My daughter and I had the lunch buffet and everything we tried was sooooooo good. We had Kale Poora (fried Kale fritters) - I'm not really a fan of Kale but this was amazing, saag paneer (spinach & Indian cheese), Kheema (lamb hash), uttapam (a savory pancake). The buffet was constantly refreshed, we never had to wait for anything. This was my second time visiting Chai Pani in Atlanta. Last time I visited this place, they had a buffet for lunch, but now they have one only on weekends. The ambiance was great - well decorated with marigolds, which gave a festive Indian vibe. Service was quick and servers were sweet. I loved Bottiwalla so I already knew I would love this but I have to say it blew me away! We got there on a Friday around 6:30 and had to wait about 20 minutes for a table in the patio but there was tons of room inside. To drink, I got the Malabar and let me just say I didn't know I need tequila, Campari and Aperol in a drink until now because that was awesome. To eat, we got the kale pakora, the potato pav sandwich, the saag paneer, SPDP and some naan. Plenty of food for 3 people and we had extra but everything was amazing. I came here for lunch with my coworkers and I had not heard about so I was really excited to try it. It's an Indian buffet and I believe they now have locations in other cities. They offer chai tea and water as part of the buffet price. The food is really delicious. Authentic Indian cuisine and each dish or side is labeled as vegan, gluten free or clearly detailed with the kind of protein and spices. The place is festively decorated and they have an outside covered patio with seating to enjoy your meal in nice weather. The servers remove your dish as you finish to make room for you next round. I'd been waiting to come to Chai Pani for a long time and wow it lived up to the hype!! I came here for dinner with a friend on a Thursday night. We came pretty early and I'm glad we did because there was such a long line when we left, even on a Thursday! There's a small lot to park in, but I also found residential parking across the street. Chai pani is pretty spacious and I loved all the decor, especially the retro signs and marigolds everywhere! It was just so cheerful. We decided to order family style. I got the Pani drink which was so delicious and really did taste just like Pani Puri! Have visited Chai Pani twice now, once for dinner and once for the lunch buffet. Lunch buffet is a good deal, definitely love the self-serve tea! The food was alright, a bit heavy on the fried items though (would have preferred more dals and other dishes). Spice level was pretty low, definitely manageable for someone who isn't very good with spicy food. If you're looking for more flavorful food, though, I'd suggest trying a different place. However, I wasn't wow'ed by it. It might've just been that day, but the curries weren't all that flavorful or spiced, which is usually what I'm looking forward to with Indian food. Wowwww I have been eager to try this place and boy was it worth the wait! We ordered here for pick up. I had the butter chicken, samosa chaat and Lime Ricky. The butter chicken had more of a kick to it in comparison to normal but I didn't mind that. The sauces that came with the samosa chaat were incredible. The lime Ricky was a very refreshing and fresh drink! I was not a fan of the cabbage nor the naan. I had high expectations for the naan and it honestly left me disappointed. I've heard good things about Chai Pani and so glad to finally try it! I've tried Botiwalla at Ponce City Market and liked it so I had a feeling I would also like Chai Pani. I came on a Tuesday night and got seated quickly, no wait! They have free parking at the lot but lot was nearly full when I got there. I believe there is nearby free parking after 6pm at a nearby carpet store. There is a lot of dining area and I love the decoration. I felt very immersed ! We got a mix of food, including sev potato dahi puri, Kale Pakora Chaat, naan, Chilli chicken, cheese uttapam, and daal. Everything was delicious and flavorful ! My favorite was the kale pakora chaat. There was plenty of food for 3 people and was very reasonably priced. Service is good and food didn't take too long to come out. My friends brought me here for dinner while I was visiting. We went on a Saturday night around 6 or 6:30. They had a bit of a wait for our party of 5 but they take your number and you can check your time on the waitlist with the link they send. While we waited we took the kids to the toy park nearby which is where we parked. There is a small parking lot at the restaurant but it is pretty tight. They had a pani puri cart at the front. I didn't try it but it looked fun. Could be a pre dinner snack while waiting for your table. The line for it was pretty long. One of my favorite places that I wish I visited more is Chai Pani. This place delivers on flaaaavor! They were super busy on Friday night for dinner and added us on the walk up list and were told the wait would be 30-40 mins. They have a Pani puri cart on Fri-Sun for hungry diners waiting to be seated. I ended up ordering - $5 for 5 pieces and was it worth every bite. My husband also ordered from the bar while we were waiting for our table. 15 mins later, I got a text that our table is ready. We were seated and our server dropped off water. We were not yet ready to order when she came, so we asked if we could have more time. It took her awhile to come back but our food did come out pretty quick after ordering. We ordered the daal of the day (yellow lentils with chili oil), kale pakora, amritsari macchi and naan. I also ordered chai tea (free refills y'all!) and my husband another cocktail. The kale pakora was our favorite! It was crispy and so flavorful. The daal was okay and found it too watery. The amritsari macchi was fried to perfection with the best yogurt sauce and I've been craving fried fish so this satisfied my craving. I made the mistake and ordered regular naan, which was tasty but should have ordered garlic naan for added flavor. Service was decent. Our server checked in on us a few times. We went back to Chai Pani on a Saturday lunchtime when they were offering the unlimited lunch buffet. It was good value; with taxes and tips, around $50 for 2 people. We were given a number to take to the table which had a QR code to order drinks from the table if needed. The buffet itself was well stocked and varied; they had a dhal of the day which was vegetarian, and a channa (chickpea) option. Butter chicken and fried catfish were the main proteins, with saag paneer (spinach & cheese) and some tasty kale bhaji (fritters), poppadoms and naan which were all awesome. At the end of the buffet was a table where a chef was plating individual portions of aloo tikki chatt, a fried potato topped with chutneys and garnishes. The plates were pretty large, silver metal and round with a lip to keep sauces in place - just take a clean one each time you go back for more! The tables weren't cleared off very frequently so we ended up leaving with a little stack of used plates. The bathrooms needed a little tidying but otherwise everything was really good, and we'll definitely return for more of the amazing food. read more

Even though the food was heralded as authentic in previous reviews, having Indian neighbors who bring me true Indian food has changed my perception of Indian cuisine. I think this food is more fusion than it appears. for example, we ordered samosas and dal like soup. I think of Samosas as an entirely dried pastry perhaps with dipping sauce. This was a deconstructed type of thing with samosas swimming in a pool of Dahl sauce. The flavor was good but the textures were a little bizarre. I am not sure if this dish works- I would not order this dish again. I thought their sauces and chicken (dry) was also not memorable. I would stick to their snacks and street eats and avoid main entrees. They also have good tea and alcohol drinks, so come here for socialization for sure. If you're looking for authentic and lighter fare that sticks more to traditional fare, then I would recommend elsewhere. that being said, most Indian buffets are over salted, over oiled, and too much sugar. Since it was a buffet, there was not a lot of service which was fine. At lunch, I got the Butter Chicken, Naan, Kale Pakoras, Bhel Puri, and Aloo Tiki Chaat. I thought that the Butter Chicken was good, but nothing too special. I also prefer Garlic Naan over Naan just because of the added flavor from the garlic, so I felt okay about the Naan. I was pleasantly surprised with the Kale Pakoras--it was so light, crispy, and flavorful! I kept getting up to get more at the buffet. We arrived without reservations on a Saturday evening and had a brief wait, but we were accommodated well. There was also a Puri Chaat cart in the front area to experience a taste of Indian while we waited. Upon being seated we were greeted by Liam who welcomed us and asked if we wanted to start with any orders or if we had any questions. We told him it was our first time at the restaurant and he lit up with excitement. He recommended a few things for us to try and offered a free token for us to try the Puri Chaat cart. They had a great drink list that was very unique, we ordered the Chai which has free refills and the orange rosemary spritzer. I will come back to this place just to get the spritzer again and again, that's how good it was. The Puri Chaat is a crispy puff made of flour and wheat filled with potatoes and chick pea filling and a spicy green sauce that was similar to salsa. For dinner we ate family style allowing us all to try new things and give the kids a chance to experiment. We shared two orders of naan, two orders of basmati rice, and order of samosas chaat, butter chicken, and Gobi 65. We are a family of five and there was more than enough food for us all. This menu would be a good option for vegetarians or even vegans. The Gobi 65 is a crispy cauliflower seasoned so well it almost tasted like chicken nuggets. The butter chicken is a boneless chicken in a savory tomato cream butter sauce. The samosas are served in a mild chick pea chutney finished with sweet yogurt and tamarind. Opening in 2013 in Decatur, while original location is was started in Asheville, Chai Pani quickly became a local favorite. The group is headed by Chef Meherwan who certainly brings some uniqueness to the Indian restaurant scene. For starters, the menu is more condensed than most restaurants and focused on highlight dishes. Secondly, the dishes that are there are pretty unique for American market, such as Vada Pav. Concepts like Panipuri being made in a small cart at the entrance are also incredibly entertaining. The environment is pleasantly casual and colorful. The patio could use some real plants to separate it from the parking lot. While it's not the worst patio in Atlanta, Atlanta is also not a great city for patio dining. While it's understandable that some of the fake marigolds add color and character, it would be nice to see the restaurant augment the patio with some real greenery and flowers. Maybe even Georgia native plants. Butter Chicken is certainly one of the best in the city. Vada Pav is wonderful. Chili Chicken is an unusual preparation and may not be for everyone. I came specifically for the lunch buffet and although they were very busy, I didn't have to wait too long. Parking was a bit hectic, but it's free if you can get in the lot. Excellent food, but that is overshadowed by the lackluster staff. There are a handful of bad hires who have an attitude and 0 work ethic. This is the third time I've come in the last 3 months-- my mother-in-law had the door slammed in her face (without apology), the host had an attitude about us choosing to not sit outside (when we prefaced that was our preference originally), and now tonight our server did not check on us a single time. This isn't an exaggeration-- she took our drinks/order, then other staff fulfilled it. We weren't the only table either she didn't check on. Went in to Chai Pani for a Saturday night date night. It was our first time going. The hostesses at the front were super friendly. We were seated within 7-10 minutes. Our wait time was 10 mins. We tried a few different dishes. Gobi 65 and Samaosa chaat as appetizers and Butter chicken and Daal of the day as entrees. Plenty to share between 2 ppl. We also had gulab jamun and one iced chai and hot chai as dessert. Chai was AMAZING! The entrees also were great! Service was pretty quick and our server was nice and checked in on us. Overall a great experience. Parking is a bit of a pain for this location great ambiance for families and bigger parties. They also have a fun outdoor patio area as well. read more
