Fuuuuuuuck century link! I will never use this service provider again!! 2 years ago I moved into an apartment that required me to use Century Link and DirectTV. The whole year I lived there my boyfriend was unable to connect to the WiFi on his phone which he needed for work. Then we rented a house, I transferred services to our new location in hope it would be better. We only kept the WiFi service and canceled the DirectTV portion since we only stream things. When doing so, I was told I would receive a new modem. Then a week went by and I called in asking about be the new modem I was told about, then was told 'oh your not getting a new mode just use the same one', so we did. For the 2 years we lived at this location the WiFi dragged and disconnected many times. We would go weeks without any internet connection. When we would call in about connection issues, none of the customer service reps even knew what we were talking about nor how to fix our problems. Finally they would sent out a technician just to inform us other technicians were removing our connect from the community electric box and replacing it with others. This happened about 2-3 times to us. When my boyfriend and I decided to move out of our renter and purchase our own home we decided to stop dealing with century link because of their poor service and communication. I called and canceled the services and set up with Cox. The cancellation went smoothly and the sales rep didn't try to save me as a customer in anyway..not that it would've worked. Now a week later into my new home I receive a welcome letter in the mail from Century Link. Thanking me for signing up for DirectTV as a stand alone service..I NEVER ASKED FOR DIRECT TV AS A SERVICE!! The letter provides the date it was set up, the order number, a new account number and a access code. The letter also states if I have any questions to contact Century Link at 866-450-6152. Nothing on the letter states to contact DirectTC at any point. When I closed my account the sneaky fucking sales rep took it upon himself to set me up with a service I never asked for. Yesterday I sat on the phone for an hour being transferred multiple times between many Century Link reps and Direct TV agents. Every time I called I would start in the billing department. Century Links billing department would inform me since Century Link sent the letter and and set up the services they are to close it then I would be transferred to a customer service rep to cancel the service. The customer service reps claimed my WIFi account was close (which I have viewed online) and there was no active account for me and I need to contact DirectTV directly to cancel the service that Century Link set up then they would transfer me to Direct TV without allowing me to say anymore on the matter. They never asked what was on the letter I received. Direct tv stated they could not locate an active account, all they could find was my old apt account that has been closed for 2 years and the account number I was provided my welcome letter was a Century Link account number and they cant pull up any of that information. On another round of transfers with Century Link an agent could not locate the account number located on my welcome letter and provided me with a Direct TV account number but when being transferred to DirectTV once again it still was invalid. This kept going on till they closed at 6pm and I would get disconnected. Today I attempted all this again, this time I requested for supervisors, the agents avoided getting me a superior and attempted to transfer me to Direct TV again! I was able to get the reps attention before he cold transferred me and demanded a Century Link supervisor. He placed me on hold and tried to deescalate the situation by telling me he was able to finally locate the account number that was on welcome letter but there was nothing for him to do on his end. So I said 'awesome, I want your supervisor now since you can't do anymore.' The agent finally got me online with a supervisor and she began claiming there was nothing for Century Link as a company to do anything since the service I want to cancel is for Direct TV not them and they can only set up the services and Direct TV has to cancel them. The same bullshit I got the day prior. She offered to transfer me to Direct TV (like everyone prior) but this time she would stay on the line. During my wait the call got disconnected and I decided to call Direct TV once more. On that call, the agent was unable to provide me any information because none of the 3 addresses I have lived at was valid to him... I requested a Direct TV supervisor and he began telling me no one at Direct TV can cancel the services that Century Link has set up. Here we are full circle. Both companies keep advising me I wont get a bill and they better hope I don't because I'm tried of this bullshit. This is why I canceled my services!! I am in century link for years, and close my account due to going out of the country for 2 months, but came back after a month and re open my account... with new account been using it (internet) for 4months, in 4 months I been calling them for like 4-5 times due to my Internet is being very slow, and at my 7th month I receive a collection notice that I owe 100 something dollar (for the router) so I called them right away and ask that's up with that, and told them why sending me in collection my account still active at least send me a letter first or give me a call concerning my account why they will put me in collection or comfirm the account holder first or give a warning letter before send the account in collection.. but no , I received a letter that my account is already in collection, so I called them and representative told me the collection is for the router..router??? Router that I'm using from day one when I open my first account to them until today. **first when I re open my account I told them I still have the router from my old account and ask if I can still it for my new account (day 1 before I activate my new account) , so the representative told me yes absolutely, so I did.. but still they sent me new (refurbished) router.. *^that router still in the box remained un open (sealed)(I never use it) Anyways representative told me just send the router and they will fix or give the credit back/close that I owe nothing... So in short .. I sent router back called them and spoke to different, different representative (like 8 person) and give the tracking number and confirm my situation. . And told me ok, nothing to worry no more... but still I called them the next day after I sent the router and gAve the tracking number to make sure everything is clear and no collection going to my credit report (I'm very consern to my credit score) working my ass off to build my credit.. representative told me "again" ok we all got the info nothing to worry this will be fix.. **that was my last call to them (called them multiple times) So I feel relief after my last call... But after 4 weeks.... I checked (I keep monitoring my credit score weekly thru credit karma) my credit and my score get lowered 26 points (I'm expecting to get more points) I was shocked and check why ,how come .. and see the changes... I was so like wtf I see the century link is in collection tab. WTF that collection lowered my points for 26points (expecting plus points) that was 3am (yesterday) so can't call centurylink , early morning 9-10am something (as soon as I get up) I called centurylink , and discussed my situation, and yes they received the router 3 weeks ago, and can't answer why that fucking collection is in my credit report, all she told me is all she can do is take that collection out after 30days... WTF is that ??? First I called and fix that to prevent go thru my credit score and then what happened to all those representatives that I spoke to and said it's ok nothing to worry WE WILL FIX IT???? and this happened I don't think this is right, what's the use of my call before (negotiations and stuff, what ever that called) (sorry I'm not really good in english (speaking/writing) but I 100% understand) This is Bullshit, speaking/calling/talking to multiple representatives do nothing ... Don't walk, RUN away from this dirty, dishonest company as fast as you can. Throw away any promotional garbage they give you, because even if they are the cheaper option in your area, it is not worth the hours (yes HOURS) spent on hold, the multiple transfers with more hold time and the complete and utter unwillingness of any of their employees to help and come to a fair decision with you. They are quick to take your money (which I gave, on auto pay, on-time every month), but if something goes wrong you WILL be up a creek without a paddle. In the short time I lived at my home, I have had at least three instances where I have been without internet for more than 10 days- with the most recent incident being THREE WEEKS. I do not live in a remote area- I live in the middle of Phoenix. Now, I understand that things break and stuff happens, but as a working professional who relies on an at-home internet connection to do my job, these types of repair delays are not acceptable (Honestly, it's not acceptable for ANY paying customer). When it began to affect my livelihood and that of my renters, I decided to call and cancel to join a more reliable service. I was quickly informed by the rep that I owed $200 for canceling in the 7th month of my 2 year service contract. Interesting, because the agreement I entered was to pay for service faithfully for two years and receive internet from Century Link for two years with minimal downtime needed to fix issues as they came up. As far as I'm aware, Century Link broke that contract by neglecting to provide me service for extended periods of time, MULTIPLE times; therefore, allowing me to exit that contract due to their negligence in upholding their part of our contract. According to their rep though "that's not in the rules" and "they don't waive those ever." Upon respectfully asking for a supervisor to plead my (sensible) case, I was also informed that "he's busy but he won't take your call because we don't do that." That's no way to treat a customer who has been loyal to you for years. I was also told they (miraculously) showed no evidence of outages on my account; later finding out that they had incorrectly recorded my account information with no less than two other accounts, even when verifying my address and last four numbers of my SSN with literally EVERY rep I talked to during EVERY interaction. Please, tell your family and friends to avoid this nonsense and stick to a more caring, fair and reliable service, because even if they offered to pay for my service for the rest of my life, I would still gladly pay another company to handle my business. read more

Have been a Centurylink customer for 2.5 years and honestly I do not know why I have stuck with them. Must just be through laziness that I have not yet taken plunge and tried out the competitor's service. The only positive thing I can say about Centurylink is that my 40MB internet service works, but seriously that's all. Due to recent events (described in detail further below) I can say that I will now definitely be changing internet and telephone service! First of all, echoing other comments, their customer service is absolutely horrific. On almost every occasion I have called their customer service I have been bounced around between service agents. Competence of the service agents seems to vary widely. But, to top it off, I recently noticed a dent in my credit rating. On investigating this I found out that Centurylink had forwarded a two year old charge for the modem to a collection agency. After hours of frustrating calls with Centurylink's customer service I was able to determine that problem had likely arisen when I transferred my service from my old address to my present address. I had explicitly instructed them to transfer the monthly modem lease charge to my new account, but they apparently didn't do that and instead sent a bill for the modem to my old address which I of-course never received. Despite fact that Centurylink had a record that I had transferred service (old address, new address, etc.) they never contacted me about the charge for the modem. Now I have a collection record on my credit to deal with! I have got absolutely nowhere on this matter after repeated, highly frustrating attempts with their customer service. Been bounced around like there is no tomorrow! Finally I gave up and visited their store in person in Chandler. The girl there was able to at-least transfer the past due amount from my old, closed account to my new account so that I could pay it. However, now that the past due amount has appeared in my new account there is absolutely no record or explanation for the charge that I can use as proof of payment! On approaching the Centurylink store again the next day to make more enquires about the past-due charge and how to best deal with it the staff were much less tolerant and frankly very arrogant. They were completely unable to see my side of the story and/or completely disinterested. What is so utterly frustrating is that this situation is Centurylink's responsibility in the first place! Being that there is a monopoly on internet services and you can either go with Century Link or Cox (who may not be much better) I don't know what options customers have. But here is my bad experiences with Century Link in Tempe so far. I began internet service with Century Link in December and made every attempt to know exactly what my bill would be for the next 12 months of my contract. However I just noticed that the February and March bills were higher due to Century Link increasing the modem lease fee by $1 per month. It took a lot of searching to find the online link to the small print on the January bill where they notified me of the increase. Now that I have found that small print, I see on the March bill they will increase the internet recovery fee by $1 per month too starting in April. I am stuck in a contract for 12 months, but on the corporation's side they can just keep increasing fees and not stick to the original agreed upon prices. In addition, in the 2nd month of my contract I also saw my bill go up $10. It took a long time on the phone with representatives to find out that my bill increased because I did not sign up for autopay. Apparently I had to sign up for paperless billing AND autopay in order to get the agreed upon contract price, but no one told me that when I originally signed up for service. In order to get a $10 refund and have my proper monthly price, I was forced to sign up for autopay which I feel uncomfortable doing because they can charge whatever they want and take it right out of my bank account before I notice any changes. ONE of the representatives on this journey to get this issue resolved was very nice, but even he accidentally emailed me the transcript of someone else's chat conversation instead of my own, he was apparently very overworked. There were also installation issues and repair problems in the very beginning, but I won't go into detail there because they were all eventually resolved after calls and efforts on my part to get it fixed... and Century link did offer a credit for the days when the service was not working. In summary, with Century Link, expect to call customer service nearly every month which is no fun, and also expect your bill to go up every month. read more

"They really need to implement a zero star rating....they don't even deserve one star. After having centurylink for 2 years, only because of the contract, even though the service itself was dismal at best, and multiple calls to their customer service (being on hold most times over 30 minutes) not helping. We finally cancelled and went back to Cox. So centurylink/direct tv send a box to return the equipment, which we fill with all the tv components and modem, and mail it back. A moth later we get a ridiculous bill for over $300 for all the equipment. So we call them, wait on hold the customary 30+ minute wait, only to be transferred around like crazy, waiting 10 minutes each time. The rep states they didn't receive anything. We give them the tracking number that shows that they did in fact have it, and the name of the person who signed for it. Oh now they see that they have it, so sorry. Rep states our bill is zero and were good. End of story? Not a chance. 10 months later we get a bill for over $100 dollars from a collection agency! WTF? we call centurylink...again, and wait on hold...again. Rep says they didn't receive the modem. Well, we put it in the box with the rest of the equipment, you stated you have it all, and were good now....10 months ago. They said that was probably for the direct tv stuff only...well, when I set up service with centurylink, I only dealt with them, why would I think I have to send everything separate?? You send me a box, I fill it, I return it. Why wouldn't your company have a plan for people that send the modem in the only box sent, to directtv? And why the hell would you wait 10 months with zero communication and then all of a sudden send it off to collection, with zero communication with us? Long story short, they can kiss my butt on the $100 they think we owe them, ill take the point or two deduction on my credit score. This is the most incompetent company I have ever dealt with, and that's saying a lot because I thought Cox Cable was before switching to this nightmare. After having my bill mysteriously go up by 100% for reasons unknown, I called. They informed me I was on some type of promotion that had expired and if I wanted to bring my bill back down closer to where it was before I would have to bundle services and have them add phone service. I have not had a land line in over 10 years, but if that's what I needed to do, I agreed to have them sell me their 8-track tape player (phone service) to bring the bill back down. That was several months ago, since that time I have had to call, and wait on hold a half dozen times, to try to get someone to figure out how to operate their computer system because now my bill is even higher than it was after their "promotion" ended. After calling again just now and being placed on hold while they tried to figure out how to apply a credit I was told there was a glitch in their system and I would need to call back tomorrow after they figured out what the problem was...I kid you not. Judging by the other reviews, I can see I am not alone in my assessment of this horrible company. These people should not even be in business. But of course I am under a contract to stay with them for 7 more months, another scam to keep people from canceling because if it were not for their contract, they wouldn't have any customers. Someone needs to start an Internet company here in the Phoenix area to compete against Century Link and Cox and provide good service and put both of these shysters out of business. read more

I have used Century Link DSL for one year now. I subscribe to the 1.5mbps service to the tune of about $45 a month after taxes and other expenses. Here's the real scoop on Century Link DSL: They advertise 1.5mpbs service. For that you pay around $45 a month. What you get is about 0.22mbps (or less). The ONLY thing that comes to you at the rated speed are speed test web pages, everything else is slowed down to the real speed around 0.22mbps (or less), not the 1.5mbps you are charged for. 0.22mbps is roughly 3-4 times dial-up speed (or less), roughly 1998 (or older) technology. They advertise 2005 technology, price it at 2017 rates but deliver 1998 performance. Their entire advertising and marketing of DSL service is a LIE! CL is in my opinion, dishonest. So here's my idea. If you work for any local retailer and a CL employee hires you to shampoo their office carpets in four rooms, you only clean one room but charge full price. If they complain, ask them why it's okay for them to do the exact same thing every hour of every day to their customers but when someone does it to them, suddenly it's wrong. Would you buy gas at a station that charged you $3.50 a gallon but only actually pumped one quart? Would you buy a full priced six-pack of beer knowing each can was only one quarter full? Would you buy a dozen roses and be content when only three got delivered? If you buy CL DSL service this is exactly what you're doing. Welcome to Century Link. We were looking to cut the cable after every year being hit with price increases. We were paying 200USD for cable TV and internet. When we wanted to just have internet, at a reasonable speed for our needs, it would still cost 89USD plus taxes and other fees. After finding out that most of the channels we watch have digital signals that can be captured free with a high quality antenna, and a capable receiver, turned off our cable service. We signed up with CenturyLink for up to 40mbps price for life/no contract/ month to month plan that was on sale for 45USD and rented a modem for 10USD per month. Our bill is just under 56USD per month, automatically taken from our bank account every 30 or so days. I did have a bit of trouble getting customer service after the system kept dropping. What was found out was that the phone cable they sent us was faulty. We happened to have one, and used it. After calling customer service again, and waiting for 20 minutes, they re did the remote test and everything was good. After running a ping/speed test, we find that we get what we paid for and just a bit more after the fix. Today the new cable came in but we see no reason to change what we have. If CenturyLink improved the time it takes to get a customer service person on the line, they would be the best. read more

Junction box at Garrigans Gulch & Rincon Mesa Vail, AZ - The repair techs leave their discarded wires all over the ground - it looks like someone puked rainbow spaghetti all over the ground. This junction box is right at an elementary school bus stop. Want to take a guess at what the kids do with those wires. Especially dangerous are the wires with the plastic beads on the end. It's amazing none of the kids have been seriously hurt yet. I have talked to the repair folks at the 1-800 number 3 times (hold time of up to 20 minutes). Can't get a hold of a local manager, not for a lack of trying. I have talked to techs working onsite. AND I even left a bunch of wires tied to the fence of a local substation (Old Spanish Trail and Camino Loma Alta, Vail) with a note to clean up after themselves. I have been trying to get this resolved for a year. What kind of ignorant slob leaves their garbage all over the ground at a repair site. Well, that would be CL repair techs. And apparently the techs know about the problem the last tech I talked to said he has told his manager, BUT he didn't pick up the wires and he wouldn't take them from me. I had take them home with me in my car and throw them away at my house. read more

Quite literally the WORST company I've ever had the misfortune of working with. Unfortunately my apartment complex doesn't give me the choice to use them, so I can't switch to Cox (or else I would have eons ago). All I need them to do is to flip a switch on their end to turn my internet on, as I did all of the setup on my end by myself - so the day they're supposed to turn on my internet, I called them and asked why they hadn't turned it on yet, only to find out that they cancelled the 'service install' without telling me, and rescheduled it for three weeks later! I'm an electrical engineer by trade that sets up networks for a living, and for them to schedule something that takes less than 10 minutes for more than three weeks later is absolutely ridiculous. Not to mention I'm forced to work from home due to COVID and need internet in order to do my job. So thanks to CenturyLink, I'm paying for an apartment that I can't even live in, and have been sleeping on friends' couches just so I can do my job. WORST. COMPANY. EVER. If I could give them 0 star I would! Worst service ever! They don't honor their rates and are thiefs. I am ready to take it to courts with them! When I first got the line they said it was 50 dollars for internet but after signing up never was I billed a $50! All my bills were between $170-200 which is ridiculous! I called endlessly and went to their location and finally they apologize and gave me the new plan which is the $45 and credited me with a 265 dollars since they overcharge me . I traveled abroad and returned to a permanently disconnected line and a mail saying if not paid in full it will be reported to collections! What happen to my credit?? And now I am the one being reported from a bunch of thiefs! I called them and was on call for 3HRS passing me from one person to the other and yet nothing and finally line was disconnected after 3HRS! Horrible customer service horrible company!!! Lying Criminals. Their reps change their deal every time you talk to them and they know it. They break every deal they make. The quality of people they have has reduced to garbage. I used to love this company. But, it has become the most idiotic system I've ever dealt with. Customer service is gone. The game is to confuse you until you give up. Every year you lose your deal and have to renegotiate. The customer retention team's mission is to do nothing for you over and over again until (again) you give up. All the time on the phone must cost them a lot of paychecks. It would be so much easier to just keep the deal as good as it can be for the customer. I bet it would be cheaper too. I had to wait a long time for underground cable repair, but it was worth it. I am very happy with century link. It works as well or better than COX at half the price! Cox was always hitting me up for higher monthly fees due to DATA LIMIT issues. With Century Link I get the same data limit as the expensive Cox plan and don't have to pay for speeds that my router cannot deliver anyway. I have been waiting 20 years for someone to finally compete with Cox. Thanks Century Link. I have wanted to ditch the Monopoly Cox for ages and now I can! Cox acts like they OWN their customers. They have the "WEAR YOU DOWN" tactic as their modus oparendi, keeping you on hold for hours and transferirng you to departments that ultimately disconnect!!!
