In…read morethis non-Denver sized city, this museum has had exhibits showing the works of Picasso, Ansel Adams and Red Grooms! They have had an exhibit on Washi: The Japanese Culture of Paper Making. They also have an annual Day of the Dead exhibit created by community members and local artists. There is a permanent exhibit called 'Front Range Rising' which discusses the history of Longmont. You can see many of these past exhibits in a virtual tour on their website! In addition to the exhibits, there are movies, classes, performances and walking tours. The classes and movies relate in some way to the art exhibits. For example, an exhibition called 'Build: Design & Create with LEGO' was connected with the short films created by the legendary designers Charles and Ray Eames. During the Picasso exhibit you were able to take a class to learn how to create a Picasso style portrait. A recent update as of July 2025 is that the galleries will be closed until Fall 2026 while the Longmont Museum has a major expansion of its building. There will be even more galleries and a larger children's area! While the galleries will be closed they are still planning to have events in the auditorium and courtyard. They will also continue their educational programs.

Programs include twelve art exhibits annually plus two resident artist studios, a ceramics studio, and a classroom. Admission to the galleries is always free and The Arts Studio provides extensive outreach to the community plus a regular program of classes for children and adults. Exhibitions mix solo and group shows including local, regional, and national artists. I've been visiting the Center for many years. I've found the exhibits to be of mixed quality, but that's inevitable given the mission of the organization. Today's visit involved some sort of used clothing sale which was a little confusing and made it difficult to see the current art exhibit. The Art Center is a great community resource and a terrific asset to Longmont.

From Space Odyssey to Prehistoric Journey, Gems & Minerals, Exploring Colorado History, the Mummies exhibit (so fascinating!), and of course the Discovery Zone where they could roam and just be kids -- we truly made an afternoon of it. And I am still salivating over one of the cars that I saw there (the most recent Ford high-end car in the attached picture). What made this place really special is the tour guide we had. The people who do the tours are not only really passionate about what they do, but have amazing insider information. The guy who gave us our tour was the Director of Operations for the museum and has been working with Shelby for many decades. He used to be the guy in the truck that transported these amazing machines to/from races and had so many stories to tell.

Wow, my yesterday's visit to this historic park was so mesmerizing. It's because of their annual…read more(?) "Bright Nights" (originally a lantern festival.) It is said that they unveil a brand new theme each year and this year's theme appears to be focused on some Eastern cultures such as cherry blossom and bamboo forest with pandas. Not that I have been to many lights shows and yet I must say that I have never seen anything quite like this as far as my recollection is accurate. In its 12-acre land, the installations of lantern lights are everywhere. After 8:30pm or so when it's dark, the illuminations from the lanterns are glowing brighter than Las Vegas' illuminations (LOL - why am I comparing this to Las Vegas!!) According to the park's website, some of the sculptures are 23-foot tall (such as the cherry blossom gate.) It's currently open from Wednesday through Sunday until October 5th. And last night's was one of the adult-only nights where you must be 21+ to enter (I believe the next and last such night is Sept 17th. And this writing is as of late August of 2025.) I am already curious as to what the next year's theme is going to be. There is a centralized bar, some food vendors, a stage where a performer performs, and a DJ booth. Great for family time, girls' night or date night. Helpful staff were working tirelessly to assist all visitors. Although about 1,300 tickets were sold last night, it was never super jammed packed. There is still time to visit this enchanting light show. Not only for the locals but definitely one of the must-visit attractions for out-of-staters as well.

Recently went to the Bright Lights event at this park and had a wonderful experience walking around…read morethe luminous colorful tall lanterns. Every inch of the 12 acres had lights and even in the trees and bushes. So many details that it seemed realistic. Many of the lanterns were interactive such as stationary bikes or cranks to power the lights to glow even brighter. The staff were friendly and happy to help. This event is for young and old and I highly recommend going!

There are some interactive displays, that some children will enjoy. The docent at the front desk was helpful. What challenged me was parking. There is none nearby. I guess this is true for most Universities. The GPS took me to the museum and with 2 toddlers in tow, I parked in one of the 6 non marked, empty spaces. Just to be sure I asked if I needed a visitor permit for my car, when I was told those spots were not for visitors. I needed to look for parking elsewhere. I found there was parking available approximately 1/4 mile away and across Broadway. That is an extremely busy street. There are no pedestrian crosswalks near the museum. So fairly good museum -- difficult logistics made worse on cool rainy days.

The fantastic visual overload, including the attractive 80s graphic design elements such as neon colors, vintage typography & signage, & furnishings, is perfectly accompanied by constant back-to-back 80s songs! They are played with their music videos on all the TV screens in every corner of the dining area including a huge flat screen on 1 of the walls! Such fun, memorable, iconographic 80s music videos & they are occasionally punctuated with classic 80s TV commercials, including a political ad by President Reagan, & TV show opening credits sequences with the famous theme songs, such as Family Matters, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, She-Ra, Knight Rider, & other great ones! They have a good size Kid Zone. Then they have the history of Fort Collins. Then, I believe, they have a rotating exhibit. At the time was all about Skin. On humans and animals. It was fascinating. Then the best part was the music area. So much interaction! It was great! Definitely recommend. Will definitely be here again.

There is so much to do and explore here! The music section is definitely a favorite as you get to test out so many instruments! Everything was well maintained (minus one or two exhibits that weren't functioning at the time). The toddler area is great for the little ones to be separate. Personally, I was absolutely stoked for the shadow wall - it's just a fun/silly thing to do. When we ventured upstairs we didn't realize there was a theater until a staff member asked if we were there to see the show. Since we had to get going, I asked if I could peak in real quick to check it out and he was totally fine with it. It looks so cool! We will definitely be back to catch a show in the future.
