The ambience was nice, the typical Middle East feeling was there. The server was great and attended us very well. We had the ceased salad, which was good. Then we had the assorted kebab plate in which we had one vegetarian, one lamb and one chicken kebab. The lamb kebab was ok but the chicken kebab made my day. It was perfect juicy, soft and spiced up. The vegetable kebab was ok, my friend told me so. The home style fried potato was amazing. The humus was usual with the pita bread. I definitely recommend this place for the kebab lovers. read more

Found this restaurant through Google when we were traveling through on a cross country road trip. The cuisine was unique being Tajik. Everything was flavorful and delicious. We had the Borsch, Kazan (ribs), Pilav and Llaya Kebab. The prices were a little high. They are open till 9pm even though Google shows 8pm. Also, staff confirmed everything was halal. read more

Very interesting central Asian cuisine in Omaha. We tried variety of their rice dishes, very similar to any other Indian Pilaf however flavor is very different and taste. Really liked their Dumpling which is much different than Chinese dumplings. read more

New place that I found out about on Yelp. Always nice to try a new cuisine from a different part of the world and so I was excited to take my friends too! Food: While overall good, it left something to be desired. The Sambusa (bun with meat stuffing) was my favorite. However, I was not crazy about my lamb kebab skewers. It felt like it was lacking flavor and the meat was very tough. My friend had ordered the Lulya Kabab which was quite tasty. Also, the bread served along with the kebabs was cold, like it had been taken out of the fridge, which really put us off. These are some small things that that make or break the dining experience. Another thing I felt was that the menu could use some more variety. Considering 'Chaikhana' literally translates into 'Tea House' I was expecting to see more flavored tea options (there was only one tea option). I understand that this is a brand new place and I look forward to all the exciting new things this place has to offer. Decor: The decor is beautiful. Comfortable seating with beautiful upholstery and gorgeous wooden tables, I think the decor was my favorite thing about the place! We ordered a lot of food for our group and every single person loved their meal, including the soups, the salads, the appetizers, the desserts. We can't make enough positive comments about the food. We tried Chaikhana for the first time for dinner and we were pleasantly surprised. There were 4 of us and we all thought the food was very good and that we would definitely be returning again. I had Lulya kebab, the others at the table had beef kebab, vegetable kebab, and Chicken Shawarma with fries. All of the kebabs were served with a nice salad, and rice pilaf. I loved the flavor of my food and glad I ordered the Lulya kebab. We also had the hummus and the Chaikhana bread, which was amazing. The service was spot-on too. We'll be back! read more

We were running errands and I found this place on Yelp. We had a delightful lunch! We split Meat Dumplings as our appetizer. I had the Luyla Beef Kabob - it was excellent. So tasty and the rice pilaf was nicely seasoned. My husband had the Gyro and loved it. We are from out of town but do come to Omaha to see our daughter and her family. We will definitely come back! Wonderful healthy homemade food. Eastern european. My favorites are the soups and dumplings but tried several things and never been disappointed. Its made from scratch traditional. Unique dishes in a simple, affordable, accessible place, all served with a smile. Particularly enjoyed the dumplings, hummus and lamb kebab. Chicken kebab delicious but undercooked. Tummy rumbling now... Borscht and Lagman soups hearty, worth a try. Bar lacked any bourbon at all (hello!!!) but did offer a solid deal on Glenlivet at $4 for a 1.5oz (precisely) pour. I forgot how forgettable it is. Beautifully etched wood tables and interestingly upholstered seating add to the vanilla ambience. Men's restroom clean enough. Lovely server provided 10% discount card toward next visit. Tadjikistani bollywood music vids bolstered the ambience. I hope to return but remain concerned about the rare chicken. One other issue: the drinkware tasted soapy. I tried three different glasses and all tasted this way. Maybe just an off night for the dishwashing crew, or a technical glitch with their equipment. Mom I'm sorry this Borsch is better then yours! Holy cow though; this place is awesome. I'm happy I jumped on yelp prior to heading to another restaurant and saw some kind reviews about this new ethnic gem in town so I decided to make a stop for dinner Sunday night. Walking in is very welcoming decor an you don't feel like you are in a strip anymore. I was welcomed by one of the family members an the two people that helped me at the bar were super friendly an recommended my first two courses the Sambusa am the borsch. The Sambusa was oven cooked pastry type appetizer w minced beef in it. This had a red extremely good dipping sauce that accompanied it. I loved this dish but there were pieces of grisly beef at times but hey some people like that I'm just not a fan. Then came the borsch. I rarely if ever see it on menus so was pumped to see they had that. It is scrumptious good am reminded me of moms cooking. Extremely filling an could be a substitute for a meal. It had a huge piece of tender beef as well as big potato an was very very good. I almost was not able to eat anymore but ordered the chicken kabobs anyway to try them an wow is all I have to say. They come out on a huge skewer w two dipping sauces some rice an this bread there I honestly didn't really try. These chicken kabobs are what you write home about. Extremely tender an succulent piece seasoned to perfection. Quite honestly this has officially bumped up to one of my favorite new spots. Can't wait to try more. The basics: decor is simple, yet charming - the tables are all imported from the owner's home counter - carved table tops protected by glass tops. Our server was excellent, both in her knowledge of the dishes, but in looking after the needs of our group - 16 people who meet monthly to eat out. The sound level was low, so we could easily enjoy conversations even from one end of the long table setup to the other. The drinks list as not huge, but was very adequate for our needs. Nice wine selection. The food was fresh, delivered with little wait time. We loved the fact that the menu featured Central Asian and Russian food, and explained, for each dish, the ingredients. Let us know just what we were about to order. Not too spicy, not bland. I had the Ukrainian borscht, and the olivie salad. They were delicious! Not long ago I had the privilege of having the Ukrainian borscht make by a Russian visitor, that was great. What Chaikhana prepared was more than its equal. My wife had the stroganoff special, and exclaimed that it was the best we'd had. We discovered a curious phenomenon, that we all wanted to sample each other's dishes. That was unusual for our group. Added was that no one was in a hurry to leave after dinner. Rather, we lingered and discussed our wonderful meals. My wife and I now have a reservation for an upcoming birthday celebration. Note that even though the establishment is not large, they handled our group with apparent ease. All in all, this was a highlight of our dining experiences. My new favorite place near my house. I do not hand out 5 star ratings very often, but this place has me wanting to hand out 6 stars. The place is decorated extremely nicely. They serve Asian, Mediterranean and Russian food. I started out with a bowl of borscht. I received a very large bowl of soup. It had large chunks of tender beef, tomatoes, potato, cabbage, onions, celery, beets and horseradish with a dollop of sour cream on top. Oh my God, this was so delicious I wanted to lick the bowl out. Next I had an order of manti. They were 4 large delicious steamed dumpling stuffed with diced meat and spices served with sour cream. Then I had an order of Pilar. It contained rice, beef chunks, carrots, onions, garbanzo beans and bayberry. It was very mildly flavored and very good. It was served with a good side salad of sliced tomatoes, onions and cucumber. I took a lot home due to the generous portions. My wife had the chicken Kabob and she just raved about the tender,moist, juicy flavorful meat. It was served with rice, some mushroom, grilled pepper and a piece of homemade bread. She loved it all. I have never seen a Kabob with this much meat on it before. She finished her meal with a large slice of coconut cake which she took home with her large amount of leftovers. They have a full bar, great service, great food, comfortable seating, large portions and keep the place very clean. This place is a great value too. I will likely be back within a week to try more of the menu. Came back a week later for lunch. I started out with their olive salad, it is like macaroni salad on steroids. Small bits of boiled potatoes instead of elbow macaroni plus small pieces of meat too. It was delicious. Then I had an order of the chaikhana bread with a bowl of the shurpa soup. The bread was a round loaf of nicely browned bread that was surprisingly light on the inside. It was perfect for dunking in my soup. Speaking of the shurpa soup, it was very good. It had large pieces of meat, photos and carrots in it along with some other finely cut up vegetables. The broth was wonderfully seasoned, the meat was very tender large pieces of beef and it all came together in a very good bowl of soup. This was my second time here and I will likely be back again very soon. You have got to try this place. Back once again, this time for my birthday dinner. Started my meal with a bowl of their borscht.. The only was that they could possibly improve this dish would be for them to give you more of it. For my main course I had the beef stroganoff. It was very different from any other that I have had before, but nonetheless very good. It had thin, tender, very flavorful pieces of beef served over roasted potatoes with red peppers and onions. I highly recommend it. My wife had the gyro and fries. The meat, and there was a lot of it, was tender, juicy and perfectly seasoned. She also really liked the pita bread it was served in. It was warm tender and very easy to chew. No need for a knife and fork here. This is already my third visit and I see many more in my future. read more

My wife and I had a wonderful experience at Chikhana. Looking for someplace different to go, we stopped in on a whim on a Friday night. Very friendly staff, and very clean and spread out interior for a small restaurant. The menu is simple, but was full of options for all tastes, and many items we've never heard of. We tried the sambusa for an appetizer, which I'd describe as very similar to a "Runza", but certainly better. My wife had the beef kebab and I had the Lulya Kebab (mix of ground beef & ground lamb). Both were absolutely delicious. Meals were served with a nice sized dinner salad and rice pilaf. Meals also came with Chikhana bread, which we both thought was too dry and dense for our taste, but we didn't need any bread with the ample portions and appetizer. This place is a bit out of the way for me, but the food was delicious and made the hike completely worth it! I went in at an odd time, so the restaurant had plenty of seating. I had the Samsa, Greek Salad, grilled Chicken and Lamb kebabs and hot tea. Everything was well-portioned and tasted great! The grilled kebabs were my favorites: nicely seasoned, soft inside, but with a nicely charred crust on the outside. The salad was very refreshing and all ingredients were fresh. The samsa dumplings were very good, but one thing I would recommend when ordering them is to finish them at the restaurant, because when I tried to reheat the leftovers at home, they got all soggy. I love Tajik food and I'm really glad I found gem in Omaha to satisfy my cravings! read more

I went there on the opening day so they were very busy. We had to wait for the food for some time which is natural given the fact it was the first day and very busy. Food wise, everything was fresh and delicious. Everyone at our table had different meals and were very happy with their choices. Yesterday I had a great dining experience in Chaikhana. This is really a great addition to Omaha's handful ethnic restaurants. The atmosphere is almost magical and the food is absolutely delicious. I tried lamb kebob with comes with basmati rice, an eggplant side dish and salad. Quite a good size serving. They have wine, beer and I think other alcoholic drinks. Very friendly staff that made the dinner extra fun for us. I will certainly go back with other groups of friends. read more

The interior is the best thing about this place. Sad to say, that for a middle eastern restaurant, it has none of the flavors.One friend had the shrimp kabob w/rice, she said it was pretty simple and added salt. It came with a salad 2 small pc of roll wedges & a dip. The dip was just a blended tomato (ice cold) & flavorless. I and another friend had the gyro (one of my favorite foods). The pita was cold and straight out of the store bought package - not grilled or toasted. The swarma was sliced like off a loaf of compressed meat (not upright rotisserie) cold and flavorless, some onions, 2 long roma slices and straight up plain Greek yogurt , not tzatziki sauce. It came with store bought freezer fries- which were good even at room temp. We were not given the option to exchange the side for rice or salad. We ordered a greek potatoes app. They were hot and had NO seasoning & came with the same ice cold blended tomato in a cup. Just down the street is a Greek restaurant that Chaikhana should do a reconnaissance mission to. read more
