Lobster Bar is special. Not only is it located in Island Shangri-La hotel (which screams high end customer service), but Lobster Bar takes unique great pride in their establishment as a Taj Mahal of crafted cocktails in Hong Kong. A friend of mine back in Las Vegas told me that this bar was on a Top 10 list she recently read about. Being a full time martini drinker who takes a vacation from my beverage of choice in the summer time, I was blown away by my experience with their crafted cocktails at Lobster Bar last night. The ambiance of the Lobster Bar that spills into the well-appointed Lobster Grill is welcoming. Light blues, detailed stained glass windows, hard woods, maroons, great lighting...everything is there to enjoy your time at the bar or in one of their comfy couches. After ordering our two drinks, be prepared for a little wait time. Not because the bartender is busy with throngs of customers, but because of the time, care and preparation that goes into making these special concoctions. Really quite special a special craft. We enjoyed a Genever Smash and a Lemon Sherbet Bishop. Order a drink, take a sip and then ask to relook at the drink menu to see the ingredients. The ingredients and flavors come to life when you see them and then consume them at the same time. I realize that booze is a time old tradition shared by millions across the world. Lobster Bar is special and a twist to this tradition. You can get a drink anywhere, but do yourself a favor and go to Lobster Bar and order one of their crafted cocktails. It will be a drink you will not soon forget!

These little fried fishes paired really nicely with the aioli and would be a nice complement to a beer or alcoholic beverage. The mains were ok and not as good as the tapas. We had the sea bass and the pork. Of the two the sea bass was better. It had a nice crispy skin and the dill and onions paired nicely. The sauce it came with I didn't like too much. Next time I think I will pay the extra 40 hkd to upgrade to the beef. We had the lemon parfait and the churros for dessert and both were pretty good but not great. I was a bit disappointed with the churros. They didn't come out hot and weren't as crispy as I would like. The chocolate sauce it came with was good and helped make up for the churro. The lemon parfait was different from what I expected. It was more like a lemon cake. It was nice and tart and the cookie crumbs it came with gave a nice sweetness and crunch to contrast the texture of the parfait. All in all I would definitely come back. At a minimum for happy hour to have some tapas and cocktails.

I can say that FoFo's rooftop bar is solidly...middling. The happy hour deals were middling: 30% off house wine, beer, and sangria. I tried several reds before settling instead on a glass of prosecco which better fit the warm air. The reds were fine but nothing special. The prosecco was nice; dry and light. My buddy had the red sangria, which tasted like sweet fruit punch, almost like an Xmas drink. The views were middling: from Lan Kwai Fong sweeping east across Central and Admiralty into the hills above the Zoological and Botanical Gardens. No stunning harbour views or dizzying heights, but totally enjoyable nonetheless. Perhaps improved by the surrounding office windows which become fishbowls for observation at a certain evening hour. The atmosphere was superb! Just kidding. It too was middling. There was a nice breeze blowing across the roof, but the decor was strange - it was very dark and there were little orb lamps that just hadn't been turned on. The tables and chairs seemed to be lacking something, whether they just needed a good wipe down or their matching cushions were gone. And the whole place gave off the air of being a bit forgotten and empty, parts of the bar covered in plastic wrap and only one lonely server inattentively serving because his phone was more interesting than the clientele. I'll try to convince some one else to order a plate of chicken tandoori so I can take a bit of that as well. Sometimes I wish I had a bigger stomach so that I could have the tandoori and the curry... and the naan. The food is full of flavor, the portions big, and the service relatively quick.I can tell you how good it is but I think the best way is to go for yourself and try it. It gets busy on the weekends because there's always one sport or another showing; football, rugby, motor sports, and the crowd can get a little rowdy, but don't let the outdoor hooligans intimidate you because inside it's normally much more tranquil. On a non-sports night its a great place to sit outside and enjoy a peaceful, quiet, group dinner. Remember... get the mozzarella sticks.
