In downtown Willoughby the chagrin River diner has a company to space that used to be a taco joint. But it resembles nothing of the old place. It's a diner but not a hash House style diner. Our server was very prompt regrettably I did not get her name. But I do remember she was very tan LOL. I have had quite a few turkey bacon clubs in my day and most of them have been mediocre at best this was straight up a five-star turkey bacon club. Had a nice aioli on it fresh lettuce generous slice of tomato more bacon than probably should have been on it and turkey. But when I say turkey, I'm not saying deli turkey. I'm saying Thanksgiving turkey. Thick pieces of turkey. Real turkey. And a lot of it. And it wasn't toasted bread it was grilled kind of like how you would do a grilled cheese proper. My friend said I ate with could not finish the other half of their sandwich and I would say for $14 for a monster turkey bacon club generous portion of fries and a couple of diet Cokes I would say I made out greatly. What a great place I'm definitely going to go back here for lunch I hope no one else finds out about it LOL read more

We've been to this diner twice and have been disappointed. It's in a cool location and the staff are nice enough, but the food was disappointing. Requested a medium-rare burger, it was well done. Not seasoned at all. Pork medallions were over-cooked. Aioli sauce on friend's zucchini cakes was way too strong on the garlic - she had to scrape most of it off. Great French fries, though, and the portion was generous. The diner itself has poor acoustics and it gets really LOUD when busy - can be hard to carry on conversations, especially for anyone with hearing issues. read more

We were looking for a place for a quick lunch and stopped in the Chagrin River Diner. We luckily found street parking just across the street. The diner was surprisingly busy for a Thursday afternoon but since it was just two of us, we were seated right away. The server was friendly and there are lots of options on the menu. We both had the turkey club with fries. The sandwich was delicious but the fries were just okay. We will definitely return someday. read more

While visiting in Willoughby we walked from our airbnb to the restaurant which was nice. The music was a bit loud for our taste but I'm sure others like that kind of ambiance. Had the best breakfast all year here, the carnitas breakfast tacos, which were some of the juiciest, most flavorful tacos I've eaten, along with a side of perfectly cooked tators . The coffee was incredibly good here too-everything was done perfectly and was high quality and service was good as well. If I lived in the area I'd be coming here all the time.. This was the most surprising find in downtown willoughby . We came to downtown willoughby to sit outside since it was almost 80 degrees in April. I mentioned to my husband we have never been to the Chagrin River Tavern so let's try it ! He was apprehensive because he doesn't like new places, but right after we looked at the menu he was quick to say "what a great place." We started with the home made ginger-ale (which might be the best part about this place .) It was so good and refreshing for a nice spring/summer drink ! Nice change to having water at every meal . We got the black bean hummus as an appetizer, even my almost five year old dove right in and started eating it ! My husband got a sandwich and I got the Kale salad and added cedar plank steelhead! The fish was cooked perfectly! The only downside was you cannot order drinks here , but it is BYOB ! One thing I did see , is the brunch menu is amazing and cannot wait to come back and try there avocado toast ! Great find and will definitely be back ! read more

Not the top choice for picky eaters but is great with wide variety's of foods an isint too fancy.

One of my favorite spots. All the food is good, best monte cristo sandwich around. We went today for breakfast and they were slammed but we grabbed a spot at the bar. It was entertaining and amazing to watch how the kitchen runs, they were hustling, organized and pumping out orders as quick as possible. Unforunately the Chagrin River Diner in Willoughby has some kind of a bug or fruit fly problem AND has had it for a long time. I always sit in a booth, near their dying plants, so maybe the bugs are coming from there??? However, the fruit cup always comes with little bugs flying around it....gross! Please please do something about this because overall, I like going there. Plants in restaurants aren't always a great idea, plants attract bugs. Please do something about this!!!!!!!! They are the best! According to my fiancé, their breakfast tacos are the best in Cleveland, and this is coming from a guy that orders breakfast tacos every time we eat brunch. We make it vegan by getting the bean mix instead of carnitas & he loves it. Their turkey club is also really good! And their balsamic dressing is on point too. I'm so glad they opened in Willoughby a few years ago! Also their service is amazing. There was an outage of their systems due to Spectrum (not their fault), and we couldn't order on the apps or call them. They went REALLY out of their way, chatting with me over FB and connecting me with the owner over his cell phone to deliver food to us because we couldn't pick up our food. It's not what they normally do, but it just goes to show what kind of business they are and the kind of people they are. Also, they did an awesome job making their outdoor patio area really cute. Came in for Sunday brunch. Very busy. Got seated at the bar looking over the kitchen. Very cool to see all the chef's hard at work and working very hard to make each meal perfect. We ended up getting the corned beef hash and breakfast tacos. Everything was so delicious, left feeling very full! My friend got the fish sandwich and she switched out fries for broccoli and I got the turkey club with fries. We also ordered a wedge salad to split. Honestly though it was all too much. The wedge salad is pretty large and we ate it all. It was very good. The sandwiches we both ate half. They were both good and filling and we couldn't finish. And let me tell you the fries rock!
