We stopped at Chalkboard Menu today for lunch. My wife had the portabella burger with sweet potato fries, and I had the fried rice with steak. Both of our meals were excellent. For dessert, we had the cinnamon roll topped with pecans, vanilla ice cream and chocolate and caramel syrups. Very tasty. The restaurant is located in the former International Delights location. Very nice interior. Service was friendly and efficient. We plan on returning for breakfast soon. read more

Chalkboard Menu is a great new culinary addition to Las Cruces. The food is prepared fresh and the menu is an array of different options. I prefer vegan or vegetarian dishes and they have a good selection. I had a plant-based burger, my wife a salad and our companion a portobello burger. The service is top-nosh and the prices are reasonable. It is not in the best area of town, but well worth it. read more

I've been aware of Chalkboard Menu for a while but today was my first visit. It's mostly American food with a little bit of Japanese-inspired food. Their menu changes every few months but from older pictures that I've seen, it seems like they only make small alterations while the bulk remains the same. However, the operating hours can change quite a bit. Right now they're open 11am-8pm and only closed on Thursdays (last season they were closed on Mondays). The restaurant was practically empty when I arrived for lunch. There was only one other group here and they were pretty much finished eating. I had the gyoza appetizer and it was really disappointing. It has five pieces and they were very soggy like they were steamed too long. Real gyoza are supposed to be crispy. Not worth the $7. I tried the Eel Roll and it was ok. A little bit pricey at $13.50, but not the most expensive I've had for the quality. This place prides themselves on using real crab meat and not the imitation stuff but honestly, I couldn't taste any crab. I did notice a slightly different texture compared to imitation crab. A few months ago this place had a sushi happy hour from 4pm-6pm three days a week (dine in only) where some of the rolls were half off but apparently they're not offering this deal over the summer. My last item was the Portabella Burger with fries and I could have gone without it. The portabella mushroom was extremely hot and the amount of steam coming off of it was making the bun soggy. I had to set it aside for several minutes while it cooled down. It was also very hard to bite through. You also receive a couple tomato slices and pickles with a few bits of lettuce. The best part of this meal was the small handful of french fries. I wouldn't get this again, especially for the $13 price tag. Be aware that the staff will offer to bring you condiments like mayo, ranch dressing, chipotle sauce, etc, but they will charge you extra for them, which was not mentioned when I asked for a side of ranch. The little cup they brought out cost $0.50. I only found out after seeing the receipt. With tax and a tip, my total was about $42. You pay the bill at the counter and there is a sign that says a 4% fee will be charged for credit card transactions and paying with cash is preferred. I paid with a card and didn't incur a transaction fee (at least, it wasn't listed on the receipt). They use Clover for their credit transactions. I'll be back again, maybe in a few months to see the next menu rotation. read more

I had the End of Summer salad. It was one of the best salads I've had in Las Cruces. It was superb !! My friend has the Mozerella mushroom burger with fries and said it was delicious !! Great job !! We will definitely be back! read more

My group and I went here for a friendly lunch and thought it was a great spot to eat. However my own personal experience was far from the bare minimum. My interested entree wasn't available, so I opted for another entree but the sides that came with it weren't available either. What kind of restaurant is this in which all of the foods aren't available? It wasn't a busy time either. When I received my plate, my entree meat was burnt and hard! I'm not sure how one can ruin a whole plate of meat like that. In addition, my salad dressing had a small taste of alcohol that sort of ruined its taste. Our waiter was friendly, but seemed to be clumsy. She nearly dropped plates and spilled condiments on the floor. Also by the time we checked out, she asked all of us to pay at the register one by one rather than taking all of our checks in one go and having us sit at our table. read more

Interesting spot with an eclectic menu and decor. Ribs, birria ramen and chicken Alfredo were all enjoyed by our group.

Been there twice, once with a group and once as a couple. Good food both times--had the Yaksoba which was pretty good--not the noodles I'm used to but tasty sauce & chicken, and the breakfast which was really good. Reasonable prices, good service, & a cute atmosphere. read more

Best salmon in Las Cruces! My spouse and I split the generous salmon dish which included asparagus spears and quartered, seasoned small potatoes. For appetizer, we shared the veggie spring rolls (4), and we both ordered the side salad with raspberry vinaigrette dressing. Wonderful food! Great server, too! Chalkboard Menu is a full service restaurant in the back of the plaza on El Paseo where International Delights was once housed...near Albertsons. The inside is attractive, bright, clean, and somewhat roomy. The ambiance is quiet and relaxing. No obnoxious music here. The service I experienced was efficient and pleasant. The prices are moderate. The customers this afternoon seemed to be on the older side and many we're ordering breakfast items. The menu is eclectic and somewhat creative. I, however, just ordered a green chile cheese burger and fries as I make fried rice dishes, chicken fettuccini alfredo, chicken curry, and omelettes of high quality at home. My meal was prepared and on my table in about twelve to fourteen minutes. It was delivered on a white platter. The soda was served from the can to be poured into a glass with ice. The toasted bun on the burger was great: real flavorful and it held up well. The single burger patty was cooked well done. It was on the thin side but it was nicely seasoned. Along with the sandwich came spring mix veggies, tomato, green chile, and pickles. This was a very good burger. Not anything sensational, but very good. Rate it around a "B+." The only thing on the negative side was that the tasty green chile from a jar was not drained thoroughly and initially the liquid from the chile ran out of the burger and on to the plate...something not uncommon in many restaurants. The fries were on the thinner and short side. They had a little seasoning but we're quite pale...almost white in appearance. These fries were not bad but at the end of the day rate only a "B-." They could stand improvement. Overall, my time at this restaurant was a pleasant one. For the overall dining experience rate this restaurant around Four and a Quarter Stars...meaning well above average. Give it a try. read more

Today was my first time to eat at Chalkboard. Arrived right when they opened so only a few people. The waitress was nice but she didn't know the menu at all. Even though it wasn't very busy, I felt like the owner could have followed up on the tables. He was busy decorating the heaters outside. It would have been nice if he would have at least said hi. We brought a group here a couple of nights ago. We had fifteen guests that we had made a reservation for. The facility is neat and clean, although plain in its decor. Chalkboard has an extensive menu. If you can't find a dish you like here, you probably should stay home. Our group chose a wide range of dishes and I never heard a complaint. Our server was polite, deferential, and efficient. he delivered our food as quickly as the kitchen prepare it. Every meal came to us piping hot. My pasta Alfredo was creamy and delicious and my husbands stir fry perfectly prepared. I highly recommend Chalkboard. read more
