Sankranti is very convenient to pick up Indian food. They have a make your own bowl option and their service is really fast. I ordered the boneless chicken biriyani and the paneer biriyani, and both items were very flavorful. The protein sits on top of fragrant spiced basmati rice with a nice gravy on top to complement it. The yogurt sauce is delicious as well. If you are looking for a quick meal, it should definitely be on your list. While I thought $16 for an entree was a little steep, but half of an entree is very filling. read more

So the food has to bring its "A" game every day. Sankranti brings great food to to meet the high bar set by these residents, students, patients and staff. I enjoyed the Vegan Bowl at Sankranti with a slice of bread. It was health food with a kick of spices that were refreshing, nourishing and invigorating. I've been here twice now and not only was the food very tasty and fresh, the service was excellent. The restaurant was clean and inviting. There was a very positive vibe and that alone made me want to return. I was also given a coupon the first time and when I came back they told me to keep it and gave me a discount. This place just opened up in Emory village. I read that someone said it's like chipotle for Indian food and that's exactly right. You choose your base, proteins, and toppings. The flavors of the food are fine but the chicken didn't really look appealing. They gave me a chicken that wasn't seasoned at all and I had to ask for them to give me the "red chicken" which is what the person in front of me had. Also none of the toppings actually go with Indian food. They had things like dill pickles, carrots, cabbage, and cucumbers which doesn't typically go with any Indian dishes. The galab jaman was surprisingly good, but I don't think I would be back. It definitely reminded me of fast food but I could see this being good for the college clientele. New place, or so we assumed by the "now open" signage. (We're from out of town.) The cafeteria style, fast causal setting was easy to follow. The staff was nice and service was fast. I chose the largest rice bowl. You get to choose a base (two types of rice or greens), a protein (curries) and then topping like shredded veggies, fried goodies like samosas or potato cakes, and sauces. You could also choose some flat breads on the side. Portions are fair, spices are there, and overall, a very versatile meal. Veg friendly, vegan friendly, could make it super 'unhealthy' with lots of fried add ons, or go fresh with raw veggies on top! My dining partners were pleased as well. The food is flavorful and served hot. I appreciate being able to get two different proteins included in a standard bowl. The gentleman behind the counter was courteous and explained the dishes. The ambiance overall is quiet - there is indoor and outdoor seating so you can people watch while you eat or study in the corner. Comparing this location to an authentic Indian restaurant over at Patel Brothers wouldn't be fair. This restaurant's approach makes Indian cuisine more approachable overall. However paneer was dry, was missing some sauce for the samosa, and the spice in the tikka masala was a little off from what I'm used to. This is a new place that is trying to make a name in the fast food/college world. Has a lot of potential but not quite there yet. Needs work on efficiency. The tikka and tandoori options are good but time consuming taking away from the concept. There were 4 people in line and it took almost 30 min before 4 orders were done. Please consider geilling the meats to near completion and complete it to order when the order is made. Or just avoid the grilling meat altogether. Stick to curries and rice/salad options. Please is clean. Music in the restaurant and TV outside is misplaced. Stick to the Indian theme. The out tv were blasting 1980s rap. Not necessary. Stick to premade samosa and other similar delicacies. Consider rotating the offerings to some degree. Different curries. Different sides. I will be trying this place and hoping to see improvement. Meh. As Emory Village restaurants go, this one isn't a bad option for a student looking to grab lunch within walking distance from the school, but it doesn't have much else going for it. Let's call this a 2.5 star restaurant that I'll round up to 3 stars. Sankranti is a Chipotle-style bowl place, where you design a custom plate from a few options for rice, protein, and toppings. The menu is extremely limited, as there are really only a few different permutations of bowl available from the very small set of options they have. On the bright side, the service is of course extremely fast, because you have your bowl in front of you immediately after ordering at the counter. I tried the tikka masala and chana masala, and both were pretty underwhelming. The tikka masala was just ok, and since it's a dish you can expect to find at virtually every Indian restaurant in America, it's not like you have to look very hard to find a better version at a nearby restaurant. The chana masala was pretty disappointing actually. It was bland, tasting mostly of only cumin and chili powder (which is not to say it was very spicy, just not particularly strong in any other flavor). What this place has going for it is the convenience of being an affordable, casual, quick lunch spot in Emory village. I'm sure many students would be happy to have this place here, but if you're able to drive a little further outside Emory village, I'd recommend going elsewhere. With similar (but much better) fast-casual bowl places like Curry Up Now so close by, I don't think I'll be coming back to Sankranti. read more

This is my first visit to this place , I ordered a rice bowl with paneer ( cottage cheese ) and saag as a curry option Veg samosa and mango lassi to top it up Rice was little undercooked , paneer looked as if it was sitting out in the open for a couple of hours , saag was okay but was missing some Indian spices to get that kick , samosa looked as if reheated from a tornado oven Mango lassi was great , Had a hint of cardamom to it , tasted better than other Indian places around I strongly feel that they should not serve mixed greens or lettuce with curry bowl as it gets drenched in curry sauce and does not taste great Lot of toppings to choose from ( tomatoes , pickles , onions , purple cabbbage etc ) Will return back to try other protein and curry options read more

My wife and I stopped in for a takeout order the other day and we were not very impressed. Inside was nice and clean and everything is still new. Service was pretty quick and friendly. We ordered a chicken tikka masala with pulao rice and paneer tikka masala with jeera rice plus one samosa to try. The dishes strangely had a strong sweet taste at first, and didn't have a strong Indian spice taste. Samosa tasted as if it had been fried and reheated, filling was ok. Overall, food was not great if you're looking for a good Indian restaurant that is ok if you want a quick bite. Probably will not return. read more

The first time I ordered delivery from here, I was very pleased. The second time, less so. The saag paneer and tofu vindaloo weren't described on the menu as soups, but that's what I received: two bowls of soup, one with two tiny cubes of paneer and the other with two tiny cubes of tofu floating in them.
