So I got the transmission rebuilt in this location a little over a year ago. The month after the transmissions warranty expires the transmission goes out again, this time it caught on fire. Transmission repair took my truck there more than 2 months ago they called me after 8 weeks to tell me my truck was ready and running great I picked it up and it was the same if not worse from the moment I got in turned the key all the lights were blaring service light engine light I walked right back in didn't leave all of a sudden the manager wasn't there mind u I was right in front of the establishment never saw him leave so I proceed to drive 2 blocks to put gas the whole way there and back gears are hitting hard trucks like it's never been worked on I get back he's there I tell him the trucks not fixed he tells me drive it over the weekend and bring it Monday against my better judgment I left I had no way home took it on Monday they have it another week he calls me oh your truck is done it was programming which was done already supposedly in between calls another employee tells me there waiting for a part when I pick up the truck he tells me it was a wire and that it was a slight rubbing noise he thinks it might be the transfer case so let him know I proceed to drive it home we'll lord behold it doesn't have a slight rubbing noise it's worse than before I call him immediately from the truck he tells me he doesn't have room right now bring it Monday I'm assuming he loves mondays now my truck is back for the third time I call him he tells me I think it's electrical I said you said it was the transfer case now Irs electrical the scanner shows no codes for it so when I question it he say it doesn't show it all the time to top it off he signed my name on the receipt and check off the box where it says "DO NOT WANT REPLACED PARTS RETURNED TO ME" I'm so heated right now then he has the audacity to tell me I can take it somewhere else after he got paid over$3,500 read more

My car was on the fritz last year and my O/D Off light was blinking. Someone recommended I take it in to Frank's Auto Repair on Irving Park Road. Unfortunately for me, they didn't say they were going to farm out my car to Century Transmission until later, since they evidently don't know how to do transmission work themselves. Century rebuilt my transmission. I don't know how much of the $1500 price tag went to Frank's Auto Repair, or how much of the cut went to Century Transmission, but my car stopped running right again several months later. The O/D Off light was on again, and then a few days later my speedometer stopped working. I called Frank's Auto and they said to bring it in. Well, after I brought it in they had it towed over to Century Transmission. Both shops wanted more cash to figure out what was wrong. Giles at Frank's Auto repair told me it seemed like a "dashboard problem," so it wouldn't be under warranty. The warranty was supposed to be good for a year, and it had only been nine months. Since I didn't have the money to fix it and I had already spent so much, a friend took it to someone who is a registered mechanic, and has his own business, but doesn't have a brick and mortar shop. He hooked it up to his diagnostic machine, and it kept saying the sensors on the transmission were bad. We replaced two sensors, and also the speedometer, but that didn't fix the problem. My friend is out the money for those sensors, since you can't return them after you put them in a car, plus he spent money for the work that was done. We then took the car to another transmission shop who also said it appeared to be the sensors according to his diagnostic machine, and they also gave me an estimate to rebuild the transmission. I didn't tell them the transmission had been rebuilt, but they were able to tell from looking at it. They suggested if it was still under warranty, I should bring it back to whoever had rebuilt it! Well, do you see the problem? I was so frustrated that I started researching the problems my make and model car has online to see what other people encountered. Then when I was also pricing parts, a parts place suggested wires to the sensors sometimes melt, so I told a friend of mine that. He decided to look at the wires to my sensors, and found out that ONE WIRE TO THE SENSOR FOR MY TRANSMISSION APPEARED TO HAVE BEEN CLIPPED WITH A TOOL IN A STRAIGHT LINE part way through, in a spot where he felt wear would not have caused it, and it had eventually broken all the way. He went ahead and wrapped the wire and then the transmission worked again, as well as the speedometer. read more

Incredible service and honesty. This is the type of small business ownership that makes America go. You can talk to these guys, they aren't out to just rip you off. I called on Friday morning and explained the problem and he told me if that is the case, drop it off and it'll be done by 5 pm. It was. It was the price he quoted, the work was solid, they took it for a test drive and warranted my work. Joe is great to work with and doesn't give you a bunch of BS or try to sell you on unneeded service like you get at other transmission shops. He even showed me all of the parts he replaced without me even asking. His pricing was also very fair. I got estimates from 3 other places and he was on the lower end. We used to send our customers here to have transmission work done but never again. The final straw was when they were supposed to take care of a leaking differential by replacing the gasket on a customers car. They did so but didn't do it correctly so it began leaking much worse and it ran dry, out of oil, while they were on a trip completely ruining the differential. Joe at Century refused to take any responsibility wanting $1400 to $1600 to make the repair. When we asked if he'd provide some kind of discount he also refused to provide even a penny. I would like to start here I don't wright reviews because if I see something wrong I'm not going to places but this was my one of the biggest RIP OFF in my life!! I have to tell and advice everyone before to visit this smelly place! I've got recommendation on this service from my friend. When I came first time to find out what's wrong with my transmission owner of this business took a ride with me and told me to definitely rebuild it because kicking was horrible. I agreed and leave it my Dodge Caravan to them for 3 days how they set. When I picked up the car it was that freezing winter and car didn't seems OK but I've been told by mechanic that car has to drive 1000 miles to settled which is BS!! When I told him that car should be OK after repair they still argued that will be after 1000 miles. When I put 1000 miles on at came back and told them that car is still kicking they set to come after long winter because weather might be that problem see?( always F.. excuses) After long winter I came back again took a ride with owner and he says that kicking is normal, every vehicle do it and on top of it is old. Well I exceed guarantee miles which they just set it's anyway over. If I would advice everyone DON'T ever come here with problems they just rip you off and never repair right your vehicle. I bought a 3/4 ton 2004 GMC new and the trans went out just out twice. I got it rebuilt both times in Naperville. I asked them why the trans was such a problem and they had no answer. Later I bought a 2006 with almost the same trans (my mistake) which also went out. This time I took the trip from Aurora to Chicago to take it to Century on the recommendation of a friend. They rebuilt the trans for a better price, AND identified the cause of the problem, (overheating). They repaired it quickly, and installed a transmission cooler so the problem does not re-occur. Hopefully I will never have a bad trans on any vehicle ever again, but if I do, they are getting my business. read more

I dont recomend this place, I took in my car 9/2010 to get a rebuilt on the transmission and not even a month had past when we were having problems with the car. it only wanted to go in reverse, we took it back but kept having problems with it. They never returned calls when they said they would get back with us. The transmission has not been repaired completly. I went and had the transmission inspected by another shop and we were told that there is something wrong with the trani. We now have proof that the trani was not rebilt correct! I have been trying to contact Century Transmission but they dont answer our calls. our next step is to contact the BBB and see if they can help us get in contact and get our transmission repaired. read more
