Chameli is definitely my go to place for lunch and dinner. I come here at least once a week, and I have yet to walk out disappointed. I am a big fan of all of their chicken/beef rolls, especially the chicken boti roll. I'm not a big fan of their biryani, just because of the type of masala they use, however that's just me. Ordered take out, great tasty Indian food for sure. Chicken 65 was real spicy but addicting, chicken biryani was delicious, chicken korma goes real well with the rice, beef curry was also tasty. I feel like there was waaayy to much hype about their new "over rice" menu that they released few weeks ago. Came here last night after a 12 hr shift from work, before I even got there I called and ordered my food over the phone and was told it would be ready in 15 minutes. I arrived to the restaurant 20 minutes after calling and suprised at how packed the place was, I mean there was NO place to sit! I thought this MUST mean the food is bomb. When I asked about my food, I was told to wait 15 more minutes, no big deal or anything, then Why did I even call in the first place? I was over it. After the additional 15 minutes I finally got my food and ended up driving home to eat it cause there was no space at the restaurant. I ordered a chicken over rice. Food came in an tin foil tray w/ clear plastic lid. The food was disappointing. The white sauce tasted like ranch, and the basmatic rice was so unflavorful and bland-like. The chicken was overcooked and not seasoned well. I have been to Halal Bros 12x in the past 2 years, inebriated and sober, (haha) but this doesnt even compare, I know what good chicken and rice tastes like (had it in NY 2x) and this is not it. The food needs tweaking. The service could be better. I still think the concept of late night food is great, but I think this isn't really anything to be driving across town for. read more

For the price, this place is a good if you have a craving for biriyani, naan or curry. Its not the best food I've had, but good for the price. The chicken biriyani is $3.99. The portion size is good. Naan is $1.25. They have a TV that is fixed on an Indian TV station - and I enjoy watching this while I'm there. read more

Flew in to DFW pretty late and wanted to get some food. Got here relatively late and they had run out of a ton of food options, which was very disappointing. I got the Boneless chicken biryani and it was okay. Wife got the chicken over rice and I thought it was pretty bad. The good news is that the place is really really cheap. Was recommended by a friend from B'desh who was really excited about the food here. We have tried Chicken and Lamb Biryani, Chicken Korma. Decent food at affordable price which is way better than other places that claim to have good Biryani. Clean place and we have been there only for dinner. By far my favorite places to eat! I am not a biriyani fan whatsoever but eating Chameli's beef biriyani surely changed my mind for good. I've tried other places but yet, I still run back to Chameli. With awesome customer service as well as delicious food, I can't help but be a regular customer. Also, their fish cutlets are definitely a nice addition to my meal. I'd have rated it much worse, except that he butter chicken is the best I've ever had of "restaurant style" butter chicken (as opposed to homestyle like at Zyka or Indo pak cafe across the street). I've given up odering anything else here as Zyka is superior for all else IMO, especially Zyka's chicken 65 which is as amazing as Chameli's chicken 65 is bad. Oh, the pilao rice and nans and everything else here is not bad, but it's the butter chicken that keeps me coming back and it's all I get now. I try to always have some for take out for out of town friends. UPDATE Feb 2010: there's a new chef or they changed the recipe for their butter chicken. It's good but no longer amazing. It has more turmeric now and is lighter in body plus is not as red in color, and mure cumin and just different in a lot of ways. I'm sad but will give them one more chance. read more

Stinky restaurant. I got almost sick waiting to pick up my take away food. It smelled like blood from meat in the restaurant. I drove 20 mins to the restaurant thinking of getting some meals for takeaway . After the gross smell in the restaurant I order only Haleem. They charge $8.69 for the 2 spoons haleem . I go here at least once a week for lunch [$5] - the Chicken Korma lunch special is my favorite and an awesome deal (you have to eat around the bones, but that's what makes it so incredibly tender). Make sure you get the Naan [although I like their rice too, so I usually add an order of rice[~$1.20], and I prefer the Cutlet that comes with it but my friend really likes the Samosa (interchangeable in the lunch special). The Chicken Karai is also amazing, and a lot of my friends love their Biryani. When I went on Monday [4/2/2012] the Korma was even better than it's ever been [SO creamy], so there may have been a recent change in cooking staff. read more

I have read the reviews about their Biriyani and thought of giving it a try. My friends came for a visit and we all went to this place and ordered the so called famous shahi biriyani. Man the WORST biriyani we've ever eaten. They charged $8.99 for this. The rice was not the fine Basmati rather the very poor quality and it was not cooked properly, the spices were not good and the goat pieces were almost burnt to black. It was sweetish (sweet biriyani????) If you are an Indian and ever eaten biriyani (even your home made) then DON't GO, just waste of money and your love/taste for biriyani. This is only about the visit on 09/09. We had ordered 50 samosas for an office event. Out of the 50, around 10-15 samosas were not properly prepared. It was still raw and we had to get rid of them. Management, next time please ensure that the food is properly cooked. If more time is needed please let the customer know accordingly. No point is serving half baked food. read more

I feel conflicted over this review, because the prices were good and the food wasn't bad, but they delivered our small order two hours after we ordered it on a slow Monday night. Also, when I called and asked if they had chicken tikka masala, they said yes and it was called butter chicken. I've had a ton of both in my life and know the difference between them; when I asked further, they said they didn't have tikka. Big Mistake ordering from Chameli. They don't use basmati rice for chicken biryani. Tasted like rice cooked in chicken curry. Don't know why they feel their biryani is a gateway dish. Super inexpensive and very tasty. I found my butter chicken to be spicy and flavorful, and where I'd normally chalk that up to sensitivity, I went with a friend that loves spicy food...and he was sweating. Granted, he asked for that. It was a little irritating that they have paneer tikka Masala, but not chicken. Samosas were tasty, albeit a tad spicy. Not super fancy but great for lunch, as service was very fast. I have been coming here with my husband for a couple years now. Atleast once every work week. The food is great. Options are plentiful and taste is uncompromisingly SE Asian. I live in Mckinney/Allen and good Indian food is hard to come by. There are some places here that claim to be amazing and have raving reviews but it's people who, no offense to them, are either ignorant of good biryani or aren't aware of the selection in Richardson. Chameli has the best biryani and for the lowest price. I know my biryanis. I make them myself. So take my word for it, Chameli makes really good Biryani. AND FOR CHEAP $3.99 for extremely flavorful chicken biryani whereas Allen has a place (with somehow awesome reviews) sells the same item (with almost no flavor) for about $11. I have tried their curries and though a little more expensive, fantastic. Definitely try this place, at least to pick up/take to go since it's not the most attractive dining area. read more

We have been going here for almost a year and stopped by several times. This place has been consistently good. We generally get the biryani, chicken korma and the naan. Their shahi biryani (on weekends) is good but fairly rich and heavy. Their regular biryani is ok but can't beat it for the price. It does have a Bangladeshi touch to it i.e. its not the typical Indian tasting food. Definitely worth a try. read more

Good food. Great chicken biryani. The lady at the counter was grumpy. She kind of "bang" the tray on our table without looking at us and her attitude was almost like she hated us. The thing is, she asked my name, so, if she did not want to bring the tray to the table, she could just call my name and I would be more than happy to get the tray myself. I went here after hearing the backstory--apparently the owner used to make biryani, and friends and relatives for years had told her it was good enough that she should open a restaurant, and so she did. So expectations were high. Went there this evening, Saturday. Not crowded. Can't say I'll be back. Chicken biryani was too oily for my taste, and had some hard bits (chicken bone?) in it that were disconcerting. Portions of this dish were large, especially that it was only $3.99. All other portions were small, and MUCH more expensive--strange. Chicken curry, for example, was just under $10, and was a very small portion. Taste was average. Rice was extra, so Chicken curry + a small plate of plain steamed white rice was almost $12--three times of a heaping place of rice and chicken--the Biryani. Also, beef biryani was also $10--anyway, all the prices were wacky. Garlic naan was excellent. Mango lassi was good. Tandoori chicken was a little burned and dry. Taste was ok, but the chicken was not especially meaty. And it was $5. Also tried chicken karai--this was good, but portions were quite small--this too was $9 (rice extra)--so, double the cost of the tandoori, although portion size was about the same. It's also hard to understand what they're shooting for in terms of service--you order at the counter, but they bring the food, but flat ware and drinks are self-service. Also, they're absolutely in no hurry whatsoever, and they'll finish stacking cups or whatever tasks they're busy with, before coming to take your order at the counter--be there in a minute, I was told at least a couple of times. No atmosphere; Indian tv program blaring in the background--so again, it's not really a restaurant (despite the name) and it's not fast food, and it's not a cozy little ethnic joint either--too bright and open for that; not sure what they're aiming for; more likely, they haven't thought about it. As I'm writing this, my opinion is falling even farther, so I'll stop before I lower them another star. Bottom line: OK taste, but portions are small, service tepid, and prices confusing. read more
