TLDR: chicken tikka masala was delicious, chicken tender. I've gotten takeout from this place several times and always thought it was just good. But this past time I got takeout, the chicken tikka masala really blew me away. The flavor was very rich and well developed, without just a surface level flavor of tomato. Each bite of chicken was also very tender. To be fair I haven't had Indian food in a while and was really craving it but I was pleasantly surprised. Garlic naan could've been a bit more garlicky but was very good texturally, nice and chewy. The parking garage entrance is right next door (to the right of the restaurant) and you can get validated inside. I went all the way from Marietta to Midtown to experience Tabla first hand as I had heard about it multiple times. This is the summary of my experience there: 1) Ambiance 3/5: The place from outside looks contemporary and chic. The bar looks inviting but as you enter the dining area, the place is dated. The decor looks shabby and I feel they should renovate for they have a reputation to maintain 2) Service 3/5: This was a hit and a miss for me. Though they are gracious enough to validate your parking, the service was at times good but at times slow and bad. One person was good at suggestions but the other person was really lazy. I went their for my birthday but they took about 10 minutes to get me a candle which was disappointing to say the least. 3) Food 4/5: This is where they excel. Although everything was pricey. The taste made up for it. We had: a) kaala khatta : This is basically shikanji but was refreshing b) mango chili mojito: My wife loved it. We always come to Tabla as we feel like the ambience and food quality is not the same at any other restaurant in ATL yet. We have not tried GHEE yet so that may change. We came for lunch on the weekend as we love the thali concept. All of us ordered a thali which comes with bread, rice, side dishes and an order of your main entree. Everything was good except there was no dal in the thali. We were disappointed. But everything in the thali was delish. The dessert - rice Kheer was amazing. I had some before and some after (stole my husband's). Decor and bathrooms were neat and clean. Servers are okay, I have always felt that they can interact a bit more but they appear stoic. Stepped into Tabla with some coworkers for lunch and we really enjoyed the meal. I ended up ordering the Lamb Rohan Josh Thali lunch special. The Special came with Lamb, a vegetable, Dal, Naan bread, rice and a dessert ($18). The portion size was a bit smaller than I expected it to be, but the dish was just large enough to fill you up but not leave you feeling bloated. The dishes were extremely flavorful and had a slight level of heat that was perfect and not too overpowering. The service was extremely quick, we were seated, served, and checked out within 45 to an hour; and the staff was extremely attentive. I finally made it out to Tabla and so glad I did! We came for lunch on a Wednesday and what an absolute treat! Their lunch menu is smaller but well priced and we had plenty of food! We of course got some naan and samosas because those are classic! but I think my favorite app was the tandoor octopus. What a great take on this dish and stunning! For our mains, we shared the lamb biryani, butter chicken and some of the different chicken dishes. I love the biryani and the butter chicken was a classic. Met friends here for dinner. There is a comfortable waiting area by the door as well as a bar inside. My group was seated outside which we liked because it was a beautiful warm evening. The outdoor patio area was a little cramped between the building and some planters but we squeezed in and the staff managed to get to us. My only real complaint is that the mosquitoes were plentiful and several of us were bitten a lot. We shared a few appetizers: stuffed mushrooms, burrata naan, and my favorite the corn ribs. These were strips of corn cob heavily seasoned and grilled. Delish! For entrees, the lamb shank was popular. Very spicy, and looked medieval. Butter chicken was also a favorite. I had moilee curry with chicken which was only slightly spicy. I needed the mango lassi to cool my mouth. I tried to eat it all but ended up taking part home for later. Garlic naan also lovely. The staff was attentive. There were three people checking on us and each seemed to have a different focus: water, bar drinks, food. I came here with four friends, and we had some amazing espresso martinis--they were super strong but totally worth it! I went for the Saag spicy, but unfortunately it was not at all, which was a bummer. One of my friends ordered the chicken tikka masala with the highest spice level, and it had a fantastic kick. We visited this amazing Indian restaurant on a Friday night. You can park in the building carpark. First you have to pay for the parking but you can validate it upto 3 hours using QR code at the restaurant. Right from the start, we received a very warm welcome from the staff. We chose to sit indoors, although they also offer outdoor seating. To start, we tried their Tikki Margarita and a smoked cocktail. The Margarita was sweet but quite strong--definitely worth the money. We tried their "Rupee beer", which is a light larger and it was very hydrating. For appetizers, we highly recommend the lamb kebab, which comes in a portion of four pieces. For the main course, we had the lamb biryani, garlic naan, tandoori chicken, and paneer. The biryani and goat curry came beautifully wrapped in a dough. Everything was absolutely delicious, but the highlights were definitely the biryani and goat curry. Great upscale Indian restaurant in midtown! Tabla has a decent atmosphere, priced pretty fairly for midtown, and has validated parking in the garage for 2 hours. We started with pakora as an app for the table and then each ordered a dish. That was my first time trying pakora, but I really liked it and would definitely get it again. Since I'm basic I just got the lamb tikka with a side of naan for my meal, and I also thought they were made well! I liked the variations in naan, especially the cheese and truffle one! For dessert we split this ice cream dish. I wasn't the biggest fan of it since I don't really like cardamon, but thought it was still good. Also have a good lunch set (pic 2) where you choose a curry dish (we chose chicken tikka masala) and everything else comes with (varies depending on the day) all the curries and chutneys were super flavorful, heavily spiced and very smooth and silky. Service and food were excellent and the restaurant, while not unique or very pretty, is classy and pleasant for dinner. Came here for our anniversary. We started off with their Brussels sprouts appetizer and I got their spiced old fashioned. The app was similar to a tuna tartare in the way it was served. I loved this. Spicy and full of flavor. I would absolutely eat this again IF I could turn back the clock and be in my 30s. Unfortunately, my 40s have brought with it a digestive system that simply can't handle what younger me could handle. And here, they don't ask you for your spice level. They make it the way it's supposed to be made, which is Indian spicy. Don't get me wrong-I loved it and actually brought home the leftover sauce. But it was difficult on my system. Had some nice food there with my friend. My friend got tandoori chicken, I got the rabbit curry, and we shared side Roti and tandoori veggies. They all tasted good. It was my first time to have rabbit in U.S.! The meat was super juicy, packed with flavor from the curry--it had some spicy kick, but not too much--and many other different flavors from the herbs. The tandoori veggies was interesting: they coated the cauliflowers and bell peppers with yogurt and cheese before they were grilled, so that they were creamy and smoky. The chicken dish was huge and my friend enjoyed it as well! The restaurant was a bit pricy, though. The price for mains were actually reasonable, but the side dishes were expensive lol. Since they asked us if we needed validation, then there is a lot near here, but we did not park there. There is also street parking near by. This is a more upper scale sit down Indian restaurant with NO lunch buffet as many other similar restaurants have. The number of dishes they have is somewhat more limited and classified differently from other Indian places we have been to. The atmosphere was average to noisy on our visit at about 6:30 on a Monday. Inside is dimly lit and there is patio seating. We recommend indoor to try to avoid the mosquitos. We got the saag paneer which is listed under curry, the butter chicken, and the garlic naan. The saag was more like curry in consistency and had a little different flavor than other Indian restaurants as did the butter chicken. However, we liked the way they seasoned the food. Each dish cane with a personal sized bowl of rice that you could put the curry directly on to. We also got the tiki margarita, which is a bit sweet, but we liked it. It also came with a spicy colored salted rim which had excellent flavor to complement the drink. We have been to numerous Indian restaurants in three different countries and several states in the USA and this was one of the better ones. Was a little pricey for two people, about $100, with tip, but probably about right for a higher end restaurant with today's inflation. The service was good. The food at Tabla was and still is excellent. Service however has deteriorated significantly. Waitstaff seem offhand and uninterested. I had lunch twice at Tabla within a week. On both occasions we were brought the check (unasked) while I was still eating! On the most recent occasion, it was hard to get a server's attention to place our order, but they seemed to be in a hurry to get us out of the door, even though the restaurant was not full. When Tabla in Midtown first opened, dining there was always a very pleasant experience with great food and service and it was a cut above other Indian restaurants and worth the price. I have been wanting to try this place for years, and was very excited to go on a date night-the ambience was very chic and elegant, but unfortunately the food left so much to be desired. It tasted like they hadn't really seasoned it nearly at all, like a few other Indian places in metro Atlanta that I've been before that I fear are trying to cater to what they /believe/ the local American taste is--watered down, and essentially flavorless. If I want underwhelming food, I can go find somewhere serving British food.
