Made the trek to North Center to have my car serviced. This is my second time at this auto shop. Years ago, my husband was having issues with his transmission. They were good about letting him know his options. Fast forward to modern day, I was in need of rear brakes. I searched on Yelp for places with good reviews and used the project functionality. Transtastic came up on my radar again. Gary quoted me a fair price on Yelp for my rear brakes. My first day off of work, I called Javier to see if they could get me in. Upon arrival, the team quickly pulled my SUV into their garage. Javier did a quick inspection to determine if the dealership diagnostic was accurate. Javier recommended that I service both brakes and was thorough in educating me about why my front brakes also needed to be replaced. I left my vehicle with an estimation of 3 - 4 hours. It was completed in less than 3 hours. By the time, I was walking out the door, Javier was ordering my parts. I was satisfied with his communication and honesty in timeframe. Overall, I felt informed of what was going to take place with my vehicle. While I didn't plan on getting both brakes, I understood that the front ones were heavily rusted as so see with my own eye a few months back. This auto shop doesn't have much of a waiting area but plenty of shopping, eateries and even a library to bide your time nearby. There were a few cars ahead of me but I received my car back in just under two and a half hours. There's no waiting room but there's a nice coffee shop across the street. Beware of these guys. I don't know who they think their clients are, if they're telling some nonsense in all seriousness. I just wanted to know the price for replacing the knock sensor, provided the vin number and error codes, but instead of just giving the price, I was persuaded to come, cuz they would conduct a free diagnosis. When I arrived, the owner came out to me and started telling me that I needed to change the wheel bearing. Attention! he did not even see my car, he understood all this by the fact that my track of and vsc lamps were on. For those who don't know, it can be on for a million reasons, but not because of a wheel bearing malfunction. I know how the noise of broken bearing, and I don't have this sound. Moreover, it turns out that the bearings need to be replaced in pairs, like pads or brake discs, which of course is also bs. In general, a wasted hour of time on the road and maybe 20 minutes to listen that bs and scam. Oh yeah, I also got "very valuable" advice not to invest in this car because it's old. Thanks for the advice mister, I knew it without you. Update: I DIDN'T ASK FOR YOUR ADVICE, I asked about the price. I honestly don't write reviews often, but I had to for this shop. When the splash shield for my car came off, I was worried about finding an honest mechanic as a woman. Transtastic had the lowest Yelp quote and was very responsive. At the shop, the men were incredibly polite, helpful, and funny to boot. Despite not having an appointment, they got my car in quickly and charged a reasonable price to remove the shield. The owner, Gary, didn't try to upsell me; instead, he advised I order the part myself, and they'd attach it. This business is upstanding and respectful. I highly recommend this shop! read more

I wanted one close to home and found after reading the reviews here. Gary, Anthony, Lee and team are knowledgeable, kind, and very skilled. I ended up needing a significant amount of work done and appreciate that Anthony laid out for me the reasons why. He worked hard to get the parts in and get things repaired quickly. Anthony, Gary and Lee kept me updated and worked really hard to get my car in good shape. When I called for an update, they were always helpful. Keep in mind this is a small shop and you may be put on hold. Be patient. They will get right to you. The people at here care about doing a good job. I trust them and now consider them my auto repair shop. In the best possible way I imagine them to be what Bob from Bob's Garage in Schitt's Creek wishes he could be. Took my car to get a new transmission...I have used this shop before and they do good work but this time around seemed a bit of a cluster of miscommunication. The transmission at first was supposed to come with a 2yr warranty but their supplier gave them a bad Trans which resulted in a rebuild on their end. No problem there, was happy to pay the extra $ for the labor but the warranty went down to 1 yr with a lot of back and forth over a 3 week period with multiple people switching on and off the car and not keeping track of the completed work. Was also looking for them to do an overall inspection since they had the car apart...and all that came back with was the exhaust needed work which I green lit to get fixed but after taking the car to another shop for inspection, the partial fix was pretty shotty with holes at the welds and basically need a whole new system. Again was under the impression they were going to change the whole thing but I guess they tried to save me some money and patch it up a bit which didn't work out too well. New shop and new inspection and I find out my ball joints and control arms need replacing again something that they could have pointed out so I could at least get it done with the control arms down during Trans replacement. I did get new tires and new battery from them too and was happy about that and the Trans seems to be working well so far. Prices were good, the owner is a great guy and I noticed that my car got a ticket in it while they had it and they covered that after I brought up to them. I was trying to revive an old used car with lots of wear and tear so definitely was not expecting all noise and issues to be fixed but was looking for a one stop fix. Update: 3 stars to 1 at this point. They seemed to fail to mention that my ball joints and control arms were completely shot and needed complete replacement. not sure if they were trying to save me money at this point or just pure laziness. but would have appreciated a full picture prior to committing so much money on the trans. read more

a month ago i asked for a quote to get my spark plugs changed and tires rotated on yelp. a bunch of businesses got back to me, but they were one of the only places that didn't want me to make a phone call to set up everything, which is a big plus for me. they also quoted me less than half of what two other places wanted for the same services. dropped my car off in the morning, picked it up the same afternoon. awesome experience:) read more

I had to wait a lot longer than I was told to get my vehicle back. A delay in getting parts plus the aftermath of a large snow storm did not help. After the long delay the job was finished at the price quoted. Someone knocked the mirror off while they had the car parked outside. They replaced the mirror at no charge. Took the car back because of a noise. They fixed it at no charge. The noise was not related to the repair job they originally preformed. They take care of their customers. read more
