Friday, January 16, 2026 - Two for a burger bite. Not before the FST show. (GOSUB to the **** for the meat/burger of the review ((smile)) ) I have reviewed about 30 restaurants in and around Sarasota since 2021 when we moved down permanently and are members of the FST. On this Friday night, nothing was going right. My wife was delayed at school etc. So then a delayed departure from Venice, a false stop at Mad Moe's for a burger in Osprey (PACKED) and then a direct shot and parking across from FST we hope for a quick burger or something at the bar or restaurant at FST? But it was PACKED and they weren't serving any more???? We threw our tickets in the trash because now we could not make it back in time, (( frown :-( )) So a walk to Main Street to see if Patrick's or anybody might have room for two? NOPE. and we were walking along and THERE WAS BREWSTER's GASTROPUB!!!!!!!!!! For some reason I have 128 restaurants on my Sarasota Favorites list and Brewster's was not on it? I checked them on as I entered??? Looked VERY full at the bar, and most tables were full but it looked like we had a shot...... and there was a four top high-top!!!!!!! WIDE OPEN!! I think the no table service might be the delineator. We weren't looking for a sit down "dining" and full service gig. Nor did we need the overhead and pomp and circumstance of a host/hostess, army of bus staff, a waitstaff and being waited on with drinks and water and etc? ******** We came to EAT GOOD SIMPLE FOOD and have FUN. **** And that's what we did!!! "Todd" at the bar was friendly and fantastic. All the bartenders and staff were helpful and friendly. The "security guy" when he saw me at the bar for about 20 seconds helped me get some ketchup. Zone defense and team effort!!!! I got the signature Brew Burger and a side of Street Corn and had an endless glass of water w/ lemon I think I had Todd fill about 5 times. My wife and I bantered about what the Street Corn would be and we were happily surprised with the authentic Mexican Street Corn (elotes?) on the cob with a stick and a delightful creamy Chile, garlic, and Cotija cheese sauce I think. (problem is we gobble them up before we could figure out the exact sauce composition here. BUT it was very tasty. 10/10 The burger (for this adult usually nutritarian plant-based eater) was EXACTLY what I had hoped for. A wonderfully fresh an warm brioche bun, fantastic angus burger, cheddar and a "secret sauce" . I got lettuce onion and pickles which are standard...... this was VERY VERY VERY tasty. only quip is I will opt for sauce on the side and its was a little too much sauce. This was mega and uber better than some greasy Five Guys or Smashburger or any of that stuff. 10/10 My wife got the Shroom & Swiss Burger that had a wonderful portobello mushroom on it nicely cooked, terrific angus burger properly cooked exactly as we ordered it, she loved the blue cheese perfect amount, She also felt a bit TOO much of the secret sauce, but its pretty tasty so not a catastrophe. This was also an AWESOME burger!! 10/10 The sweet potato fries were not crazy greasy and perfectly crisp but not crunchy for fries - good, cross-cut and obviously bulk bag. Cut or sliced would be nicer but of course not expected, its a side. 7/10 The place is clean and glassware and silverware perfectly clean. The counter/bar service is fantastic. I had to make a few trips for ketchup and place ware and etc but hey when your wife gets one of the better vodka cranberry w/lemon and club in a large tumble for $9 instead of $15 or $16 for a 6 oz martini glass with 4 oz of watery drink........ its a home run!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! With all the TVs and sports that is probably the summary of my review. Brewster's Gastropub is a Grand Slam for food and service......and especially burgers!!! Bravo Zulu. read more

Very subpar! How are you gonna have a wall of TVs and during the NBA finals instead of game sound you play Top 40 hits and clearly you have mojority of the people there for the game... Food was also nothing to write home about. Average at best. Ordered chips and salsa/cheese and wings. Somehow it took the chips to come as long as it did the wings...which kind of defeats the purpose of having an appetizer. I know what you're thinking - they were busy... Well they weren't. Less than 30 people in the whole place. Oh and if you sit at a table, you still need to walk over to the bar to order! So all in all, hard pass! read more

My pops has been coming here for a while and he always takes care of the bartenders and never complains, i came here for the first time on May 4th to celebrate my birthday a little bit, but the staff are terrible, they checked all our IDs and then wanted to check my friends ID again and said there is a problem with it like what... food was decent i guess nothing crazy, but bartenders need to get their stuff together. Service was horrible. Asked server if we could sit outside (several open tables) and watch the Penguins game on one of the TVs - his response was "we're pretty busy not sure I can do that". This was after he parades through the busy bar on the inside yelling "out of my way coming through". Totally needs better training. I was passing through Sarasota for work this week and stumbled upon Brewster's while exploring Main Street. Decided to pop in for a quick beer before heading back to the hotel--and I'm so glad I did! The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming, the beer selection was top-notch, and the whole vibe of the place was super inviting. Although I didn't grab a bite this time, the food coming out of the kitchen looked amazing--definitely on my list for next visit! read more

My wife and I were Sarasota the week before Labor Day and we took the free trolley downtown to Brewster's, which we saw on Yelp. We entered what kind of felt like a locals bar and our super cool waitress Rose asked what our names were, nice touch and used them all during service. I ordered a local IPA and then a mahi sandwich with a kale side salad and some fried pickles. I hardly ever get fried stuff, but you always forget how awesome fried pickles are with an amazing sauce dip. The mahi sandwich was lovely and a good bun. I could do without the kale salad, but the atmosphere was fun and lots of locals inside. Great place for lunch in downtown Sarasota! read more

Had been in Sarasota for a week and was just about done with seafood. Found Brewster's was only a 5 minute walk from my hotel so we decided to give it a try. Walked in and every table had an "all service through bar" sign on them which was a little bit of a bummer. Had to wait to be noticed by all 3 bar tenders who seemed to be in conversation to get a menu. Once I got the menu (1 menu) we decided what to have. Then wait to be noticed again. Placed order and returned to my seat. Our order didn't take long and honestly, the food was very good. Pretzels had more than enough cheese, fried pickles were great and the brew burger was big, juicy and all was great. The unfortunate part is if you need something (ketchup, refill on water, another beer, etc) then you have to go to the bar and wait to get noticed. The food is very good. Just need to look past the "bar service" workflow. I will say that the server who delivered our food lacked any form of engagement. Dropped the food at the table and scampered away without saying a word. Had she been more engaged and friendly, this review may not have happened or at least I wouldn't have said anything about the bar service. She could have said "anything else I can get you" and we would have simply asked for ketchup. But alas, zero personality or care about the customer experience. read more

Went in on a Wednesday and they had $1 wings, best wing deal in all of Sarasota FL. Bought 18 and with tip was $24 (got them to go) tried all three of the hottest sauses and they were all very good. My only complaint is they are not crispy at all, tried one in the car so it's not because they sat. If they had been crispy... 5* read more

The food here was soooo good! The big chicken tenders- Perfect! The beef sooo good! Really surprised that the quality of food was being served in a bar. First time in Sarasota a stayed at hotel not far from here. We were out walking and it started to rain so we ducked in for lunch. Looks like just a regular bar, tables, music, sports on tv. Got a drink and we ordered lunch and holy smokes the food was outstanding. Amazing tacos and burgers, we loved it all. Very friendly vibe. Loved it so much came back for takeout following evening. Went here this evening after work. I was hungry for a burger and the reviews were good. Service was from the bar tonight because they weren't busy. Took 10 minutes to get the attention of 1 of the 2 people at the bar in order to get a menu. Waited another 10 minutes for one of them ask me for my order as I stood at the bar without anyone around me. They ignored me! I guess they are doing well enough that they don't need the busy. Stumbled upon this place after stopping at the Siesta Keys, Many places to eat on Main Street. This place had open outdoor seating and a chalkboard that offered a daily special for $14. You could get one handheld and a choice of side plus a soft drink, liquor, wine or domestic draft. I chose to have the mahi which. it is a blackened mahi sandwich with citrus aïoli. I received my choice of fries, sweet potato, or street corn on the side. I ordered the local domestic dark draft. My guest chose the plain Jane, which is a fried chicken sandwich. We were greeted by Rose, the bartender. She was very kind and asked us our name after ordering. Then told us that her name was Rose. As we sat here for lunch, we heard numerous people say goodbye Rose or hello Rose to her. She is genuinely kind. We came at lunchtime, and the silverware was pasta. We did not get a four but just a plastic knife. I would prefer to have cutlery that was not plastic, although was forgiven, since the food was good. Two bathrooms that were unisex in the back of the house. Both were very clean. Came here on a Monday at 12:30. Not disappointed. Food arrived after about 10 minutes. The bun for my sandwich was the only disappointment. I think they need an upgrade. Mahi had good flavor. Hot hot and tender. The fries were incredible. They are crispy and crunchy. At the same time. Chicken tender Thursdays, 13.99 for some enormous chicken tenders, a side, and a well drink or beer. Great food, great staff, great time. 3 brothers run the place together and take pride in what they do. The head Chef cares just as much. This is a local dive bar with lots of TVs and beers. We wanted to catch the Stanley cup playoffs and we did - unfortunately our team the Panthers lost but there is still one game left. My husband and I went to Brewster's tonight for dinner. We heard their burgers were wonderful! We sat at a table for nine minutes and no one even acknowledged us. There may have been 12 people in the restaurant with two bartenders. There was no sign or table tent on the tables telling us how to order, nobody came over to us and asked us what we would like, none of the bartenders leaned over and signal us or say hey, if you wanna order come to the bar! We finally got up and left. We went over to Circo Taco and had a great dinner. We won't go back to Brewster. We highly recommend Circo Tacos! Everything was fantastic here. We visited on a Thursday night, football on the TV, seating was limited but found a small table. Ordered at the bar easily, got our drinks on the spot, ordered some food which was brought to the table. I had the Short Rib Melt with fries and my wife had the shrimp quesadilla, we also had the pickle chips. Food was out of this world good! Wife doesn't normally like pickle chips or shoestring fries, but in this case she loved them! I don't know how to describe this place other than there's so many places to walk down Main Street and find something unique what I love about this place. It is laid-back, the bartenders go above me on to try to connect with their guest, which is important to me, but it doesn't matter if the food is no good, you're at a dead end. The food here is excellent. They typically try to do a special every day, when my favorites are the handheld's the wing night, and my favorite is the chicken tenders because I love the fact that they use real chicken batter and then fry it, and it's not a processed chicken. It is a true chicken, tender that they batter and fry. I can't say enough about the deal, the friendliness, and just the all around atmosphere.
