Veggie and Tofu Pho

This is my favorite pho restaurant in San Diego- my partner and I have been dozens of times! I love the tofu and veggie pho. The family that runs the restaurant is absolutely lovely and kind. I highly recommend Pho Fusion!

Rare steak and brisket pho

I got Pho Fusion takeout for my family a few days ago. It was my first time trying it out. The restaurant is tucked away in a strip mall on Clairemont Mesa Blvd. in between Fan Diego and Brother's Mexican. The restaurant was very spacious inside, with plenty of booths. The owners were quite friendly people who made our 3-pho, 8-spring rolls meal fairly quickly. The takeout pho came with big bags of bean sprouts, basil, jalapeños, hoisin, and sriracha. I personally thought the pho broth was a bit lacking. I've been to Vietnam, and eaten pho all over Southern California, and there a a number of places I think have richer broth. A good pho broth takes 24 hours to cook. But that's not to say it was bad by any means--more middle-of-the-road. However, a highlight for me was the brisket. If I come back, I'll probably try a purely brisket bowl. It was pretty flavorful. The spring rolls were great. Owners are great, service is great, the restaurant is spacious and welcoming, and the pho is pretty good. It's worth checking out I think--opt for the brisket! Update: Came back today after a year or so away. I ordered online and they let me eat it in store, which was nice. I had the rare steak and brisket. I now can appreciate this pho with the owner's original comments about the broth in mind. The broth is lighter and clearer, so it misses some of that "traditional complexity" you might find in pho bowls across Vietnam. However, you can still tastes hints of anise and other spices, and it feels super clean. It's a lighter vibe that still carries the hallmarks of long-stewed pho broths. Come try it out!

Pork chop rice plate

Came here on a weekday around 3pm. Not too busy, only a couple other tables occupied. We were seated, ordered, and food came out within several minutes. The family enjoyed their popcorn chicken. The menu says it's spicy, but the spice was verrry mild. Still with good flavor and crispy. The egg rolls were hot and came with the typical lettuce and mint. Their nuoc Cham (dipping sauce) is definitely more on the mild side. The flavor not too powerful. I got the chicken vermicelli bowl. It's very simple : noodles, lettuce, grilled chicken, and pickled carrots/radish.. each ingredient tasted simple, fresh and 'clean'. The amount of chicken was also pretty generous. I like eating it egg rolls , yum! The boneless pork chop rice place came with a fried egg, was also a generous and tasty portion. The restaurant is on the smaller size , but still with a decent amount of tables.. everything was clean, and somewhat minimal. Prices are also affordable, if not a bit cheaper than other like restaurants. The gentleman working was the only one we saw. He was friendly and kept our waters filled.. he even offered to top off our own personal water bottle!

Great little hole in the wall - while small, it is bright, cheery, clean, and had great customer service. **they close at 7pm** (and closed Sun) It was my first time there and we were so busy catching up that I didn't realize the closing hours, and they were too kind to tell us they were closed until 730pm.. I got the pho #14 and was really pleased with all the pieces of meat. Broth was tasty on a cloudy day, tasted lighter than other places I've been and maybe slightly less depth, still delicious. Cons: regular size was filled to the brim and spilled once I was trying to add veggies and stir. Would love a bigger bowl Pros: good food, competitive prices, food came out fast. Parking lot available (small, space may very depending on time). Comfy booths available. I saw some banh mi (sp?) on the menu that I want to try too. I plan on going back for the pho too. Ready to put this in the rotation.

Great alternative that's not required to wait for a table. Atmosphere- climate was a bit warm. I like a restaurant that has a nice cool temperature climate especially when eating hot food. The egg rolls were delicious but the portion was on the smaller side. Had a large pho which the portion felt on the smaller side. The broth was on the savory pallet which I like but quite salty even for my taste. A solid place I'd come back to and give another try.

Came back in this place is still pretty solid. I will say that for the price and the amount food that you get and on top of that the service is five stars. I try their spicy chicken pho for the first time, and it was truly spicy and delicious. The place is always clean and bright, but I will say that on a rainy day this was really the thing we all needed. Once again, the service is great and the service is also fast.

If I had to put my rating into words, I would say this pho was almost there. In my opinion, the soup lacked the depth of some of the other local restaurants in the area. But when you add all of the spices and sides to the meal, they can even out a little bit, but what I would say is that this is a three out of five.

Stumbled upon Pho Fusion while I was waiting for my car to be service across the street. There was no one in the restaurant when we entered but we were quickly seated. The restaurant smelled of cleaning products, I'm sure they were wiping down the dining area. We sat down, looked at the menu and I ordered the Tai Sach (tripe and steak pho) with meatballs on the side and my daughter ordered the Tom Chien lan bot (popcorn chicken); it came with spicy mayo. We both enjoyed the popcorn chicken; it was crispy and had great flavor. The spicy mayo was a good dip for it. My tai sach pho was just okay, could use more flavor even when I flavored it with Saracha, satay etc. It wasn't spicy to me. Overall, I love the customer service here and the cleanliness of the restaurant. They have a restroom for customer use. Plenty of parking but it can be busy on the weekends. Accepts debit/credit/cash.

The family and I came out here for dinner the other night. There waiting for a table guaranteed Although the area is full of different choices we've always end up here for the no hassle! Come in and have a seat.

Bun thit nuong cha gio
Elisa L.

It was our first time at this place and we came around 5:30 pm on a Friday and were the only ones there but other parties came later. It's clean, spacious and modern inside with a good amount of seating. There was only one guy serving and doing it all and he was talkative and had a sense of humor! I ordered the bun thit nuong cha gio and enjoyed it! It was a huge portion and came with lots of vermicelli noodles, pork, egg rolls, and veggies (lettuce, cucumber, carrots, daikon, bean sprouts). All the ingredients balanced well together and were tasty and fresh. My sister and I both had lots of leftovers! Prices and portions are good and service is good as well. Overall, a solid Vietnamese spot and I would come back if I'm on the area.

Bun Thit Nuong Cha Gio ($14.75)

First time trying this place and the waiter had a great sense of humor lol. Expansive menu and I got the bun thit nuong cha gio which was a huge portion. Lots of egg rolls, pork, vermicelli and fresh veggies (cucumbers, daikon, carrots, lettuce, bean sprouts). My mom got the pho and said the noodles were a little soggy. Not my top choice but I would come back if I was in the area

Came here before, the pho is good and cheap but wouldn't say it's remarkable. The server was very attentive and the ambience was very vibe and chill. I came here to get the chuoi chien this time. Didn't expect it to come out wrapped up like a lumpia but it was very good. Drizzled in caramel and plated with whipped cream. Very delicious. The wrapper was flaky and I enjoy it a lot.

#21. Veggies (vegan) (no tofu)
Natalie A.

Its been hard to find a yummy, affordable, vegetarian pho in SD & stumbled on pho fusion. I saw great reviews and gave it a shot! I will say I totally thought I ordered the vegetarian pho with tofu but clearly did not see the other option. I think the veggies are great but would've preferred tofu. Broth is super filling and savory. Also worth noting that the man who helped me was very attentive and friendly. Perfect for a rainy day, will definitely come back!

Ask the Community - Pho Fusion

Does anyone know if Pho Fusion is under new ownership? I've been in regularly, but not in the past month and went in today and noticed some changes in decor and the flavor of the food...?

It's family owned, the son in law of the cook doesn't manage it anymore, the daughter of the cook does now. Still family owned and the food is great!

We sat inside, though there is also a lovely patio outside with umbrellas. The service was friendly and the restaurant was clean. It was a bit noisy inside since there isn't much to absorb the sound, so you may need to speak a little louder during conversation. I did find the lunch menu to be expensive. We came here to celebrate my sister's birthday, and everyone seemed happy with their dishes: a shrimp po' boy sandwich, pulled pork sandwich, and pasta with tomato cream sauce and shrimp. I ordered the chicken po' boy sandwich. The sandwiches were served with seasoned fries, but unfortunately the fries looked and tasted like they had been sitting for a a while--dry and not very fresh. My chicken po' boy was disappointing. The sandwich had tomatoes and some iceberg lettuce, but no sauce, which made it very plain. While the chicken itself was tender, it lacked flavor and the overall dish felt like it wasn't prepared with much care. For a $21.50 sandwich that was essentially a few pieces of chicken breast with tomatoes, lettuce, and old fries, it felt like an expensive mistake. Perhaps other dishes on the menu are excellent. However, having grown up with a father who was a top chef, I tend to notice when simple dishes--like sandwiches and fries--aren't executed well. These are usually some of the easiest things to get right, which made the experience even more disappointing for me.

The Hainanese Chicken Rice was tender and rich that the ginger sauce cut through, but the color was strikingly yellow. The Scallion Pancake was crispy on the edges, doughy in the center, and you only get one per order. The Shitake Mushroom Minced Pork had no drawbacks, and would come back just for this.
