Over the past year I have used Certified Indoor Air on multiple occasions to inspect for mold and pull general air samples at facility where I work. After the sample results came back Bill Dolch did an good job of explaining how to read and interpret the chart data and graphs. STAY AWAY!!!!! I do not know how Mr. Dolch started out in business as I saw a lot of decent reviews but let me say it has QUICKLY deteriorated. I called Mr. Dolch requesting third party testing. We discussed one price over the phone and when it was all done it was a different price. He came and did an "okay" inspection. I would not say that it was as good as others described and maybe it was due to him knowing when he got started that I was not trying to spend more than we had originally discussed. When he found this out he just kind of hurried along with everything so to speak and was not as "detail" oriented. He completely by passed all of the rest of the rooms without even looking at them, even though he was supposed to be "inspecting" my whole house. He gave me all of this big talk about how his tests come out of Florida which is one of the biggest in the air quality testing industry. When I got back my report it said TEXAS not FLORIDA. When I called to ask about how long it would take after the initial turn around had passed he informed me that he thought he gave me the tests results days prior to and explained them which he didn't. So the tests had been with him and he forgot that he didn't even give me notice, contact me or anything after that they arrived. The tests were taken on Thursday, they came back Friday and I didn't get them until after I emailed him on Tuesday in regards to the testing. He promised to advocate for me stating I paid him and he was here to tell whoever needed to know the conditions and what was going on which was a lie. He told me one thing and told them another. When I called him again for additional test results he went on about needing to do more invasive testing and that he would need to pull that floor, do more testing, probably remediate it as he has a mold remediation business as well. He asked how many test did I need for this round beginning to ramble off numbers and I told him "two". He then went on to say that his trip charge would go from $20 to $99 for the second visit which made absolutely no sense to me and was ridiculous. To sum him up, Mr. Dolch is a scam, a con, he will try and get you to pay more for things YOU DO NOT NEED, when he saw he couldn't angle me that way, his attitude quickly shifted. Let me say that I felt the need to watch them the whole time as I had a feeling they would not have done what they did do if I wasn't present and would have tried to come up with an even larger bill. Mr. Dolch is FAR from the best in the industry. When I hire people I expect honesty, integrity and people to be a person of their word and Mr. Dolch presented nor stood beside any of these characteristics. Telling me oh I didn't talk about the more invasive work from the beginning because you said you were on a budget??? An honest inspector will tell you their findings regardless of whether you can afford it or not, even if that means finding someone else to do the job etc. His interest ONLY PEAKED when I began to talk about paying him MORE money. Choose him at your own risk! UPDATE: Sir, you are a flat out liar. You told me that you would only know if the floor was damaged (which it was) if you pulled it. You said that you would need to pull it and do "more invasive" testing. Only when I didn't hire you to do it and decided to do it myself to save money you backed out of what you originally said as there wasn't any money in it for you. The only reason why the tests the second time around "were cheaper" was because I wasn't getting all of the same tests. Your trip charge went from $20 to $99 in a few days. At this time gas was barely over a dollar and you weren't all that far from me. I had just paid you almost $500. You were just being GREEDY! I hope you stop scamming and lying to people. That you do not allow "the business" to further turn you into a rip off and a person who can not be trusted in the industry with a bad name. Furthermore, my experience is similar to some of your other reviewers so I know everyone isn't lying. You can keep responding and I will keep telling those who read reviews how much of a scam you are. Word of mouth and reviews hit businesses hard and a lot of businesses know that. Just by looking at a review many will choose to do business elsewhere are people are TIRED of being RIPPED OFF as I was in this situation. ALSO, IF YOU LOOK AT THE REVIEWS THAT ARE "NOT RECOMMENDED AT THE BOTTOM OF THE PAGE, YOU CAN SEE WHERE HE REVIEWED HIS OWN BUSINESS, POSING AS A CUSTOMER AND SUPPOSEDLY RECEIVED SERVICES... If you're looking for a thorough inspection, this is who you want to call. I had 2 other inspectors out before calling Certified Indoor Air and neither conducted nearly as complete an inspection. They identified many sources of mold that that the others missed and provided explanations for why these issues were occurring and how to address them. These guys are knowledgable about the types of testing needed to get accurate answers with no upsells. Also, super fast turnaround on tests. I had my results in 24 hours. 10/10 read more

Nothing is more important that clean air and knowing your home is clean. I have used Certified Indoor Air twice, for two different properties. They take particular care to get quality samples and results come back in just a couple of days. Bill, the owner, each time took time to speak with me about the results in detail. Unfortunately, we had a disappointing experience with Certified Indoor Air. We contacted them to conduct an ERMI test at our house as that is something that was listed as one of their services. ERMI kits are available online for roughly $400 but I wanted a professional to do the swabs. Bill email us an estimate which read verbatum, " The assessment consists of Home inspection, collection of samples, laboratory analysis, and a final written report. The cost is $699." We set an appointment with Bill and his son to perform the testing. They were at our house for close to 5 hours inspecting and collecting the samples. When they were done, they mentioned that they had everything they needed for ERMI but each of their additional tests would be $99, which I thought was outrageous because that wasn't what their original estimate indicated. The next day they sent us a complete breakdown of the samples collected, and the estimate for all the testing suddenly came up to $2893! Nothing even close to the original $699 quote! After some back-and-forth messaging, we agreed to proceed with the 2nd floor ERMI ($699) and 2 source mold samples ($99 each), for a total of $1095. When we were paying to Bill over the phone, I did mention that we were disappointed that there were all these additional costs added to the original estimate and that we would have liked that communicated to us before the testing, and he said nothing. He was silent on the phone. He didn't explain why the original quote was so off. The communication with Certified Indoor Air wasn't easy either. I had some questions for Bill while waiting for the results, and he only responded to some. Some questions were ignored. The narrative report Certified Indoor Air sent to us was pretty comprehensive. Over 25 pages. However, the report indicated that Prism Analytical Technologies Inc. evaluated some samples, but when I emailed Bill and asked to see the Prism results because they weren't in the report, he said it was a mistake and that testing wasn't performed. When we called Bill and his son to discuss the ERMI results, particularly, the results relating to "black mold" (we basically asked to validate ERMI's conclusion that black mold is not a concern at our house because that particular species of mold wasn't highlighted in the ERMI report as high), they kept pushing for us to take immediate steps and avoided to confirm that black mold isn't a concern. We got a very negative vibe from them. We thought they were more financially-motivated than helpful in assessing the situation at our house. Overall, I think they do extensive testing and devote a lot of time to check everything. I just wish they were honest about the pricing in advance of coming out and helped to understand the situation without trying to benefit financially by using scare tactics and jump on remediation with them. read more

In October 2020, Mr. Dolch and his son came immediately after we contacted them about mold in a rental house where our son lived in Chapel Hill. They were very courteous. It took a bit longer than I had hoped for him to get us the complete report, including lab results -- I think about 3 weeks. However, when the report came in, it was thorough and did the job. Eventually, the landlord agreed to release us from the contract so that we could move into someplace new and clean. Prior to seeing the report, including photos, the landlord had refused to let us out of the lease. We were trapped by a slumlord, and the report by Certified Indoor Air, along with knowing the building codes for Chapel Hill, established that living there was a health risk. read more

If you are looking for a mold inspector or someone to address other various indoor air quality concerns, do yourself a favor and stick with Certified Indoor Air! Because I have been experiencing health problems that are likely related to mold and mycotoxin exposure, I could not afford to risk my health on a sub-par inspector. I researched company after company and called all around town and am confident you will not find another inspector in the area (and probably the state) who will do as thorough of an inspection as they provide! Most inspectors spend 20 minutes to an hour "pretending" to look for signs of mold...ultimately missing key signs of water damage, giving missed mold the chance to keep wreaking havoc in undiscovered places. We were blown away that David and Brian (Bill's sons) spent HOURS in our home taking measurements in all the right places with his moisture meter, checking for signs of past water damage, and taking very calculated samples to give us the data we needed to put the puzzle pieces together. Bill is always accessible to answer (my many) questions and helpful explain the lab reports in a simple to understand way. We have already referred them to friends in the area and are excited to continue to have them in our corner throughout the rest of this process.
