. A true old fashioned business that is so rare these days-- the way all businesses should be. I'll spare you the disgusting details, but I bought a house a few months ago that we've had over $20,000 in plumbing repairs on immediately that the seller failed to disclose. We thought we bought a move in ready house, but it turns out it was anything but. I was not in any way prepared financially to handle these burdens but we've weathered the storm to date and here we are. As soon as your biggest repair job was done (by another company since I hadn't heard of these guys yet), the sewer line backed up. The first quote I got to fix it was about $10k just to repair the line. I got 18 other quotes. Yes, 18. I'm pretty sure every plumber just assumed that since I'm a young woman I have no idea what I'm talking about when it comes to this type of stuff and that since I live in a nice house I have more than the $330 I now have in my bank account. Most of those quotes came in at $7500-12,000 to replace the sewer line. Then I found these guys. I was blown away out of the gate when they wouldn't trust another plumber's scope job on my pipe and wanted to see it themselves... Free of charge... In order to give an estimate. The fact that 16 other plumbers quoted me without leaving my front yard or putting on a pair of gloves was concerning. They gave me an honest assessment of what was happening and recommended we replace the line. Their price was the best of 18 plumbers-- and was exactly what it's SUPPOSED to cost (according to family members in another state who are also plumbers). They came today on a week's notice and replaced the line. They did it in 8 hours flat-- including the inspection. My line was about 30 feet long and 10 feet under ground. I had a tricky installation at the WSSC hookup, and they all spent awhile brainstorming how best to handle it and keep it problem free in the future. They have a new customer for life, and I've recommended them to everyone I know! Fortunately (for me, not them!) I don't think there is any plumbing left to break in my new house.... But if it ever does, I'm coming back to them! read more

A little disappointed in their service. The plumber was nice enough, but once he saw the problem it immediately showed that he wanted nothing to do with it. Small leak on a water service pipe that I just wanted patched. I was told I'd have to get the length of the underground piping to the house replaced, which would require digging up the yard and front porch, and they couldn't do it. Sounded like he could've tried to just fix the leak since it was isolated to one area, but didn't want to. After 15 minutes he took the $60 diagnostic fee and left. I'll be getting a second opinion on this one. read more

Once was a catastrophic emergency issue that required a simple but quick fix, one was a normal plumbing issue, and the latest was a major plumbing job (tear down of old in wall toilet and installation of a new one). I scheduled an appointment to have Mater Plumbing replace a three-faucet bathtub fixture with a single handle faucet. Jack to a look at the fixtures and gave me an estimate before beginning the work. He also asked why I was replacing the fixtures since I indicated they had been installed not quite one year ago. I explained the fixtures have leaked since they were installed and after two calls to the company that installed the fixtures and a consult from another company, the fixtures continued to leak. Jack stated he would try to fix the leak before going about the replacement. He found the problem, fixed the issue and saved me hundreds of dollars. Do not use this company! I had them install a backup sump pump. I didn't realize it for many months that it was NEVER working until the recent power outages. I called them to come fix it (I was willing to pay) and the owner insisted that the same technician come out to fix the problem. The technician was not able to make the appointment and wanted to reschedule for more than 7 days later - the owner would not even send anyone else in the place of the technician. Joe was extremely pleasant and helpful and sent a plumber to my house within an hour. The plumber that he sent carefully assessed the problem, showed and provided me with the details on the issue in layman's terms, and fixed it. We have used this firm a number of times since we moved to Silver Spring in 2006. Their work has been consistently outstanding and reasonably priced. Most recently, I emailed them on Sunday, April 28th from Boston, asking them to propose a visit date to repair a leak at a bathroom sink. They emailed back the next morning suggesting they could send someone at 8 AM. We accepted, the plumber arrived on time, found it was the faucet leaking internally, left to get a part, and finished the repair before 10 AM. They charged us $215. read more

I would not recommend this plumbing service. They constantly changed their quote. They performed work that caused a leak and then tried to tell us it was our fault even though we were not even in the house and the water was off and not being used. The leak was obviously due to not checking how tightening the hose to the intake valve of the toilet tank caused the intake valve nut to loosen. Any professional service would have weighted a little while to see if their work would cause a leak, but they did not. They decided to blame my wife even though no one was living in the home at the time. The leak caused water damage which it took multiple calls jus to get them to pay some minimal amount for the repair to the ceiling below. read more

Second time I've had Master Plumbing to my home. They are one of the only area companies that is licensed on my specific type of hot water heater. They fixed that a year or so ago, and I've had no problems since. Today, they came to repair a polar vortex-burst pipe and fix a leaky toilet. Chris arrived on time was very quick at diagnosing the issues and was clear about the costs up front. I find their prices to be very reasonable. Chris was also patient with me and helpful in giving me further suggestions and answering questions. It's safe to say I will continue using Master here on out. I recommend this company. read more

i called for a clogged bathroom from the conversation he said it looks like the main drain is clogged that will cost you $350 i said ok sound good, when they come he said no it looks like a bigger job it will cost $650 and we need to change the pipe that will cost another $300 under the chock i was expecting $350 end up $950 i said let me get second opinion/ check with my husband. he said sure but for my visit you need to pay $60 and it will be deducted from the total price if you diced to go with us. i made some calls and in the afternoon i called them i said ok just comeback and fix the problem. he fixed it next day and charged me $950+$60 he said the 60 was for yesterday visit you need another one for today???? MP's pricing is fair and the techs are ethical. On two occasions, I was ready to pay to replace expensive hardware but, instead, the techs recommended simple, cost-saving repairs. Master also goes the extra mile --- in January 2013, we had a severe flood in our house causing water to rain down into the living room , kitchen and basement.
