Cha Menya is a nice little ramen spot on northern blvd in Bayside. There is a parking spot but it's only holds about 5 cars and you'll be blocking the way of those parked before you. But once you're inside, there's seats for all party sizes and the interior is very modern wood aesthetic. Buuuut onto the food! This place has things like matcha ramen but I didn't get that. Instead I got the Tsukemen. 4.5/5. They have a very generous amount of noodles. The pork was cooked perfectly and just melts in your mouth. And then the dipping broth, so flavorful. But at times a bit too salty for my taste but I can work around that :)) I also got the rose matcha latte because the sign outside enticed me but I was disappointed. It tasted 90% milk with very little matcha flavor. The little bits of red bean did not add anything to it. But we end this review with something good. And that something good is the chestnut Mont Blanc. I can't pretend like I can describe this dessert but it was VERY VERY GOOD. Chestnut flavor came through along with the ice cream and cream. Cha Menya is a must-try if you love ramen and want to try some interesting broth options. Though it is located in the outskirts of Queens in Little Neck, Cha Menya is definitely worth the trek as they have great appetizers and ramen options that are hard to get elsewhere in Queens like tsukemen and their green tea ramens (matcha and hojicha). They even have a wagyu ramen, which is a rarity even at ramen shops in Manhattan. The appetizers I tried were the karaage and the fried enoki mushrooms, as I have heard good things about both. The karaage came out piping hot, which was great as the batter was still crispy on the outside while the chicken was still juicy and tender on the inside. With a bit of citrus after squeezing the lemon slice, the karaage was the perfect start to my meal as it was savory and flavorful. The spicy mayo dipping sauce was a great complement as well since it added a little bit of heat. The fried enoki mushrooms were something I had never had before, but they were excellent, as they were light and crispy! A lemon is also provided if you wanted to add some citrus to it. I also had the tsukemen, which is a dipping ramen, where the noodles and other ingredients are provided separately from the broth. First thing I noticed is the excellent presentation, as the toppings were stacked on top of the noodles, which looked so appetizing. The tsukemen broth looked mesmerizing, as I can just tell how savory the pork broth was. A nice sprinkle of black pepper was added on top as well for some more flavor. The staff told me that the broth was a bit salty, hence why the ramen was meant for dipping, and though it was a bit too salty, it was really flavorful and worked perfectly with the noodles and toppings. The noodles were still springy and chewy, as they were perfect for slurping along with the pork broth. I never had spinach in my ramen, but that and the green onions provide a nice crunch in comparison to the softer egg and pork. The ajitama egg was amazing, as it was a perfect soft-boiled egg that had plenty of flavor and worked great with the broth. The pork cha siu was absolutely divine, as the pork had the perfect proportion of meat and fat, which was practically glistening and it definitely had a lot of umami in there. Dipping both the egg and pork into the broth practically made for an umami bomb that I did not want to miss out on! The hospitality was top-notch as well, as the staff made sure we got everything we needed and graciously poured water throughout our meal even without us asking. She even brought out some homemade spicy pepper topping in case we wanted to add some heat to our ramen. Considering how many diners there were and the small number of staff, I was thoroughly impressed at how we got everything we ordered so fresh and in a timely manner. Cha Menya is a hidden gem in the far east of Queens and if you are a ramen aficionado, this is definitely a must-try. I've rarely liked restaurant ramen, barring Ichiran ramen in Japan. Most of the time I find it oddly unsatisfying paying 16 dollars for a bowl of noodles that are only slightly better than 50 cent ramen. But this was not the case with this restaurant! Priced decently at around 16 dollars a bowl, Cha Menya offers two very interesting ramen bowls - Matcha and Hojicha ramen. I ordered the Hojicha ramen on this occasion. The tea taste goes oddly well with a savory broth and was unexpectedly...really good. It offers a roasted flavor that combines well with a salty flavor. Additionally, the pork slices were generous and very tender/delicious. There was a good balance of vegetables in the dish, and the tea eggs were amazing, probably the best I've had. The chicken karaage was also crunchy on the outside and tender soft on the inside. This was definitely one of the most unique ramen experiences I've had, and the price of the bowl is reflected well in the strong personality of the hojicha ramen. As a side note, I did taste some of my friends' Tsukemen ramen and it wasn't tooo special, maybe even a bit heavy for my taste. Heard about this place from a friend. Definitely was interested in their tea infused ramen. If you head down Bell Blvd, Nippon Cha does something similar with their tea infused ramen. But this, man oh man this is much more unique. We arrived a little after 8pm because one of us had to work late. The place was packed which was a good sign and we waited maybe about 15 minutes since we had a party of 7. We were the last ones out by the time closing came around, so thank you staff for accomodating us until the end! We ordered the fried enoki which was eaten up so quickly I forgot to take a photo of it. Definitely order it. We also ordered the Karaage which was very solid. One of my friends ordered the tsukemen. The flavor profile of that is pretty similar the broth of Tabetomo all the way in East Village. Will definitely have it here since it is much closer than the city. I ordered the Hojicha Ramen because I was curious on the flavor and how it paired with a tonkotsu broth. Much to my surprise, it was delicious. My other friend ordered the Matcha Chicken Paitan since he cannot eat pork due to religious reasons and that too was delicious. Saw this new ramen place popped up on Yelp and decided to give them a try. I have had enjoyed quality ramen and unfortunately have noticed that some of my gotos in the area have declined in quality. I'm happy to say that this new small ramen stop made me a happy customer. A note, it is a small shop so expect wait time especially if you go during busy hours. Tried out their version of chicken kara-age. My appetizers in ramen shop usually start off with it if they have it on the menu! The chicken was fried well, maintaining the juicyness and crisp. The flavor is light, but comes with lemon and spicy mayo that went very well together. It definitely passed my test (not being overdone and too dry) and the chef definitely took the time to make it right. I also tried the hojicha ramen while my mom had the wagyu ramen. I thought I try something different than a classic since the name of this restaurant has "cha" 茶 (tea) so this would be their special dish. Their broth has a rich strong, earthly taste and the ramen seeped in it's flavor. The melty egg is something I usually judge and that glossy melted yolk was cooked to perfection. I really love the combination ratio of vegetables and chashu. I only got to try a piece of the wagyu beef and soup. Very melty beef and love the rich creamy flavor of the soup. The only personal downside is the temperature of the broth is not as hot as I like it. I can understand it for the wagyu ramen as you do not want the broth to cook the beef too much. It is hot don't get me wrong, but that's just my personal taste - no deductions here. Overall this is definitely a stop I hope to visit again soon. Appetizer- we wanted to get the fried enoki mushrooms but it was sold out around 8:30pm Luckily the karage was available and still very good and crunchy! 8/10 Entree- we got the yuzu shio ramen and classic ramen. My favorite was definitely the yuzu shio ramen. It had a very clean and light taste in the soup. It had the yuzu taste and clams broth. 9/10. My boyfriend got the classic ramen and the broth was almost milky pork bone broth. Very good too!! 8.5/10. Dessert- Matcha Mont Blanc. I love the combination of red bean and green tea! This is now within my top pick ramen joints of Queens/Nassau - excellent ramen of various inventive types with a focus on quality ingredients. I had the regular old "classic ramen" which was fantastic, rich and not too salty with excellent chashu on top. I will likely try their wagyu (A5) ramen and then their Tsukumen next. The hamachi crude appetizer comes in a yuzu/dashi type vinaigrette with an excellent salad and Dijon mustard, very well executed. They prefer cash only as they do a small surcharge for credit card. Matcha ramen - chicken broth with intense matcha flavor, chicken breast meat, egg (this place gives you a whole egg versus many other places that give only half an egg) and a bit of greens. I ordered 3 appetizers, fried enoki, grilled squid and the Hamachi, and the wagyu ramen and all of the items were great! Fried enoki was super unique as I've had enoki before but never deep fried, had a nice combo of the umami mushroom taste with the crispness of a fried food, really good! The squid was great in portion and paired well with the spicy mayo sauce that was drizzled over it, my favorite appetizer is the Hamachi, as it tasted light and fresh, paired super well with the arugula side and was magnificently finished with a nice yuzu emulsion. The wagyu ramen was spectacular as well! The broth was super well done, the noodles perfect, and meat super tender, loved the fact that it blanketed the meal as well. Was hearing that this place may be the best ramen spot in queens so I had to give it a try! Came by on a Friday night right around opening. It was quiet at first but the restaurant is relatively small so the seats filled up quickly. I also saw a lot of take out orders being prepared. My friend and I shared the crispy enoki fries, matcha ramen, and hojicha ramen. The enoki fries was a fun finger food that kept me entertained until the ramen arrived. The hojicha ramen was fragrant and had a good balance. The matcha ramen was also unique and savory in flavor. As a noodle soup lover, I found there to be a little less soup than I would've liked and A LOT of noodle that I couldn't finish. Been here countless times already since its opening! I'm far from being a ramen enthusiast, but the ramen here is outstanding. You can taste the quality. I've tried various dishes, but my favorites are the classic ramen and the tsukumen (dipping ramen). As for their appetizers, I would recommend their karaage or hamachi. I've tried a taste of my boyfriend's hojicha ramen, but it wasn't suitable for our tastes. A bit too unique, but that's just us. The restaurant is fairly small and can only fit 5-6 parties. It's always bustling with people every time I go, regardless of what time it is. There's only one server handling everything, but she's amazing at her job. She manages to be as quick as she can be, while still being polite and attentive. I do hope they hire more workers in the future because it seems exhausting! read more

I really really enjoyed this place. It's soooo hard to find a decent ramen place in NYC that does everything right. The balanced flavours of the broth, texture of noodles and portions are all things I take note on and they executed the ramen dishes perfectly. Like many have said, this place is tiny so not suitable for groups and don't even try to bring a stroller in here as it's not very kid friendly. Clean and refreshing choice of interior and adornments, quietly sophisticated to be precise. Although there was only one attendant, she was very capable simultaneously taking dine in orders and fulfilling food delivery ones. The food...... Classic ramen ($15) - 4.5/5. Delicious pork based broth, very creamy but not too heavy. The noodles were plentiful and had an addictive bite to it. The pork wasn't the most tender (fatty) but still flavoursome......I kinda forgot what else was in there because I hawked it down as soon as it arrived, all I know is it was delicious and my belly was super happy ;) I do highly recommend that you get an additional serving of noodles ($3), its so worth it and portions are big :D Azuki matchaspresso ($7.50) - 3.5/5 it was good but didn't need the whipped cream, it would have also been great to have more red bean for a bit more sweetness and texture but you definitely get that hit of matcha without it being overpowered by the espresso. Chestnut Mont Blanc ($9) - 4/5. I was so digging the hojicha ice cream, soooo good. Again it could have done without whipped cream, the chestnut cake tasted very similar to the Japanese dessert products that you can purchase in Chinese/Korean/Japanese specialty stores, so I'm not sure if it's made fresh... Triple shrimp ($16) - 4/5. Great texture noodles, I think tan tan noodles, awesome portions. Shrimps weren't the best, tiger shrimps would have been a better choice. The broth was different, unique in a good way. I love how they've incorporated the coconut milk foam, very innovative. Small menu, which is a good thing, you'll get quality dishes rather than subpar variety. The wait is a little long (~30-35 min) but I think this can be solved with additional staff. They DO check for vaccinations, so make sure you have that on you. Plenty of parking in the general area. I have never been a fan of ramen but the wagyu truffle ramen sparked my interest. Our party of 4 had to wait about 10 minutes for seats. The place seats about 20-22 people max so don't be surprise at a wait. We wanted to try the Ika but they ran out. We had the hamachi and it was delicious! Perfect balance between the mustard and the Yuzu. The men in our party had the classic ramen and the ladies had the wagyu mazeman. It was so exciting to see the server shave the truffle table side. My husband who also is not a ramen fan loved the classic. The broth was piping hot and not overly salted. Noodles had the perfect chew. My wagyu mazeman was delicious as well. The noodles were laced with just a touch of truffle oil. Perfect chew and they served it with garlic and some small seared onions. The wagyu beef was very tender. I know mazem does not come with broth but I think a bit of both on the side would of made those dish perfect. The truffles looked great but the taste was meh. I craved Japanese ramen so I found this new place to try it with my friends. I came here on a Thursday night around 7:30pm and since it's a very small restaurant, we had to wait for a table. We only waited around 10 minutes before being seated! The inside is minimal and super clean so it was well appreciated by all of my girlfriends:) For apps, we got the enoki mushroom and it tasted like a chip (really good!) I wanted to try the Hojicha Ramen as I've never heard of anything like it. My other friend got the Matcha Ramen and the other got a Classic Ramen. Honestly speaking, the Hojicha Ramen was nothing I ever tasted before and it was very interesting. It wasn't bad but it was a particular taste that perhaps some would like. The Matcha Ramen was a bit stronger in flavor so it was a bit heavy (my friend couldn't finish it). The Classic Ramen, however was really good! I visited twice over the past two months: once with family, once with a friend. -------- The first time, I got the karaage chicken, classic ramen, azuki matchapresso, and matcha mont blanc. Karaage chicken was almost too crispy but spraying the lemon on side saved it. Lemon juice smoothed out the transition from crispy deep fry to tenderish chicken. I thought I was eating lemon chicken for a brief moment. Portions were kinda small and I wanted more. Classic ramen was solid - flavors weren't fancy or mind blowing but I wouldn't get sick of eating this every day if my body allowed it. Azuki matapresso was interesting - it was layered espresso, Japanese green tea, and red bean I think. I didn't love it because I appreciated the green tea part and it felt like the espresso and red bean were competing against green tea glory. I should try just a matcha latte instead. Matcha mont blanc was alright. Red bean ice cream contrasted the matcha mont blanc in flavor, texture, and temperature. And it was cute and pretty. ------- The second time, I got the fried enoki and hojicha ramen. Fried enoki were nice. Freshly crisp, couldn't really taste the enoki and arguably addicting. The hojicha ramen was alright. I liked the angle from this dish. Definitely liked and tasted the hojicha in hojicha ramen but halfway through, I got bored of the flavor somehow. My friend got the matcha ramen and I tried the broth. To me, it tasted milky (?) like matcha latte. Still good but I preferred the hojicha ramen. This is probably the best (and only) ramen place closest to me that I'm willing to go to again. There's a wagyu beef ramen that's never ready until dinner time supposedly. So happy that there's a ramen place on northern blvd now! We ordered the classic ramen and the triple shrimp ramen and they both were delicious! The chasu in the classic ramen was nice and thick and was some of the best chasu I've had. The triple shrimp ramen was also very flavorful. I will say that the ramen did lack the umami taste I'm used to in other ramen dishes, but it may be because this ramen comes from a different region in Japan (the classic ramen is Hakata style). With that being said, I can still say that everything in our meals were cooked and prepared very well. The matcha mont blanc dessert was also an interesting variety of flavors but honestly they went really well together. Always good to have another ramen options in the Queens area and this place is so close to a homerun. I got the karage and the classic ramen and was very happy with both of them. The karage portion is more than fair, is fried well and crispy and comes with a solid sauce. The ramen noodles were great and I'm glad I asked because they do kae dama for two more dollars for extra noodles. The portion of cha siu was also very generous as there were two thick slices with adequate amount of fat and marbling. The broth was really close to being awesome but I did feel it needed a little more depth and a little more salt. Other than that this place is definitely a go to. This is a very good lowkey spot. They have great ramen and great tea. Pricing is very fair. However if you cannot drink milk some of the teas you can't have. The hot teas are made with half and half or milk and sadly there was no substitute for it when I went. It is still very good for what I did try and I would definitely go back again. I've been here twice in the afternoon and both experiences were worth it. I've tried the Matcha Ramen (deep thick matcha broth flavor), Hojicha Ramen (earthy aroma and thick hojicha broth flavor), Classic Ramen (looks as delicious as it tastes), Tsukemen (the dipping broth is so flavorful, the pork is very fatty and rich in flavor), and the Organic Enoki (very crispy). Both visits we asked for the Wagyu but it seems that it isn't ready or prepared until later in the day. I wanted to try the Yuzu Shio Ramen but was told that it was no longer available until October. I love the clean and minimalistic décor. This place seems to be a family run small shop fitting about 20 people. The lady serving our table is very attentive and tried to maximize out experience by giving us tips on how to enjoy the meal. Hopefully there will be another wait staff if the business continues to prosper. I will definitely come again (want to try the Wagyu) and recommend this to others. read more

When was the last time you see a high quality disposal chopsticks that won't splinter at any local place?! It was busy on a Friday night, but everything was clean and orderly. Although matcha ramen was interesting, classic was definitely the move. I had thought the portion would be small given the stylish bowl it was served in. I was wrong.
