We just had another pool built by a reputable pool builder in the area and we had to update this based on our most recent experiences..... We had our first pool built by Century in 2016 and the experience was overall, good, but not great. We mainly dealt with Cory & Mike throughout the pool Construction process. The communication was the main issue, & they admitted they were overwhelmed at that time and they needed more help. There were a couple of other things that took place that we were not happy about like for example: an irrigation leak that flooded a small area in our backyard (they fixed it), and tiles installed that we liked, but never confirmed with anyone regarding installing them. Then, they didn't have anymore tiles to complete what we envisioned. Again, communication can resolve issues. Given this situation, they deserve 4 stars and not 3 like we originally gave them. Given the facts that the pool was beautifully built, and we never really had major issues with the equipment as long as we used that pool. We attempted to utilize them at our new home and they refused to build a pool in Lincoln. Oh well! We moved on to another builder, and boy oh boy did prices increase (as expected). Lastly, my younger brother used Century, and they did a nice job and built the pool fast during COVID. read more

very happy with the pool we built with century pools. great customer service. Our project manager was awesome and made all changes we requested theoughout the project without any additional change order fees. We met the owner and from the top down this compa y is aiming to please and make the pool you want. Price was right in line with other quotes we got. Not the cheapest but not the most expensive. We chose century from the "vibe" we got from the company and we were never disappointed. Is you are gonna build a pool allow century to show you what they can do. read more

Dealing with century pools was fine, we had a pool done during the winter last year, so I understood that they had to reschedule multiple times because of the weather and rain etc. the pool seems OK so far, but I'm so upset about the concrete, it looks terrible! and they kept saying the color was going to even out but it's been almost a year and a half, and it looks so blotchy. I have people come over and ask "is your concrete wet?" and we paid so much extra to have a nice looking patio. My husband tried to contact them and they didn't care...although it's not the "pool" they did it all the same, and they should stand by their contractors, And help make it right by theirs customers, because it was Century that we paid in full cash to read more

Hands down amazing experience from beginning to end. Great customer service and the quality of the build was outstanding. We are more than satisfied with the quality of the product. I'm old school, I own a business here in town. I shook hands with the guys and looked them eye to eye. We made a deal and they honored that deal by going above and beyond. Period read more

It took some time to get it completed, but well worth the wait.... We hit a few snags throughout the process but Cory stepped up and handled them, which we know wasn't easy at times. Thank you! Century is at best average when it comes to the pool. Fine, whatever. But their landscaping company tractor, Grant? Worst landscaper ever. We had repeated problems with them screwing up and not doing what was agreed. They cut countless corners, some of which we luckily noticed at the time and forced them to correct, but some of which we are still finding today. All the while Grant was a complete jerk about everything. We finally just cancelled our contract and agreed not to pay the final payment because they just couldn't do anything right. Took care of things ourselves. If you go with Century (which I wouldn't) please please please do not let them do your landscaping. What a disaster of a company. read more

Wife and I found out about Century Pools through my older bother. I waited almost 2 years to write this review to see how things were going to hold up. They build his pool almost 10 years ago and it's still going strong with no issues. Anyway, we moved into a new community back in 2020 right around Covid and immediately got around 7 quotes from different pool builders. A few declined or never responded after seeing our project but Century Pools was on time and on schedule as expected. They even beat the quotes of some of the bigger companies. They built our pool, and did the pool decking salt finish. I dealt mainly with Mike and the team was also easy to work with. The entire project took about 4-5 months. Highly recommend them! read more

So let me tell you how it is. Century Pools is the best company around. I've read the bad reviews on this page and all I see are people being babies about how the best company around didn't build there pool or give them a bid. The bad reviews have nothing to do with price, bad work and timeliness. It's all about how Century Pools didn't get back to them after a bid. Cry me a river!! This company is the best! They have been around forever and know the industry well. They are honest and trustworthy. They built my parents pool 30 years ago and it still looks great! I've had many friends and family with pools by them and they all love the outcome. Go with Century!!! read more

Century Pools installed my swimming pool, five years later I had rust coming through the plaster. Century Pools sent Adams Pool Specialties out to fix the rusting rebar which was bleeding through. They drained the pool, dug out the plaster and concrete, took out what they thought was the extent of rusting rebar. They then did a horribly ugly patch job, I have had to live with this horribly ugly patch job for an additional five years. Now I have severe rusting coming through the plaster again. I will now have to contract a swimming pool pIastering company to strip all of the plaster, then jackhammer out the concrete to get to the rusting rebar, remove the rebar, pour new concrete (gunite) and replaster. I have taken great care of my swimming pool, if it were not for the rust coming through, I would probably be fine with the current plaster for at least another 10 years. I have never been so dissatisfied with a contractor ever!!! l would never refer this pool company to anyone!!!! Century Pools is not a good choice for a Swimming Pool Contractor!!! read more

I had about 5 pool contractors come to my home and give me quotes for a swimming pool with solar heating. I verified their contractor's licensees, read their yelp reviews and looked on the BBB website for complaints. I was close to signing with a real small pool contractor, when the price went up dramatically on the contract signing day. So I went out to look for 5 more pool contractors. This is when I met one of the owners of Century pools, Michael. He is a straight talking guy, who listens and quotes you on what you ask for. Century had a great price and design. Additionally, I wanted some extra patio added, and Century does that themselves, at a great price. I asked for references and called former customers, they gave glowing reviews and they were inviting me over to their house to see their pool. Century is family owned, which meant after I hired them, Michael was also taking turns on the excavator digging the hole for the pool in my backyard. His brother Patrick is the main pool, electric and concrete guy. They moved fast and they kept a very clean worksite. The most guys that they ever had out at my house were 4, Michael and his brother and 2 young guys who were also brothers. They broke ground on 3/22 and I was swimming on 5/3. I initially was planning on just getting a basic pool, but I went with a couple of extras, the solar heating, and I went a little bigger and deeper. The pool is spectacular. The only minus I can give Century is that they are so small, that once they do 80%-90% of the job, they are not as around as much because they are working on other jobs. But I was able to keep in contact by email. All of the pool contractors I talked to were nice and helpful, but Century Pools was the company I felt I could trust. It has been my experience that sometimes you have to get 10 or so quotes for a job before you find the contractor that feels right. read more

Five stars isn't enough! 10 STARS is more like it. Had my first pool done back in 2001 by Century Pools and was so impressed. Loved that home and pool, but had to sell it. Fast forward 20 years and here we are again. Begged them to go outside their normal project locations, and they were gracious enough to accept my pleas. Had other quotes, but the BEST pool building company in Sac is Century. They started on a Thursday a little over a week ago and they are all over it. Family owned and run. Yes they will be doing part of the work. If you are lucky enough to have Century do your pool, you will rave about them to everyone just like I've done for 20 years! read more

I was very disappointed with my experience with Century pools considering we heard so many great things from neighborhood reviews. We are taking into consideration how busy the industry is with Covid. We had a great initial consultation and we were told it could take up to 6 weeks for the designs/estimate. At week 7 we had to reach back out to request an update and Century told us due to unforeseen circumstances with the designer it could take another 6 weeks and that they understand if we wanted to take our business elsewhere. I tried to be understanding and said to keep us posted. And we never heard from them again. Very unprofessional read more

Would not recommend this company. They came out and took measurements and discussed our simple rectangle small pool design. We had no schedule and were completely flexible with dates. After 3 weeks, we finally received a letter stating they were not going to provide an estimate and were not going to build our pool! What kind of company turns down work?!? read more

I was referred to them my a family member that recently got a pool installed by them. I had them come out for a quote. They took measurements and I told them the design I want. I was quoted 3 weeks for design ((long time but worth the wait I was hoping)). 3 weeks passed and no design or call. I called them and was told 3 more weeks. I asked if there was anything they could do to speed it up. Callback 2 days later and they said that they can't do my design. What a bust! I was referred, only to be treated like a tire kicker. Any company that treats a referral like this should be a huge red flag. read more

Century Pools passed on my job. I live in Roseville where my home has a double-gate access and great soil for digging (No rock, granite, or water-table issues). Cory wouldn't give particulars as to why my job was not ideal for them, only that it took them a few weeks to come to this conclusion. This was a needless delay in my opinion, as he seemed awfully excited about the idea of having a "Blank Canvas" to work with at our first appointment (See First Meeting Below). Here is an account of the dates/times, and what it took to finally get an email declination from them..... 11/16/2015 11:16 AM - Rather than call me to discuss the reasons they passed on my job, Cory emailed me that they were too busy and my job would not fit into their schedule. This would have been good information to have a few weeks earlier, so I could have moved on to my other Contractors without delay. I didn't want to misquote him, so here is his exact email to me. This is merely a Cut/Paste from the email he sent..... "Hi Rob, I am sorry I am getting back to you so late. I was out of the office on Friday. I met with my boss this weekend to go over our schedule through the end of the year. I wish I would have had this information when we met a few weeks ago. After going through all of our existing design commitments we have come to realize that we will not be able to get to them all and will unfortunately have to pass on a few projects. Some jobs are not as ideal for our company as others and being a small company we have to look at all of the details involved in each project we take on. We appreciate the opportunity but we will not be able to bid on your project at this time. Thank you, Cory MacFarlane Century Pools" 11/13/2015 3:02 PM - No return call, so left another message at the office and asked Megan or Cory to call. Also left message on Cory's cell and texted Cory to see if he could call me with an update and ETA. 11/12/2015 12:48 PM - Left voicemail for Cory to see if he has any status on our pool/landscaping design. 11/2/2015 5:33 PM - Cory came out to take measurements of the backyard. He was very excited about the "open canvas" of our backyard and looked forward to creating a pool/backyard design for us using all of his 3D technology. He said he would have something to present to us in about about 2 weeks. read more

they flaked on us twice when trying to get an estimate on a pool. The second time someone was supposed to show and doesn't, I called and they sent someone out that didn't take any notes. After reading some of the most current reviews; I feel something must be going on with this company. Century came highly recommended from multiple people on the Nextdoor App, so I set up an appointment. At the appointment Michael and I went over all the wants, seriously a basic build. Michaell said I would get a replu/design within a week. One week to the day I got a letter simply stating they could provide a bid. They can only handle a fix amount of work, and that some projects have more challenges than others. They have to select what is best suited for their business model. I can appriciate the honestly but it is true counter to their business model on their website, again my project was anything but challenging. Something is off with Century right now, stay away!! read more

I wish I was able to leave a favorable review.... ill make this short and sweet. We set up an appointment to have Century to come take a look at our backyard so that were able to get a bid, they came out and said "yeah we can definitely make this work". We were told we would receive a bid withing 3 weeks so we anxiously awaited their email with the numbers we need to make sure things are within our budget. We ended up receiving a letter in the mail saying that they will not provide a bid and won't build our pool because it doesn't match what they're looking for. I would recommend going with a beer company more suited to their actual purpose. read more

After convincing us of their lifetime warranty, Century pools did a great job building a pool. Before it was filled, the pebble tech had gaps in coverage that needed fixing. Century pools said we had to contact the place who did the pebble tech (then gave us the phone# since they subcontracted it out). Things went downhill from there. After struggling for 2 years to get them to fix the falling off tile, holes in the concrete, failing equipment, and broken pipes they finally declared today that they refuse to do anything since its all out of warranty. Since they finished the pool they haven't stepped foot on our property to fix anything they warranted. Do yourself a favor and NEVER hire these crooks. read more

Was able to get the office manager on the phone easily and have a conversation with her regarding having someone come out and bid on a pool for our backyard. Someone did come out and we had a lengthy discussion about what we envisioned and wanted. He took measurements and said he would be in touch. When he left we were excited about the prospect of our new pool. After a week we hadn't heard anything back, so I reach out and was told that the designer was on vacation and would get back to me. About a week later, we received a generic letter in the mail stating that they would not be bidding on our pool, and provided a long list of reasons why this "could be" the case. I was and still am annoyed. Why? This was a complete waste of my time, and the designer didn't have the decency to reach out directly to tell me why they would be refusing the job. I've never experience doing business like this. I'm posting this review to let anyone who is thinking of doing business with this company that THEY ARE INTERVIEWING YOU during the first meeting to see if your vision is an easy/accessible job for them. If it is not, they will send a note with no further discussion. For me, I'd rather work with a company that puts the customer's needs/interests as a top priority, not their own. That is to say that if someone would've called me directly to have a follow-up conversation to tell me why they would not be able to do the work, I would have been able to respect that decision, but that was not how it was done. read more

Century built our pool in the summer of 2010. Somewhere around 1990 they built my parents pool and did a good job, which is part of the reason we went with them. The same guys who built my parents pool did the majority of work on ours (Brian and Michael). We are very happy with the work they did. I can kind of understand what Mark is saying about the lack of communication and not knowing when they are coming by as they are kind of hard to get a hold of, mainly because the owners are doing much of the work and are not in an office taking calls. But they finished the work in 3 weeks, which is quicker then they told us and everything turned out really nice. I think the two reviews are way off. We moved to a new part of Anatolia (Kavala Ranch) and posted a very positive review on a community forum. Since then Century has done a bunch of other pools in our area all through word of mouth. They are different from bigger companies like Aqua or Premier in that the owners do the work themselves (except the pebble tech finish), which is what we liked about them. read more

Our new pool is beautiful and is exactly what we wanted. Century was very easy to work with every step of the way. They created a design that incorporated everything we wanted, and presented some elements that we hadn't even considered but we ended up loving. The family run aspect really shows. The brothers & other family members were involved every step of the way and took time to chat with my kids who were slightly obsessed with the building process. We got a wonderful product, executed smoothly, and feel we got a great price. read more

I had a very similar experience as one of the others reviewing this firm. We got the feeling that we were being interviewed to see if we were a "good fit" for a new pool. Not sure where the 100% response rate came from but reading the other reviews and now having my own firsthand experience with this company, definitely not 100% response rate. In fact these guys were a big waste of my time to be very honest. Michael (the owner) came out to discuss my pool project and take measurements, mind you this was after me trying for a week straight to even get a hold of someone on their business phone. Literally I called every day for a whole week and finally reached them, apparently they are a family owned and operated company so no one was in the office or returning calls all week. We talked and looked at the pool site and talked about options and he seemed very knowledgeable and overall made me feel comfortable. He gave me his card and told me he would draw up formal plans and a proposal for me by the next week. Towards the end of the next week I decided to see where he was at with his pricing since I had received several other bids and wanted to see if Century would be comparable and worth waiting for as I had not received anything yet. He told me he would check in with his designer and let me know later that afternoon. That afternoon came and went and not a single peep from good ol Mike. I reached out to him the following day and started feeling weird about his lack of professionalism and follow up. I mean come on, I was preparing to pay a ton of money to your company and you can't even return a call as you said you would? I gave Mike, remember this is the owner we are talking about, one more chance but before I did I read reviews here on Yelp and they all had the same experience I was having but these people waited two weeks to be shrugged off. So I came right at him and asked if he was even interested in building my pool. He responded telling me that they were, but he had signed up so many others since seeing me the week before that he would no longer be able to start my pool in the timeline I was looking for... what a big waste of my time. How does a company whose owner operates like this even stay in business. read more

Century Pools initially was one of five pool contractors we interviewed in 1985 to build our first pool in California. After meeting with them , we were impressed that it was a family business and the father plus all the sons worked together to build their pools. Every body had a specific skill. They helped us complete the design and we ended up with a great and beautiful pool and Spa. No body could match or compete with the price or quality and time to build. A lot of pool builders have come and gone and they are still in business. They actually complete the work on the pools that they contract to do! They know what they are doing. You are not dealing with some salesman and several other middle men/persons. They have since built a total of 4 pools for us at the different locations we have lived in Roseville, and the Sacramento area. We Will Not Use Anyone Else ! Mike is the contact and main coordinator for the project and all the brothers and family members are great. They are straight talking, honest and do exactly what they say that they will do. If you want to make some upgrades (timely ) along the way they will do that with appropriate charges. We love the work this family does, trust them, and highly recommend them. We may not talk to them for several years but if a problem comes up with the pool, they do follow up to assist with any corrections. They always remember who you are and the pool that they built for you. The original pool was built in 1985 and the current owners love it and have no problems with it. Great people! Great Work! read more

After much difficulty and last-minute rescheduling on their part, we met with the owner to discuss putting a pool in our yard. He was very nice and talked with us a long time about what we wanted and didn't want. He said he would have someone come out to take measurements and we would hear back with a bid. We didn't hear for a couple of weeks, then went on vacation and forgot about it for about a month. When I came across the business card I gave them a call to see what had happened. The person who answered the phone said she would look into it and call us back. To her credit, she did, but we were not home so she left a message stating that they had decided not to bid on our project. That was it. No apology. I called back to get more details and was basically told that they were too busy to bid on our project (nice for them!) and was again offered no apology for wasting my time bothering to meet at all, or for declining to bid and not telling us, or for not apologizing for any of that! read more

This was the first pool we've had installed, it took us years to actually pull the trigger due to all the nightmare stories you hear about. My husband called Century and Mike was out the next day. Within a week we had plans, we weren't too crazy about the shape of the pool, so Mike drew us up new plans within the week. The cost was much less than we thought so we added on a spa with several custom features. Every sub-crew that's come out has done an amazing job and they've kept the my yard and the streets in front of my house clean. My husband is building a kitchen in the backyard and some of the guys have given advice from their trade to help. They also installed pipes (without being asked) to make it easier for us to run sprinklers to the other side of our yard as well as electrical right by my husbands shop and walked him through how to tap into it so he'll have electricity in there. They have been amazing! I can't say enough about how great this company is and how easy they are to work with. Also, they are finishing about a week ahead of time and we've passed every inspection with flying colors. read more

I should first say that the work Century does is very good. They completed the job very quickly and the pool itself was done very well. So what's the problem? I had to initiate almost every call to them to find out what was going on. I never knew when they were coming because they rarely communicated with me. The worst part was that when they finished, they were GONE. Still little things like an open trench for the water lines remained, but no follow up. If I hadn't called to ask them to fill it in, I am certain they never would have come back. Would it kill you to have someone call and find out if we are happy with everything or not, or if we had any questions? They are really nice guys, but leaving and not saying a word, or finishing completely, and generally not communicating with me isn't the way to get a recommendation. I know you have other pool construction going on at the same time, but I think I am entitled to be kept in the loop. However, even with all that being said, I do like my pool, I just had a bad experience with their communication. read more
