Visited Cha Cha Coconuts on a day trip to Sarasota! It's located in St Armand's Circle and it was pretty busy, sat at the bar for a quick drink and bite to eat. Took a little time for any of the bartenders to come help us. But once we ordered everything came out quick which was great! Me and my partner got the Soca Coconut Shrimp Meal to split. Coconut shrimp and fries were not bad but the coleslaw was very bland. I ordered the cha cha coconut drink and it was nice and refreshing on a hot FL summer day. I loved that even though it was a frozen drink it wasn't overly sweet it was just right! Would def stop back by for a quick drink if I'm ever in the area again! I was recommended to have one item from Cha Cha. Their key lime pie. It was 10/10. I ate at a meal at the Cuban restaurant next door which is also owned by the same owners. I then went to Cha Cha. It was probably the best key lime pie I had. read more

Might be the food spot on the circle. You can have beach wear on and walk in also. The portions are a little larger the tourist traps. The prices are about the same. However they are better than at the beach. I always stick with the mahi-mahi dishes and they have plenty of flavor with a mango in avocado salsa. The rice and beans melt on your tongue. So fun to revisit an old favorite. Back in the 90s, I always brought out-of-town guests here, and to the former location atop the old St. Pete Pier. While my taste in drinks has changed since the beepers and fanny packs era, I did like the margarita and the grouper nuggets were divine-with a batter that was crunchy, light and flavorful. The sweet potato fries were a wee but bland, but it was a nice portion and cane with two dipping sauces. The servers were attentive. You also can't beat the location. We had a large group of 14. Seating was accommodated. Server was okay but seemed frazzled even though the restaurant was not too busy on a Sunday evening. I ordered the Pineapple Margarita, grouper bites, queso blanco, & lobster roll. My husband had a beer & burger. The grouper bites were delicious & the queso blanco was nitro great, where it went south was my Lobster roll. Luckily I didn't eat it before seeing a small black bug crawling out from under the bread with hardly any lobster on it. When I told the server, he took the plate and said "we won't charge you for it". Dam right, I didn't even eat it, That's obvious but they didn't even compensate for ruining our dinner. We ended up here because our first choice was too busy. With that said, we had a really good meal. Good location. Open air indoor seating and outdoor seating. Indoors was actually pleasantly cool for a July evening. Live music was fun. Food was actually way better than was expected. It was very tasty. Between us we ordered salads (try the Tony salad) and sandwiches/burgers. We did not have seafood. I feel like if you want seafood, there might be better choices, but that's all hunch. The manager delivered our food and came back around to check on us. She said the dressings and sauces are all homemade and I believe her. My son's sandwich came with a slightly curry tasting mayo sauce called Havana sauce and it was amazing! A shoe would taste good with that on top. The mango mojito was great , I would recommend that drink. Everything else was ok. My Brazilian chicken had hair on top of it so they did remake it for me. Mahi sandwich was meh, my kid liked the shrimp tacos but rice was over cooked and little bland. Burger with pineapple was good but the bun they use for it was not really good . They had normal kid options for kids under 10. They also were able to accommodate for one our kids shellfish allergies. The restaurant vibe is laid back ( that's why we chose it ) , kid friendly . Walking up for a couple quick drinks and apps this place was great. A nice rum runner, fruity, easy drinking and offered on the rocks or frozen(I opted for on the rocks). The pina colada smoothie was delicious! Rich for a smoothie, it was basically dessert but when isn't a pina colada dessert? Peel n' eat shrimp had good flavor and came with an excellent remoulade. The sweet potato fries were hot, crispy, and came with a honey mustard that had a healthy hint of horse radish - perfect combination and all around well done. Food was amazing! The Mahi Mahi was absolutely scrumptious and i had some math watering guac! And the Mango Guava cheesecake is TDF(to die for)! We ordered coconut shrimp, shrimp tacos, grouper tacos, and a shrimp tostada. The chips and salsa with guacamole was good. Our servers name is Kelley and she is just awesome. There service is great. Cha Cha Coconuts was the first place I have ate in Lido Key/Sarasota that I was like, meh I really did not like that. But the service was wonderful. If the service is great and the food is just okay then I am split 50/50. Again like many other people, I wish we could give half stars and if we could, then this place would get a solid 2.5 stars. I went in for lunch on a Friday afternoon around 11:30. The place was pretty much empty and we were told to just pick our seat. The first thing we noticed is the paper menu is also a place mat! I love this and think more restaurants should just make the menu a place mat. We surveyed the menu and I knew exactly what I was hungry for. Our waiter came over and we ordered drinks. I ordered just a lemonade. The waiter asked me if I wanted the lemonade with free refills or the made from scratch lemonade, which you don't get refills. I told him I would take the free refill lemonade. He then said, what if you get the made from scratch lemonade and then I can give you the free refill one after your first glass. It ended up being like .75 cents more and I was fine with that. I wish I didn't as the made from scratch lemonade was awful. It tasted like the lemons were spoiled and their was no sugar in the glass. Thankfully I was able to pour it out into a water cup I had and just drank the lemonade with refills which was fine by me. I decided to order the Emily's Soca Coconut Shrimp. This came with Island fries, coleslaw, and spicy coconut mustard sauce. This was the first time I can say the Coconut shrimp were bad. You can tell they just use regular shrimp cocktail shrimp, the small ones you find in grocery stores. The shrimp were over cooked and hard. The shrimp really did not taste like coconut at all. I was not pleased. The coleslaw was awful. I love me some coleslaw and again it almost tasted spoiled. The fries were good and lightly dusted with a good seasoning. Overall I was not impressed by the coconut shrimp at all. At the restaurant I had told our waiter about our dislike for the different items and he was supremely gracious and offered to fix it all. I was hungry so I did eat what I had and since we were in a hurry we did not want to wait for the remake. I am not someone who wants anything for free so we paid our bill and left, but they did offer to comp items, but I did not want to do that. Again the service here was phenomenal. They took great care for us. I am not sure if it was just an off day, but the food was just really bad. I would be willing to try again to see if we have a similar issues, but not sure I will because Sarasota/Lido Key have so many good other options . If your in the area, just be cautious, but try it if you want. Maybe your food will be better than mine! read more

St. Armand's was crowded due to the fine art show, and we wanted to eat at Columbia, but it was packed, so we settled for here. Atmosphere is cute, with a Caribbean type theme. We took a seat and they promptly brought our menus. I ordered the chicken and cheese BLT with fries. The food for the 4 of us came out quickly and was hot. My plate was presented nicely, and even had a little scoop of bean salad. First, the bun was stale and too big for the size of the chicken. The lettuce was that shredded bag lettuce....ugh. There was 1 strip of bacon on the sandwich and no cheese that I could taste. The fries were good and hot. Overall, totally disappointed with my choice and for the price, so. It worth it. I was in town for work and my colleague and I were looking for an affordable, tropical, fun seafood place in the night life district, and we ended up here! The very attractive, bright colors, fun themes and decor, and live guitarist drew us in. There was not a large crowd here for dinner and we thought that would help us get food more quickly. We sat outside in the sidewalk Beer Garden and it was very pleasant. Wait staff was fairly quickly attentive, polite, and very friendly. Tables around us were clean. Unfortunately, there was a table of 4 people next to us and one woman with the absolutely worst cackle of a laugh and loud voice and we couldn't bear it after 10 minutes so we moved inside. Sitting inside was pleasant and fun and felt very Caribbean. The guitarist was entertaining, our server followed us in and the bartender even greeted us. Our beer showed up quickly, as did the conch fritters. They were yummy -- piping-hot, crunchy on the outside and plenty of spicy conch meat blend on the inside. I noticed also that our server gave us plenty of time to enjoy these before bringing out our dinners. I had a fish sandwich that was delicious and filling, albeit not big. Presentation was pretty but it could have been a little more carefully plated. My coleslaw was fairly average, tasty but not special, so no complaint on that. What I really thought was unique, tasty and memorable was the scoop of bean salad on a decorative purple lettuce leaf. I'm a key lime pie freak, so when I see it I order it. And being a northerner, when I'm down in Florida I'm Key Lime Pie crazy. That being said, this was not great key lime pie. It satisfied my sweet tooth for the night, but it was not tart, nor fluffy enough, almost too dense. The Graham crust was okay but could have been a little thicker. We waited an hour for our food. The drinks arrived at the table beside us and were handled before the waitress realized another waitress sat them there. Didn't offer to make new ones but we were so tired of waiting we just accepted them any way. The food was good but nothing you can't find anywhere else. The waitress was nice but must have been so swamped that she hardly came around. We waited a very long time to get our check and I even had to go ask for it because our waitress must have quit or got fired. (Seriously no one knew where she went) I felt kind of bad asking the other staff but it was 20 minutes after we were done eating. The first bite I took of the mango avacado salsa on my fish I told my friend that it didn't taste right and I thought it should have been cold and not room temperature. It also could have been a couple days old because the avocado was completely dissolved. No chunks.
