Not authentic type of Indian food, lacking in flavor & spice. There was also a weird smell at the restaurant.

Chameli is starting to be a really great place to get authentic Indian cuisine. I say "starting" because previously they would charge for anything. I went in with my family, ordered something different besides the chicken biryani (cannot beat that price) and notice that all curry dishes offer a side of rice or naan. So shrimp curry was the choice this time. Perfect! Perfectly peeled, deveined shrimp cooked to perfection. The added plus was the spicy curry it was flavored with. Order some extra naan to keep the mouth cool. I always say, go with a group where you can make things family-style. Order different curries and share it all. For what I believe to be the best and freshest Indian food in the DFW area, I never mind paying the price for great food. You won't either. Step outside the butter-chicken box and try something great today. They even throw a free side dish with a Yelp check-in?! Stop reading and start eating! read more

I throughly read the Yelp reviews before recently visiting this restaurant for the first time. Unfortunately, my family and I left disappointed. Both the chicken patties and samosas were dry and overly flaky/bready, but edible. Despite receiving a warning from the cashier that the Mutton Korma was spicy, I found it extremely mild and the dish was luke warm. The chicken meat in the Butter Chicken was over-cooked, there was not enough sauce, very little spice and the dish was also luke warm. The regular naan and garlic naan were both tasty, but still average. The chicken biryani was a good value with lots of chicken, but far too mild and the taste was just okay. The riata/chutney sauce was too thick, pasty and bitter for my taste. We took some leftovers home and the next day when I re-heated them to a suitable temperature, I enjoyed the food more. Therefore, if I return I will likely get take-out. read more

They have specials on Friday and Saturday with chickpea over rice, chicken over rice and have been plenty of times. Love the place !! A definitely recommended for Indian comfort food !! 1 recommendation is to update the timings for Friday and Saturday till 3:00 AM to avoid confusion read more

After getting confused about which curry paste to use to make my own curry chicken, I gave up & found this place via Yelp. I'm in love. I decided to order both shrimp and chicken curry (because I really love shrimp). While I waited, I redeemed my Chameli Chai reward and drank a delicious cup. I ordered my meal to go. I got home and tasted both items and decided to mix the two together. It was delicious and satisfied my craving. I will definitely go back. read more

When I get walked in, I wasn't greeted. I waited 2 minutes to even be acknowledged. I then asked if I could get a to-go plate from the buffet. The two men said something in Spanish and proceeded to ask if I could pay in cash. After I said yes, they said something to one another and laughed. When I looked at the buffet selection, they didn't have much of vegan options. Never going here again! read more

Made me sick :( Chicken Biryani, Chicken Seekh Kabab & Tea. I think it was the kababs or the green chutney with it. Not going back for sure! read more

If you like east Indian flavors - this is the place to eat. Authentic Calcutta biryani (except that the potatoes are missing). Exclusive offering - boneless biryani served from 11 pm - 3 am on Fri and Sat. It comes with a side salad and pre mixed 'raita' (curd based sauce already mixed with the main dish). Awesome food for after party hours - and rice is so good for putting you to a good night sleep :p. Only thing you need to be aware of is the wait time. Have a little patience and you won't be disappointed with what you get served. read more

Great service! The guy at the counter is awesome. All the biriyanis and Bengali food are very delicious. Try the Kacchi Biriyani to check it out. The owners are very friendly too. read more

Huge DISAPPOINTMENT!!! I wish i could give them stars in negative. The food was cold and salt less and tasteless. I got samosas and beef nihari. It was cold and there was no salt or no taste and it was super oily. I had to throw everything away. read more

Tried the shahi biryani was okay at best. Kind of dry for my taste. Chicken tikki was decent Kind of self serve restaurant. Food took forever and a half and we were first in line. Felt sorry for the people behind us. The atmosphere was basic but clean. 3 stars was the best I could give this place. Would prolly not return anytime soon. read more

My family and I really enjoy various dishes from Chameli. We love the butter chicken, chicken 65, veggie samosas, shrimp curry and so many more. read more

Slightly on the over priced items on the menu. Delicious chicken biryani for sure. The appetizers felt more like ready made items being heated up and given to us. Wouldn't recommend this place unless really hungry and nowhere else is open! read more

Some of the entrees (ex. Karai) are super oily but overall everything we've ordered from here is amazing. We get delivery often and I'm pleased by the quality of the food; sometimes delivery falls short of the dining-in experience but ours has always been hot and yummy when it arrives. The sides of rice are super generous portions. I recommend the butter chicken, the lollipops, and the naan. Right after I wrote the paragraph above last night we received our order. Sadly, the butter chicken was inedible this time. The only thing I tasted and smelled was butter. Pretty disappointing when you pay $10 for a small container. read more

I was enjoying my food when I found a metal shaving in it- in paneer tikka masala. And then my friend found a nail in his biryani. WTF. read more

Chameli Restaurant - Found this metal shaving in paneer tikka masala. And that nail in the biryani. - Indian Near Me - Richardson, Texas

This food is so good. The ease of ordering makes it possible for us to run by and get it all the time. The chicken boti roll is full of crispy vegetables and the chicken is flavored perfectly. That can be said of all entrees we have had. The spices are fresh and flavorful but not overwhelming and you can tell that care has gone into each order. I am a crazy fan of samosas and could eat theirs every day. The pastry for the vegetable samosa is absolutely amazing. It is so flaky and light but yet still able to handle the ample filling. Someone knows what they are doing. read more

my dad can make wayyy better indian food than this for sure. the girl working at the counter was nice... i think that was the only plus. the vegetable byriani came with a piece of meat in it... mind you, i do not eat meat... the dal was bland. the mixed vegetables looked like the cheap package of mixed vegetables that you get from the grocery store, with some garbanzo beans thrown in there. yes it was cheap, but it was NOT the bomb at all. 5 stars? nooooo no no.... read more

Alright, I have no basis of comparison and my friend is a Bangladesh native and therefore ordered for me since I'd never had Bengali food. I was pleasantly surprised. I'm not a really huge fan of Indian food in general so I was weary, but my friend guaranteed that the food was milder than traditional Indian food, so, I dug right in. I can't remember everything she ordered, but there was a white rice dish, a yellow rice dish with chicken, and what looked like a version of fried rice with chicken--I'm guessing this was the biryani. She also grabbed some dahl, naan (YUMM-O!!!), a chicken khari and goat khari. The chicken khari was VERY tasty and I sampled just a bite of the goat version because I'm not a huge goat meat fan, and I thoroughly enjoyed both. There were also some potato patties in there that were also a tasty treat (yeah, my friend ordered enough food for an army and there were only three adults and two children to feed!). My only complaints are that both of the khari dishes were very oily/greasy and you have to be REALLY careful of the meats because they are still on the bone. I picked everything apart before I started to nibble. Other than that, I loved the spicy new flavors and definitely will return for a second round :) read more

good food. Not great, certainly not as good as home made, but definitely worth the money (its really cheap). Also, they've changed the exhaust or something, because you don't stink when you leave there. Also, the quality of meat seems to have gotten better. I think there's a new guy in charge and they've made some changes. If you like spicy, skip the butter chicken and go for the goat Khari. read more

My experience with the Chameli was one of receiving the dried up nasty left overs from them cleaning out the fridge. The beef dish had no meat, just bones. The lamb actually looked like a dried up dog turd. I picked it up and snapped it on the table and it crumbled into pieces. The Beef Kabobs were cold and hard and literally had to stab them to get my fork into one of them. Nothing was edible! read more

Biryani was okay. Dry - more like fried rice....Better biryani at Delhi Dhaba for same price. Nothing special . Appetizers on display looked tiny. I was not tempted to order anything else. I was wondering about this place. The $4.99 Chicken Biryani is what lured me in. I was excepting bad Indian food but the ratings were decent so I decided to try it. I can safely say I was pleasantly surprised. I ordered 2 Veggie Samosas, the Chicken Biryani, and Beef Curry Rizala. Samosas: These were very good, especially for $1.00 each. They were huge, almost twice the size of samosas from other Indian places I've been to! And they were absolutely loaded with chunks of spiced potato, peas, and Indian spices. And the skin was thin and fried perfectly to a crisp. Spice level was pretty low so it was pretty good for me. I just wished they provided some chutney for dipping but these samosas were good enough to stand on their own, especially for the price. Chicken Biryani: $4.99 for this much biryani? Wow! This is easily enough for 2 maybe even 3 meals. And while you do only get dark meat chicken, they give you a good amount of it. This order came with 1 huge leg and 2 large pieces of tender chicken meat. Delicious. And the rice. The rice is so well flavored and delicious. Slightly oily, but not really a problem. And the spice level was a good solid medium, which must be the default because I didn't ask for a specific spice level. This is definitely a winner. Beef Curry Rizala ($7.99): Rich beef curry with chunks of beef. Beef was good and only 1-2 pieces had bone in it. Excellent. They give you a side of rice but I added a piece of naan bread to dip into it. I found the naan to be reasonably soft but could still hold its own in the thick sauce. Very good. And for $7.99 the portion is pretty reasonable (like one of those soup cups from Chinese take out), Overall Chameli is definitely a delicious Indian/Bangladeshi joint and the prices are absolutely amazing compared to other Indian places around here. I may definitely be a repeat customer and will try everything I can on their menu; it all looks delicious! read more

This place has great Indian food for an affordable price range. They don't charge $10 for chicken biriyani like some places do, only $4.99 and they give you A LOT. This is definitely my new fave place to get great Indian food. read more

Ah well, the chicken biriyani has increased in price to $4.99, still really good! Always get an extra serving of garlic naan, it's cheap and you get 2 more super yummy naan for like $1.79. Butter chicken is good but on the pricey side at $9.99. Mango lassi is still super yum! read more

Opened in 2006, Chameli is a wonderful addition to the Indian and Muslim scene. If you are tired of the usual Indian food, you should try Chameli. The owners and their food are Bengali. Biryani (Indian fried rice) is good here. Chicken or Vegetable Biryani are popular among guests. The Kebab Roll is also recommended. If you like it spicy, you'll like the food here. Naan is hot and flaky. The atmosphere is warm and familial. Once in a while there are off-menu dessert surprises on the counter, just whatever the cooks happen to make that day. They are all new and unfamiliar desserts. read more

Chameli is definitely my go to place for lunch and dinner. I come here at least once a week, and I have yet to walk out disappointed. I am a big fan of all of their chicken/beef rolls, especially the chicken boti roll. I'm not a big fan of their biryani, just because of the type of masala they use, however that's just me. Service is great, they usually will have your order out to you within 10 minutes. This is definitely a place everyone should try- cheap, fresh and yummy food! read more

For the prices and location, this was great desi food. The chicken korma was very delicious. The beef had fantastic flavoring. I would skip the haleem and chicken roast next time.
