The work Dolby performed on our brass and silver was excellent. Having said that, I would NEVER do business with him again. The agreed upon timeframe for completion of work stretched from 3 weeks to 3 months, with repeated excuses of health and heat issues. Heat issues, because he works out of two storage units, while his website shows a storefront building as his headquarters. If you do venture to contract with him for services, DO NOT pay in advance, a sure-fire built-in delay factor. As executor for an estate I am probating, in advance of an estate sale, two months ago I hired David Dolby to clean/polish some items of silver to be sold. He was very congenial and accommodating when we met, and because the reviews on his website were so glowing, I felt comfortable with giving him the silver items and a check for $300. I called him 3 weeks later to let him know of the dates for the sale and he assured me he would have the job completed and returned to me before the sale. A week before the sale, having heard nothing from him, I called again and was told that the work had been completed except for putting a coat of lacquer on the pieces. I reminded him that I had specifically stated to NOT put lacquer on the pieces and said I would pick up the items. He said he would deliver the next day. He did not show up, and when I called again, he assured me he would deliver the following day. He did not show up again. I called several times again with excuse after excuse and refusal to allow me to pick up the pieces. The estate sale came and went with no delivery and no further word from him. I have since done some research and found a number of reviews citing a pattern consistent with what I have experienced. I urge anyone to read the complaints posted on the Better Business Bureau's website for David's business. Mr. Dolby was referred to me by a friend who had some recent work done by him. My friend's items turned out beautiful so I sent an old brass chandelier with prisms and 2 candelabras that I have wanted to refinish and use, just never got around to it. He did a beautiful job on my items as well. I will post pictures once I hang up the chandelier He has a quick turnaround, does beautiful work, and he is a GREAT PERSON! I cannot begin to describe what a wonderful job this company did on our two trays this past week. One was silver, one brass, but both were almost black with tarnish. David came to the house to give an estimate. He was incredibly polite, friendly, and knowledgeable. After we accepted his offer, he put them in his truck and promised to return them soon. Today the trays came back. I was sitting in the living room this afternoon when a bright flash of light hit my eyes. I looked to see if the sun had come out and saw David holding my brass tray while getting the other out of the back. The brass was reflecting the light so strongly that I quickly looked away. Then when David brought the trays inside, we were in awe. They looked brand new. The silver tray shines like a mirror. Unfortunately I don't see a place to add photos on yelp, but I truly cannot imagine how any professional could have done a better job than David did. I will never use anyone else for this type of service, and cannot recommend him fervently enough to others. read more

I am sorry to say that my experience with David Dolby has not a good one. While he came across as a very personable, trusting business man, I found out this is not the case. I took three family heirlooms to him to polish and restore in early January, expecting to get them back within the three weeks he indicated they would be ready. Almost nine weeks later and after many misleading phone calls and texts about the status of this project and how beautiful they were already looking, I became suspicious because of all the excuses and mistruths I was fed from David. I went to his business location and wanted to see the pieces and he would not allow me to look at them. After several more excuses, I agreed to wait outside in my car for him to touch them up. During this time, I could hear him using his polishing tools on the items. He came out of his shop with them and it was very obvious he had done nothing to them until I was literally there waiting. I am not one to tolerate being lied to and for him to do this over and over again was very concerning. I was very disappointed that he thought he could treat me this way, probably the same thing he does to his other customers as well. Foolishly, I paid a deposit in January when I left the pieces with him and now I know I was rooked, based on the amount of work he did not do as repeatedly promised. I left his shop with my three unfinished pieces after he continued to try to talk me into trusting him with more empty promises that he could have them ready if I just gave him a little more time. My patience was gone at that point and being lied to for all these weeks has totally ended any desire to do any business with David Dolby in the future. If you decide to have him restore your valuables, beware. Smooth talking is the name of his game and he is not the truthful, godly business man that he professes to be. It is very unfortunate because I really thought he was a nice guy. His deceit and procrastination certainly changed my perception of him and any plans of doing business with him again. I have already found another polishing company to restore the pieces. . . . sorry David. read more
