Almond milk tea and coffee milk tea
    Myphuong L.

I get overwhelmed when a place has so many options for food and I don't know what to order. While we were waiting for chicken next door, we got an almond milk tea and Vietnamese coffee. I can't find many places with almond flavor and order it any chance we get. It was a tad bit sweet but great flavor. I can't say the same about the coffee. That wasn't on the menu but she said could make it so I guess she tried her best.

My brother and I over-ordered. We had actually ordered from 2 other places and decided to get even more food from here! We ordered a taro smoothie for my niece, porridge either pork and preserved eggs, and the hot and sour chewy glass noodle soup. We ended up taking the porridge and hot and sour noodles to go. These 2 dishes hit the spot in satisfying our late night craving! I love ginger, so I appreciate the thinly sliced ginger strips in the porridge. The e porridge was nicely flavored, tasted like something my dad would make (he's an excellent cook!). The hot and sour noodles were really flavorful! I loved the chewy noodles and the broth. My only negative feedback was it that it was really greasy (from the chili oil). We would definitely come back and order these 2 food items again! My niece thought the boba was just ok. The taro was artificially flavored. The lady who runs the restaurant is super sweet and really nice. My brother makes it a point to always order something from her even though he's ordering from the other restaurants, so we didn't deviate from his routine. I'm so glad that I got to try the food here! I will definitely be back! This restaurant is located inside the 99 Ranch Market food court, on Balboa Avenue. Come check it out! You order at the counter and there's a clean and spacious area to sit and eat your food, or you can take it to go.

I don't know what dish this is but it has beef with tofu. THIS IS NOT SALT AND PEPPER TOFU.

Today I ordered one entree: salt and pepper tofu at 11:43 am and I did not get my order until 12:17 pm. Not only did I have to wait over 30 minutes for one dish but IT WAS THE WRONG DISH THEY PACKAGED AND GAVE ME. I was not aware until I was on my way home in the car. I checked my receipt and I definitely ordered salt and pepper tofu. For me, I will not be returning, it is better to go next door to Shang Xi or cluck n sip , both of which are faster and more reliable! I will call to see if they'll refund me but I doubt it. I will update my review if they do.

Ordered the preserved egg pork porridge around 8pm (pre ordered thru the phone) and was able to pick it up 5 mins later, piping hot. Although a smidge pricy at a whopping total of $15 including container fee and tip, this place came to mind when thinking about a cozy, homemade meal. I am normally a little shy but I ordered with my Cantonese bc I knew the owners spoke it, and the owners' son(?) actually entertained me which I thought was super cute and endearing.

Mostly carbs and the few pieces of beef are not fresh!

Mostly noodle, little veggies, even less beef, and the beef was not fresh. This place has few customers, cause and effect. Stay away.

Haven't ordered from here in awhile. Last I ever ordered was a drink. Just came here right after grocery shopping and I wasn't sure what I really wanted to order but I just Chinese food or just fried rice and maybe something spicy. They have so much dishes that it can be a bit overwhelming to look at but the guy at the counter can help break down what's possibly good. Besides wanting fried rice, I ended up ordering the salt and pepper pork chops with beef fried rice. I got my food to go and the guy told me to make sure to not tie the bag so the pork chops can air out and not lose it's crispiness. By the time I got home, the pork chops was still nice and crispy. It's actually my first time ever having s&p pork chops. I usually get chicken but for the price and the amount given the pork chops was a better fill of choice. The fried rice would've been perfect alone but thankfully I did add extra protein; aka the pork chops. It also did come with a side of white rice. I did want something spicy so he just added some chili oil on the side. I ended up having left over meat that the next day, I just air fried it and it was still nice and crispy and the flavor of the s&p was just perfect as if it was still freshly made. Service was good.

Searched for a bubble tea place and was hungry for dim sum food -- just arrived in La Jolla and did a Yelp! Search. Decided to try this food court as it was highly rated and when we drove over did not know it was inside an 99 Ranch Market and nearby Target. We were so excited because we're from the east coast and only just got a 99 Ranch about 20 minutes away we haven't yet visited. The service was excellent - friendly and quick. Enjoyed our roast pork buns and dumplings and teas!

Fried Cod Fillet with Spicy Salt, Chicken Feet, White Rice

The guy taking the order was super friendly and helpful. I felt like fish for the dinner and he recommended the Fried Rock Cod with Spicy Salt. I would definitely return to eat here again just to have that fried fish, the breading was thin and crispy. I can't wait to try some of the other items on the Menu! The restaurant is located within a food court in the 99 Ranch. There is lots of seating and tables. I really wish the businesses in this Food Court had more exposure because they're hidden gems.

    Scallion pancake
    Samantha W.

Scallion pancake was probably the worst I've ever had. It was soo dense, firm, soaked in oil and had no crispness. The worst part of this meal was finding a dead fruit fly in our chicken congee (porridge). My husband took it back to let them know and they did offer to remake or give a refund which was nice so we got a refund. The shrimp chow fun was the best part of the meal but it was still not good - missing that char hot wok flavor and under seasoned. Very disappointing meal.

They have a new menu with even more items! They serve restaurant quality food in a food court. Dinner for 3 is reasonably priced. We ordered 2 orders of xlb, orange peel chicken, pan fried pork and veggies dumplings and Mongolian beef. All the meat entrees came with a good portion of rice. This is one of my favs to go to. Their xlb is good, though the skin is a little thick.

ChaCha Tea Spot is one of the food and beverage vendors inside the 99 Ranch Market on Balboa Ave. From its name, you would think that they serve only tea, but they actually have a selection of hot items on the menu like fried rice, noodles, dumplings, and even congee. I came to get a honey green tea which at the time cost $3.50 for a regular size, $0.50 for the addition of boba, and another $1 more to upgrade to a large size. The quality of the boba tea drink was average for the price. The server actually made a mistake and had prepared a honey milk green tea which cost an additional $0.50, but I was not charged for it. I really think the best feature of this place is their offering of savory foods. On this occasion, I bought a bowl of beef rice porridge (i.e. congee) to go with my beverage. Their congee was more watery than what I am used to, but at least the serving was in a standard large bowl. I also purchased the Singapore Rice Noodles to-go for a future meal. The amount of curry used by the kitchen was perfect to provide the proper amount of spiciness to the dish. The prices on the menu screens are not always up to date to reflect what they actually charge for each item so buyer beware when you pay your bill.

Beef noodle soup - excellent flavor overall, including a strong broth and a nice, soft texture to the noodles. Out of the countless Chinese restaurants I've visited for beef noodle soup, this makes its way into the top three. 5/5 Lamb skewers - wayyyyy too dry. This is certainly not their specialty, and asking for extra cumin to sprinkle on the lamb did not redeem the firmness. I struggled to slide the meat off the skewer and ended up just eating it while still on the stick. 1.5/5 Fish fillet - so good. Easy to eat texture-wise. Caution -- a bit saltier than it looks. The bell peppers in particular were seasoned spectacularly. 4.5/5 Dry fried green beans - a delicious option for vegetables to add to the table. Most people will enjoy this one in my opinion. A bit more crunch than I expected, which is not a bad thing. 4/5 Double cooked pork - I've never seen it cooked this way, and am not a fan. I'm used to a more oily version of this dish. It contained a bunch of dried and crunchy... yams? Potatoes? Overall, the dish was mainly crunch with no flavor, and contained a relatively small amount of pork. 1/5

Room for about 50 people. Vibes: Welcome to North Park, a lot of eateries and bars to hop around. It's a pretty hip place with constant traffic. The spot itself is Retro Chinese-American aesthetic with a modern twist. Think red lighting, plants, and a playlist that keeps the energy up. It's one of those spots that feels trendy but still approachable--good for dates or catching up with friends. FOOD / DRINKS Mayo Walnut Shrimp (Recommend) This is one of their standout dishes--and for good reason. Crispy shrimp coated in that creamy, slightly sweet sauce with candied walnuts. It hits that crunchy + rich + sweet combo really well and is easily one of the safer bets on the menu. Green Beans (Recommend) Simple but solid. Good balance to the heavier shrimp--fresh, slightly savory/umami making it a nice side to round things out. Ginger Lemonade (Recommend) A refreshing sip with a nice bite of ginger. SERVICE Friendly and efficient, especially considering how busy it gets. Food comes out fairly quick once you're seated. TL;DR OVERALL 4 stars. Steady prices, good food, and good choices. Fun spot with strong vibes and solid Chinese-American comfort food. It leans more elevated takeout-style than traditional, but that's kind of the appeal. The courteous waitress guided us to our table and brought the menu and water right away. For this visit, we ordered the following dishes: West Lake Minced Beef Soup: The portion was large enough for 6 people. The lightly starched broth was nicely seasoned with hint of white pepper. In the soup, there were bits of minced beef, chopped green onion, and stirred egg whites. The simplistic soup was warm, velvety, and pleasantly flavored. 3 Item BBQ Combo (House Special Chicken, Roasted Duck, and Pork Belly): The house special chicken was nicely steamed, lightly seasoned, and with beautiful gelatinous skin. The roasted duck pieces were plump, with crispy skin and succulent meat. The pork belly had crispy thick skin, and tender meat with nice rendered fat without being overly greasy. Walnut Shrimp: The portion was quite generous for the price. The lightly battered shrimps had a nice firm texture and were covered with mayonnaise and sprinkled with sweetened and crispy walnuts. What a beautiful blend of taste and aroma. Left the restaurant heart-warmed and extremely satisfied. Highly recommended.

I was born and raised in LA, so I've had a lot of Chinese food growing up, and I wasn't expecting to be this surprised--but I really was. I ordered the black bean eggplant and the salt and pepper chicken wings. The wings are what they're known for, but I have to start with the eggplant because it completely caught me off guard. It wasn't mushy at all--crispy on the outside, perfectly cooked on the inside, and coated in sauce without losing its texture. Every bite had depth and balance, not just saltiness. I actually meant to start with the wings, but the eggplant was so good I ended up eating half of it before even getting to them. By that point I was already getting full, but I still made sure to finish the wings--and I'm honestly excited to take the rest of the eggplant home as leftovers. By the time I got to the wings, I understood why they're popular--crispy, flavorful, and super satisfying--but what stood out to me was how both dishes complemented each other. One rich and layered, the other crisp and bright. I never got tired of eating, which honestly says a lot. I even told the staff how much I enjoyed the food and they thought I was joking, but I meant every word in saying I thought it was comparable, if not better then the food I've had in Chinatown in LA. Really glad I came here and the next time I have a chance to come back down to SD I definitely will come back here and that's not negotiable for me

However, the initial staff gentlemen was completely rude about it and ignored us as we sought to understand. Finally, a second female server came and heard our concerns regarding the false advertisement and unclear messaging. She was able to provide us the price we thought this was for based on Menu selection. All in all - I don't recommend the AYCE option. I think it would be important to make a distinction that AYCE clearly on the menu and at the front - AYCE means each individual selects ONE entree (which is a one small portion) and the AYCE component of the deal is ONLY for the side buffet.

Yes, there's a wait just like at any spot that's actually worth it. The place is small, so come…read morewith a little patience or just order to go if you're in a rush. We tried a few dishes. The green onion pancake was crispy and golden on the outside with flaky, layered bites. The sweet corn with chili dumplings had that perfect balance- slightly sweet, a little heat, and super juicy filling. The green pepper with corn dumplings had a light crunch and savory flavor. The standout for me was the Beijing zhajiang noodles. That was probably my favorite. Noodles were perfection. The owner was kind. You can tell it's a family-run spot, especially with the sweetest little girl helping out, which made the whole experience feel even more genuine and homey. We were seated in about 20 minutes, which honestly isn't bad at all. Free parking lot. Will be back soon.

Came for Mother's Day. It's in a nice little shopping center. There's a good amount of parking, but…read morethe restaurant itself is quite small. So there is a line that lines up quickly and hopefully hopefully you get a seat. I don't think the biggest table can be more than four people. There's also a kiosk where you can order to go. The menu is very simple. I feel like the dumplings are actually a great price for how many pieces you get. Service was fine. The food was good but nothing solid out to us, I could taste the freshness in the dumplings but maybe because they're boiled, they were a bit bland to us. Definitely needed the sauce with it. Maybe we will be back to try something different. Overall 3/5 for the dishes we ordered that evening
