I had been wanting to check this place out for a while since hearing it had a casual, sports bar/pub theme, but Indian. Seemed interesting.
When we arrived on a Saturday evening, the decor wasn't what I had imagined. It seemed to have a normal restaurant feel - nicer than just a casual pub - although it did have a couple big TVs on the walls. There were also some signs for craft beers which could have contributed to the pub-like description.
Maybe I was still thinking about this place as a pub or tavern (from the 'Public House' name or the original description I had heard), but the menu also gave off a more casual, comfort food feeling.
Started with the Vegetable Pakora, which was battered pieces of individual vegetable rather than the mixed vegetable patties some places serve. The batter wasn't too heavy but provided a thick casing that dominated the taste.
For mains, we had the Fish Jalfrezi (fish version was the Chef recommendation), Palak paneer, and garlic naan. The Ling fish was a bit overcooked, but the sauce has a subtle spice which I enjoyed. The spinach in the palak paneer was nice and smooth, but the cottage cheese cubes seemed dry and harder than I've had at other places. The garlic naan was our favorite- really garlicky.
Overall, I wasn't blown away by the food, but I'd come here again when looking for a casual place for Indian food in the area or maybe for the Trivia night. read more
