This is a great little spot. Prices are reasonable. Would definitely recommend coming in & checking it out. Came in with a colleague for lunch & we got here just before the lunch rush. They make the burgers, fries, & onion rings to order. So it all takes time!! Be patient. The burgers have that great smash crust on them but still flavorful & juicy. It's a very basic burger. Lettuce, onion, mayo, mustard, ketchup (I think?), & cheese but no bacon! Wasn't upset about that, totally understandable, the bacon would slow things down even more. Fries, curly fries, & onion rings. Pop, water, tea, & sports drinks. All in a fridge & nothing in a fountain machine. Chips if you want them. The difference between the regular burger k the great burger is the regular burger is basically a slider. Again, still reasonable. Would definitely come back. Make sure you double check the order though. My colleague asked for no mustard & her had mustard on it but an easy fix. No issues. Also, looks like you should be able to place an order online soon. Great little place that offers burgers, hotdogs, tacos for a GREAT price. Couldn't figure out difference between regular burger size and great burger as there was no description (great burger looks about 6 to 8 oz). The crust on flat top for all burgers was great. It is a smashed burger tho I guess for the great burger you could ask them not to smash. Hot dog was also on flattop and not boiled but wish they left it to char longer. Great variety of drinks and even unique flavors like strawberry cream sodas. The taco was probably most disappointing. It was meat and potatoes but it tasted too soft/mushy. Loved that they did toast breads and even taco shells. Some was bit too long on stove. They served burger correctly.. the cheese was on bottom then meat then toppings (to prevent bun from getting soggy. Onion rings, know they are frozen but didnt care as ut was fried Perfectly.. and i mean Perfectly to where u bite and onion doesnt come off. Not at all greasy and extreme crunchy with hint of salt which was fantastic! Crispy even after 10 mins (driving back). Cafeteria food! We ordered four small burgers and three fries for our family of four, while the price was very impressive. It took over 50 minutes for us to get our order. Let me be clear, this is not a fine dining establishment, it is very clearly a fast food joint/takeout spot. I couldn't believe the amount of time it took to get our food and then when we got it, it was very subpar and kind of burnt. It was also very hot inside the restaurant. Definitely a local favorite. The interior gives off cafeteria vibes, and you order at the counter. Food does take awhile. However, that's because they literally make each burger to order. The entire time I was there - well before lunch hours - there was a line. First time and was NOT what everyone was raving about! The burger as good and the green chile was on point but, 35 minutes from time of order till we were called was not worth the $27.80 we paid! Onion rings were VERY WELL DONE and our canned sodas were hot by the time we got our order! The very sad part of this whole thing was the take out orders were more important then the dine in orders as we sat they keep send out order after order to go while those of us waiting just sat.. The burger nook started selling their awesome burgers 40 years ago and still going strong today. Establishment is old but awesome with interesting of memorabilia. The tasty Burgers are cooked to order on the flat top grill. The buns are also toasted on the flat grill. I asked for chopped green chilies, lettuce, tomato, onions and mustard. Thank you Yelp for hooking us up with a delicious burger place. It's not the best place I've ever been to in my life for a green chile cheeseburger, as I tip my hat to a place just outside Albuquerque for THAT nod, but the burgers are legit and worth a stop. It's definitely a mom n' pop place. Locals seem to call it in ahead of time, which is suggested, as time stands still here. If you plan on eating here, get there early as there's only 10 tables or so, and once you place your order, expect to wait as its cooked to order. We had the regular burger and the Great burger. The Great ones are much larger (hence, the word Great and it reflects on the price). The green chilies provides some heat but its not overly spicy. Very tasty. The fries are much to be desired. Limp. And a large is not large. I thought 2 could share a large, and it's smaller than a basket from In-N-Out. Quite disapointing. Would I stop again? Sure, but I'd stick to the onion rings, and call ahead for my meal. read more

Another trip over to the Burger Nook today. Ya just have to get some every so often. Arrived around 10:45 on a Wednesday when they were not too busy. The pleasant women had my food ready today in around 13 minutes. I ordered the double patty Great Burger with green chile, lettuce, and cheese along with a large serving of onion rings. A can of soda from the fridge was only a buck. The onion rings were good with a crispy batter...not at all greasy. The onions they used could have had more flavor, but overall the rings were good. Rate them a "B." The burger had two patties, not greasy but perhaps a tad dry. The meat was nicely seasoned. A slice of cheddar cheese lay over the meat but was unmelted. Fresh lettuce and flavorful chile accompanied the meat. The chile was properly strained and there was virtually no liquid or grease in the bottom of my basket when I finished my meal. The burger bun had a really good flavor. Overall, this was an excellent burger. Rate it an "A-." Today's dining experience at the Burger Nook was Four Stars for quite good. I'm traveling through Las Cruces and saw the great reviews for The Nook hamburgers. So, I went. I walked in and it was very small. the side room had taken most of the main room tables and chairs. I ordered and then a nice gentleman offered me a seat at his table. His order was a few ahead of mine so we had a nice time chatting about the area and finding a good hamburger in a new town. After a VERY long wait we got our orders and both cheeseburgers were overcooked, no flavor whatsoever, and the buns were crunchy. A disappointment to say the least. The staff were friendly. Great burgers, local kitchen feel to it, and green chiles! It may be busy on a Saturday or whenever everyone is out and about (there was a baseball tourney down the street and they were eating lunch here), but it was well worth it. The burgers are cooked on an grill, and I feel like the grease on the burger is what makes this place different from other burger places in town. A double patty was almost too much for me! But the chiles make it have that extra spice and kick to it that we all need. The fries were good but could've been a little less cooked. We shared a large and nearly finished it though. I love how every yuppy that just moved to town from California say they love this burger and it was the best place to go their whole life. The reality is, this burger is the best, when we were kids at would eat them for a quarter a piece. These burgers are as good now as they were then. The sisters that run this place are saints. I love their hamburgers and fries here. I always get the single hamburgers with no onions and no tomatoes. I also like to add their specialty Hatch Green Chile in my hamburgers. Their service is not good or bad every time I come here. The ladies who run the place and cook aren't very friendly unless you're a regular there and even if you are a regular there, they still have to decide if they like you and want to be friendly. But that hasn't happened with me yet but it's okay, I'm just there for the hamburgers anyways!! I prefer taking out my food and not dining in, simply because of the fact that the little diner is either packed or with hardly any people at all. I don't care to eat in there and would rather take my food and eat it at home like I always do when I order from here.
