Excellent Thai food! I don't know what they do with their Tom Kai soup, but I still dream about it.

For a take out only place, ChaiYo Thai Togo was a hit for me. It's a true cellar dweller location at the bottom of a Highland Drive strip mall in Millcreek. It's a little creepy walking down to it, but the food made it worthwhile. I had ordered the Pad Gar Pow with rice. I was handed a rather heavy paper bag containing my order by a pleasant young woman at the counter. I was impressed by the quantity of food and even more by the savory flavors as I ate it after arriving at my destination. The flavor of Thai basil predominated and it had just the right spice level for me. The vegetables were just a bit overcooked for my preference but other than that all was great. I felt that the meal was a good value and a healthy alternative to the fast food joints that are around the area. I'll certainly be back to the other dishes at ChaiYo Thai Togo. read more

Some of the best thai food in salt lake, it's become a staple for my wife and I. While most other thai restaurants a a bit off on their flavors or ingredients (too thin, or not chewy enough of noodles in a pad si ew, for example), this place nails just about everything. The basil chicken's among our favorites, but just about anything you get is gonna be good, and not to mention portioned for a giant - expect at least a second meal's worth of leftovers. I ordered ahead and my food was hot and ready when I got there. This place is easy to miss. You see the sign by the road but then it's not there? It is- just down some stairs. It's take-out only so we went to the nearest park. I tried my food and it was... fine? Not exciting. Not terrible. Pretty bland. I ordered it without chilis so does the flavor totally depend on that? Was it the wind drying the noodles out and prematurely cooking them? This place has such good reviews so I was really surprised by how boring the food was. Absolute worst Thai food I've ever had. Blown away that this place has a single good review. Pad Thai is not supposed to taste like watered down Tabasco sauce. Pad See Ew was so salty and used the wrong noodle. Fried things lacked flavor. Sweet and sour sauce was as thin as water. Go anywhere else. read more

Update: bumping down from 3 to 1. Not only is it not the tastiest joint it may also require you to permanently relocate to your bathroom. The heaps of leftover are going right to the trash...if I ever make it out of the bathroom. Pray for me people. Pray for me. Visiting a new Thai place I like to sample the staples so I went with Massaman and Dandan noodles. Both dishes were a zero on the heat scale so much so that they were missing some of the standard flavor profiles . The massaman was really sweet and lack that rich nuttiness that generally makes it irresistible. The dandan noodles were really dry and very sour. I added a healthy helping of chili oil at home and that made it much more palatable. They do offer hearty family style portions so if you're good with beefing up your flavors with condiments you could have something decent. Presentation was clean and I appreciated the more sustainable packaging options. read more

ChaiYo Thai Togo is a solid place to order from if you're looking for a variety of Thai food and huge portions. I ordered Pad Thai with Shrimp and was super surprised to find the portion was enough for 2 - 3 meals! Definitely some good value here. The flavor was just ok for me, but I haven't eaten much Pad Thai, so maybe I just don't like the dish in general as opposed to how they make it at ChaiYo. Not bad though! This was a new result on my restaurant search tonight and happened to be exactly what I was craving! I had a hankering for pad see ew and yellow curry chicken, and that is exactly what I ordered, plus some pot stickers, and the mango sticky rice looked too good to pass up. Everything tastes great! The yellow curry has a little bit of a kick to it (like a medium salsa) even though we ordered it mild. This is just a little kitchen that prepares food to go. What a great time to capitalize on people ordering takeout instead of dining in! My 9yo daughter, who didn't have dinner with us this time, tried a few bites and begged me to order again another night. So I would definitely recommend it! Ok, I just tried the coconut pudding that she threw in with my order... Whaaaat? Never thought I was a coconut fan, but this is So. Good. If you like pannacotta or flan, you will love this. Best Thai food I've had here in Utah. Ordered the garlic steak, pad see ew, and coconut shrimp. Everything was hot, super tasty, and authentic tasting. They put some super cute, Halloween/Pac Man themed cut veggies on top of our entrees which was nice touch. Super easy and convenient pick up with COVID; called our order in and it was ready in 20 minutes. The restaurant itself was a little off the beaten bath in a mostly empty strip mall, downstairs, but who doesn't love a hole in the wall? There are plenty of signs telling you where to go so it was pretty easy to find. The person who checked me out was wearing a mask and social distancing which made me feel safe. Solid Thai food with plenty of vegan options. This is a take out or delivery only restaurant. We ordered the curry puffs as an appetizer, Fried rice with tofu (no egg) and veggies and a masaman curry. All we're really good.
