Our families had a very pleasant experience at Chabaar. Pad see ew was perfect, the noodles were hot, chewy and tasty, mango curry was delicious, a little bit on the sugary side. We had 2 babies and I arranged the high chairs myself which I didn't mind, the server looked very busy by then. Chabaar is one of my favorite Thai places, not for the ambiance, which is rather pedestrian but because they have over many years produced a really authentic and consistent menu. For many years they occupied a detached building facing 7200 south. But a couple of years ago, they moved into the strip mall directly to the south of their original location. Their spice levels can be off the charts so I'd advise starting with a level 2 of spice. Otherwise the food can be overly spicy. I recently tried their Swai Choo Chee, a white fish in the catfish family. It was really flavorful and the curry in which it was served was a change from the usual green curry I typically order. The staff is friendly and very polite and being Thai natives, they know how to make the food correctly. I will continue to support Chabaar when I'm in Midvale and only wish it was in an area closer to my home. read more

We ordered our dinner at a level one and level two spicy (out of five as indicated by the menu.) The level one was barely edible and two was intolerably spicy. I promise I'm no weakling either, but level one I would expect to match sriracha levels and it wasn't even close. We're not coming back after this completely burned up. read more

Went here for a quick lunch and just had a couple of appetizers. I had the fresh spring rolls and the chicken satay. Both were fantastic! The ambiance was pleasant with fantastic service from my waitress. This one of four restaurants that are from the same chef. Chabbar is not only my favorite Thai restaurant, they're my favorite restaurant all around. I almost always get the massaman curry with tofu, add broccoli and spicy level 2, and it's always perfect and delicious! Their curry puffs and fresh spring rolls(add avocado) are wonderful appetizers, and the dipping sauces have such a great flavors. Staff here are always very kind and welcoming. The whole restaurant has a really nice atmosphere and the decor is beautiful. I 100% recommend Chabbar to everyone who loves authentic, flavorful and delicious Thai food. read more

The Good: I was looking for some Thai tea that didn't have diary and I was so happy to find Chabaar had one with coconut milk instead. It's pretty good but I recommend half sweet. Otherwise it's extremely sweet. I have had their fried tofu and it's good. The staff were very kind and friendly. The Bad: I was so happy to see lots of items on their menu with a vegetarian or vegan sign next to them. I asked the staff about it and she said they are really good with making things vegan or vegetarian friendly. I was feeling excited since it's hard to find options in Utah. I ordered the drunken noodles with tofu and told her to make it vegan. She confirmed what I said. I got takeout so it wasn't until I got home that I realized my noodles were not vegan. The noodles tasted and smelled like meat. I even found small pieces of meat in my noodles. I was so disappointed and could not eat the food. I'm pretty sure they aren't cleaning their pans and using the same oil they used to fry up the meat dishes. So disappointing. Vegans and vegetarians be cautious. read more

This is one of my favorite places to get curry or noodle dishes. The food is not super oily, and the flavors are really good. One of my go to dishes is the yellow curry, my husband loves the pad see ew, and the drunken noodles, and I have never gone wrong with any of their soups. The dishes are generous, fresh, and hearty, and the staff is very helpful when navigating the menu. Their new location is much smaller and very quaint. Drove by this restaurant randomly one day and decided to try it for lunch 2 days later. Zero regrets. Ample parking and the dining area was large. Very calm and relaxing atmosphere which I love. The fresh spring rolls were thin, but there were 6 pieces (3 cut into halves). I love how proportional each bite was. Not too much or too little of any ingredient. Loved how there's a mint leaf in every single half piece. Peanut sauce was a bit on the sweet side, as I'd some sweet chili was added into the sauce. It gave a nice Thai kick to it. Beef pho was generous. There were over 12 large pieces of beef, and tons of bean sprouts were provided. Lots of broth leftover and the noodles didn't soak it all up, making the end of the meal very enjoyable. The broth was also very flavorful on its own, no hoisin or sirarcha needed. The pho was very good, even better than pho restaurants that specialize in pho. There was so much food, I literally ate for two! The waiter and waitress were very polite and kind. They packed up my leftover spring rolls nicely. I would 100% return and want to try everything on their menu! read more

Chabaar is my favorite Thai place in the Salt Lake City area. The food has always been good and never let me down. I tried the chicken satay as an appetizer it was really good. For main course I got the massaman chicken curry pot pie, heat level two. I LOVE the curry pot pie! You will have to wait a little longer because they have to bake it, but it's worth the wait. I have had it a couple different times and have never been disappointed. The service has always been good and ambiance is casual and friendly. This is one of those places where the second you walk in you know the food is going to be authentic and dang good. Yesterday I was going on Reddit to try a new Thai place in Salt Lake City and Chabaar had the most upvotes so we went for dinner. We were sat right away, the food came out pretty quickly, and our waters never went empty so the service was awesome. Let's just say this place lives up to its website url which is "bestthaifoodinutah.com". The Pad Thai was perfectly cooked, not too dry, and I love places that let you pick a spice level. Their chicken dish was also delicious and all the food was very well priced for what you got. We will 100% be coming back here!! read more

I used to stop in here years ago when they first opened. I would always get a to go order, usually their cashew chicken. The restaurant was always full with people, something has happened along the way. There was only one other customer when we walked in to the dark and dreary lobby. I was very hesitant to eat here anyway, because of the very low healthcare score. (Many health violations.) But this is where everyone agreed to meet up. I couldn't decide between the cashew chicken, and the lettuce wraps. Despite the waiter not knowing the menu very well, (he had a hard time explaining the lettuce wraps) I went on memory of the lettuce wraps I've eaten before in other restaurants, and ordered them. What I got I wouldn't call lettuce wraps but a put together "yourself" salad. I was so disappointed. The leafy lettuce was dripping wet with water, but that wasn't the worst part. The lettuce makes it impossible to put the ingredients on the lettuce. It was a hot mess. I tried to make a couple wraps the best I could, but ending up taking the rest home to finish eating it as a salad. Also, The meat was very strange for the wraps, they were very tough strips of beef. (I think it was beef.) Someone had ordered the cashew chicken and I was able to have a taste of that. Serving sizes have dwindled since I was here last. Only about a cup of rice came with the cashew chicken, unlike other Thai restaurants that give you quite a lot of rice. It would be nice if while you are sitting at one of the booths by the windows waiting for your food to arrive, you could see out the windows of our beautiful mountains without having to look past all the dirt and grime. Not appetizing at all. Makes one wonder what the kitchen looks like. read more

Not good. When we walked in we stood at counter and waited a while to be acknowledged by the lady behind it. She seemed very busy - we noticed she was waiting tables as well as working the hostess stand, and ringing up tabs with the help of one bus boy. The restaurant was about half full, and she asked us to wait for a table. We waited about 5 minutes before being directed to choose from a few open tables she gestured at, the one we chose had dirty seats with food them. We waited about 10 minutes before a the same lady visited us to take our drink, appetizer, and food order at the same time. We got chicken wings, grilled chicken (they were out of grilled steak), and a grilled steak salad. The wings seemed old and dried out, accompanied by a bowl of hot sauce that seemed straight from the jar (it didn't taste Thai at all?), the chicken was a very generous portion, it looked like most of a chicken, but was very bland. My steak "salad" was more of a warm soup with most of the meat, lettuce, and fresh vegetables submerged in a sort of broth that was a bit tangy, and a bit smoky (in a cigarette way) flavored, I couldn't quite place it. Whatever it was, I couldn't keep eating it. Both main dishes were served with sticky rice that was over cooked, lumpy, and gluey. I feel so badly about mentioning the poor service since this place was obviously understaffed and the lady serving us was drowning in work, but if we needed something we eventually just started getting up and finding things ourselves - utensils, napkins, takeout containers, etc. We debated whether or not to ask that some things be taken off our bill, but felt so badly for the woman working we paid and left most of our food there, I took the chicken with me to try to salvage it in my own kitchen. Overall I'm extremely disappointed, especially since Chabaar has rave Yelp reviews. I am sure I had an exceptionally bad experience here, or didn't order the right dish, or should have gotten takeout - or something. I don't know that I want to try this again any time soon. Food here is excellent but the wait to get your food is pretty long. It took about an hour for us to get our food however it was worth the wait! There was only one lady waitressing many tables so I understand why the wait was long. I know staffing is hard due to Covid so I was not too concerned about the wait. She was nice and doing her best to get to everyone. We got the fresh spring rolls and curry puffs for appetizer and both were excellent. The fresh spring rolls were very fresh tasting! I got the ginger soup for my entree and it was very big and very delicious, my only feedback is that I wish the chunks of ginger were chopped into smaller pieces. My boyfriend got the Pad Thai and loved it. He loves super spicy food and got a level 2-3 spice and he said it was pretty hot. read more

This is my favorite Thai spot in Utah county. It's unassuming from the outside and resembles an old village inn diner type place but, the food and staff on the inside are authentic and amazing!! We always get the Tom kha gai to start off the meal and use it as an appetizer for the table. The broth is a savory coconut flavor. We like to order dishes to share with the table so we tried the yellow curry at a level 1 spice (even if you like spicy food, I wouldn't recommend ordering anything above a 1 on spice if you want to enjoy your meal.) we also tried the Thai fried rice at a level 1 spice, the cashew stir fry, the Thai basil stir fry, the Kow soi curry (the table favorite), and pad see ew with beef. There is a friendly middle aged man who has been the server there for years. He knows the menu like the back of his hand and has great recommendations when you want to try something new. Several of our friends desired to gather one evening at a restaurant! Because all enjoy Thai cuisine, we pondered options in the central-south of the Salt Lake valley. We are aware of several very popular and good Thai restaurants. Our deciding factor for our choice was avoiding a long wait! We have eaten at Chabaar's in Midvale many times, never having to wait. Also, they accept reservations, so I made a reservation for our group. I like the central location and the abundance and ease of parking! The exterior is well marked and inviting! Since our last visit, they have made some interior changes, probably to make the interior more efficient and economical! However, the interior, for me, is less inviting and appears unfinished, needing some embellishments. We were seated upon arrival and received immediate attention! Because we were a diverse group of, we requested some time to peruse and discuss the menu. My wife and I desired to defer to the others for our selections! We commented that we had always enjoyed what we ordered here! All agree to "family style," enabling us to sample many varieties! We solicited suggestions and comments from the waiter. He was very helpful, offering several suggestions from the different options! As an appetizer, we started with "spring rolls with avocado! They were a hit with everyone! Then, we were served "pineapple curry", "Pad Ki Mao with chicken," Kow Soi with chicken," "papaya salad," "eggplant stir fry with beef," "Tom Kha Gai with chicken," "massam curry with chicken," and finally, "Mango with sticky rice!" Each and every person expressed great enjoyment and satisfaction with every dish! I greatly enjoyed the meal but the mango and sticky rice was not as good as has previously been! I heartily recommend this restaurant for Thai food. It has a much more casual atmosphere than before and is very informal! I suspect some of these changes are to survive the present economy! I greatly appreciate what this restaurant offers and what they contribute to our valley! read more

Takeout win! It's long been documented my love for kow soi, and this is an excellent dish to get for takeout. It's like if pad thai and curry had a baby, added lime juice, pickled things, and a few crispy noodle. It's love. I had an evening planned for Thai food, and this is where we ended up, just to order, grab the food, and take it to the park. We found the order bundled up nicely, with plenty of napkins and silverware (hooray for getting this right!) and dug right into the kow soi and yellow curry. It's a really wonderful dish, and I think going mild is the right way to do it. Chabaar and all of the other restaurants in this family will give it to you way spicy if you ask them to, but thankfully they'll also keep it tame for when you just want to enjoy your meal at the park without challenging those taste buds. read more

The food at Chabaar is very good. It is very fresh and most dishes have a vegan option. Tried the mango curry and it was excellent! As each dish is prepared fresh and individually they can be quite slow. At $13 to $16 per dish I was very disappointed that they charged $2 for plain rice to accompany dishes that always have come with rice at any restaurant I've been to. Being about 1 cup of cooked rice for 2 people, when more was requested you guessed it, another $2 bucks! Not good! read more

I've been going to Chabaar for years and this was my most disappointing service. Went there last night with friends. Chabaar moved locations since my last visit, they are now located in a strip mall spot behind the restaurant they used to be in. The new location is smaller. But nice enough. Not suitable for larger parties that I could tell. My disappointment was in the food and service. I was there with friends, we were on separate checks. I ordered curry duck to eat there with a 2.5 spice level which is usually really spicy, makes my eyes water a bit and my face hot. Not this time. Barely had any heat to it and the duck quality wasn't good, wasn't trimmed well so some pieces were really fatty and others were extra chewy. It's usually much better than that! The service was substandard also, waitress wasn't personable at all. I kept trying to get her to take my to go order, she told me to wait a couple of times so we had to wait for it to be ready after we were done eating, which I was trying to avoid. The to go order also wasn't the right spice level, may have been a 1.5 at best, not 2.5 as it should have been. I ordered larb which they put the hot meat on top of the lettuce so it was wilted by the time it got home. They should package the lettuce or the meat separately to go so that doesn't happen on to go orders, but my friend also didn't appreciate that his larb he ate at the restaurant had the meat piled on top of the lettuce instead of next to it, like most places do, so his lettuce was also wilted at the restaurant. After our meal, I went to the restroom after putting my debit card on the tray to pay my check and then came back to finish payment on their automated machine. After I was done making my payment my friend told me the waitress had tried to get him to fill out the tip and sign for me in my absence while I was gone, he refused of course because it wasn't his card and she knew we were all on separate checks!! Had I known that before I paid she would've gotten no tip! I hope management trains their staff to clean up their act. I haven't seen her there before. If I do again I hope she is more congenial and knows better than to treat her customers the way she did yesterday. read more

Chabaar's sister restaurant, Tea Rose Diner, is one of our absolute favorites. The food here is very similar and did not disappoint. They were extremely understaffed which led to long wait times, about 45 minutes from when we ordered to when our food came. The lone waitress was apologetic and gracious about the situation and we were understa My Pad See-Ew was delicious as always, though I wished there was more sauce. (The flavor was still present but I like dipping all the veggies in that stuff too!) My partner ordered Panang curry which was a very wise decision. It was exquisite. All hail Thai basil. It's a little dark inside but the ambience is nice and has personality. Kind of has an 80's feel thanks to the giant dividing window wall that separates the dining area into 2 sections. There were 2 large groups at the time we were eating which was fine but we wished they would've put that wall to use and separated the bigger parties from the regular patrons as it got pretty noisy. Overall, we were glad we came and will be back for sure. Hopefully the staffing situation gets better so they can cut down those wait times as I would love to continue supporting them and want to get their delicious food into my mouth as quick as possible! read more
