Love hole in the wall places like this with amazing food! This one's too good to keep all to myself! I had to share! We were grabbing a snack in the late afternoon so we only ordered the Pani Puri, Aloo Tikka Chaat, and an order of samosa (2). MAN, it's super filling and the flavor and spice was spot on! The Pani puri is like a little party in your mouth, really refreshing like little pillows filled with joy! I can't really describe it any better. I couldn't stop eating the samosa and of course love the two sauces that come with it (the brown and green sauces, I wish I knew what they were called). My favorite had to have been the aloo tikka chaat. My first time having chaat so I didn't know what it was. I'm definitely ordering it again next time! Very filling! This place is no frills. Everything is served on styrofoam or paper plate. I love that there was no fighting any crowds and it was nice and quiet. I was intrigued by the menu and finally gave it a try a few weeks ago. The fare is Indian street food and some of the best dishes are the most simple - chaat (bowls with legumes and sauce) and breads with chutney and sambar (dipping sauce). You can order at the counter either through the host or with a kiosk. I chose the host and he could not have been more welcoming, helpful and gracious to a non-Indian. My choices were medu vada (a savory donut shaped bread)and and aloo tiki chaat (potato and pea dumplings with chickpeas in sauce). The host directed me to the dipping sauce bar which also has extra plates, utensils, a hand washing station and water/cups. Everything was tasty as the spice level was right in my wheelhouse (at least one sneeze and no less than 3 napkins). They have Limca and Thumbs-Up which are Indian versions of lemon-lime soda and cola. The chutney and sambar were so good I ordered idly (rice cakes that are ideal for dipping). Ambiance would have warranted a 4 star rating in a perfectly objective world, but this is a place to get simple food in a simple setting and thus the furnishings and decorations were perfect. read more

A place to grab that chaat or dosa as its named. Loved the food on the menu. We ordered a mirchi bhajji, Pani Puri, dhai Puri, bhel Puri and a mango lassi. The order came out pretty quick not much wait time. The mirchi bhajji was delicious however was served cold. The mango lassi was decent. However the chaat dishes were too spicy for our palate. I'm not sure what experiences other reviewers have had before but I'm shocked by how poor the comments are! For context, I am a dosa fanatic. I've had Dosa at 30+ different restaurants and that's what I came in for today and what my review is for. I ordered a paper Mysore masala dosa and received a perfectly crisp and perfectly spiced dosa, with a large amount of filling (compared with my personal experience of ordering the same thing countless times before). It was delicious! The Sambar was tasty, as were the two chutneys I was given. No self-serve chutney/sambar bar with COVID-19. They certainly weren't the best I've ever had but they were tasty. As for the atmosphere and service... it's fine! Let's set the expectations folks... this is a counter service snack bar essentially. Based on reviews it looks like people are coming in expecting an Applebee's-like dining experience when this place should be on the expectation scale of McDonalds. Given that perspective, taking into account the service, price, quality of food, and value, I believe this place deserves 5-stars and wish it was close enough for me to come in on the regular! read more

It was a good dosa place. I enjoyed the masala dosa and the best part of it all was unlimited Sambar and coconut chutney if dining in. I had some leftovers and I wish I could take some sambar and chutney home but there were no kids for the containers. Guys, if you have no idea how good South Indian food should taste, you will be fine with this place. On the other hand, if you care about good flavor then read on. We just returned from this restaurant so my memory is fresh. We ordered four items: Bhelpuri, Mysore Masala Dosa, Pongal and Coffee. Mysore Masala Dosa: The dosa itself was okay, but the masala filling, oh :-(. It's supposed to have potato, onion, green chili, mustard seed, curry leaf, and asafoetida at the very least. But this was just potato and peas with NO SPICING!! Absolutely horrendous. F Grade for the filling. Pongal: By far the worst item: Good pongal is supposed to have a flavor of moong dal, cumin, black pepper, curry leaves and ghee. The only thing we could taste was BUTTER, and it was floating at the bottom. Pongal is not supposed to have raw BUTTER in it!! Horrible. Grade F. Sides: Chutney: Just tasted of coconut and salt. No mustard seed, curry leaf, etc. C grade. Sambar: Tasted just like lentil soup. C grade. Bhelpuri: This was the only item which was acceptable. B Grade. Coffee: I didn't taste it, but it smelled like instant coffee and was way too strong. Complementary chai: OK. B grade, but too sweet. It was filled with sweet yogurt and nothing else. No spices on top. No cilantro. I also got the ragda Pattie's and again, no toppings. I ordered a big take-out meal from Chaat 'n' Dosa, and eveyrthing was incredible! If (like me) you're not super familiar with all the varieties of southern Indian food, you may need to ask for help or do a bit of googling to navigate the menu. (I was lucky enough to visit with a friend who lived in India for a few years and knows her way around the menu well.) I tried masala dosa (thin savory crepe stuffed with spiced potatoes), cheese mysore dosa (same crepe with spicy seasoning and cheese), chole bhature (fry bread with a sweet, delicious chickpea curry served with it), aloo chaat (potato patties topped with really good - spicy! chickpeas and other delicious condiments), and pani puri (little round crispy puffs with fillings; you pour the green herbed water in before eating it). Everything was *excellent!* All of this cost about $30 and was enough to feed me and my husband for two meals easily. Maybe I'm not a connoisseur given that there are a fair number of middling or negative reviews, but I thought everything was really fantastic. The whole restaurant is vegetarian; if you're vegan, ask for what is suitable (since a lot of food is made with ghee or yogurt, which has dairy). I'm already dreaming of eating more of those dosas again soon! read more

Since Frisco has lots of Indian restaurants, we specifically looked for a southern Indian place. First off, they have a wash basin in the dinning area common in India to wash hands before and after eating. They not only have dosa but idli also. This is a rice based cake commonly eaten at breakfast in India. Potato dosa was great. As in their name, we had chaat also. This is a no nonsense place with good food and very reasonable prices. Lots of choices of South Indian and Bombay type food at finally just the right prices. Had their Pani Puri, Masala Dosa, Aloo Tiki Chaat, each one of those was excellent. The green water for the Pani Puri is not meant for sensitive teeth since it was a bit cold. Their filter coffee did not seem to be of the South Indian standard. The sambhar was spicy but tasteless, the Masala Dosa tasted like I was easting American style mashed potatoes. The chat had no flavor was just yogurt with a special appearance by sonth (tamarind). The chole tasted boxed. And the person taking the order was rude. He asked for my name, I gave it, he got it wrong, so I corrected it (they call out your name, so you wanna make sure you're getting your order and not someone else's) - he disregarded it and got annoyed. Came here randomly because a few friends wanted Indian food. They have a fairly decent menu with all veg options. We ordered quite a few things to try out and enjoyed most of them. The pani puri, North Indian thali (has so many sides that it comes with!), bhel puri and sweet lassi were among the ones we really liked. The dosas are good but need more stuffing. They have a small portion of the menu that is available only after 4pm but they were nice enough to let me order the pakoras I wanted (which is on that menu). Service was nice, friendly and fast. Spotted this place from the corner of my eye leaving Krogers, figured why not try it! Entering this place, it is pretty low key, simple, and everything on the menu was $4.99 and under. It is a clean place and the staff is pretty helpful too. They have a self serve sambhar, chutney, and utensil area which is in great shape. The food was good, especially when taking the price into consideration. The masala dosa itself was pretty flat though, not as filled up as they usually are. The chinese bhel was a bit on the soggy side, not as crisp, but great flavor! The last item we tried was the uttapam, which was average (not bad, just nothing that special about it). Overall I would go there again if I want Indian food thats quick and cheap. read more
