Staff extremely polite but clearly overwhelmed, but that's to be understood as the amount of customers served will reflect on their wages. The environment is neat and organized, noise level is low, and seating is ample. Drinks are about par, none of the refreshments advertised as natural juices are in fact natural. Hen soup was prepared extremely well, temperature and appearance exceptional. Portion about average but left something to be desired. Rice cooked perfectly and tortillas seemed to be fresh. 2nd entree, rice & beans cooked, fantastically, eggs made to order were done as requested and the side order of churrasco steak, although cooked correctly lacked in flavor and a faint rancid tang savored your mouth after every bite! It was a busy night, so hopefully that explains why the food took so long. I ordered puntas de filete con salsa jalapeña. When the meat came out, it was not hot (more like room-temperature)...same thing happened to my family with their carne asada order. I didn't care too much but my dad sent it back to get reheated and they gladly did. Before my food, I had a quesillo appetizer (see pic) and it was sooo good! Some of the best authentic Nicaraguan food in the 305 ! My husband and I both are from Nicaragua, so we know the good stuff. We have been skeptical on trying this place because it is always packed but they got us a table right away and a high chair for my baby. I ordered lomo de cerdo a la parilla with gallo pinto and maduro. My husband ordered churrasco con gallo pinto queso frito y tostones. We also got cacao and shared a maracuya con naranja to try it. It was fantastic. We ordered our baby frijoles líquido, since she still hasn't sprouted teeth. The frijoles were so tasty and mushed really really well. She loved them and felt apart of our lunch ! She is now passed out in a food coma :) overall I do recommend this place, the service is really nice and its a family oriented restaurant. My family and I will be coming back here. PS, we saw the server pass by with a plate of breakfast and we are thinking about coming here tomorrow morning. Its that good ! I've been consistently coming to Cerro Negro for a few months and I have to say the quality of the food is super good and has not dwindled. You can get a carne asada with two accompanying dishes for $10.89 for lunch and dinner. Trust me, you will be full. We usually take some for left overs. Their cafe con leches are pretty good too. This place is kind of a no frills short and tshirt kind of a place but definitely more upscale than a fritanga. Oh and they always bring your beer in an icey frosty delicious mug! Win! read more

I ordered a fish filet with Tipitapa sauce. It was a total disappointment. The fish filet was breaded and it was too hard to cut it with the knife. The plate was broken missing a good inch of the edge of the plate. I'm addition it was a sharp edge. My advise to potential customers is not to order the fish filet with Tipitapa sauce. I mention my disappointment to the server and she just said that the owner has been made aware of the broken plates but the owner said to continue using the plates if is only a little piece missing. Been going here since i was a kid. The service is slow, food is okay. This restaurant needs to hire more people. Waiters also usually talk to each other and forget to check on their table if they need anything. Need to make the place bigger since on busy days the wait is so slow. read more

Visited the the restaurant regularly. The food was very good. We almost always had the same server. We recently visited, and were one of the last customers. The usual waitress charged my credit card 2 times. Did not even mention anything. We found out when we saw it on our statement. We I called the restaurant, and asked to speak with the manager, I explained what happened, and instead of listening to what occurred, he began to get defensive, raised his voice at me, and started telling me that they do not steal people's money! Then he continued with this nasty attitude over the phone. Had to contact the bank, and file a claim against the restaurant. Excellent Nicaraguan restaurant. The grainy Cacao con leche ($2.25) was well-made compared with other places. However, it's just not a drink I love. An acquired taste - I like mine thick like the Venezuelan chicha. The comparison with the more-watery horchata is a fair comparison. Chachon con yuca ($5.00) are pork chunks similar to the Cuban masas de puerco, but the flavor was better and the pork was not dried. For an appetizer, I was expecting a smaller plate, but it became my evening meal! Affordable, nicer-than-a-fritanga ambience, sit-down restaurant, excellent service, plentiful parking, made-to-order food makes this Nicaraguan restaurant one of the best I've been to. Let me tell you something...No matter what name they have on the business, they are still consistently serving the best Nicaraguan breakfast in town...with service. Eggs scrambled with Nica sausage, tortilla, cuajada (soft white cheese), and gallo pinto. (They do give you several choices of accompaniments, but that is what I always go for). I always ask for a side order of Crema (Nica sour cream) to slather all over my rice along with their picante sauce (learned this from my Nica friend). Went here last week during a chilly spring break and the chilly weather convince me to resist ordering my churrasco to finally try the soups I'd heard about. Their soups are HUGE and have that homemade goodness that brings on waves of nostalgia. They come in metal pots that you would use to cook on the stove and they're packed with loads of meat and root veggies (yucca, malanga, etc) and big pieces of auyama/orange squash with the peel still on, Nica style. I had the sopa de gallina (hen) and my boyfriend had rabito (oxtail). It was pretty crazy because the oxtail soup tasted very similar to ktiew (the Cambodian version of pho) broth and it reminded us both of home :). The sopa de gallina was tomato based, fyi. Both soups had the tastiest yucca I've ever tasted. Yum!! If you can finish these soups, you are a beast!! If you're going for soup, skip the appetizers. By the way, I would go for the oxtail if I ever went to order soup again because, despite how good the sopa de gallina was, I'm funny about tomato-based soups and I LOVED how the oxtail reminded me of the delicious ktiew I used to get at home. The nacatamal was still as delicious as ever!! My boyfriend couldn't resist his nacatamal craving. He always looks forward to those. If you decide to order one, maybe you should do it take-out because it could seriously be a meal on its own with all of that meat and such. UPDATE: I tried the bandeja de costillas (on mistake, actually...I meant to get the grilled costillas) and, although I really don't like fried meats, it was DELICIOUS! Very flavorful and juicy. Cerro Negro is a nice little place located inside a shopping mall. I will not give a 1 nor a 2 star due to the fact the some of the food is good. However, the only downside is that I have been experiencing with my family for the past couple of months is the carry out orders. We always asked them "do not add yuca to our soup" and thats the first thing they add. Just yesterday, we had another carry out that is supposedly to feed two people. That wasn't the case. It brought 5 little pieces of meat, half quest frito cut into small pieces, 4 big pieces of yuca, they must love selling yuca, and one tortilla cut in 4 small pieces. Nicaragua Jesus probably works there cutting the Tortilla in small pieces feed the disciples, and maduro frito. If this is meant to feed two people, dang... I am missing something. Local Fritangas give you a whole plate that you can feed two people for less the amount in price. In all fairness, the only reason I eat from this place is because my parents are the ones that order the food, but this is the last place I'd like to go eat nicaraguan food. read more

I've been coming to this restaraunt for many years and the food has always been great and so has the service. But today was a big embarrassment. I ordered the pork ribs and the first rib tasted AMAZING. I took a bite of the send piece and it was FROZEN. It was no colder than the cup of cold water I was drinking. I felt bad for my waitress because she has always been great to me and she is very polite and courteous. But it is very disgusting and unsafe to be serving cold pork to anyone.
