I have yet to eat-in at Cesar's, but their catered food is awesome! I had their fresh ceviche and hand-made tamales at a friend's house party the other night and was really impressed. I liked it so much in fact that we placed an order from them for a holiday party we are hosting. Never order the Posole! It tasted like chile water and it had no meat only nerve. It was a to-go order and I was told as I was paying that my order was the last of the posole and it had very little meat and he was going to give me a discount. Well I did get a discount and i didn't get any meat! It was bone, fat and nerve with tons of hominy but the broth had absolutely no flavor; it just tasted like hot water mixed with red chile. If I was worried about a return customer, I wouldn't have sold what they sold me, that would have been thrown out! I will continue to "Rave" about their shrimp cocktail and ceviche and will stick to ordering that when I decide to go back. read more

Cesar's Place Atmosphere: Small cafe style Mexican restaurant. Spacious space plenty of seating indoors with framed pieces of painted artwork. Oh, one interesting montage is a framed piece of seashells and wine corks. Service: You seat yourself, waitress comes by quickly to take your order and the food is delivered quickly.The waitresses are quick and friendly. Food/drink: Every time and I do mean EVERY TIME, we order the shrimp cocktail. Sam loves Shimp cocktails and has been on a quest to find the best in town (If that sounds like you, look no further) The sauce or cocktail sauce is tasty: slightly sweet and a perfect base to the tons of shrimp, chopped onions and avocado. We've also ordered the large tostada with steak, which was good. On a hot day enjoyed the Horchata (oat drink) with ice. Cesar's Place has been a very popular restaurant in Santa Barbara. The food is exceptional and the Decor really sets the setting. unfortunately, the service has gone down... Way down. I have never had to wait over 20 minutes just for a To-Go box. I even spoke with two different waitresses. As I was waiting, I noticed that majority of the restaurant patrons were in a similar funk. (Looking around in wonder of when their food would arrive or where their bill was. At this point I began to think about how long I waited to order the food in the first place.... when visiting Cesar's, make sure you have at least 1 hour to spare in wait time alone. This includes waiting for your bill to come to you after you have asked the same waitress for the tab several times. I left questioning whether I would return or not.... and it is unlikely. I went today before the lunch rush and ordered a Mexican torta smothered in sauce. I was the only woman in the building, it was slow and there we're two waitresses. They attended all the men in the room but I had to interrupt them to bring me sugar even though they passed my table repeatedly .They were upset that because they were more interested in decorating a Christmas tree then helping paying customers on their lunch break. Two tables came and left before I ever got my food!! After 49 minutes wait it was no surprise they brought me a soggy cold sandwich. Reheating made it a mushy mess! I then refused the food after spending my entire lunch hour there. The rude waitress actually charged my 2.97 for a tea I only had a sip of because it took her so long to bring sugar! She then had the nerve to ask me if I wanted to wait for something else!!! If u want a Torta go to Cuernavaca or Los Agaves really anywhere else! The cooks are great the waitresses are terrible. FYI the last time I went here they also took an hour after I called in the order and then told me rudely that they ran out of bread...I should have never given them a second chance! read more

Love it here! It's my favorite place to go for some good, homestyle Mexican food in Santa Barbara. The micheladas are the BEST and I usually like to get the chile relleno with a chicken enchilada. Everything is served with chips and salsa which is nice since a lot of places nowadays like to charge extra for it. The staff is also really nice and I love that a couple of the ladies remembers me each time I come by even if it's months later. Definitely a place to visit! read more

Cesar's is a quiet, unassuming palce right on Milpas. Parking is on the street (if you can find it). Service is a bit slow, but friendly and gracious. The food is worth the wait, though, so it you have the time you should definitely try the place. Prices are reasonable for what you get and the preparation is *perfect*. read more

I've only been here once so far a month or two ago, and I don't remember what I had! I DO remember, however, wanting to go back, and absolutely loving the michelada. Cesars Place is a must if you're around the eastside. Since i've recently remembered my Yelp password i'm going to review this place now even though I've eaten here to many times to remember. I know there is Los Agaves and Super Rica right down the road but thats hype! This is comfort mexicans food. The Aquachiles! So Good! to quote Friday "Taste so good make you wanna slap your momma." Sorry mom. To those that don't know its raw shrimp that are marinated/ cooked in a green chile, with red onions and cucumbers. 5 star. The ceviche: I have to say best in town! Really fresh and its a huge plate that you can definitely share! 5 star Must have item: Michelada! Which is like a mexican bloody mary except beer instead of vodka. One of the best kept secrets of SB. It's a local's place but the ceviche here is honestly, the best I have ever had and yes, I love ceviche. I also had the large fried fish (It starts with an M). Anyway, the shrimp cocktail is typical. Most of the chile is pretty hot, (except for the mild one) especially the light green one. I have never had anything on the menu that wasn't fish and I hardly have any space in my stomach for the sides so I can't comment on them. The ambiance lacks a little but if you love fish prepared in a Puerto Vallarta sort of way, this is the place to go in SB. read more

I went to Cesar Place yesterday and to be honest food is not that bad but is not good either. Cocktail shrimp were tasteless. Others stuff were ok like the ceviche tostadas. Stop the car Nancy ! Though parking might be an issue, nothing else will be problem - unless you're allergic to sea food. Then it's an epipen chaser for you. The Shrimp cocktail is that worth it! Once seated you may have a hard time holding focus between Spanish TV takes, so your table conversation may dwindle. But chips and salsa will help occupy your time. I've never noticed more than one sever here, but even when busy, the wait has never been bad. Other than the coctel de camarón (shrimp cocktail) I have found the Chili Relleno and Sopes are excellent. I am not a fan of Horchata, but other family members rave about it. The place isn't a cheap dive by any means,.. more of a mid priced dive - all in a good, "I still feel safe" way - I'm certain you will have a much more "authentic" experience here than another "super" popular establishment a block or so away.... This place while the food is alright, is incredibly racist. I've never felt so uncomfortable in a resturant with people staring at my table, which was only my girlfriend and I. Being an African American man in a place like Santa Barbara I'm somewhat used to people taking an extra glance at me when I walk by, but this place was completely different. When we first arrived and walked in the man at the table near the window stared at us outside and then continued as we walked in and waited by the counter. There were multiple people at the counter and no one even acknowledged us even though multiple people passed us to serve their tables. Finally one lady took us to sit down and all the people in the room stared at us as we took our seats and my girlfriend (who is Mexican) felt extremely uncomfortable, as did I. The waitress was rude and barely looked at us, every time she came to our table she made it pretty clear through her body language that she did not want to be serving us. They messed up my girlfriends order and my food was barely warm when she brought it out. The only time she was fast was when we asked for the check which she went and printed out right away. The best part of the entire meal was not leaving a tip for her, which I normally do, but in this instance I just couldn't. This might have been my worse experience at a restaurant, and if you eat here, you are supporting racism. I would give zero stars if I could. read more

I love to get mexican food and sometimes I qualify a restaurant based on their quality of seafood and seafood options. Cesar's Place is a small duck and dive just off of Milpas St. not too far from DT SB. Better to get to if you're driving and don't mind the Milpas Scene which is NOTHING like DT, more like East LA in certain parts. Cesar's Place surprised me because i was just walking by, was hungry, and barely saw the place walking past it. I went inside and it wasnt during a busy time for them which i assume is later in the day/evening. I ordered a Burrito de Camaron (which most Mexican places don't have/wont serve) and it was amazingly delicious. The quality of the shrimp which was lightly butterflied (a HUGE plus) and not over cooked, mixed well with their in house salsa and seasonings. I would highly recommend going there for most if not all seafood related mexican dishes. Very good food for a price that wont scare you to death. Location is sidewalk entry only and parking is not always easy to find. read more

Great friendly neighborhood Mexican restaurant. This place has an impressive selection of fresh seafood, but I can't review that because I'm such a fan of their fresh, flavorful chicken dishes that that's what I always get. The service is interesting -- dishes tend to come out just one or two at a time, so part of your table may be waiting. But drinks and condiments are on the table fast fast fast, so I suspect they just have a tiny kitchen. read more

Definitely in the right place for Mexican food when everyone there seems local and speaking Spanish. We had great service and the food was fab. Went all seafood, fish and chips, shrimp cocktail and ceviche. Still ended up with leftover ceviche since that was a giant portion! The shrimp cocktail was amazing, with way more shrimp than expected. The fish and chips was the weakest of the bunch but that was still pretty tasty fish with bleh chips, but then again it was a Mexican restaurant so fries weren't at the top of my tasting list.
