Located half a block from the most well-known landmark in Barcelona, InterTapa has some prime real estate. If it hadn't been such a chilly evening, my family and I would have requested outdoor seating with the looming silhouette of the Sagrada Familia in the distance. The place is obviously located in a tourist-heavy portion of the city, so expect a moderate wait. The decor, disregarding the festive Christmas, reminded me of a homey log cabin with beige walls and warm lighting.
Outside the comely atmosphere, the food was mostly so-so to slightly above average. We kicked dinner off with some boquerones, or thinly sliced anchovies in olive oil and vinegar. The presentation was lovely and the flesh was salty, sour, and bitter all at once...certainly kick-started our taste buds. The cannelon, (rolled pasta with a rich, cheesy beef stuffing) was the best course by far; if only there was more to go around. The fresh cod, prepared in a traditional Catalan style, was quite underwhelming, oily and bitter in taste. Because the portions were so tiny, we ordered two rounds of sandwiches (bocadillos) with Iberian ham and brie. The ham was phenomenal as usual, but was strongly overpowered by the sheer amount of gooey cheese.
InterTapa is definitely worth a try if you find yourself hungry for traditional Catalan cuisine near Guadi's magnum opus. But you'll likely find more memorable fare elsewhere in Barcelona. read more
