I went here for a special advance screening and found that the staff was friendly and the general location was clean and in good order, including the restroom. The seats looked at though they were new, since they were roomy and comfortable. Its also nice to have free parking in the parking structure only a few short steps away from the entrance. They also offer a movie watchers club that emails you with free concessions,discounted movie tickets and more. read more

I went to the theater before checking the Yelp ratings, and I was surprised at the number of negative ratings for this theater when I checked it out on Yelp. Lots of people are complaining about the popcorn, the starbucks, and other stuff. Jesus, who the hell buys food and drinks at movie theaters anymore? I never eat at the movies, it's way too damn expensive. I judge a theater based on the quality of the theater itself (seat comfort, number of chairs, etc) and, more importantly, picture and sound quality. And the picture and sound quality at this theater is absolutely stunning. No, seriously, stunning. The quality of the image at Century Boulder is so much better than the other theaters I visit (AMC Promenade and AMC Westminster) that I'm not sure I can watch a movie at my old theaters any more. The picture is brighter and crisper than any theater I've visited in years. It's breathtaking if you're into picture quality. The sound is perfect. Adequate speakers, turned to an appropriate volume so that there is no clipping. As far as the movie watching experience goes, Century Boulder cannot be topped by any other theater in the area. The seating blows though. Way too little room between your seat and the seat in front of you. The chairs aren't comfortable, and they rock in a stupid way. It's a shame. In my humble opinion, these days movie theaters are all pretty much the same, right? But there are a couple things worth mentioning about Century Boulder. Based on previous reviews you would think this place is the pits, but I really like this theater. First of all, the location is great. If you live in Boulder this is going to be the closest, and it's located right next to the 29th St. Mall. It can be slightly confusing because it's covered by buildings and the parking lot, but it's conveniently centered in downtown Boulder nonetheless. The early bird matinee is awesome. The first showing of the day, at least during the week, is always pretty discounted. If you have a day off or a flexible schedule you can see an early movie and save some money. The theater always has a good selection of current movies and times, and I find that it's always clean. Some theaters don't do such a great job after another movie lets out. My favorite thing that I've noticed about this theater so far is that they don't tend to be as busy as other theaters. I've seen some really popular movies when they've first come out at prime times and the rooms have been almost empty or only half full. If you don't like going to the movies when its super packed, then maybe you'll have better luck with this location. read more

It's convenient, so there's that. Other than that, there's not much to recommend this theater. The seats are uncomfortable and tightly packed. They were, in sure, state of the art when they opened this theater, but they're certainly not today. Then, there's the lobby. It promises a superior food service environment, what with its ice cream section and 2 queues, then it utterly fails to deliver. That's probably more due to... ...the employees. They're pretty consistently horrible. I don't know whether it's a matter of training or if they're just hiring from the shallow end of the talent pool, but it's pretty bad. On our visit today, we were faced with a concessions employee that tried to say our 2014 popcorn and soda cups weren't valid anymore (despite being printed with a "valid through 12/31/14" date), then there was the ticket person who insisted we hold paper tickets even though we'd bought more than $100 worth of tickets online through Fandango and had the tickets loaded on our smartphones. So, in short, don't come here unless what you want to see isn't anywhere else or you're in Boulder without a car. read more

2.5 stars. They seem to have retrofitted (yes, I work with engineers, leave me alone) all the seats so that they don't bounce or sag uncontrollably when someone sits down. My knees thank you for this. However, the seats, particularly the lower ones, are now sitting so bolt upright that its a pain in the neck to watch a movie. And its still uber-expensive. read more

I want to preface this review by saying that I am not upset with the policies Century has implemented regarding backpacks, but rather how they were enforced at the Boulder location. My partner and we're visiting from out of town and decided to see a movie. We buy our tickets and enter the lobby area while waiting for our movie. We were then approached and informed that we would not be allowed into the theater because of the backpack. Instead of offering a solution, the manager told us we would need to leave and there would be no alternative for us to see the movie. The issue we have is that the customer service here was not accommodating and very impersonal. In addition, management should consider moving the signage on their bag policy to be visible prior to purchasing tickets and training their employees to be as informative as possible. We did get a refund for the tickets but it was a large waste of time and money that left a bad taste in our mouth. Century Theaters: please equip your staff and management with better training to avoid this kind of interaction in the future. read more

I'm not sure why people were so low with the ratings for this place, but it worked in my favor. It's the only place in BoulderCounty that wasn't packed for Star Wars! Major bonus! They also let me reserve my seat. Aisle seats are mandatory when you have the bladder of a two-year old. It was seamless to get to my seat: easy garage parking for free, ticket on my phone so I skipped the line, friendly staff at the concessions stand, and right to my seat. If you want to see a movie you could do a lot worse than the Century Boulder Theater. My fiancé and I ended up there by chance one day and saw "The Green Book". Our theatre was clean and the seats were comfy, and our tickets were only $5 a piece because of some special they had going on. I can definitely think of a worse way to spend $5, and I would go back if I'm up in Boulder again. read more

While the seats in this theater aren't as nice as some of it's competitors (I'm looking at you reclining chairs at AMC Flatiron Crossing...) I'm still a fan of this place. You can order tickets, and pick your seats, online. I'm a HUGE fan of this mode of ticket-purchase because I can show up right before the movie starts and rest assured that I will have good seats. I also like that I have mobile tickets so all I need to bring with me is my phone. I seriously LOVE that Century Boulder offers $5.50 tickets on Tuesdays for their 'discount day'. Movie ticket prices are RIDICULOUS and there are many movies I'm not willing to pay $15 for to see in theaters. I love coming here to have the true movie theater experience even with shows I wasn't willing to shell out the cash for otherwise. It's not the best theater around, but they have made some improvements recently. The online ordering and the discount day keep me coming back for more. :) read more

I love that this theater is right smack in the middle of Boulder with easy access from almost anywhere. There is great parking options as it is located within the 29th street walking mall and they always have a great selection of screenings. The concession stands are awesome, with Boulder Ice Cream, fresh chocolate chip cookies, starbucks and of course, your traditional movie snacks like candy and popcorn. With that said, the theaters themselves are dank. The seats aren't comfortable at all, with narrow walkways that are sure to make your leg go numb during your movie. The seats don't remotely recline and the armrests tend to be broken or at least "out of place" so you fight them going up and down the whole time. For a neighborhood spot, this theater is fine but if you are looking for an actual experience - skip Century Boulder. read more

This is the closest theater to me, so I end up seeing quite a few movies here, so I'm pretty sure I've seen a movie on every screen they have. I can say without a doubt that every single theater they have is RIDICULOUSLY SMALL on the leg space issue. I'm only 5'2", and will only see a movie from the front row of the main stadium section (with the railing in front of me-- usually I can stretch my legs out straight to touch the rail with my toes), and literally when I put my feet up my knees are bent up into my lap at this theater. There is no way to pass by people in this theater without actually touching strangers. And this is Boulder. Keep in mind that there are a lot of strangers with very personal, very "earthy" scents. The popcorn, as wildly overpriced as any other theater, does not earn my ire for it's poor value. It's the "butter topping". It is not the same as other butter toppings. I don't know if it's some sort of health-food, Boulder alternative to butter topping, but I do know it sucks ass. It is like putting vegetable oil all over your kernels. THe starbucks isn't bad though. The candy bag fill-up station? Don't get sucked into it. This theater charges $11.80/lb. for candy. read more

It's really a disgusting venue that feels dirty to sit at. The food is stale and overpriced, the service is slow, and the management is inept. They recently rolled out a no-bag policy, so if you have a purse, briefcase, or a backpack, there's nothing you can do to keep your stuff safe. The security in the parking garage is incredibly lax, so be mindful of your stuff. Your best bet is to go to another theatre. I'd recommend the Boedecker, which is down the street and they're INDEPENDENT. Those guys also show fantastic films on a screen that is enviable by other theatres. read more

2 words - lumbar support I'm not the only one, as friends have also noticed. It doesn't help whether I slouch or sit upright - I can't find any lower back support, even though their otherwise nice seats are still pretty much new. So looking silly, now I bring my own cushion to the movies, jeez thats dorky. So why 4 stars? well nice new theaters, large screens, good sound, good sightlines, not many crowds, clean overall, convenient to get to & park in the garage. Also a big plus for showing on 2-3 screens foreign/independent/artsy features. Yeah, it's pricey, but I can't expect them not to gouge us for our first new multiplex in Boulder; besides i'm pretty sure it's comparable to Flatirons or Denver 'burbs. read more

This theater is pretty standard for a typical theater these days... Clean, giant, and not much character. Gets the job done. Highlights: Kettle corn is fantastic and much more worth the crazy snack bar prices than some of the other treats. We have a backpack with us because we are a typical tourist. We walked into the theater and were going to get tickets for Incredible. After picking out time, we were told we are not allowed to enter the theater because of the backpack. We offered to have them look at the contents, and were told they can neither search nor keep our backpack, ie, with a backpack, you can't watch a movie. read more

Candidate for dirtiest theatre in Colorado..... We were in Boulder and decided to catch an early 11AM Showing on a Saturday. The person at the ticket counter commented that this would be the first showing of the day... We entered the theatre and were appalled at the condition. Two words. Leg Space. If the person sitting in front of you leans back as far as they can (the seats are able to recline a little) then you get knocked in the knees. I only mention this because I'm 5'2" and am mostly torso anyway. I'm not sure if this is true in all the theatres, but in 13 there is definitely NO leg space whatsoever. read more

What a dump. This was my first (and last) time at this theater and the other reviews are right. I went to a 4:20 show (the second show of the day) and the floors were strewn with popcorn. The concession countertops were disgusting. No way did that happen in a couple hours' time so who knows when this place was last cleaned? Just had a horrible experience at this theater. Do not go here if you don't enjoy being racially profiled. My friend and I, who are white women, had no problem bringing in bags that were far over the size limits posted at the door. We took in a movie with no problems. We observed numerous other white people with large bags, including backpacks, getting in no problem. But as we were leaving, we observed a black woman getting kicked out of the theatre because her backpack was supposedly too big. It was literally less than half the size of my purse. We asked to speak to the manager, and he proceeded to smirk condescendingly while telling us he "promised it had nothing to do with race." This escalated and a team of people were involved at the front desk because we were clearly not accepting their excuses and wanted an explanation. We were just trying to get them to acknowledge that they needed to train their staff consistently, because it seemed implicit bias was affecting who they let in vs not. And we wanted them to acknowledge their mistake and remedy it. We tried to get them to check the contents of this woman's bag and let her in to see her movie if there was nothing dangerous in it, but they said that was against policy and they couldn't let anyone in with a bag over the size limit. BTW, she mentioned that she was diabetic and had supplies in there hat she needed in case of an emergency. We pointed out that we had seen many bags over the size limit get in, but they still refused. As this confrontation was happening, another manager asked us to "stop saying white people." Also another staff member tried to be kind and repeatedly apologized for the mistake...to us...the two white women who were not discriminated against. He couldn't even look at the woman who had been profiled. We were also told multiple times that there have been many negative yelp reviews from white people who couldn't get in because of their backpacks. Well I checked these reviews and I only see a few negative reviews about backpacks, and very few have pictures of the reviewers. I understand the staff at this place might not be consciously profiling people of color, but it's clearly happening subconsciously. Their responses to our complaints showed complete ignorance. And their unwillingness to acknowledge the possibility of implicit bias in their screening process is inexcusable. I will never forget the condescending smirk on that manager's face. His name was Jacob. And when I asked him why he was smiling and laughing, he said it was because we were "all saying the same thing." He had no concept at all of the issue. Bottom line, what's done is done, but this place needs to train its employees to enforce any bag rules consistently. This is a really bad look for this place and this woman deserves an apology. read more

A decent theater; I would normally rate it 3 stars but I give it an extra because it carries some independents / foreign films that I like to watch. The sound and projection quality was fairly good. The only problem was that I was in the back corner (sat there on purpose actually) and I could hear some flanging from the front and left speakers. A group of us came to Century Theater for a late showing of 2D "It" a few weeks ago. Getting in by scanning our pre-purchased tickets on the phone was easy. Finding our assigned seats was also easy. The theater was clean, which is great and sooo important (there's nothing else that can ruin a movie quite like your shoes sticking to the floor throughout). Chair comfort was meh, but then I do tend to need a bit more lumbar support than most. The audio sounded really good; the video looked crisp with good color. Overall, a perfectly good theater and a quality viewing experience. I would come back. read more

This place has a few things really going for, but quite a lot going against it. It's definitely one of the more expensive ticket prices, at $10.50 for an adult on a weekend night. To be fair, it is like that in a lot of places, but there are other places you can go for a little bit cheaper. Their popcorn was bland as bland could be, and unfortunately, you can only top it with butter after you get it, so no layered butter to help with some taste. Small thing, but I love my popcorn so I can't help but mention it. We went to see a movie that was in it's opening night and were amazed to find they were showing it in one of their smaller theaters-it held maybe a 110 people. But again, because it was opening night, it sold out and there was a good 10-15 people who didn't have seats together, or at all. Bad move putting the movie in that theater. The seating is rather uncomfortable-they're very close together and the seats in our theater didn't recline at all. Maybe a good thing since they're so close together, but it makes for an uncomfortable time. But there is some good-picture and sound. Both are top notch. The picture is crystal clear (it is digital) and the sound is rocking. Good thing, because that's a major difference between watching a movie at home and in the theater. Overall, the Century Boulder theater is not one of my top choices for theaters. It's the best you'll find in Boulder itself though, without having to drive to Westminster. Maybe try a matinee so you're not paying a lot for an overall mediocre experience. read more

Theater Experience, if not a little better. Fairly updated facilities so the movies are great both in audio and visual aspects. Seating is alright/comfy for a bit, and its clean for a movie theater. Lower stars due to pricing. Also, the candy area had some outdated candy. A few of the items I picked were petrified and stale, and may have been around since Avatar was released. Outside of that, cant complain, good place to see a movie if you need to. Otherwise, Netflix homies. read more

Best front row ever? Er, quite possibly. We showed up late for the Friday night opening weekend show of "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" and were only able to find seats in the very front. And... whey hey!... for some reason the viewing experience wasn't noticeably horrible. Perhaps these chairs aren't as close to the screen or maybe they simply recline further, but yes, definitely the best front row at the movies I've ever experienced. Overall, the Century Boulder Theater gets stars for having a good selection of independent films (although not quite as extensive as the Landmark Crossroads that closed), decent matinee prices, very good projection/sound quality, and, most importantly, COFFEE. I can't comment on the movie food they have here, but outside eat/drink options for pre/post movie are pretty good. As far as the comfort of the chairs & leg room go, I have not had a problem with it and haven't had complaints from the people behind me even though I tend to shift around a lot during a movie. read more

We went here for a 12.30 matinee of The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus this past weekend. We really liked the ticket machine on the outside wall of the theater... Very quick and easy, and no line or crabby teenagers to hassle with. We got super- expensive Starbucks plain old coffee (but I agree with another poster... Kind of expected). There was no real dairy creamer out, but when we requested it, it was promptly brought out. I agree with everyone else... The chairs are annoying with no leg room. Had there been more people in our theater, I think it would have felt a little claustrophobic. Overall, some nice amenities, I like the location, but not sure I would ever attended a really anticipated movie on opening day here. read more

I am from a major city and so I am biased in what I can expect from a movie theater. I don't eat much at theaters and wouldn't really judge a place because for the most part, buying food here is more so out of necessity. If you are going to judge the food at this place then you're missing the point of the place: to watch a movie. Now for the actual review. I saw a movie and got to buy my ticket outside at a self help kiosk. I am a fan of that since I go to the movies 1-2 per week. This allows me to pick up my tickets and if feeling adventurous buy myself an Ice-e. The seats aren't recliners but they are comfortable seats and there isn't much more to say about the place. It's as clean as you would suspect from any theater. The staff was kind and everything was straight forward. I am coming back simply because they had a movie that wasn't released anywhere else at the time. read more

Let me start off by saying I am a HUGE movie buff!! I see at the very least one movie a month, sometimes going 4 or 5 times a month. Century Boulder Theater is a decently sized theater that's in a good location (tons of restaurants and shops around). It's a little outdated and in my opinion can't quite compete with the AMC I usually visit out in Broomfield. However! It's very close to where I live and if I'm feeling lazy or maybe not as psyched to see a movie, I'll head here. I went on a Saturday around 3pm and I believe my ticket was $9...not bad! Definitely better prices than AMC but I reaaaaally like the reclining leather seats at AMC, so because of that I'll most likely continue going to go there and occasionally hit the Century Boulder Theater. read more
